Que Sera Sera: Episode 2
After the first episode, I felt Que Sera Sera could go either of two ways — darker and more somber, or more upbeat. I have nothing against somber, sad dramas — I’m sure there are some very good ones — but I generally won’t watch them. I find enough to cry about in the happy, comedic kdramas; I don’t need to be hit over the head with tragedy!
Anyway, for my own sake, I’m happy to see QSS’s upswing into lighter territory. It’s still got that indie feel and pacing, which I’m happy about since that’s what I responded to in the first episode. There were lots of funny moments in Episode 2, but the comedy was in keeping with QSS’s aesthetic — not slapstick, not shticky, not jokey, but more situational.
(Random) SONG OF THE DAY
Loveholic – “One Love.” This song isn’t related to the episode, aside from the fact that it’s another great, calm song by Loveholic. [ zShare download ]

sarah dear… another GREAT episode & summary.. to be honest.. i was sooo looking forward to reading your wonderful thoughts & spoilers. I found myself liking this serie.. even though I told myself not to expect alot because I tend to get bored really fast w/ the recent dramas… but so far.. so good.. I have to say.. I adore JUNG YOO MI- she’s definitely a gem.. gosh.. those big innocent eyes of hers.. how can anyone turn her away? lol..judging from the preview.. eric is warming up to her abit and things are get hot & heavy w/ the other couple too.. exciting.. haha.. hopefully this journey will be fun for us.. i’m sure i’ll enjoy it while it last.. but I hope it this excitement will last for awhile.. hehe.. in the mean time.. sarah fighting!!! – I know that you will be super busy w/ the various new dramas.. so here’s some emotional support.. hugging sarah and chanting…. que sera sera.. lol..
Javabeans you really do have a wonderful way of writing the summaries so much so that it is like i can see it played out in my head as I read it. You rock!!!
Thank you Javabeans aka Sarah!
I enjoyed reading your reading on Tae Joo’s character. I agree that he doesn’t know how to be nice to Eun Soo. I am quite surprised that the series hasn’t showcased any of Tae Joo’s family. We know that he lives alone but he has a father. Think his mother died or left them? Not sure about this.
(Eun Soo is hilarious.
I love this part especially when Tae Joo begin to ask her to get out! Absolutely 100 percent chemistry!
Eun Soo: “Is it really okay that I stay here?”
Tae Joo: “There’s no other choice. I guess I’ll just have to put up with it.”
Eun Soo: “Not you, I meant me. Will I. be okay?… since I’m a girl.”
Tae Joo: “A girl?”
Eun Soo: “So… for a girl to be in a single man’s home…”
Tae Joo: “Out. Get out!”
Thanks for the kind words!! ^^
I hope following this drama is going to be fun and thought-provoking. The previews for Ep. 3 are nice and juicy, aren’t they?
I love the Tae Joo-Eun Soo chemistry (Eun Soo is so cutely odd — she seems vaguely bird-like to me, somehow), although Eric’s rocking the sexual tension with Hye Rin… who’s also got plenty of tension going with Joon Hyuk. It seems like the love tri/rectangle will be different from the typical kdrama stuff, so I’m looking forward to seeing how things play out.
hi javabeans!! (ill call u sarah that ok?) once again, loved ur summary. i dont know what to expect of this drama after being so excited and the whole mess with the actors. but hey its a pleasant surprise and after reading ur summary it made me look forward to ep3. thanks for writing the summary! i would be so lost without it.
the way u right makes it a fun and enjoyable read, know the right scenes to play out and all those. the songs u choose are awesome too it really fits it. the character interactions are really intereseting and cute too. keep up the great job!! ^^

@babymarzy: sure, link away! i’m glad you’re enjoying this drama so far.
@ovette: i know! loveholic sets the perfect mood. i’m looking forward to seeing what other songs they use.
@bwitched: you’ll love soulmate! it’s hilarious and fun and has a fantastic soundtrack. in fact, QSS’s soundtrack so far reminds me of soulmate — not in song selection, but in quality and how well the songs fit the mood.
Well I already know how I want this to end as far as the bro-sis thing, since they made them not blood related I hope he goes back to piloting and she is sitting next to him in the cockpit. How many episodes is this show? I’m looking forward to the soundtrack, and yes the songs remind me of the wonderfulness of Soulmate, if only they made a second season of that awesome drama.
Bwitched nice to see you here, lol, you must check out Soulmate is is so funny, sweet, and filled with things we can use in our own romantic endeveours, let me know if you end up loving it!!1
Sarah, believe it or not, but I think for this drama, I can just read your summary and still be able to follow QSS with no problem hehe.. ^^ thank you so much for taking the time to do all this =)
ay_link, that’s like the best compliment ever!
merci merci
i loved ur analysis about Jung Mi Joo’s character/Eun Soo.. im actually thinking now that this drama is more realistic in the sense that you have the pretty girl vs somewhat ordinary looking one to get who will get the guy who is goodlooking.. the story also piques my interest because i think the characters are fun to watch.. eric is quite different here too.. plus ur summary also helped lots. many thanks!!! as always, i love ur summary to this one
Thank you for the drama summary. I’m not sure if I like it or not yet, but its managed to hold on to my curiosity =), and your summary makes me want to watch the next ep XD.
^Just to be a dork… I was talking about the drama when I said I didn’t know whether I liked it or not, not your summary! I’m sure I adore you summary (and previous summaries)!
Thank you for the summary. I’ll have to wait for the NonCB and subs to be out for me to watch…have to wait for awhile.
Anyway, I found the MV to the song that you are looking for. (Lee Seung Yeol’s (???) “Us” (“???”). Maybe you can rip it from the MV ?
Hi Javabeans! I do love the Tae Joo-Eun Soo “chemistry”. I like how her character’s so unconventional…and I agree how you said she was so cutely odd. I love it that the writers made her so querky and weird…just adds to her lovely personality. I totally agree with how Tae Joo doesn’t really know how to handle Eun Soo because she’s so different from all the girls he’s usually “interested” in, like the other girl. I think Tae Joo will redeem himself soon, even though he keeps hurting Eun Soo over and over again. He just needs to realize that he isn’t such the bastard that he prides himself so much to be. Eun Soo provides a different world for him–meaning that he could be so different from what he is now, and that he doesn’t have to sell himself short on anything in life. Even though his motto is to life fast and enjoy everything including riches that aren’t yours. He needs to stop drowning in life and grasp for the anchor that Eun Soo’s throwing at him. I also absolutely agree that this show is about Tae Joo and his journey to that something greater that he never thought he deserved…which is a honest and real life with Eun Soo…doncha think? haha Thanks for all your summaries…I’m bored so I’m re-reading them from the start because Episode 6 is not out with WITH SUBTITLES! *sighs* I’m waiting impatiently…and filling up my addiction with your superb summaries. Also, this is the first time I’ve seen Eric Mun act, and my my my, isn’t he delicious? The whole bad boy thing is really working for me… haha.
Hi Javabeans,
Just a random person who found your site through soompi. I must say your analysis of Jung Yoo Mi reflects exactly how I felt. At first I thought too that in the promo pics that JYM looked rather….unattractive and rather an unsuitable pairing with dashing Eric. But as I get to know her more in the show, shes actually quite beautiful, only that most of the attention is focused on her quirky hair but with that aside she has a very pure and clean look to her. I am actually really glad they replaced Yoon Eun Hye with JYM too. While YEH has a lot of cute charm…thats all I see from her. Theres not much depth to her acting. I was immediately captured by JYM on the first episode. Her eyes are so expressive and she brings such dimension to her character. She also subtly conveys cute and innocent charm that isnt blatantly in your face all the time. I am really enjoying the Tae Joo and Eun Soo dynamic and tension. Somehow I find the odd interactions between this pair so much more interesting than the overly dramatic Hye Rin and Joon Hyuk couple.
And as a side note…I also love the indie quality about this drama. The cinamatography is gorgeous and it captures everything in such a surreal lighting and style. Its really refreshing to watch this drama. I originally had low expectations since there seemed to be a lot of hype surrounding QSS but I was surprised that they were able to produce a quality drama after so many non-sense and cliched ones.
Keep up the great reviews…I throughly enjoy reading them!
Everything you wrote was how i felt you make it so clearly, it’s true of what you said about not having Yoon Eun Hye in QSS
i fully understand what you’re saying about Yoon Eun Hye’s acting..i both watched goong and the vineyard man (and yes she’s better in the vineyard man).. and i can imagine what you’re saying about her acting style.. as i said, it’s a blessing in disguise =) …Jung Yoo Mi added mystique to the already mystifyingly engaging series!!!! ..(actually, praises to the whole cast!!..well delivered..very unforgettable characters!!)
..just reading your second helping of QSS post, i feel happy vibes!!..it’s good to reminisce with your comments and summary!!!…happy happy happy!!
Thanks for your GREAT summary!
I couldn’t find ep 2 to watch without downloading and I found this site when I was searching for ATLEAST a synopsis of what goes on and WOW, you totally summarized it well… like, I could just see it happening as you told it.
But, I’d have LOVED to actually be able to see the main guy and girl’s interactions!
I missed the good parts, but thanks to you, atleast I know WHICH good parts they were.
Thanks (or “komowa”)!
Your selection is awesome javabeans.. QSS is really entertaining..
