Feelings / Neukkim / 느낌 (1994)

With the start of MBC’s new drama Air City, my somewhat dormant crush on Lee Jung Jae woke up in full force and slapped me in the face. Sure, I’d seen (and enjoyed) some of his movies, like 2001’s Il Mare (시월애 / siwole) with Jeon Ji Hyun, but I’m a drama series freak at heart, and it’s been nine whole years since his last one.

It made me nostalgic for Lee Jung Jae’s first series — one of the first kdramas I’d seen growing up and one of the first of the “trendy dramas” — KBS2’s 1994 Feelings (느낌 / Neukkim). I’ve always had fond memories of Feelings, but since it’s so old, I had a hard time locating it. But thanks to the wonderful purpletiger and the entire With S2 fansubbing crew, we were able to track down all the episodes.

Left: Feelings (1994). Right: Air City (2007).

Look at that. Thirteen years and barely any change. Now that’s good genetics.

Our lovely team has decided to take on Feelings/Neukkim as a special side project, and will be releasing subtitles so you can all enjoy old-school drama goodness! (I suspect our team’s rampant Lee Jung Jae love has a little something to do with it too. Oh, right. The story’s not so bad either.)

Flowers For My Life: Episode 5

It makes me sad that more people aren’t watching Flowers For My Life. It’s a series that shows that kdramas can be touching without being sappy, and funny without being jokey and gag-based. Funny how a series handling death can be so delightful.

Episode 5 was the first to make me cry, though not because it was sad, but because it was poignant. Mother storylines tend to do that to me.

(Thematically Relevant) SONG OF THE DAY

G.O.D. - “어머님께” (To my mother) In keeping with the theme of today’s episode, here’s G.O.D.’s somewhat autobiographical song dedicated to the rapper’s mother. I was going to use it in a different post, but it seems appropriate here.

SONG OF THE DAY

Air City OST - “Learning to Fly” The song that Ha Joon plays for Do Kyung, which is her sister’s ringtone. Not credited on the OST but apparently sung by someone (not an established singer) named Song Ji Eun. [ zShare download ]

Air City: Episode 3

A cute episode, which sounds a bit strange given that it’s as action-packed as before. But with Lee Jung Jae and Choi Ji Woo’s crackling chemistry showing through in a bit of flirty conversation, the cute factor rates just as high. The director of Air City has done a really wonderful job pacing the episodes, alternating between tense action and character moments nicely. And I’ve got to note once again how good Lee Jung Jae is. He’s really a cut above the rest — intense, strong, always just right on.

SONG OF THE DAY

Air City OST - “All In Vain” The ending credits song. I don’t really like Dong Bang Shin Ki, but their two theme songs for Air City are pretty good. [ zShare download ]

Flowers For My Life: Episode 4

Hana and Ho Sang began warming up to each other in the last episode, but now we start seeing them starting to fall for each other more. In true Hana style, she handles it hilariously. Someone told me they had a good friend just like Hana, and I can only wish I had one too. She would be so awesome to behold.

(Random) SONG OF THE DAY

Lee Seung Hwan - “비 오는 구리” (bi oneun guri / wonder why it rains). An older song, but one that seems to fit the mood of this drama. [ zShare download ]
