Coffee Prince Lyrics: “White Love Story”

coffee-prince-lyrics-white-love-story

Lordy! Judging from yesterday’s traffic boost (14,000 hits. Fourteen thousand), I’m guessing people really, really like Coffee Prince. And why wouldn’t you? Yesterday’s episode was great.

Here’s a lyrics post for the song used in the last scene of the episode (#6).

SONG (Lyrics) OF THE DAY

As One – “White Love Story” [ zShare download ]

“WHITE LOVE STORY” by As One

I didn’t know at first
why your gaze, looking at me
made me feel so flustered
I always wanted to ask
if you understood just a little of my feelings
although I never told you

Now I know, how you were as lost
and wandering as I was
How you hurt so much, it kept you from sleep
Hold my hand,
I won’t let go of you again
I love you, as long as I breathe…

Things stood still
when you, who’d always treated me coldly,
smiled at me that day

Now I know, how you were as lost
and wandering as I was
How you hurt so much, it kept you from sleep
Hold my hand,
don’t let go of me
I love you, till the day I close my eyes in rest

I won’t cry
Now that you’re by my side
Thank you…
for giving me the gift of you

  1. Thanks for this! I really liked the last scene (mostly through your summaries)
I love the way this song seems to apply to both. I wish we could see more clearly Eun Chan’s reaction to the hug, though I guess we know her thoughts from the subtitles. But Han Gyul’s expression in this scene was just so.. eloquent. And this from screencaps. I can only imagine what it must be like on video.

  2. F.o.u.r.t.e.e.n t.h.o.u.s.a.n.d hits??? O___________O wow….!!
CONGRATS, Sarah!! ^^ so awesome heheh…
Loving the song too.. and the lyrics… =D thank you~~~
As One rulezzzz! Sarahbeans rocksssss! kekeke..

  3. Hi javabeans! Lovely song ^_^. Do you know if this is a new song on the OST, or is this one of As One’s old ones?

  4. I think most of the reason Coffee Prince is so popular right now is because of the main actor and actress, haha. It’s a bonus that it’s turning out to be pretty good so far. Hopefully it’ll keep going good, and then the reason people like it will be because it’s good, and not because of who’s acting in it. :D

And is it just me, or did your website go down right when I was going to post this comment? LOL Guess your server got overloaded.

  5. Kim, I think initially that was the reason why people started watching the series but after some episodes being aired, I think that it’s also because almost all the characters in the drama are likeable and each has their different personalities which made it even more fun and exciting to watch and not to mention that the plot’s really getting better and interesting and people are anticipating how the story unfolds and how the characters will try to deal with the situations in each episode :)

  6. oh what a fitting song…..thank you for the lyrics!

  7. shenny, crazy isn’t it? it must explain the constant server errors. -_- sorry everyone! i’m trying to figure it out with my host.

si, it’s on the Coffee Prince OST.

I agree with Jet. The leads (particularly YEH) drew notice at the start, but CP’s increasing ratings are due to its story much more than it is the popularity of the actors. There are shows that get lots of buzz, and premiere with decent numbers (a first episode premiering with 15% or more ratings is pretty good for a first ep) — but they nosedive soon thereafter if the story is unable to stay up to par. (For instance, Goong S started with a robust 15% viewership rating and a super-star lead in Seven, then crashed and burned with a dismal under-5% rating due to its general plot wishy-washiness. People weren’t going to watch a hot young actor — no matter how popular — if the quality of the drama doesn’t measure up.)

  8. Hi Sarah/Javabeans, thank you so much for this song, I love it. And I LOVE YOU for all the hard work you’re doing for all us, totally indebted to you. Kamsahmnida =)

  9. the song is just perfect for the hugging scene.. i think this is the turning point whre HK and EC’s feelings becomes evident for each other.. now EC also feels the same shivers HK feels when he is near her.. and that EC is enjoying every situation where she’s brought close to HK. now she somehow understands why HK is giving her the looks but the confession I think will take longer bcoz of the gender issue.. its like the song was made for them, and that it is made for that particular situation. much love javabeans for sharing the lyrics!

  10. Korean songs are so beautiful, even more so when I can understand the words. Thanks for sharing!!

  11. Wow. Not much else to say.

  12. Hi Javabeans, thanks for sharing this beautiful piece of music.. and yes definitely this drama has got many many of us addicted and really engaged the viewers. the episodes have been developing well and hope that it does not disappoint us with the rest ^^

  13. Even thouh I know that this week summaries already over, I still keep visiting you blog, and found this song! Thanks.

  14. ahhh, i like “as one” very much! thank you for the lyrics (korean and english translations); you are so incredibly wonderful. yay.

  15. Sarahbeans, do you think your loving WITH S2 family contributed at least 4,000 of the 14,000 hits?^^ We’re your biggest fans, you know. *wink*

  16. thanks javabeans!!! The song is so apt for the scene now that I can understand the lyrics. I cannot get over this episode. I re-watched thrice already!!! Han Gyu’s reactions seemed so genuine when he made fun of Eun Chan. I really hope this drama will keep getting better and better. Kdramas plot seemed to start going predictable and repetitive after epi 10.

  17. thank u! i love love this song a whole lot more now. hehehe :D

  18. this song is perfect… not just background music but helps to enhance the ambience, acting, and storyline. it’s exactly what music is supposed to do
    in a movie/show.

14k hits…i bet it’s wayyyy higher now, javabeans. give yourself some credits, i think it’s partially due to the quality writing of this blog too! the TV ratings are also incredible, i heard.

  19. Thanks for the lyrics, really looking for a copy of it after seeing Episode 6 this morning. Loving all your summary. Keep it up!!!

  20. Thanks for translating the song lyrics! It really enhances the emotions and heart of the show. I love your “song of the day” and was wondering where I could download them.

  21. hmmmm totally in love with this series. and this song… thanks as always! :)

  22. thundie, only 4,000? lol

maryuan, all my songs are direct links to the files. depending on your OS, you can either click the link to download, or right-click and save-as.

  23. Thanks! Awesome!

  24. thank you so much for the song… i was looking everywhere for this song after i watched episode 6 last night!!!~ the song is perfect for that last scene, thanks again for sharing~

  25. Thank you for the post!

I think ratings are doing well because of the casts, the nature of the drama (happy mood and bright atmosphere) and sorta weak competitors on other channels. KBS’s drama is an 8 episode series set in the ancient times with no known cast but beautiful sceneries. SBS’s comedy is getting some good reviews but it is offending some Koreans due to its controversial stereotypes of people in Gangnam area. I see people being offended and thus switching channels especially in Seoul. (If I was to guess, CP’s Seoul ratings should be substantially higher…) So I think CP is very lucky to be in this time slot versus its original Saturday Sunday time slot. If it was in that time slot going against Bad Couple or Go Karl and Dae Jo Yong, I wonder if its fate will be the same. After all, Sat/Sun timeslots are harder to gain ratings when you are competing with people’s weekend plans as well.

I think SBS and KBS also initially thought they were going to compete against Bae Yong Joon’s drama “Taewangsaeshingki” (spelt something like that LOL) and it was supposed to be a huge drama like Jumong hence the programming was aimed to tackle that group of viewers perhaps. But when TWSSG’s schedule went haywire (Was supposed to be Mon/Tues), they had to postpone it to air later this year or maybe next year. Hence, CP was re-scheduled to move forward and change time slots. Good for CP but bad news for TWSSG.

Frankly, I am still not completely blown away by Coffee Prince’s plot and how things are set up. Episode 6 was the best episode thus far (actually tempted me to watch only that episode LOL) but I didn’t really like episodes 1-5. The show overall right now is fun but really..is it that great?!?! Oh well…just something I feel about the show which does not jive with many people. Just like Bad Couple…I find the series I am watching now are so-so…not a disapointment to watch but definitely nothing that leaves me in awe.

  26. ginnie, it must really be a matter of taste, because to answer your question (”is it that great?!?!”), I have to say, for me it really is. I’m thoroughly enjoying Coffee Prince, more than I expected (as you described, I was expecting it to be decent and watchable, but it’s been a lot more fun than that). I know it’s not necessarily high art but I find myself disappointed when each episode ends. I like the setup they’ve got going, and the fact that there’s entertainment without huge drama. (Yet.) To be sure, it doesn’t have stiff competition but I don’t think that’s the main reason for the high ratings. High ratings can suggest a few things (lack of competition, popular cast, etc), but consistently climbing ratings is suggestive of more — that there’s genuine interest in the story and development that’s engaging viewers.

This may all change, because I’ve found it’s not unusual for the first two or three weeks to be stronger than the rest of the series. But I totally agree with your assessment of Bad Couple — for me it was really fun and fresh for the first six weeks, and then it hit a plateau (or maybe more like a gentle peak). It’s still interesting, but it’s been down-graded from “gotta see” to “a pretty fun watch.”

  27. That’s true Javabeans. It must be a matter of taste. Wish I could also be as excited for a drama these days. I really want to feel high on a drama again! It is exciting to be part of an online watching experience for 2-3 months. We’ll go through the ups and downs together and mock/praise the dramas together. I think watching “almost” live with so many people in cyberworld is something I really enjoy especially when there are lots of interesting discussions going on.

Bad Couple let me down somewhat. Like you said, it’s interesting still because I want to know what happens in the end and curious to know what the writer is thinking when she started this story. Has it lost its way? I somewhat think it has lost some focus.

  28. Just as the popularity of Coffee Prince is now due more to its story than is star-studded cast.. Sarah, your site is viewed not only for the summaries but for your comments and insights, which we are very grateful that you share with us!
    Thanks for everything! ^^

  29. thank you…i was looking for the lyrics!! I love this song… it’s so (*sigh*) moving…

  30. I’ve been following this drama closely too. I am so curious how things progress with the two of them and how much longer will she keep her real identity a secret. I wonder if the other cousin will also fall in love with her.

    Thanks a lot!

  31. Where do you get these cool screen shots? They look so good! :)

  32. With Han Gyuls expression in this final scene — my guess of what’s going on through his mind — ” OH MY GOD I’M GAY!” LOL HA HA HA… but really they’re such a cute couple — of course I still like Eun Hye and Joo Ji Hoon and besides he’s different from Gong Yoo — Ji Hoon is the serious type of guy whose trying to be funny while Gong Yoo is the guy next door who’s already funny looking and totally HOT but…. GAY – HA HA HA HA — I love this Drama!

  33. oh yeah thanks for the lyrics — PERFECT FOR THAT SCENE! was the song composed for that particular scene? sure like it was… i love that song. thanks again!

  34. Eun Chan will kiss Han Kyul in the next episode! :)

  35. Lmao i think i’m an overly emotional person, I cried during that scene T_T
Thanx soo much for doing episode summeries without them i would hate myself for not being able to understand korean T_T Though i still do, but only a little.

javabeans BRAVO i couldn’t agree with you more. Espescially about the ratings comment.
The casts are doing a great job in portraying their role and this is clearly a great series which is why the ratings are high…not due to lack of competition, I dont know but some people may be blind, if they think that, because if they go to forums and blogs, Coffee Prince is almost everyones topic these days. Just look at the Coffee Prince page in soompi compared to any other drama threads, and also the hits that Coffee Prince related sites are getting…those are enough proof that this series deserves the high rating *rollseyes*

  37. When I saw the last part, my heart went ? (Jjing). It was really touching (?) haha ”
    Thanks for the song :]

  38. i saw episodes 5 and 6 without subs! ^_^ naturally, i just guessed, judging by how their expressions change and which setting they were in. very tiring, but nonetheless enjoyable. i believe that love and comedy are the world’s languages. you don’t necessarily have to understand what’s touching and what’s funny. you just know them. i can’t speak nor understand korean language (except for some very few words like wang ja and ssagaji…hehe). same goes with korean songs. i don’t understand a word, but to hell with understanding! i feel nice every time i’d hear a melodramatic korean song. mood setters! ^_^ and like you, i also feel upset every time an episode would end. it’s like “i want more!”.

funny thing is when han kyul hugged eun chan in episode 6, i can’t help but feel “gay”-ish. haha! i really got the whole “eun chan oppa” going on inside my head, and having her boss do something like that was like…O_O, then i’d remember eun chan is a girl, so it’s okay. ^_^ best episode.

haven’t heard of gong yoo until this series, and so far, i’m liking/loving him. eun hye’s a natural! she looks great even with the boyish look (ooops…am i going lesbo? hehe).

thanks for the lyrics, javabeans. i’d never look at coffee the same way. ^_^

  39. hi ,im luvin ur blogsite just wondering if u have the romanization version of this song??? im planning to sing it & post in my site im so inluv with this songs thank u so much

  40. I REALLY LOVE THIS SONG! The melody and lyrics…. perfect! I can’t speak korean… i don’t understand korean… and i’ve been listening to this song over and over and over again and … now, i’m singing along with it… thanks again javabeans!

  42. I agree with Jet and Javabeans, the show’s two leads made the show more noticed, but the great plot and interesting characters made this shows even more successful. Afterall, I’ve seen many shows with very popular casts, but with very disappointing plots and boring characters which made the ratings significantly low than expected.

  43. Thanks for uploading the full lyrics. Knowing the lyrics bring more meaning to the song. Never fail to bring tears to my eyes each time i listen to it. Really do appreciate all the hard work that has been put in. Will continue to support dramabeans all the way!
I’m proud to be a dramabeanie! hehe.. :)

  44. i LOVE this song ^^ does anyone know where i can download it?!?!?

  45. nvm i found it :]

  46. I Love this song … n ur translation. Well … i love everything about the show :) Was wondering if anyone had the lyrics for the song Good Bye. I tried to figure out the lyrics but I just couldn’t get everything. Someone please help ~~~!!!

  47. can you tell me where I might find other romanizations like this one (White) of other CP OST songs:
    Ocean Travel
    Lalala It’s Love
    For A WHile

I’ve been searching the web, but I guess I don’t know how to do it well enough for results.
If you could steer me in the right direction, I’d really appreciate it

  48. Where can I get the romanized lyrics for May by Belle Epoque? Thanks

  49. Hi…thank you very much for sharing. I’ve been looking for the lyrics of this drama sound track….

  50. Hello javabeans. I’m still struggling with CP like you. I’m just wondering where you from? Are you a native korean speaker? cuz I found one confusing translation in the lyric. Apologize my bad English. I’ve lived Korea since i was born so i’m not good at English. Anyways, what i was going to tell you was about this line “나를 보는 그대의 그눈빛이 왜 그렇게 안타까웠는지”. It was translated to “why your gaze, looking at me made me feel so flustered”. I can’t really tell who the subject is. At first I thougth “HE” looking at me with flustered look on his face. and the next second I thought maybe “I” am the one who flustered. However I bet “He” is the one who flustered in the lyric in korean. Oh~ and I personally love “Go Go Chan” too. Dont’ you like it javabeans?

  51. #50 hmLee
If I may put a word in here… People who want to know more about javabeans (while respecting the important fact that she has every right to a life of her own outside what she chooses to share in this blog) will find that she has already told us quite a lot over the past months about her linguistic and cultural background in her main posts on various matters, all of which are well worth reading (and not just for such autobiographical glimpses). For example, to answer your questions here about her Korean language, try http://www.dramabeans.com/2007/03/anything-to-avoid-real-work/ And without for one moment wanting to encourage anything remotely approaching cyber-stalking, there are other things of this kind in other postings, but I’ll leave those who want to find them the fun of looking…

  52. Sorry, folks, me – rudely – again. My excuse being this time that I’ve been turning over the linguistic point, and I think this is something where we beginners in Korean may well learn something useful, so I’d like to say something which might also help those who know no Korean at all to see what the issue is about.
Here is my attempt at a crude hyper-literal translation of the opening lines, which attempts to show to English speakers what the sentence components are (and, more importantly, which components essential to a European mind aren’t explicitly present in Korean).
    처음엔 알지 못했어
    Initially did not know
    나를 보는 그대의 그눈빛이
    At me looking your gaze
    왜 그렇게 안타까웠는지
    why in such way peturbed

This is a construction that causes a lot of comprehension trouble for learners like me (and apparently for people who are way past the early learning stage too)
    Its pattern is:
verb of cognition (here the negated past tense of 알다, to know, in the first line)
plus interrogative particle (왜, why in line 3)
plus modifer ending on verb or adjective (안타까웠는)
plus indirect question marker 지 (which tells us the modified verb or adjective links in with the interrogative word to form the equivalent of a “why do/did -is/was …” indirect question in English.) [For Tagalog speakers: the final 지 plays the role of the particle kung in a construction like "'Di ko malaman kung bakit ... "]
The logic is plain enough, but the difficulty from the European perspective is supplying the subect(s) and/or objects which, as the literal translation above indicates, are missing (’me’ is indeed marked as the object of “look’. but that doesn’t help with anything else much).

Now the distinctive Korean relationship of pyschology to grammar (which means that some verb and adjective forms can only be first person/subjectively felt-known, while other things can only be third person/objectively observed/inferred) indicates that the pronoun we need to supply for “know” here is “I”. But the comment raises the question as to which of the two people involved (”you” or “I/me”) is the subject/experiencer of the “flustered state” and which of them is its cause. Javabeans in her translation goes for “me”, the recipient of the gaze, being the flustered party as a result of being looked at. The comment however, wondering whether it isn’t in fact “You” (referred to as the “he”) i.e. the gazer, who is “flustered” as a result of doing the looking.

Now my inclination is to follow javabeans’ intepretation. But then (a) I am a blundering novice in Korean and (b) I worship every byte javabeans sends into the ether: so my opinion is pretty worthless anway. But I’ll be interested to hear what she says when she gets a chance; and whatever it is, it will take me and those like me a tiny steplet further towards the day when we can actually understand this stuff for ourselves…

  53. Hello Gramps. Thanks to you, now I know a bit of javabeans. About the lyric, If i quote only this sentence 나를 보는 그대의 그눈빛이 왜 그렇게 안타까웠는지(why your gaze, looking at me made me feel so flustered) and survey who the subject is, I guess the result would be 50:50. However throught out the whole lyric, the story goes like this. At first “I” didn’t know why “YOU” were flustered, but now “I” know “YOU” were as lost
and wandering as “I” was, and so on. I mean, I can’t tell who is the one flustered gramatically, but from the atmosphere I can tell “YOU” are the one. But you guys, Gramps and javabeans, are so good at Korean. I really like to be fluent in English, but I can hear only 50% of talking. However you guys can talk about this stuff
    “Its pattern is:
verb of cognition (here the negated past tense of 알다, to know, in the first line)
plus interrogative particle (왜, why in line 3)
plus modifer ending on verb or adjective (안타까웠는)…”

    amazing!!

  54. glad i found ur blog!! i really love coffee prince..and this song brings tears to my eyes..a heartwarming song..just keep it up! you are making many people happy and inlove..thanks!

  55. Hi javabean, do you have a a romanized versin of “White Love Story”? Thanks!! Mwahh!!

  56. #55 AHEM! See #41 above.
[Incidentally, this type of "romanization" as used by English speaking KPop fans is strictly for sing-along purposes (and why not?). But in places, stuff like this reads like gibberish to anyone who understands Korean, because it doesn't accurately reflect the original groupings of sounds (or indeed often those sounds themselves), either as they are spoken or as they are written according to current norms. Proper romanization (of which there are three and a half main varieties) attempts to re-write Hangul in a way that preserves the original sense, though the result may not be so "singable". But it can't be done mechanically by substituting fixed Latin alphabet letter sequences for each Hangul character, which is how KPop-style romanization is generally done.]

  57. i really love this song! its my lullaby whenever i sleep.. i love coffee prince!

  58. Jaysus, now that I know the lurics of this song, it’s bringing tears to my eyes. What a beautiful song! I love it … and will try to do it justice. Ta again.

  59. Just read Gramps’ “crude hyper-literal translation” and I think it is relevant only to me. LOL. Since I am going to try to interpret each phrase as according to the musical phrase (if that makes sense to you), I need to know the literal, literal translation so I can convey the exact movements to each phrase.

While knowing the clean-uped, grammatically correct and elegant phrasing of the translation, for dance purposes, it is always better to get the literal meanings. Gramps, although it was just the 1st 3 lines, it was very useful so ta. Sarah, still a brilliant job and I just wish I understood the rudiments of Korean so I can do a better job interpreting it into movements. Great site!

  60. thanks so much for sharing this song…. hehe
goooooooo coffee prince… totally agree with the comments about the song suiting the scene… the feeling and everything! but yeah.. gong yoo’s expressions…

  79. i just want to comment on the lyrics of white love story, the finale part i think one line is missing, i’ve watched the video with the english translation and it says there…
last 2 lines…”thank you, FOR SUCH A WORTHLESS ME
for giving me the gift of you…”
i just want to know which is right, cuz lyrics is quite important, right!

  80. you have made the best TV show “Coffee Prince” which i began watching at night in the prime time.
i have been following every episode of that show and it’s number one here in the Philippines. it’s really great to know how the story ends so i will not be missing the scenes until the end. i am planning to write a blog for that show to inspire others watch it…….

  85. I have just recently watched Coffee Prince and I was definitely stricken to the bones! Its very nice and worth remembering. I wonder how did the Director come up with this very fantastic story. The scences or the scenarios have its own unique expression of human experiences, thereby making it outstanding and profoundly tremendous.
I am anticipating that Eun Chan’s will soon revel her identity. THAT SHE IS A LADY!

  86. javabeans, you are a gift to all the thousands of people who rely on your translation to be able to fully grasp CP!! Thanks!!!!

  100. i am addicted to asian dramas… seriously!!! i’m asian but somehow dramas from home are a bit too predictable and almost too familiar already… and i don’t mind the dubbed ones i watch on network tv at home but when they’re dubbed some parts are missed… parts in a conversation like how they call each other… oppa, unni, ahjussi, ajumma… noonim and noona- i’m still not sure if it’s a respectful way to call an unni.
when i watch these dramas i also learn some words…
and also bits of their traditions and way of life…
