OMG! LIFE - "well-written, well-acted and well-shot, it’s so funny and yet intensely emotional." I totally agree! Damian Lewis is such a great actor (as anyone who's seen Band of Brothers or The Forsythe Saga should know). No one can hold a candle to the Brits when it comes to acting. It's too bad that they're just starting to be a little less under-appreciated in Hollywood.

i find this series really interesting. though i wish i understood more of it though.. so i hope ud find interest in the rest of the eps. but i find it having the similar thomas crowne affair-ish qualities. though a bit more emotions, and character driven plots would be nice. like vengeful workers, love line here and there or something that says sizzle more than the action. hehehe it would be nice. mbc intl was like reairing air city now. and ugh. why. i found it even duller this time around. lee jung jae, is still awesome and lee jin wook is love though! ahhaha

I love Pushing Daisies. I love how it's set in some weird fictional alternate universe that seems both modern and old-fashioned at the same time. It's whimsy with a heart -- the two leads absolutely sell the longing and attraction, although I think more credit has to go to Lee Pace (the piemaker -- LOVE HIM). And it has perhaps THE best reason for keeping the romantic leads apart that I've seen so far. (Unfortunately, I don't have a whole lot of hope that it'll survive, though I hope it does.)

But the new show that really surprised me was LIFE -- I was expecting to dislike the show or at least find it wearisome and boring. I had no doubt it was well written, but cop shows don't engage me. But the show blew me away. It's amazing. On top of being well-written, well-acted and well-shot, it's so funny and yet intensely emotional. That guy playing Det. Crewes is gonna be the next Hugh Laurie, just wait.

Ha, totally went off-topic there. Maybe I'll have to create a new post or page for US shows so we can chat there. (What I really need, lol, is a forum. Ha.)

i totally agree with you on the emotionless aspect of the drama. i thought of it as a lack of true passion/knowledge for the high end world of art retail/collection: curators, consultants, historians, wealthy patrons, european prejudices (it's really hard for Asians to be successful and recognized on a par with their European/Jewish colleagues despite the growing number entering the field).
if only they would layer the drama withmore feeling, along with interesting anecdotal (but concise) info on the rich history and strenuous protocol of the field (i mean, art history is an interesting topic--or would it be too discovery/history channel-esque?).
Plus, why and how did the art bug inspire each person (including supporting characters) to enter this elusive realm (whether it was because of love for the art or the prestige). these background stories could serve to infuse this nicely packaged serial with some life. i think they could have done more with the rich asian princess arc (i'm pretty apathetic to the current actress playing the rich girl) since they are the stereotypical habitues of the art world: having to deal with questions of true competence/belonging in this judgemental world because you are or aren't an aristo nymph.

on a side note, i loved loved loved thomas crown affair, though the focus was not so much on the art (hence no major historical/pseudo-historical delving a la Da Vinci Code) as on the lives of two extremely intelligent, sophisticated people who enjoy the challenges, thrills, and "art" of the perfect heist--the characters were caricatures with texture and depth.
