News bites: May 11, 2008
May 11th, 2008 // by javabeans

- Jang Dong Gun recently revealed in an entertainment program segment that he’d taken a minimum fee for acting in art-house director Kim Ki-duk’s The Coast Guard in 2002. At the time (and now too) Jang commanded top dollar — several million dollars per film — but gave it up because he felt it was part of an actor’s job to appear in such films (as in, lower-budget, artistic focus). And it sure paid off.
- Kim Rae Won is scheduled to appear in upcoming drama Gourmet, but is cramming in a ton of CF jobs first: aside from advertising for Chung Jung Won (food), Hang Ten (clothing) and Rinnai (appliances), he’s also in talks for apartments and telecom contracts. Capitalizing on Gourmet’s buzz, I see. The series premieres June 16.
- With Lee Seung Gi cast in MBC’s Iljimae (not to be confused with Lee Junki’s drama on SBS), rumors are swirling that he’ll quit his current role on KBS’s variety show 1 Night 2 Days. Producers are saying talk of his departure is premature; facts are as yet unknown with Iljimae’s production schedule still unreleased.
- Clazziquai’s Alex is taking on a radio DJ spot for MBC FM4U program Blue Night, hosted for the past two and a half years by singer Sung Shi Kyung. Alex has been busy working on his solo album, and takes over the show at the end of the month. Sung Shi Kyung leaves his spot on the show to begin activities for his upcoming sixth album, to go on sale late May or June.
- Looks like The Sweet Life (La Dolce Vita) starring Lee Dong Wook and Oh Yeon Soo is headed into mania drama territory. The new drama dropped significantly from its predecessor Last Scandal of My Life’s healthy ratings and is fighting to stay afloat despite its promoted “racy” bed scene between the two leads (episode 3 posted 6.9% ratings against First Wives’ Club’s hefty 27.8%). With the drama’s dark tone, that doesn’t surprise me.
- Apparently recording while rapping causes extraneous rustling noises, leading Tablo to develop a habit of recording “almost totally unclothed.” I’ll let you think about that some more on your own.

Contrary to popular belief, I think I know why Tablo raps “without” clothes. If you observe him carefully in the recording studio, he moves around A LOT. Along with your cliche hand movements and swaying of the body, which causes clothes rustling and things of that nature.
Meh. I watch him too much.

alyson, exactly. o.o
Hmm but I remember in one of the Pieces Part One D7 to D1 promo clips, there’s a part where Mithra was recording and his clothes were on. He moves a lot too, perhaps not as much as Tablo but still!
But GAH, sweaty, bad boy Tablo rapping away with minimum clothes covering is just…. -hides in shame-.

fizzlex3mh…a mania drama means a drama that gets low ratings but it is being talked about or being raved about by Korean Netizens on Message Boards….I watch La Dolce Vita and I agree that the story is really dark and though the performances of the actors so far are good, I don’t think Korean audiences are ready for a drama that is very dark and thus itis airing on weekends, considered to dominated by family dramas…since this drama is competing with First Wives Club that is a family drama, so I think it was really expected with a drama that mysterious would get that rating…too bad it was from the PD of Time of Dog and Wolf but I’m still watching it for the story alone but I think it would rate better if MBC decided to show it as a season drama like Auction House or in a weekday timeslot

“Almost totally unclothed” is extremely vague and leaves much to the imagination O.o I find it rather amusing (:

Soooo..He sings naked? O_o

I think Tablo does that to keep it hood.
Though I imagine that first meeting with Younha in the studio was a bit chilly . . .
Younha: Hello Mr. Tablo Sir? Why are you only wearing trunks and thick rimmed glasses ?
Tablo: This is how we do it when we spit it. Pac, Nas, Mos Def, that dude from Les Favy Sav. Hip hop is not dead! Come respect me or come and get me! Holla back!!!
Epik High: Feelin you Tablo!
Tablo: Word.
Younha: Okay but I’m not feeling your morning salute
Tablo: Oh. Sorry.
Younha: Mithra, is he always like this?
Mithra/Tukutz/BOA/Drunken Tiger/Ji-Sun/Nell: YES!!!
Mithra: He just broke up with his girlfriend. Again.
Younha: Gotcha.

OMG at the Tablo thing. It makes almost TOO much sense… but wow.
May 12th, 2008 at 12:06 pm
I wonder if Tablo wears boxers or tighty-whities. My bet is on the latter!
May 12th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
Probably should ask Mithra, Tablo’s Coffee Prince:
“Tablo also added that when he feels lonely, he sleeps in Mithra Jin’s room and hugs Mithra tight because he likes that he is chubby.”

Ohayo!
Arigato to javabeans for that bit piece of news abt. LA DOLCE VITA…..I was reading an earlier write-up interviewing Lee Dong Wook abt. his role in here. A dash of hints here and there but not truely revealing everything abt. the dark role he is in. But as his great fan, I stick through thick and thin with his role in La Dolce Vita. He just wants to be innovative; not too bad for someone who needs to depart from that gentlemanly Seol Gong Chan in My Girl & trying something ‘foreign’. Omedeteo. Congratulations!
Korean audience may not really ascends to its dark twists and turns in La dolce Vita but I bet there are many out there who may give a it a good second chance despite the ratings suggest otherwise. Japanese audience sees things different. So hopefully it will survive well outside Korea!
Bye! Thanks for that connotations abt. what a ‘mania drama’ is al abt. Is La Dolce Vita realy a much hyped abt. drama? I am still wondering?
