East of Eden completes its love geometry
MBC’s upcoming East of Eden looks to become the next big-budget, high-profile drama of the year, with recent cast additions of two lovely ladies to act as romantic interests for lead heartthrob Song Seung Heon: first, crying queen Lee Da Hae, and now Lee Yeon Hee.
The story concerns the stories of two boys born into the same hospital at the same time (the other being played by Yeon Jung Hoon) and their intertwining fates (shades of Autumn in My Heart? Just don’t tell me he’s got a long-lost sister he falls in love with too). Lee Yeon Hee plays the daughter of the casino head with whom Song Seung Heon falls in love; this is their second time acting together after the “2008 Love Song” music video.
Lee Da Hae rounds out the love square; although it’s not explicitly stated, I’m speculating purely based on current career trajectories that Lee Da Hae plays the main love interest and Lee Yeon Hee the tragic second fiddle. (Because stories like this — switched at birth! revenge! heartbreak! — scream tragic melodrama. All fifty-some episodes of it.)
East of Eden premieres on MBC in August. Will this highly anticipated project live up to the hype, or fizzle like so many supposed surefire blockbuster hits before it?

I’m totally rooting for this drama: it stares two of my favourite actresses, even though I’m slightly sad to know that maybe, Lee Yeon Hee will be the sort of ‘third wheel’ like she was in A Fine Day =T Anyways, I’m happy to see Dae Hee once again; Hello Miss! was a bit disappointing and so was Robbers (because of the storyline, not the actress, lol) !
I hope LDH is the female lead and not the other one. If LDH plays second fiddle then I probably won’t watch the series. She did a good job in Robbers but the storyline sucked and I really want her to redeem herself after Hello! Miss and Robbers.
Usually I am a fan of melodramas but lately they’ve been pretty bad (Bad Love, Robbers…etc.) I hope this drama will do better.

Ooh, I love Lee Yeon Hee. Not so keen on Lee Da Hae (she was good in My Girl, but…). I hope this turns out to be interesting.
Yikes, fifty something episodes… The only thing that’s attractive about this drama is that LDH’s in it but other than that… I don’t know.. for some reason those high profile, big budget dramas (that are usually too long) don’t interest me at all. SSH being in this drama is a hugh turn off as well.
watching it for Lee Da Hae but 50 episodes is a TASK. haha.
It may be the translation, but I’m not sure why K-dramas end up named after classics. All about Eve. Le Dolce Vita. Have mercy, there weren’t even twin babies in Full House!!
Anyway, some people are talking about the story being a fusion of Autumn Tale and Resurrection. Uhhh . . .
The undercard may end up overshadowing the leads here. Lee Yeon Hee, the Choi Ji Woo of the short film/music video, has a luminous screen presence that acting technique cannot teach. But I think the person-to-watch will be Park Hae Jin (Fabulous Chili Sisters, By Land and Sky), whom I think could be the next Binnie. Emo/emo-pretty doesn’t begin to describe him.
I’m also looking forward to seeing Choi Jung Won (Chili Sisters again, All In.)

Yay! I never saw this coming… Lee da Hae has been quite off the radar these past few weeks… Even at soompi Da Hae news has been in a drought for quite some time now… I’m so glad to have read about this…
I’m really not in to the plot of this drama but hearing that Da hae’s in it totally changes everything for me… I’m totally gonna keep an eye on this one from now on…

what a cast! i’m excited to see this even though the story line sounds like your run of the mill kdrama. i don’t know who to root for though cuz i like both actresses! i think lee yeon hee is the better actress but i’m use to seeing lee da hae in a leading role. BUT i really want to see lee yeon hee get the guy too!

Hope LDH can make a comeback after after appearing in the disappointing drama “Robbers”! Ooooh, LYH is going to be going to in this drama?! I’m definitely going to check it out! Hope LYH ends up with someone at the end unlike “One Fine Day”!
