Shin Dong Wook tracks down your ex-boyfriend
Have you missed Shin Dong Wook (Soulmate, War of Money)?
He recently shot these promo pictures on a Seoul rooftop for his upcoming job as the new MC of cable reality show [Chasing Your] X-Boyfriend (on Mnet). He’ll be the third host following fellow actors Jae Hee and Jang Geun Seok for the show that tries to reunite men and women with their exes.
I’ve seen a few episodes of the show (it airs, subtitled, on the cable channel Imaginasian) and find it both oddly compelling and vaguely creepy — often the production team employs methods that might be considered illegal here in their attempts to track down the ex based on whatever information the seeker provides. Usually they’ll hide out in their production vehicle, stakeout-style, and film the target as “surveillance” for a bit before then trying to ambush the target for an introduction, and sometimes confrontation. Many times the ex doesn’t want to be on television or reunite with their seeker, which makes for awkwardness (but good TV?), although I suppose it also lends it an air of realism that’s missing in a lot of American “reality” shows. Something that painfully awkward — humiliating onscreen rejection! airing of embarrassing relationship dirt! — has got to be real, right?
In any case, I’d rather see Shin Dong Wook acting again, even if I haven’t liked some of his roles recently. But hopefully the host gig works well for him.

i hope they do some sort of background check on the men/women who seek to reunite with their ex-es. what if the man/woman was abusive or posed physical harm to the ex and the ex wanted to stay hidden?
I’d rather see his cute face in a new drama. He’s so underrated.

Actually, there is a show in the states that is almost identical to this. I don’t know if it still airs (I think it got cancelled awhile ago), but it’s called “Cheaters”. It’s pretty much identical to this show, except instead of chasing after ex-boyfriends, they chased after spouses that were cheating, and then confronted them, ambush-style.
The last picture is very disturbing…

We have same reality show airs here in Indonesia, but they aren’t only chasing on exes, they’re also chasing on “suspected cheating boyfriend”. That’s such an embarrassing ‘reality’ show…and I hate watching it.
I like Shin Dong Wook, especially in Soulmate, and a bit in Cloud Stairway..but yes, he should pick better role, soon!

Ah, he’s so good. I loved Soulmate and I watched some of Cloud Stairs, but the version I have has intolerable subtitles.
I really want to see him acting again. He’s very good looking, and since he’s Kim Kibum’s cousin from Super Junior (?), I swear they seem to have the exact same voice. It’s crazy.
Nonetheless, thank you. And I hope he gets into a new movie or drama soon!

Omigosh!… this is so timely, I mean your article about SDW. I just watched soulmate and as you wrote it. I enjoyed the guffaw and the bitter sweet scenes. I fell for SDW in an instant. I like the part where he was on the verge of crying reading on the thoughts of the ex girlfriend in distress (not yujin)… anyway. I was so loving it in fact am trying to check war of money because of this.
About this new role his taking, coincidentally, I watched yesterday’s airing of the TYRA Banks’ show here in Manila… am not too sure if its up to date though. The show presented several couples who broke up and got reunited on air. Well it was to present all these women who either got dumped, or divorced for the wrong reason which they caused themselves.
Anyway, I’ll be waiting for more drama or movie roles for SDW. Jia You!

i love shin dong wook’s movies he should have won an award for cloud stairs. it is one of my favorite movies i hope to watch more of his stuff.fortunately i can watch them on mysoju and crunchyroll.’ because here in the states we don’t have any good movies even on tv.i now only watch two american shows,supernatural and the food network. the rest are here on the internet because they don’t show many asian movies here in the states,just the raunchy reality tv shows yuk! and yes i like super junior too and yes kim kibum is my favorite. thats how i started to watch shin’s movies i didn’t know he had a cousin that was an actor. they are both great at acting
i can’t wait for their next movies.

i for one hope to see shin dong ssi in another good drama like cloud stairs — it’s one of my favorite Kdramas & his acting & role in this drama were both fantastic! he should really be going back to acting although i realize he just finished his drama in Japan but what about another one in Korea shin dong ssi? i keep my fingers crossed cause you’re one of my favorite K actors!
