Have to say KRW in the bracelet giving scene was amazing.

I guess a lot of the credit goes to the director and editor because they only show us want they want us to see.

He gives so little away when talking to JS normally. Then we see his little glances to see how she reacts to his handmade and last minute birthday gift - made me catch my breath at his vulnerability.

In one of the episodes, he says something like "it's really hard for me to express myself in words," but by golly, there is so much more to him that what he says.

I keep looking for technique, or self awareness, but I can't spot it. Either KRW plays KRW in all his movies, or he is just really good!

Wished the subbing would move faster...it's now at Ep. 5 from the sources I know..I know it's loads of work and I do so appreciate...well wishing is free...whereas people's time and energy is priceless.... kenchana E, AJA subbing team!

I even watched without subs :) wherever I could,

quote "The reason Episodes 15 and 16 really appealed to my love of romance isn’t just because we got to see more of it (although that’s always nice) but because the balance finally tilted. That’s probably my favorite part in the development of a kdrama romance, and for 15 episodes, we’ve seen the balance always tilting on the side of Jin-soo liking Sung-chan more (and Sung-chan being friendly but at arm’s length). But here, we finally see Sung-chan initiating interaction and taking steps forward, and it’s SO CUTE."

I was clapping and saying "ME TOO!" "ME TOO" DATOOO !!!!

Thanks Javabeans

love the interactions between sung chan and jin soo as well. i absolutely adore that fact that they're total friends who can converse about anything (well, food related of course). anyhow, i don't think the whole cook w/ food columnist w/ tasteless mom scenario is that much of a coincidence. in fact, it's almost totally plausible. i mean, Jinsoo's mom lost her sense of taste due to her tongue surgery. because of her inability to taste, she used food columns to cook, pushing Jinsoo to become a food columnist. then Jinsoo only met Sung Chan, the cook, because she was researching for her assignment. i might be stretching it a little bit, but this scenario was unavoidable. i mean, Jinsoo's job requires that she interacts with chefs, so it was inevitable before she would meet a handsome, kindhearted, talented cook like Sung Chan. don't you think so?
that's what i love about the romance of Gourmet. it's sooo natural and believable. i mean, at least they didn't meet because he needed her to be his pretend-cousin (i love My Girl by the way) or they had a marriage contract. haha. just a thought. if i could rate the coincidence meter in the Sung Chan - Jinsoo - Tasteless mom relationship, I'd give it a 6 at the most.

"but he doesn’t listen to her, which isn’t helped by the fact that she doesn’t talk to him."

If couples figured this one thing out they would be so much better. Communication is two-fold you actively listen and you talk when needed.

We unfortunately don't live in a world of mind readers!

You've said everything really well - and I'd just like to add that I think a bigger problem with Bong Joo and Joo Hee is that he's solving problems using material goods and not really looking further.

When she mentions that she's had problems with her appetite, it's like, hey presto, have a six-course meal! But he doesn't even ask or consider asking what is making her lose her appetite (maybe I'm over-reaching, but a big healthy girl like Joo Hee doesn't just suddenly decide to not eat). He's not going after the psychological stuff enough with her. Of course, she doesn't really talk or emote at all, so it's not all his fault.

Jin Soo and Sung Chan are just love. :D

Thanks so much for your summary and commentary! I love to read what you have to say about each episode and about how cooking and food is more than what we think it is.

I loved the Sung Chan and Jin Soo interactions, too. I was wondering when the drama was going to up the romance factor, but it seems to me that just as they're starting to get much closer, their relationship is going to become rocky, thanks to that article, dang it. I wonder how it'll all resolve.

Again, thanks for the recap!
