More stars pay their respects to deceased colleague

Okay, I think I’m done posting pics of stars visiting Lee Eon’s funeral room. If more information comes to light, I’m on it, but until then we’re just going to be getting photos of grieving folks, which is probably gratuitous.

I know it sounds hypocritical for me to dislike the photos and then post them. However, I do think it’s a matter of interest — just up to a point. When it starts feeling gratuitous, I step back.

Below are Strongest Chil Woo co-stars Eric, Gu Hye-sun, and Kim Byul. More pics beyond the jump.

Co-star Eric:

This is part of why I decided I’d stop posting photos of the funeral, because Eric seems so harassed. I think it’s fair to assume people are interested in seeing famous actors and celebrities showing up to pay their respects to a friend, but when I was looking through pics to post up, these made me uncomfortable.

Here he’s making his second visit to the hospital (the first was made in the dead of night, right after he heard about the accident), and obviously the guy’s feeling crappy, but there the photogs are, about two inches from his face. The photos of other stars may also be somewhat intrusive (some less than others), but we don’t usually see photos including the paps, so we don’t get the full sense of the chaos.

Coffee Prince director Lee Yoon-jung and co-star Chae Jung-ahn; Chil Woo co-star Kim Byul:

Who Are You? co-stars Ahn Sun-young (the secretary) and his onscreen love interest Lee Min-jung:

Supermodel Song Kyung-ah with fellow model Jang Yoon-joo. In the previous post, Park Dool-seon was pictured; together, these three were the original models of cable reality show I Am a Model. I’m not sure if this was openly acknowledged, but Lee Eon had supposedly been dating Jang Yoon-joo (not sure of their status at the time of his passing).

Joo Ji-hoon and Lee Min-ki:

Lee Chun-hee and Oh Ji-ho:

Members of Girls Generation (SoShi):

Yoon Ji-min and Jo Yeon-woo:

Kim Sung-soo, Ryu Deok-hwan, and Cha Seung-won:

  1. as a non-korean and a fan of lee eon (and that’s thanks to your efforts in blogging about the k-dramas he has been on), i very much appreciate your posting the pics, even if it doesn’t always sit well with you. it shows the great loss of such a young talent and the support of people in the industry he seemed to have served well albeit in too short a peroid of time.
i hope you do not tire of doing this for us. thanks again javabeans.

  2. Dramabeans, thanks for posting more pictures.

I know you hate them solely because of the paparazzi’s intrusiveness at this private time of griefs for most of the stars who came to pay respect to Lee Eon. However I do hope you’ll post new photos and more news when they come to light. I’m still in awe and try to grasp anything to come to term with this sudden & tragic loss.

  3. Thanks for the update and pictures included. It just still feels bad how this come too short for Lee Eon =( May he find happiness and peace with our Creator !

  4. Lee Eon looks so sweet in that picture. I wish all his friends and family luck. I hope they’re able to go through this hard time. I didn’t realize Lee Eon knew so many celebrities.

  5. Dramabeans,

Sorry to hear that this made you uncomfortable as we can see that all these media is intruding a private yet public event. But as a non korean fan, you are helping us break through this barrier as we are worry and want to know the updates of Lee Eun too. I really appreciate you translating and covering this sad event. Lee Eun’s loved and admired by a great cirlce of friends as well as international fans too as many are coming to pay their respect too. I also hope that his family will find peace and comfort afterwards. Best wishes to Lee Eun’s family.

    xoxo.

  6. wtf is up with the left of center photo?
did he turn into a US dollar bill?
    wtf

  7. ‘Strongest Chilwoo’ will always be associated with Lee Eon’s death. The casts of SCW looked completely shocked at the death considering they were with him at the wrap-up party a few hours ago and now they are at his funeral (how fleeting life can be!!) Poor Kim Byul looked completely devastated and Hye Sun just looked so pale from the utter disbelief (she was at the hospital earlier too and she must be feeling numbed!!). KBS world will be showing Ep.11 in my part of the world next week and I will be watching it as always but with a tinged of sadness everytime JaJa comes on screen.

  8. Such an unbelievable tragedy after a happy time in this young man’s life. (I’m glad he got a chance to make us all smile for a while.) It must be completely devastating to those who knew and loved him. Goo Hye Sun looks like all of the blood has been drawn from her face. It’s just so sad…

  9. Ah this is really sad, I’ve read a bunch of posts about it and I still can’t believe that he’s already gone. Lee Eon looks so happy in that picture :) That aside, some of the boys look really tanned, long time no see JJH.

  10. i really got upset
    God bless Him
    So upset for his mum………

  11. Oh dear Javabeans, no, no, no…. I read this very very sad news just now, this is unbelievable news, what a sad news…
I can’t type words ,how sad and painful.
You know I’m irannian, but since coffee prince time, I love his brilliant acting.
Really sad, I’m very sorry for his family and his friends.
    SLEEP IN PEACE LEE EON.
dear Min-Yup of Coffee Prince you are still alive in our minds and hearts.

  12. Dear Min-Yup of Coffee Prince you are still alive in our minds and hearts.

  13. RIP Lee Eon. He’s so new and young and full of live that I’d never have expected that him to die so soon. Maybe it’s because i’ve been paying more attention to korean celeb news this past year but it feels that too many celebs have died prematurely. And it’s amazing how the korean photographers won’t take pictures of celebs walking in their scrubs or going grocery shopping -like in the US and often shown in magazines- but will take pictures of them mourning at a funeral. For celebrities who work with so many people and have such huge networks of acquaintances- they probably go to twice as many funerals as the average person and then to be poked about with camera flashes every time they attend one..

  14. The photo they used in his funeral.. it’s a good photo. I always remember him like that. All smiles and good nature. Rest in peace!

  15. The pictures make me a little uncomfortable too. Especially that whole slew of Eric I saw on another site (who is reportedly such a shy person), looking like such an exhausted wreck with so many press in his face.

Lee Eon looks like an angel in that picture from his funeral…

  16. oh god…..it is so sad to hear the news. read it last night and i keep checking this again and again to make sure this is not some bad dream. And i dont know if it is going to make some people mad……this is so much similar to passing away of Heath ledger…right. Both of them were young and just coming up on their popularity and getting some good roles…..then the sudden death. it feels so unfair in taking the lives of good upcoming actors.

  17. i’m still sad about Lee Eun…
but is nice to see his friends paying respect to him.

  18. omigod….i …i dont even know kno how to react
this to me the most unexpected death ever ….i mean…wat??

    omigod…

    May he rest in peace

by da way how does he know GG ??

  19. Thanks.

  20. thanks for informing us of his death. i appreciate your sensitivity in your manner of “reporting” his death and wake. i really feel deeply sad by his sudden and untimely death. he will be sorely missed.

  21. I still can’t get used to it either Dramabeans…

    =_= This is…just too sad.

    May he rest in peace,

  22. Thanks for posting and the added pics. Sad and sorry that such a fine young man left usso suddenly. May God bless his soul.
From now on when my significant half ride a motorbike, it will brings memory of Lee Eon and I’m scare and worried :(

  23. nothing can reverse your violent passing, lee eon…with all the regret, pain and love in our hearts around the world, i hope you can rest a little better in peace.

  24. totally respect your decision to stop posting pics and all - it’s a funeral for Christ’s sake, i hope the photogs will just give his family and friends time and space to mourn.

and you’re absolutely right. poor eric looks harrassed. and devastated.

R.I.P Lee Eon. You will be missed.

  25. Thanks to you Sarah Javabeans for posting this article, i’m deeply saddened with this tragedy.May he rest in peace

  26. Girls Generation look gorgeous. They have nice set of matching top and bottoms.

  27. His life was so short but full of kindness and beauty. I love him and I will surely miss him.

  28. still can not believe this,
plz just tell me this another drama/movie he’s filming…

  29. I feel like crying already… I’ve been away for four days and when I come back, I find out that Lee Eon has passed away… Rest in peace Lee Eon… He was such a lovable character in Coffee Prince and it would have been great to see his future projects… The world is so unfair. Condolences to the deceased’s family. He will be sorely missed.

PS: Somehow those SNSD pics bother me.

  30. @Passions: you’re just as appropriate as those reporters who shove their cameras into Eric’s face.
it’s quite odd for Soshi to be there. I didn’t know they knew Eon. Well, if they didn’t, it was nice of them to pay respect.

It’s so disturbing. Can’t the family request privacy/no reporter for the funeral? I had a feel Kim Jae Wook was on the verge of smashing the cameras flashing at him. I know I would.

  31. I get a feeling that Kim Byul was fond of Lee Eon.

-sigh- Life is so fragile. Just a few days ago he was in the finale of Strongest Chil Woo and now he’s gone… It just shocked me so much. He seemed like a good-natured person and was a good actor. It’s too bad his career got cut short like this.

  32. kim byul looks so devastated!! :[ they all look so sad.
thank you for posting this up. it just makes me tear to see all of them who really loved eon. i really enjoyed watching him on screen. i couldn’t believe he past when i found out yesterday. it was really unexpected. i was in disbelief. all i thought was, it can’t be, he’s so young. rest in peace eon.

@RIP lee eon: um, soshi was there because they knew each other from working on a radio together. there’s pictures of them together too. i think they’re a little more than acquaintances.

  33. Uh what’s wrong with SNSD being there? Lee Eon used to be a radio DJ on Shimshimtapa with Kim Shinyoung and the girls were frequent guests on his show. They’re a little more than acquaintances.

RIP Lee Eon. I absolutely adore the black and white picture of him.

  34. I am still in shock of this tragedy.. he just started doing drama’s and I enjoyed his acting …and his looks always givew me smile…I will always remember him in my heart of a fine gentleman on TV
thank you for positng this up… I enjoyed this site…
    RIP Lee Eon

  35. Javabeans, I understand where you are coming from ——— about intrusion of privacy ——– and I agree to a point, especially when the media shoves cameras in the faces of celebrities, but the business is such. Seeing celebrity friends show up at funerals make me appreciate the tight-knitted Korean entertainment industry. For a moment, we remember that they are any normal human being other than their star status. Despite Lee Eon not being an A-lister, seeing A-lister celebrities at his wake, tells us the kind of man he is, and I think that is the kind of honor that should be attributed to him. Thanks for the updates and pics (even though it made you uncomfortable), Lee Eon’s passing is a loss to the industry.
    R.I.P. Lee Eon

PS. I don’t think we should question the presence of any celebrities at the wake, co-stars or not, close friends or not, (it is not our place to judge), it is simply a respect to a former colleague.

  36. totally agree with you Jac - point well said. thanks

  37. javabeans,i appreciate your courage to share the pics, it’s consoling to know he is well loved by people around him.

he’s youthfulness and bright aura will always be remembered.
    may he rest in peace.

  38. Thank you Javabeans for your coverage of his funeral. Really appreciate the updates and pics…

I’m still in shock over his death…

That picture of him is really nice. We’ll all remember him this way…

  39. I found myself tearing up reading your blog entry and some of the comments. I have not even seen any of his dramas and by the time I do he’d be long gone from this world. He is obviously well loved by his friends and colleagues. “Gentle giant” was one description that struck me.
    Rest in peace, Lee Eon.

  40. dear javabeans,

i am very thankful to you to post updates about Lee Uhn’s incident. as one of the people appreciate Lee Uhn’s act in coffee prince i find him a great lost to everyone who loves him and care so much for him. as i first read the news last august 21, i was really shock and did not believe on it. but as i read through everyday, i then told my self that it is real. life is too short anyway. but Lee Uhn’s sudden death made us sad.
hope you will continue to post every details on what’s the latest update about his funeral until we pass through the bereavement of his sudden death…

    very thankful,
    favs

  41. I’m sorry but I just gotta ask this, is Go Hye Sun really that PALE ???? she’s like super white !

What surprises me is, how high Korean stars have in tolerating with the Photoghs

they all look calm and really make them look like they don;t exist

  42. im still in denial…total disbelief…

  43. [...] Dramabeans has the full story here, here and here. [...]

  44. I’ve been away for almost a month and came back to see this. I remember thinking he was quite adorable in Coffee Prince and glad when his career continued with Strongest Chil Woo. This is very sad news indeed. The poor boy … RIP.
