I had a much better week than last...took about 3 weeks just to get into the pace of things at school.
It's going to be an even better weekend. Just saw the 2min trailer for the film scripted by Kim C, titled "Oishi Man" that will be premiering at PIFF, and I am SO EXCITED! Lee Min Ki's singing and guitar lessons are paying off.
Now, isn't that a good omen?

Going to the grocery store to stock up on cooking ingredients, and then hunkering down in the house and watching the tropical storm go by. I've never experienced one, being so far inland, so it should be interesting.

I'm hitting the books this weekend. And next weekend. Actually, all weekends in the foreseeable future will involve textbooks of some kind.
Ain't life grand?

well, the mayor and the county judge say, "hunker down" so I'm doing just that. At this point I'm half amused and half scared $hitless...pardon my french. This is my second hurricane and the first major one so I'm hoping nothing crazy like looting happens after.

Oh me too, sucktastic week. I'm planning on vegging out, actually. Watch movies or dramas (maybe a marathon?), listen to music, read a book, whatever... as long as my brain isn't engaged in complex activities. =)
Also. Sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!
Your plans? Have you decided how you're going to have fun?

i know this is a little late seeing as the cooking thread was last week but.... APPARENTLY, if your soup is too salty - chuck a potato in it (med-sized & hopefully CLEAN).
It's an old wive's tale - the potato sucks up the salty-ness. From recollection, i believe you leave it in there until it goes a little soft and your soup starts tasting a bit better (DUH).
i still haven't figured out how i will ever cook like mum - i guess that asian gene just didn't get passed down to me...

I went to the Orchestra for school this week and it was major cool. There was a woman from China, Wu Man, she plays the pipa, and she performed harmonious with the orchestra. I thought it was not going to be that great, but it actually was. I had a smile on my face the entire time. It was beautiful. And there was Gypsy music, and music from Transylvania, now today called Romania, by Romashka. That was a great performance too. Weekend? Maybe hit the movies and then do tons of homework that I have for college. Maybe I should start that now....

I'm in Dallas, so the vibe up here is more of excitement than emergency. We're supposed to get tropical storm force winds, flash floods etc, possible tornadoes, but nothing too bad. Good luck to you both this weekend. :)

I'm going to have drinks and see The Women tonight with a bunch of girlfriends. I don't really know what it's about (except uh women?) but it will be the first thing I watch without subtitles since The Dark Knight. I really need to get out more.
I hunkered down for the hurricane last weekend but we just got a little wind and rain here. I hope it's not too bad for you guys. Take care!

I just finished the first week of university for the year. Needless to say, I'm missing summer vacation already!! Already spent $600 on books, and I got almost every single one used. I even resorted to photocopying several monsters, each about 300 pages, just so that I can save some more bucks. Tuition and rez costs are high enough as it is.
Anybody else in the same boat? Just dreading having to get back into "studying mode"...
@ Tricia, that sounds awesome! I wish I could see a performance like that. Music is my life. I devote all my free time to playing music. The rest of my time is spent listening to music while procrastinating! =P I'm really hoping BV will showcase some good pieces.

This is kind of random, but with all the these new shows premiering lately, I wanted to put in a good word for Privileged. I had no intention to watch it, but I kind of threw it along with my weekly torrent download of Project Runway, and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. No, it's not genius level good or anywhere near it, but among all the over hyped and heavily promoted shows like Fringe and 90210 (ugh!), Privileged is like a small, tasty treat.
Anyone got any other recommendations?

I really liked Priviliged too. I wasn't expecting to. I just watched it for free on Yahoo! last week because I was bored.
P.S. Any Heroes' fans who understand Korean? 'Cause I'd really like to know what's being said here.

@Miki/DramaBeans,
Now that Aigoo's down, is it possible that the WithS2 can make the 1.5G versions of shows available in their clubbox?

RIP to David Foster Wallace, one of the true essayists and post-modern literary giants of our time. Not many people know this, but he was a terrific tennis player in high school. No infinite jest.
This is the piece DFW wrote on The Mighty Fed

I was SHOCKED to hear the DFW news. An absolute literary genius, gone. Speaking of the NY Times, La Kakutani had a lovely eulogy for him:

DFW approached fiction and exposition as a performance art. But just as a stylist, his descriptive passages really, really made me jealous. His description were a milk chocolate of fluid sense and earthy "fork in road" dilemmas. Sometimes it's too rich, sometimes it could be more biting, but his stuff was best read for savor first, lingering on the multisense, multitext palette. Then, later, you'd swallow all the nutritious "okay okay I feel asleep while reading Foucault, gimme another latte!!" content. And most of his essays weren't like that anyway. He was exuberant without making himself the subject, and I can't believe he didn't want to go on.
You couldn't tell this index of knowledge was from New York, and that's the greatest compliment of all. :D

Yes, I am in that same boat, spent $500 on books, but then I am only taking four classes, but one of them is five credits, since its honors and lab too, but it is hard as heck! Speaking of which, I should start doing that homework now....
