Pink cinema is just for the ladies

Tomorrow, November 1, the Pink Film Festival kicks off, and it is a bit unusual in that it’s targeted exclusively to women audiences. It’s also on the long side for a film festival, going all month until the final curtain falls on November 28.

The term “pink film” refers to sex-themed films and can be traced back to the 1960s, when the erotic cinema genre sprung up as mostly small-scale indie productions in Japan. With the rise of adult videos in the 1980s, the pink film genre experienced a decline, although it continues today. Although pink film (also called “eroduction,” as in erotic productions) can be described as softcore porn, it isn’t exactly equivalent with Western pornography.

The festival takes place in Seoul, but will go on a screening tour of other cities, including Busan, Daejon, and Paju.

Park Jin-hee tells sweet lies

What a bad Photoshop job, isn’t it? Well, not so much bad as it is lazy, but lazy Photoshopping still qualifies it as bad.

Anyway. Park Jin-hee (War of Money) is coming out with a new movie, the romantic comedy Sweet Lies. Considering that the story involves her character faking amnesia in pursuit of romance (hence the poster’s Pinocchio nose), this title is a big improvement over the first one, Time of Memory and Loss [기억, 상실의 시대], which makes it sound like some kind of serious melodrama.

The movie co-stars Lee Ki-woo (Rude Women) as Park’s first love, whom she runs into after ten years. In an attempt to win him over again, she puts on an “outrageous performance” faking memory loss, while Jo Han-seon (April Kiss, My New Partner) plays her childhood friend, who no doubt spends a lot of time looking askance at her theatrics.

Sweet Lies is scheduled for a December 18 release.

Open Thread #54

First, and most importantly…

Courtesy of Yes We Can (Hold Babies)

Voting is (finally) upon us! I cannot wait for Tuesday. I predict I will be hungover Wednesday. (I just hope it’s the happy kind, not the wailing and gnashing of teeth kind.)

Second, speaking of self-damage inflicted upon teeth: Happy Halloween!

Third: Anyone doing NaNoWriMo (aka National Novel Writing Month) this year? Sevenses and I are both planning on giving it a shot, and it should be an interesting experience. Writing starts tomorrow!

I think I’ll be keeping my progress off this site, but I’ve revived the old wordpress one (that’s javabeans.wordpress.com for those who may not have been around when this site kicked off) to be my NaNo companion (like I need more procrastinatory enablers). For those who’ve done NaNoWriMo in the past, how has it been for you? Does it help having people spurring you onward? Are you doing it this year?

A note about downloadables (yum!)

a-note-about-downloadables-yum

Allllllrighty.

I’ve received some emails and concerns about zShare basically turning into a big ol’ bitch and not letting anyone download. What a punk. It makes me glad I decided to switch to mediafire not long ago.

However, since a whole mess of stuff I’ve uploaded is hosted by zShare, this leaves a lot of my old links pointing nowhere. (Or, to be more accurate, back at itself. Which, let’s face it, is pointless and a little bit narcissistic.)

What I’ve done is reuploaded all the kdrama scripts to mediafire links, and added a few new scripts in the mix. Also reupped is the humongo motherlode of Coffee Prince stuff, since it seems to be a popular destination.

HOWEVER, as you may imagine, uploading craploads of media is time-consuming and tedious, especially when you’ve done it once before. Boo. As much as I would like to go back and reupload everything on this site, that idea does not sound like a fun way to spend hours and hours. So what I’d like to do is open this up to REQUESTS. (I can’t pcomise I’ll get everything, but I’ll try.)

Drop a comment, or email me at info [at] dramabeans [dot] com, if there’s a particular song with a dead link you’re just dying to get. If you’ve emailed me already, I swear I’ll get to it. And please don’t request every song I’ve got ’cause that doesn’t help me prioritize where to start. Thanks!

Rapper “G” returns

Not too long ago, actor So Ji-sub was featured in the music video of a new rapper called “G” — after which it was then revealed that G was actually So himself.

Now the actor is planning to release four songs that he’d recorded as part of the “G Project” album, to go on sale on his own birthday, November 4, as a sort of “gift to himself” and “the best present to his fans.” (How generous!) These additional songs had been recorded at the time he’d recorded the debut track, “Isolated Life,” and are also written and produced by songwriter J@TRAX.

Following his most recent film, A Movie Is A Movie (or Rough Cut), So Ji-sub will be soon busy working on the SBS drama series Cain & Abel, which is scheduled to air early next year.
