As announced, two actors joined the ranks of their enlisted entertainment brethren in fulfilling their mandatory military obligation on October 27.
Voluntary air force enlister, the 25-year-old Ohn Joo-wan (My Mighty Princess, The Peter Pan Formula), and 29-year-old gentle-faced actor Ryu Soo-young (Bad Couple, Seoul 1945) both said their goodbyes on Monday afternoon before heading off to the training center in Nonsan, North Chungcheong province.
Y’know, looking through the photos of all these guys heading off to enlist, I’ve noticed with how they’re always so self-conscious and embarrassed about their newly cropped hair. You’d think by now that they’d have gotten used to showing all sides of their appearance in their acting projects, but that doesn’t stop them from responding to the loss of their usually fashionably styled locks as though they’ve lost their security blankets.
For instance, here are various celebs saying their goodbyes before heading off to serve. All look uncomfortable and are either touching their heads self-consciously or covering it up with hats (or doing both, a la Go Soo).
Top row: Gong Yoo (Coffee Prince), Jo Hyun-jae (Three Dads, One Mom), Jae Hee (Delightful Girl Chun-hang), singer Lee Ki-chan, singer Sung Shi-kyung, ex-HOT singer Kang Ta
Bottom: NRG member Noh Yoo-min, Seo Ji-seok (Pure 19), Song Seung-heon (East of Eden), Han Jae-seok (Lobbyist), Go Soo (Green Rose)
(I wonder if that’s why Eric looked so confident when he headed off for training, since the shorn look was not new to him. All smiles, he struck me as seeming much happier — or, at least, much less awkward and uncertain — than celebs usually seem on enlistment day. In any case, it’s an example of confidence coming through in attitude, not looks, yeah?)
