Chae Shi-ra becomes Empress Cheon-chu

I mentioned in the previous post about Go Hyun-jung’s new sageuk that the upcoming year would showcase three prominent sageuk dramas starring three famous actresses, and the first of those has just revealed its posters. (The other two dramas are Go’s Queen Seon-deok for MBC and Jung Ryeo-won’s SBS series Princess Ja-myung. I’m going to put my bets on Cheon-chu being the big winner, although Seon-deok has some experienced names behind the cameras.)

Here’s our first glimpse at the official posters for KBS’s Empress Cheon-chu, starring the awesome veteran actress Chae Shi-ra (Emperor of the Sea, Invisible Man Choi Jang-soo), looking ready to kick some historical ass. (Looks a lot like Song Il-kook’s Jumong poster, doesn’t it?)

The drama will take over the weekend slot from recently ended Great King Sejong; it’ll premiere on January 3.

  1. thanks for the report ^^
It does look like Jumong’s poster hehehe
to me, I’m really anticipating Princess Ja-myung and I think it will be very interesting to watch.

  2. “(Looks a lot like Song Il-kook’s Jumong poster, doesn’t it?)”

Speaking of Jumong, totally expecting the Queen Seon-deok series to become the female Jumong / Korean Queen Elizabeth. The highlight 2009 drama so far.

KBS’s weekend sageuks haven’t been great the past few years. Hopefully Empress Cheon-chu will be a pickup.

  3. The poster is simply fantastic.
    Empress Cheon-chu.
    Her gaze.
Her eyes are so determined and proud…
I do not know Chae Shi-ra, but certainly I wait anxiously this new sageuk, because I love history and I find, intellectually, adaptations historians very challenging.

  4. Chae Si Ra is a genuine icon (and rather proudly famous for not looking her age.) In the 90s, Choi Jin Shil was Meg Ryan to Chae Si Ra’s Meryl Streep. In fact, I kinda wished she would be doing Queen Seon-deok instead, just from the international promotion that will come with it.

Empress Cheon-chu casts Si Ra opposite her Eyes of Dawn male lead, Choi Jae Sung (also Lee Jung Ki’s gangster boss in Time of Dog and Wolf.) And of course Seon-deok’s Ko Hyun Jung is best known for Sandglass. Hmm, wouldn’t it be just dandy if MBC called up Lee Jung Jae . . .

Thanks so much for the information, belleza.
If Chae Si Ra was compared to Meryl Streep, then she is really good actress.
I have greatly appreciated Choi Jae Sung in “Time Of Dog And Wolf” and now, I am even more happy to review his action in this new sageuk.

  6. i admire chae sira not only cause she is a great actress.. but of course because of her personality and being a good role model. this looks excting the poster does even with jumong similarity. this is impressive to look at and yes that intense gaze as well. nice job. i hope this will do good.

and yeah wont it be just dandy if mbc picks LJJ.

  7. You know the promo shots from all of these historical dramas are beginning to look alike

  8. Looking forward to seeing this one. Chae Si-Ra is a very talented actress.

Not that it matters much, but I heard that it was shot at the same location as “King and the Clown”?

  9. i’m not into epic dramas but wld like to see this only because of my Tomato guy Kim Seok Hyun! He’s a darling! love him in Tomato drama series with Kim Hee Sun! I hope he & Kim makes a sequel to Tomato!
