Lee Yo-won in Vietnam

Like several actors before her (Bae Doona in Nepal, Shin Hyun-joon in Malaysia), Lee Yo-won (Bad Love, Surgeon Bong Dal-hee) is participating in tvN’s “LOVE” charity program, wherein celebrities travel abroad to help the less fortunate.

To that end, Lee recently spent six days in the Ha Long Bay region in northern Vietnam with international relief organization Good Neighbors. A photographer traveled with her on the trip (which was made from November 2 through 7) while she helped the family of a 10-year-old boy, who struggle to make ends meet.

Her segment airs on cable channel tvN on November 29.

Lee Yo-won was paired with a 10-year-old boy, Thuan, to help him and his family as the boy made his livelihood gathering shellfish. Thuan’s mother is bedridden with illness, and his older sister sells fruit to tourists on the boats that travel the bay. His father passed away a few years ago. Working all day, he and his sister make about 200,000 won a month, which is about $150.

Lee also gave him a safer boat to use while out collecting shellfish instead of the styrofoam board he’s been using, as well as a swimming suit and other materials, and promised to keep in contact and continue her support.

She’s also looking great, not as anorexic as in the past.
