Pulled two super-late-nighters in a row and aged body cannot handle it. So… tired. Wish I could crawl back into bed, but no, must muddle through the day.
Talk amongst yourselves…

Must go to bed...must go to bed NOW! Got another Saturday work day coming up and I don't wanna go! (Imagine very whiney voice!) Regardless you'd think at this age that I would have already figured out that staying up late doesn't stop tomorrow morning from coming! Duh! You can bet there's going to be a whole lotta muddling going on tomorrow!

The year end is around the corner.
Are you gearing up for Javabean's annual dramas round off?
Just wondering what is your top 10 all-time favorite K-dramas (may be a top 10 for movie too?).
I'm curious to see what I've been "missing out"!

Javabeans, could you post up again Loveholic's song 다시피운꽃? The zshare thingy isn't working.
@phiphi, "Like a Virgin" is a good Korean movie. I watched it kinda recently and i really liked it! It's about this teenage boy who wants to get a sex change operation. If you've seen Billy Eliot, Like a Virgin is similar to that movie.

When I was in graduate school, I spent from 3-8 in the morning once writing and re-writing the same paragraph. I should have gotten up or gone to bed but I had obviously lost my mind.
I'm glad it's Friday and I also dreamt I was in Korea last night which was enjoyable.

Hi Javabeans,
Wow, I wonder how you handle your "real" life and still have time to fansub and maintain this wonderful (and I bet time-consuming) blog.
I had a few minutes on my hands and out of curiosity, I googled "dramabeans.com"
Do you know someone has put a price on your website? They estimated its worth at around $120 000. (I think it was in USD) But, like the MasterCard commercials, your site is "priceless" to all your fans.
I was reading some old comments and I didn't realize there was a way to send some moolah your way to help offset some of the expenses you have to maintain this site. But I don't see the link. How do I go about doing this?

@ KTX, thanks for 'Like A Virgin". Haven't seen that one yet.
The all boy cast wasn't draw me at first glance but the reviews seem good.
May be this comedy will add some laughter during the long Chirstmas/New Year break! Thanks again.

I am floating around on a sleep-deprived high after the killer molecular bio final, and I have a week until the next final, so I'm getting some zzzs in right now.
(Sleep deprivation may be due to the phenomenon wherein I tell my brain to study and it goes, 'DRAMAS!' )

I understand COMPLETELY. Had to finish 2 papers (late) this week, then had a super hard exam today. And will have one tomorrow morning as well. This week totally raped the heck out of me.

Ah, student life is tough but sure the hard work pays off, fighting! Been staying up late almost every night, not doing homework but catching up with the best 2007 dramas recommeded by javabeans, thunderbolts & Dahee! No regret so far. Time is precious so can only afford to watch the best dramas. Yes, like phihi, I look forward to yours and others recommendation for the best dramas for 2008 since this year is almost coming to an end.
Have a restful weekend!

Yeah...I love the year-end drama re-caps...=D It is unfortunate though that I don't have a drama this year that got me especially excited or passionate about. Mediocre interest for dramas in 2008 actually. Oh well...a better 2009 I hope!
The holiday music is killing me. I've been listening to Christmas music at work all day long since December started and it does not make me feel festive AT ALL This is probably going to go on for another few weeks. I wanted to get out of the building when "The Twelve Days Of Christmas" gets played for the tenth time in five days.

Speaking about Christmas, try listening to the newly released "White Chirstmas" ballad of KAT-TUN. It's so soothing you'll fall asleep happy.
Hi everyone!

@shp,
Thanks so much for your offer! Back in the day (like a year ago, lol) I had a paypal "donate" link up to help me run this site. (I did get a number of contributions, so thank you to everyone who donated!!) Although my operating costs have gone up, I now make enough from my ads (right sidebar) to support the hosting fees, so I took down the link. I really appreciate the sentiment, though!

Rewatching Be Strong Geum Soon on MBC America right now. Love, love the chemistry between Kang Ji Hwan and Han Hye Jin.
Impressions on Rough Cut . . .
I think the story would have been stronger had it pruned Gang-pae's (So JI Sup) story a bit, and focused on Su-ta's (Kang Ji Hwan) development. Gang-pae's storyline is fine, but I felt like the story was straining to give equal treatment between the two characters, without helping the story's flow or themes. It also weakened the impact of Gang-pae somewhat; imagine watching The Dark Knight where you actually got to know the Joker.
There's a lot of violence, but it's often used to define the biases between humiliation and validation, often associated with "male bonding." This is where I thought Rough Cut was just great. It seems to take typical "art vs. reality" tropes within film-about-film narratives and blend it with good ol' Fight Club "search for authentic masculinity" themes. BUT, that's only true from Su-ta's point of view. Rough Cut also mocks this perspective, especially during the ending.
If you like it when Kang Ji Hwan does his "hothead" acting style, you'll love him here. His character is arrogant and maybe a little delusional, but in a way that makes you scared for him.
For me, So Ji Sub's performance was both the most interesting and difficult to connect with. He's played gangsters many times, and of course it seems every Korean actor ends up playing "tough guy" to earning their Actor degree. But this performance is strangely distant, and the bravado is almost feline. Watch how stands against the rails at the top of the building, or how his long fingers stroke the cigs, or how he becomes a blank page during both horrible violence and potential emotional connection. Half of the time, So Ji Sub is almost playing Gang-pae as a femme fatale who seduces through his fists and obtuse admonitions. It's that performance which gives Rough Cut its ironic tone. Whenever I started following the violence, So Ji Sub's Gang-pae would lead me to a detour, another gotcha. Any context or meaning of violence that we the viewer or the character Su-ta come to believe through the story is ultimately rejected by Gang-pae. What is the point of violence? Why is Gang-pae, Gang-pae? What has Su-ta learned from Gang-pae?
