From the set of Insadong Scandal

I can’t say I’m exactly excited about the new art-themed movie Insadong Scandal, but I do really like Kim Rae-won (Gourmet), who acts with an effortless charm. (On the other hand, “Korea’s Madonna” Uhm Jung-hwa (Seducing Mr. Perfect) is a little hit or miss for me… and I’m sorry to be shallow, but her face is starting to scare me.)

Reporters were invited to the set location for a press conference on the 6th at the Buan Cine Theme Park in North Jeolla province.

(Doesn’t the venue seem like a lovely change from the usual conference hall settings? It sure seemed cold — everyone’s bundled up in heavy winterwear — but oh so pretty.)

In the film, Kim plays a highly gifted art restorer/reproducer, while Uhm takes on a villainess character. Kim sheds his normally easy-going image for a more refined character, which he says he felt some pressure undertaking: “We’re more than halfway through filming so I feel now that I made the right choice. It’ll show a different side to me than I’ve shown before, and I wanted to take on the challenge. My mother works at an art school, so I’ve had an interest in art from an early age.”

Regarding the role, Kim explained, “I played simple characters in Sunflower and Gourmet,” and elicited unexpected laughs by adding jokingly, “but in contrast, since this sexy and sophisticated role is like my real self I didn’t feel burdened.”

A premiere date has still not been set, but the film aims to release within the first half of the year.

And because it cannot be said too much, Kim Rae-won is one good-lookin’ man:

Unfortunately, like I said, Uhm Jung-hwa is (in recent years) one scary-lookin’ woman. The heavy makeup against the white face and the lurid red dress don’t really help, either. I think super structured looks like this are really harsh, and make her look unnatural. I’d like to see her looking simple and normal one of these days — although for a pop diva, I suppose this IS simple and normal. You know, since she’s actually wearing clothing instead of passing off underwear as sexy costuming.

Agreed with the Cruella De Vil..

and Kim Rae Won is a fine man.. and I don't know why but I kind of think that the first picture make him look like the older version of Goo Jun Pyo. ^_^

On a second thought, everything is like Goo Jun Pyo, I'm in love with that curly dude!! I can't believe that I typed it here.. yeah Viva Curly Man!

He is the best! Not only handsome but very very likable. Something about LMH reminds me of him.
The lady is scary....what happened to her hair?

I do not know any of them and this is the first time I've seen them. So I cannot compare at all. However, I must say that if the lady, uh, (name?), uh, Uhm Jung-Hwa is very scary looking. If she replaces that smile with the death stare worthy of Jun Pyo's mom in BBF, she will really look like Cruella De Vil (Which translated conincidentally means 'Cruella the Villian', is it? I'm not french, I don't know.) especially with the 'fur' coat. It gives off the I-killed-dozens-of-puppies-to-make-this-fur-coat evil person kind of look. Anybody agrees?

@Annie - When I watched the first episode of Boys Over Flowers, images of Kim Rae Won kept appearing in my head whenever Jun Pyo appeared on screen. I don't see it with the recent episodes though so I don't know what it was. It wasn't a bad thing though. Who wouldn't want images of that man in their head?

What a contrast between Rae Won and his boyish good looks and Jung Hwa and her over the hill dance hall look......

Haven't really read much about the drama, but if those two are linked romantically, won't work for me. Can't see the chemistry working.

Kim Rae Won is indeed talented. I've enjoyed the characters he portrays in dramas. Wonder if he'll try the role of a villain... I think he'll still shine! As for Uhm Jung Hwa, to be fair to her, I pretty much enjoyed watching her in Seducing Mr Perfect. :)

say what you want about her unnatural face, Uhm Jung-Hwa is a natural born actor... I have never seen a movie where Jung-Hwa was not THE most entertaining character...
her seductiveness is playful and not overbearingly erotic, her dialogue is loose and never forced, and her swagger rubs off on her co-stars.

and agreed, Kim Rae-Won is easily one of the best actors in Korea... and I think this may be his first role where he plays a laid back character... he always seems to be in roles where he yells alot. "Love Story in Harvard", "What Star are your from", "Mr. Socrates", "Gourmet" etc.. except Sunflower where he didnt talk at all...

I actually cant wait for this... =)

I don't blame you, UJH is beautiful but sometimes her face scares me too. Nothing wrong with fixing your face, but if it starts to show, then something is wrong....But you gotta admit for her age, the way she looks, dresses, dances, sings, etc, it's pretty damn good.
I loved her in 'Seducing Mr. Perfect,' and hopefully she'll be good in this one. If not, she has her underwear line thats making her millions anyways.

As for Kim Rae Won, one word: HOT! hAHaha.

Agree...
Kim Rae Won is super HOT guy!!!
And for Uhm Jung Hwa --> I blame the make up artist ruining her face like that, she's fine with light make up, but maybe because the title of the movie have the word scandal on it, she's trying to relate with the theme I guess. But I really like her on the movie 'Handy Man, Mr. Hong' she's cute there.

I seriously don't like the thick makeup she have in Insadong Scandal.

The makeup artist I think tried their best to make her look more scary and old as a villian, but ... ya, I think they succeeded on her makeups, she really does turn out to be evil and scary.

According to an interview of Uhm Jung Hwa, she said it herself that she was shocked after her makeup was done because she look so different, and she really look evil. Not only we think she look evil, she herself thinks so too. I think we, including Uhm Jung Hwa herself prefer lighter makeups.

Uhm Jung Hwa with lighter makeups looks more adorable and natural.
Uhm Jung Hwa even without makeups looks pretty good too, seriously, I saw her photos without makeups before, and she looks okay.

Its called "character actress". She can't look the way she looks at home if she were to play a dangerous villain in the movie, don't you think? I think this is well-thought of, and I salute her for braving the look. I bet she had fun. And by looking at these comments, I'd say they have achieved what they wanted from the new look.
