MBC rolls out a new female-centric daily sitcom

Shim Eun-kyung, Han Bo-bae

MBC is coming out with a new sitcom, and it features a couple of the more notable faces of the child-star set: Shim Eun-kyung and Han Bo-bae. The young actresses play close friends in the upcoming series called Tae-hee, Hye-gyo, Ji-hyun [태희혜교지현이], which will be the first sitcom for both. Shim will keep to her tomboyish image, while Han’s character is feminine and sweet.

The sitcom is actually targeted toward an ajumma audience (although, really, aren’t most daily/family dramas?), and aside from these two 14-year-olds, the cast also features a number of well-known actresses aimed to draw in a 30- to 50-year-old viewership.

Shim Eun-kyung is one of Korea’s rising young actresses, having turned heads with her bright performances in Hwang Jini (playing young Ha Ji-won) and Legend (as young Lee Jia). She was called Korea’s newest Little Sister (supplanting now-adult Moon Geun-young) and most recently starred in the short KBS minidrama Kyung-sook, Kyung-sook’s Father.

Han Bo-bae, meanwhile, played Choi Jin-shil’s impish middle-school daughter in The Last Scandal of My Life, had a recent role in Empress Cheon-chu, and also appeared in dramas Big Sister and New Heart.

The series is described as taking a cheerful look at the lives of its female leads, their families, and friends. The older cast includes actresses Park Mi-sun (Boy Goes to Heaven), Jung Sun-kyung (Catch a Kangnam Mother), Hong Ji-min (On Air), Kim Hee-jung (First Wives Club), Jang Hee-jin (Hello My Teacher), and Choi Eun-kyung (Happy Time).

I usually don’t like Korean sitcoms — which are never as funny as I think the name requires — but I admit I find the overtly female-centric approach to this series appealing and may try to catch it.

The sitcom premieres on March 2 and airs Monday through Friday.

Han Bo Bae was a little too acty in Last Scandal, but Shim Eun Kyung was pretty good in what little I saw of her in Women of the Sun. I don't watch sitcoms anyway, but I like the idea. And I love the title, lol.

Sarah, I know you don't usually watch daily sitcoms, but since you brought up the subject I was curious to know if you've ever seen Unstoppable Marriage and if you had, how was it? I kind of would like to see Kim Dong-wook and Seo Do-young (what? I liked him in Spring Waltz) again...but gah, 140 eps!

Ohh, I personally think Park Mi Sun is hilarious!! I never knew she was an actress because she tends to appear as an MC for variety shows.

@3 (I'm not javabeans, just happen to have the same name haha)
to be honest, unstoppable marriage was a huge bore. there were certain funny parts, but nothing memorable. i stopped midway because it was just a waste of time. the lead girl was disappointing. i only watched it for lee jung and jaejin (but jaejin never did anything so...).

i would instead recommend you check out unstoppable high kick (the sitcom that shot jung ilwoo, park minyoung, and kim bum to fame)! very enjoyable =)

@Sarah:
thank you for your opinion. I've heard good things about Unstoppable high kick, but ahem, I was going to watch UM just for Kim Dong-wook and Seo Do-young. Also UHK has even more eps than UM and I don't think I can last that long. Or rather, I could watch like 8 regular dramas instead of UHK and I'd rather doing that. After all, I'll get my Kim Bum fix soonish, through Boys before flowers ;)

Thanks again, though

Shim Eun Kyung is just adorable. Plus she got to play One Creepy Girl in a dark fantasy movie with Chun Jung Myung -- Hansel and Gretel. Highly recommended!

"Tae-Hee, Hye-Gyo and Ji-Hyun - the queens"

I think Kobe just found his all-time favorite sitcom. Wanna die?!? :D

^^ Loved watching Taemin in here~~ It was such a good drama~ :)

Eunkyung and Junsu(Taemin) were so cute.. Taemin's acting really developed from the beginning to the end of the series~ ^^ So sad it ended..xDxD

Initially I watched a little bit becasue of TM but then I got hooked, BoBae is soo funny hehehe.. TM always forgetting her name.

My favourite character was Shim EunKyung, she was so good at acting and Im glad she's now the nations little sister~ :D
