Ogamdo’s hot new faces

There’s a new omnibus film coming out, Ogamdo (not sure yet if it’ll get an English title), which is the next project for Happiness director Heo Jin-ho.

While it stars some marquee names (Jang Hyuk, Kim Min-sun), the announcement of its lesser-knowns is also drawing attention, particularly as the younger cast members are gaining popularity in the latest “kkot-minam” (pretty boy) trend.

Case in point: Jung Eui-chul and Lee Shi-young, whose names shot to the top of online searches after appearances on star-making drama Boys Before Flowers. Jung (top left) was the devious model Haje of recent episodes, while Lee (bottom left) played plastic beauty Min-ji.

As this is a multi-vignette film, it actually features five separate directors directing five separate short films. Interesting concept, but I wonder how they’re going to tie this into a cohesive whole — the unifying theme is a rather vague “love and eros.”

The six youths will form three high school couples in one short. In addition to Jung and Lee, you may recognize Kim Dong-wook (top, center) from his Coffee Prince days; the other three are less-known.

Song Joong-ki (top right, 24 years old), for instance, was most recently featured in the Jo In-sung and Joo Jin-mo film Frozen Flower and is also in the drama My Precious You. Shin Se-kyung (bottom center, 18) acted in the 2006 horror film Cinderella with Do Ji-won. And 23-year-old Lee Sung-min is mostly known as a CF model.

As for the “name” actors, well, there are a lot of them too, featured in the other shorts.

In order of their pictures above, they are:

Jang Hyuk (Tazza)
Kim Kang-woo (Marine Boy)
Kim Min-sun (Portrait of a Beauty)
Bae Jong-ok (The World They Live In)
Kim Su-ro (Our School E.T.)
Cha Soo-yeon (The World They Live In)
Cha Hyun-jung (Hong Gil Dong)

The film is shooting for a release in the first half of this year (ambitious plan, no?) and, with casting now complete, filming is to begin shortly.

    sounds interesting.
I’m excited to see Dong Wook, the sound of his name brings back calls of MY CHAAAAN!

sounds a little like paris, je t’aime

Aww, I miss the “My-chan”s! (I also recently rewatched the series and it made me SO nostalgic for it…weird, huh?)

And, I second Anonymous (#2)’s comment.

Ha, funny, I was just rewatching little snippets of Coffee Prince too. (To remind myself in a fit of BBF frustration — Episode 11 — that trendy dramas can be made well.)

  5. Genie

It does sound like paris, je t’aime. I loved that movie though.
Let’s see how this one goes.

    @javabeans: SERIOUSLY!

  7. fizzle

  8. ohgeeze.

Kim Dongwook! Ah, he’s such a cutie. I miss him.

    Yay, Jung Euichul again.
    Looking forward to this.

Loved Jang Hyuk in Thank You as well.

    Lots of big name actors.

Hmm, I’ve seen some really well done omnibus-type features, but I don’t really see how it could work without a single director whose vision/style could unite the different stories. (Anyone seen Chungking Express?) Happy to be proved wrong, though.

funny! i was JUST rereading recaps of coffee prince and listening to the soundtrack… and bittersweet for reminders of lee eon and remembering what it was like to be part of the craze that summer.

Chungking Express is the gold standard. You can’t watch anything these days be it films, music videos, magazine spreads without seeing Wong Kar Wai’s huge influence. The last few moments of Que Sera Sera with Eric following the lead girl down the streets was so WKW and then him finding her sleeping and she wakes up and she looked just like Faye Wong in 2046. I just loved it. I wish she could have played Jandi…she could look tough and still look so vulnerable. Sigh! But I am feeling strangely very optimistic about the next half of BBF. Jandi will have a different look and she will be chasing GJP. LMH has been so warm and emotional in the first half and I am looking forward to watching him being aloof and distant. He’s going to break all of our hearts….Can’t wait!

    yay! I love these actors

Funny thing, I watched No regret yesterday and to my surprise there was Kim Dong-wook who had a nice role.Took me a few minutes to recognize him, what with the different haircut and the huge black-rimmed glasses. Still, it was nice seeing again.

Ah, so I’m not the only one who, when needs cheering up, rewatches random snippets of CP? Glad I’m not alone :)

As for the movie, it sounds interesting.

  14. 14 nara

yeah ..the best part of CP…is…MY CHAAAAN….btw..I’ve seen Jang Hyuk ” Dance Of The Dragon”…love it

  15. 15 aoun

Song Joong-ki is so adorable in My Precious Child. And good to see Dong-wook again. Hope he is as cute as in CP, or more. Looking forward to it.

  16. 16 galadriel

Song Joong-Ki is such a good young actor. I follow My Precious You closely and his dramatic scenes are amazing. a good, convincing crier.

  17. 17 Porcelain

This sound interesting can’t wait to see how it turns out…

Paris je ta’ime… New York I love you… have anyone seen this? I heard there was a Shanghai version in the making…

From Korea… I quite like a couple of movie, not really omnibus but linking stories like… Sad Movie (Jung Woo Sung, Im Soo Jung, Shin Min Ah), All for Love/The Most Beautiful Week of my Life (Uhm Jung Hwa, Hwang Jung Min, Kim Soo Ro), My Love (Uhm Tae Woong, Choi Kang Hee, Gam Woo Sung, Lee Yeon Hee, Jung Il Woo)…thus am really excited to see how this movie will turn out…

And I thought I was the only one being nostalgic listening to CP’s soundtrack and missing Gong Yoo… the craziness that was the previous summer… Gong Yoo enlistment, Lee Eon sudden death(Miss you my gentle giant)… Kim Jae Wook in Antique(can anyone get sexier??), good to know that Kim Dong Wook “My Chaaannn….” is here and Yoon Eun Hye and her artsistic pursuits…

Apologizing for spazzing like a nut…. If there is a film god… please let that be Wong Kar Wai… If there is a anyone as representative from his movies that will be Faye Wong and Tony Leung… he needs to come back with new stuff soon, its eon since 2046…

And please let BBF momentum continue to awe us all not floor us… ^_^
