I watched the first Iljimae and really loved it, so much that I almost overlooked this drama, which I now know would have been a great tragedy!

I can honestly say after seeing the first 7 episodes, that I am truly impressed with the beauty, grandeur, splendid production, cinematography and casting.

Although, I enjoyed SBS Iljimae immensely, this drama seems to have none of the flaws and imperfections of it's predecessor. The Return Of Iljimae is rich in detail, character development and devoid of overtly slapstick humour which can grow to be an annoying distraction. SBS Iljimae, although on it's own is a great entertaining drama, I constantly found my self analysing areas that I would improve upon, this version continues to amaze and astound in everyway, with beautiful scenery and scope. There is a much vaster panorama and depth to the story and character that is Iljimae, and a more serious tone, that is not tainted by ridiculous moments of over-acting or exagerated humour!

@#2 - Peeps

No; Koreans dont randomly kiss strangers, but this is a story and its like *o* when you watch it XD

Anyways, thanks for the recaps ^^
Sometimes I rewind the drama just because the first part I'm too focused on the scenery, than go back and actually WATCH the drama >.<

I agree with you. I really like the serie "return of Iljimae". I liked the first one too. It really well done and the actress can act...
I think people like BOF because of the successful yoko Kamio HYD'effect and because of shallow things like "the guys are hot" that's all.

Well, I have been watching both the series "Boys before Flowers" and "The return of Iijimae" and by viewership rating, the respond from the "Boys before flowers" is overwhelming but by comparison of story line and acting skills, "The return of IIjimae" is just as solid. The story of "Boys before Flowers" is very stale, and the actress, I should say, has sometimes over-reacted in her acting which can appear very un-natural. The main actor of Boys before Flowers is the only actor that I think is worth mentioning. The rest of the actors are just like promotional posters. It is undeniable that the actors are young and good looking but most of them are still inexperienced. What they usually did was is to smile. Although the actor for "the return of Iijimae" is also just a newbie but his acting skill has been improving from episode to episode. It is not easy to act in period drama as it has to encompass very explicit expression. The actress for "the return of iijimae" is also very natural in her acting. All in all, "The Return of Iijimae" deserves an applause for all its hard work.

haha, db, this is the first time i'm actually following your recaps one episode at a time instead of 10 or more...like BV that i just finished watching.
i love this version of iljimae... i have always imagined iljimae to be "elegant" and "cool"...so the last one. hmm, first one, didn't do it for me.
since traveling is my other passion, besides kdrama and jay chou, i love the beautiful pictures in iljimae, esp. the episodes taken place in china. yes, they are soooo PRETTY. i'm so tempted to make a reservation for my summer trip there. do you know where in china did the film take place?
