Back to work for Sohn Tae-young

We’ve been hearing a lot about Kwon Sang-woo‘s recent projects following his marriage and the birth of his first child, and now it’s wifey Sohn Tae-young‘s turn.

She’ll be making her television return only three months after giving birth to the couple’s son in February. Sohn will be starring in SBS’s upcoming daily drama Two Wives [두 아내], which will replace the current ratings topper Wife’s Temptation.

Sohn plays a single mom of a young daughter who operates a wine store and flower shop, who falls in love with a divorced man who has a family from his first marriage. However, before they can marry, he is involved in a car accident and loses his memory. This, naturally, creates problems between his new love and his first wife. Cast as the male lead is Kim Ho-jin (Empress Cheon-chu, Seoul 1945), while the first wife will be played another new mom, actress Kim Ji-young (Forever the Moment, My Lovely Fool).

Two Wives premieres on May 4. With husband Kwon Sang-woo set to act in the KBS drama Cinderella Man (which follows Return of Iljimae on MBC in April), that means both spouses will be back at work at the same time (although not in the same timeslot). Wait, who’s taking care of the infant son?

Hmm... I'm definitely not a fan of both parents working at the same time when their son is so young. Sure, you can hire nannies, but they're missing the whole new-parent experience! And.. another car-accident-amnesia plot! Nooo...

^Agreed. But since she's already in a drama, hope it goes well ^^;;;

And that dress looks exactly like my mom's blanket, except pink >.<

Amnesia plot! teehee, if the drama is good I don't mind the amnesia XD

it's funny how you say she's returning to work. Before she married Kwon SAngwoo, she never really had much work at all.

Oh no, not another 'memory lost' plot. Can't the writers come up with something other than 'memory lost' and 'falling in love with the same person twice' ?

This couple is really making a lot of noises. I'll wait and see how long their marriage lasts.

there's always so much hate for STY and all she did was marry KSW. i don't love her but all the negativity for her makes me feel bad for her

lots of parents go back to work soon after the birth of a child. Shouldnt hold it against her just for wanting to work! plus as female actresses get older, the parts that they are offered becomes more and more narrow and circumscribed, she should work more to advance her career while she is still relatively young.

Federal mandated leave in the US is only 12 weeks (unpaid), so going back to work 3 months after the baby is born is pretty common. I too went back to work 3 months after becoming a mom. I'm sure the baby will be well taken care of especially if there are Grandmas around. Given the competition in the industry, I can understand her wanting to get back to work. STY Fighting! Good luck balancing it all :)

The plot has a remarkable similarity to that of 2003 KBS drama "Wife" (아내) starring Kim Hee Ae and Uhm Jung Hwa as the 2 wives.

Yeah, I think the grandparents will be able to take care of the kid. And I think that's actually the norm in Asia, where the extended family is an integral part of the family.

Several of my cousins in Taiwan saw more of my/their grandma than they did their mom when growing up!

#6: i also think that she is getting slammed just because she married ksw in such a whirlwind romance...but y anticipate their divorce?

many ppl are raised by their grandparents more than their parents...besides, marriage, honeymoon, new baby, will all cost money, especially the raising of a kid. nothing wrong with the wanting to work. but yeah, maybe they should have arranged their time...give and take.

but wife's temptation is a LONG drama isnt it? so, maybe she will have more resting time as two wives will be around the same thing, no? ...i mean, imagine her acting with BOF schedule. now that is what i call wrong decision.

"It’s funny how you say she’s returning to work. Before she married Kwon SAngwoo, she never really had much work at all"

Hmmmm, I agree. Tis' a fact that she's never has much career as an actress before, just a host/MC for some programme, a movie once for awhile, and supporting role for some drama (a.e. Iljimae). So offcourse she doesn't want to waste an offer as a leading lady for a drama, although she has to leave her infant son at home for that. That's why she married KSW after all.

"Federal mandated leave in the US is only 12 weeks (unpaid), so going back to work 3 months after the baby is born is pretty common. I too went back to work 3 months after becoming a mom. I’m sure the baby will be well taken care of especially if there are Grandmas around"

Julier, that condition can be applied if the person is a government/common worker, STY case is different. She's a host/actress and the wife of one of top actor in Korea, so she doesn't need to go back to work so soon. And she must not need money either (her husband can give it to her).

If this is a reflection of what kind of live they will be through, I pity her son...

Working isn't only about money, you know? Why don't you all tell Kwon Sang Woo to stay home and take care of the child while she does her drama? A father is just as important as a mother and working three months after giving birth, regardless of who she is doesn't show child neglect.

I only know her from one drama (One Million Roses) but I support her in her quest as a working mom. She wouldn't be the first, nor will she be the last.

And believe me, just because a woman's husband is rich doesn't mean she's satisfied living off his earnings. The world is full of opportunities and just because a woman has a family doesn't mean that she can't also have a career.
