Han Ye-seul dubs Monsters vs. Aliens

Han Ye-seul (Tazza, Miss Gold Digger) is lending her voice for the Korean dub of the upcoming Dreamworks animated film, Monsters vs. Aliens in 3D.

She completed the dubbing for the main character Ginormica (voiced originally by Reese Witherspoon) in early March. In the movie, the story kicks off with her character being hit by a meteor on her way to a wedding, which causes her to grow to a height of 15 meters; she is subsequently deemed a monster.

(This also explains the buzz a few days ago that Han was hobnobbing with Dreamworks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg; the reports seemed overhyped then, and they probably are. Which means: No, she’s probably not planning her crossover just yet. Then again, with all the Hallyu stars trying to make the jump to Hollywood, we can’t rule her out, either. Han may be a limited actor, but she IS one a very small number of Korean actresses who can speak English fluently, and without accent.)

The film has a March 27 U.S. premiere, while it will open in theaters in Korea on April 23.

"I didn’t know she spoke English (properly)."

She's from El Cerritos, and she went by Leslie Kim (let's see . . Catherine, Grace, Leslie, and Joanne . . .yup, I think I just about covered half of the Korean Americans out there :D )

If you've seen her O'Live, you can definitely tell she's a SoCal girl through and through, and her Korean American SoCal accent is pretty strong. An extremely happy Cali girl, like the ones who ran for ASB in high school.

Hi belleza, not to be completely obnoxious, but it's Los Cerritos, though people that live here just call it Cerritos. She went to Cerritos College, apparently, because everyone I see in Korean markets in this neighborhood keeps mentioning that!

(And you're so right- I was totally a SoCal ASB girl in high school, we are a pretty chipper bunch.)

In regards to the hobnobbing with Katzenberg, a Korean company (CJ Entertainment) put up a ton of money (more than $130 million, I believe) when he first put together Dreamworks. I think all Dreamworks execs feel some form of obligation to the Koreans because of that, as well they should!

@jeanny,

"(And you’re so right- I was totally a SoCal ASB girl in high school, we are a pretty chipper bunch.)"

I heard that my old high school's ASB did a SNSD or Wonder Girls skit last year for one of their functions. ASB/IB people: subspecies of SoCal Asian, who

1. wears a HarvardStanfordPrinceton sweater,
2. kvetches 24/7 about their college essays
3. belongs to either Key Club or FBLA.
4. if is female and often dresses like they came back from a job interview, might be Korean. (And if she likes to dress in jumpsuits, she might be Taiwanese.)
5. if is Korean, male, always smiling and unusually helpful (ding! ding!), probably is named "Steve Cho/Park" but prefers to be called "Steve Oppa"

"but it’s Los Cerritos, though people that live here just call it Cerritos. She went to Cerritos College, apparently, because everyone I see in Korean markets in this neighborhood keeps mentioning that!"

Oh yeah, I could totally buy that. (BTW for people who don't live here, Cerritos like Fullerton or Gardena has a high Korean population.)

"I think all Dreamworks execs feel some form of obligation to the Koreans because of that, as well they should!"

I wouldn't be surprised if Ye Seul or her agency seems well connected. In her O'Live, it looked like she went to some kind of Hollywood private party or something. I

That's too funny. I am wincing at the same time though. Our shallowness is so apparent.

If you stood up and shouted, "STEVE OPPPPPPPPPPPA!!!!!!!" I wonder how many guys would auto-say, "wae?!"

@Samsooki,

"If you stood up and shouted, “STEVE OPPPPPPPPPPPA!!!!!!!” I wonder how many guys would auto-say, “wae?!”"

At my high school, it would have been about half of the Korean guys at our school ("see this dimple when I smile? that's my oppa dimple!") The other half would have been squatting with their boys, smoking cheap cigs, practicing how to look real tough/sleepy (aka the "It's Tough To Be Korean" look) and driving in lowered Civics while listening to Turbo(?!?). That's gangsta!!

It took My Man (aka Lee Jung Jae) to make me see the light. ;)

Wow, it seems like a whole different experience being a Cali Korean.
People from Jersey are always trying to integrate (aka be white) and it's so hard to find a fellow comrade to talk about the "motherland" with.

I usually have to call on my NYC friends to do that. >_<

It was funny though because the other day I was humming a Clazziquai song and my korean friends didn't notice anything different but my indian friend turns around says, "OMG! THAT WAS FROM SAMSOON!!" XD

"interested to know which other hallyu actors speak English fluent like…"

I was actually shocked at hearing Yun Jung Hoon (went to Pasadena High) speak English in the last episode of East of Eden. It was a total Cali dude accent. :D

Yun Jung Hoon, Lee Ji Ah, Lee Dae Hae, Park Min Young, Lee Seo Jin, Daniel Henney (sorry)

"Wow, it seems like a whole different experience being a Cali Korean"

I think my school experience was really extreme, though. K-pop stars were actually classmates of mine; I don't know if that's true for most people. :D That's also why I love Jung Ryeo Won. Her attitude and background reminds me of my 1/1.5 friends in school.

"It was funny though because the other day I was humming a Clazziquai song"

Speaking of Clazzi, I'm still 50/50 between seeing them this Saturday. Are you going to the Victory concert, Sarah? Anybody else?

Lol! This is hilarious! I had no idea about this Korean American experience. The "If you stood up and shouted, “STEVE OPPPPPPPPPPPA!!!!!!!” I wonder how many guys would auto-say, “wae?!”" comment cracked me up! :D

@ belleza - You forgot Hannah and Esther. ;)

LOL at all the comments. I guess the boys are still driving around in their lowered (automatic) civics with altered mufflers...aigoo... :P

"She went to Cerritos College, apparently, because everyone I see in Korean markets in this neighborhood keeps mentioning that!"

Cerritos College is a two-year A.A. college. No application/acceptance process. You just sign up, pay your fees, and show up.

"You forgot Hannah and Esther. "

LOL TRUE!!!

If her name is Hannah, then she was that who kept on inviting you to join her on a retreat around Christmas-time. Sweetheart though.

If her name is Esther, you had to hate her. All Esther Park/Kims/Yoons/Hans were the alpha bitches of your local clique. However, Esther was also redeemed by her GREAT taste in music, clothes and shoes, and so you always ended up going shopping with them.
