Han Hye-jin goes underwater in style
May 20th, 2009 // by javabeans

Pretty! (Although I think I’d like the shot better if her head were fully submerged, as in the photos below.)
Check out actress Han Hye-jin in an underwater spread for fashion mag In Style, which was shot at a hotel pool in Jeju Island. The shoot kept the actress underwater for more than six hours, and will be featured in the June issue.
Han’s last project was the SBS drama Terroir; she recently announced her next film, the crime thriller No Forgiveness, in which she’ll star opposite Sol Kyung-gu and Ryu Seung-beom.

its so pretty
I’m not really liking the last dress, but I agree that these are pretty.
Wow, 6 hours. What I wanna know is, how wrinkly was she when she got out? XD
the colors of her clothes are pretty and attractive… but the body shots, expressions…angles…lighting… are…??????? AWKWARD???? I hope she didnt stay 6 hours under water for these…. I would fire the photographer!
Pretty pictures, indeed, I really love the first picture!
(Re:twitter, I really love your in-depth recaps and love nothing more than a long one, honestly, so take lots of time, javabeans!)
I saw a photoshoot like this done in America’s Top Model before and all I can say is that she could have done better. Looks really awkward and it really seems like she had a hard time with the photoshoot.
It reminds me of this one photoshoot they did in ANTM where they had to fall “gracefully” into the water. Although I do like the concept, I don’t think it is done particularly well. The photoshop looks bad, the angles and poses are awkward. it just feels as though if they had waited a couple of seconds later, it might of been a better photo.
The colours are amazing. They really pop.
Unfortunately, she could have used a few tips from Jay Manuel from ANTM.
I think the third pose is her best shot of the lot.
I love the first picture! It’s hard to do this kind of picture (having to shoot couple times before) and to make the model to stay gracefully in the water it takes a lot of effort. So I really appreciate the photographer who can take this nicely.
These are beautifully done!
Props to the photographer.
I like the concept. The dresses are nice. The poses are awkward. And a bit more below water would have been nice too.
Yeah, I saw this sort of concept done on America’s Next Top Model awhile back and if I was to compare this to what the models on ANTM, I’d say this is really bad. Her body looks all awkward and the camera angle is pretty bad. Other than that, I love the water and the color of the dress together. It looks so tropical and to me that’s a good thing! I love colors! LOL Her face looks really pretty in the first photo!
wow. i like the reflecting effect of the 1st & 3rd pic
I want to like the shoot; it’s beautiful. It rubs me the wrong way that it seems ripped directly off the Drew Barrymore spread in Elle.
I mean, I guess shooting underwater isn’t a totally unique idea, but the Elle shoot was what came to mind when I saw this. Eh.
And if we were looking at both shoots disregarding originality, I’d say this shoot is sub-par to the Elle one. It’s no offense to the actress or Style, but Drew Barrymore has this Lady of Shalott / pre-raphaelite look that really sold the underwater look. Done otherwise seems weaksauce in comparison.
it’s hard to open your eyes under water isn’t it..

wow.
compared to Drew Barrymore, HJH’s poses and expressions look like a fish underwater…hehe….
wow really pretty!!
I like the idea of underwater photographs but the poses are awkward. I like the 1st picture although having her head completely submerged would have looked prettier. The 2nd and 3rd pictures are awkward and do not display her beauty to the fullest. It seems that underwater photograhs and underwater scenes are “in” right now.
@ Womae
Thanks for the link…. i love the pics of drew barrymore in here, as if she’s having fun and a lot.
she’s so pretty..!!! ^_^
Wov, I like the first picture most. She’s so pretty and look like a Mermaid.
I think, it’s difficult to stay underwater such a long time with smiling face.
Unique
Have to agree about the poses. It seems as if Han Hye-jin was captured in the buoyant moments of effort, before being fully submerged and more relaxed. As said previously a few seconds later may have been the moment.
Would like to see if any of the shoot was of HHJ on the rise from the bottom of the pool, to just breaking the surface with her arm.
Love the colours of the first two pictures, more aqua dwelling maiden than the third.
She is so attractive.
But…
I Love song il gook too.
He is so pretty & handsome.
yeah! this the very same thing that drew barrymore din in her photoshoot. i first saw the pix when she was in the ellen de generes show..and the pix were beyond amazing. i’d love to love HHJ’s photoshoot but i just saw something better than this…waaaay better!
Similar photoshoot was done on ‘Make Me a Supermodel’ too and I have to say the shots came out better too. The models were able to sustain more intense look. The body lines and expression was more unique too. In the HHJ pictures, it seems the hands are in the same position for all three pictures.
I do admire HHJ for enduring 6 hours underwater!! That is excessive unless you are training for the Olympics. She was also able to maintain composure with her eyes open. I definitely would fail miserably if I had to do this.
The underwater shots look so cool!
Lovely shots!

I think she looks ok but it not enough for a magazine spread! I know I should not be comparing but (I’ll add fuel to the fire hehehe) I saw the magazine with Drew Barrymore in Elle and her was amazing and graceful! I’m sorry but Han Hye-jin looks kinda scared in the first pic!
How did she manage to keep her eyes open underwater?
…yap nothing compare to Drew Barrymore in Elle…hmmm a good photoshop maybe? i dont know but for me this is more natural…
LMFAO.
i like the 1st and 3rd pix. The 2nd one looks as if her face is bloated from being in the water too long.
pretty…but i think thats the same concept as drew barrymore’s issue of vogue US~
i think~
oh well~
LOL…when I saw the pictures I thought of ANTM too!!! Hmm…is that where the photographer got the idea? I personally don’t like the 2nd pic (looks like she’s having a hard time finding a pose) but liking the 3rd one. She’s pretty-haven’t seen her in awhile.
I like her and she’s one of the prettiest actress around and i’ve always wanted to do the similar underwater photoshoots. Awesome!
i don’t think it’s the photoshop or the lighting or the dress. it’s her. and obviously, the photographer. she doesn’t look graceful in any of these like she usually when she’s.. well.. not under water. here, all i can see is a bad swimmer in a pretty dress.
its really difficult to posed underwater.. and it looks great…
I want write a message for han hye jin. I hope read this message for her.
