Drama Casting & News
Barista-turned-lawyer Kim Dong-wook
by | June 2, 2009 | 25 Comments

Kim Dong-wook‘s claim to fame was his role as scene-stealing, impish Ha-rim in PD Lee Yoon-jung‘s Coffee Prince, but now he’ll be starring in PD Lee’s competition, law drama Partner. How’s that for gratitude? (I kid, I kid!)

He and actress Shin-yi have been added to the cast, which already stars Kim Hyun-joo (Insoon is Pretty), Lee Dong-wook (La Dolce Vita), Choi Chul-ho (Queen of Housewives), and former Miss Korea and classical musician Honey Lee.

Kim Dong-wook will play the youngest lawyer at the law firm who comes from a wealthy family but also has a quirky and “fourth-dimensional” personality. I can totally see it already! Meanwhile, Shin-yi is back on television five years after her last drama, What Happened in Bali, and plays a comic role here.

Competing timeslots don’t affect how I watch a drama, but I wonder if Partner and Triple will cut into each other’s audiences. Swallow the Sun starts a month later but will likely draw a different crowd.

Partner airs on KBS on Wednesdays and Thursdays, premiering June 24.

See? I knew there needed to be a younger lawyer in the cast!
Okay, so it’s not Jung Il Woo….
but I’m fine with Kim Dong Wook.

    “quirky and “fourth-dimensional” personality”
    :D

Need to add Choi Dong Wook (Se7en) to complete the casting.

or Shin Dong Wook….what’s he up to these days?
Has he gotten a haircut yet?…or did he just give all his hairbands to his cousin?

my chan!!! ahhhh cannot wait for it!!

  9. MEIKO**** ^-^

just loved this “my chan” guy in CP!!! He cracked me up whenever he would look for “my chan”, and the part where he got irritated with GY for making YEH his “hyung”, instead of him was pretty funny too!

    Good Luck!!!

I liked him in CP too. Funny how his character was the last one (except Han Gyul) to know about Eun Chan’s secret, when in the novel he was actually the first one to find out among the Coffee Princes.

    @hjkomo
But…but… I liked SDW’s hair with the hairband. Not everyone can pull that off, but of course, not everyone liked it either. That’s ok though, I hope that deterred more girls (and Samsooki, if ever..hehe) from swooning over him, that means more SDW for me – as if… :D

    @ Snikki
yeah, he definitely can pull it off better than Kim Ki Bum ;)
It wasn’t so much the hair….as the plastic stretchy-comb headband *shudders*

Yay, Kim Dong Wook! He was my favorite Coffee Prince. The cast for Partner keeps looking better and better.

Oooh, Shin Yi. I remember character her from WHIB. I can’t imagine her playing anything other than a comic role.

This is weird just today I was re-watching CP (prep for Triple) and was wandering if we’d see him in another drama again soon and walah he’s in Partner. Im assuming Partner is a more serious drama rather than comical so I wonder how he’ll fit in. Anyway can’t wait, great cast, quite interested in watching them all on screen, wonder who will shine the most?

Am I the only person that is super excited to see Shin Yi back on the small screen? She’s absolutely hilarious!

  22. 22 bd

His character in CP “teaching” Min Yeop how to be a “player” was pretty hilarious as well.

  23. 23 hanjanman

    @ Jihwan

No you’re not alone! I love her! She’s super hilarious!!! I so loved her character in WHIB. I have been wondering where she’s been. Last time I saw her was in the last installment of Marrying the Mafia. There was a scene in the film where she was together with the police and, donning a catsuit, was trying to avoid the xray alarm beams in a well guarded mansion. Before she started, she told everyone to beware as it might look ‘erotic’! I was laughing my head off at that scene.

I’m so looking forward to Partners now!

  24. 24 cosmopolite

    Wow…the cast is cool. :)

  25. 25 jes

MY CHAN! :) :) LOVE THIS CUTIE.
hahaha he’ll be the reason i watch partner! :D
