Open Thread #86

What’s up, folks? I’m actually (probably) on a plane as this Open Thread posts — I’ll be on a trip for the weekend so posting will be a little lighter, but be sure to check back ’cause I’ve got some goodies planned! Hehe. Gotta love delayed blog-posting functionality. Er, I mean supa-sonic time travel, yeah that’s it.

It's been a while since I would be laughing so much at comments. Thanks, everyone!

My friend told me about Goong 4 (is it already 4 years??) years ago, so that's how I've got addicted. Once I saw MNIKSS in 2006, I've started to show it to anyone willing to watch at least one first episode. I knew they would be hooked and it never failed :o). The best thing was when husbands of my friends (2 of them, to be exact) would be looking up things about series and Kim Sun Ah and tell me whatever news they were able to find.
The sad part is that my sister in law still did not see it and she is Korean. I cannot convince her :o(.

From the KJH part 2 thread:

"16 wollamsam - Jun 9, 2009 at 3:11 am
i just read that JJH got sentenced to a year imprisonment. is this true? i thought he would get more."

Actually, JJH hasn't been sentenced yet - that will likely happen June 23. Earlier this morning (June 9, Korea time), JJH did plead guilty to all charges (using X on two occasions) however. Apparently the prosecution is asking for a year in jail and a small fine. This news came out just a few hours ago from The Korea Times (staff reporter Park Si Soo).

From the report:

""I'm sorry,'' Joo said in a low voice. ``I consumed drugs while I was drunk.''

What is interesting is that while the charges on some of the other indicted people are identical, apparently the prosecution will seek much higher jail sentences from them, ranging from 5-7 years.

If it is true that the negotiated result is to be that JJH is going to serve a bit of time, then go directly into military service, then JJH will have a very hard road set out before him for the next 3 years...

This is potentially very good news though. If he keeps the right attitude and holds onto his faith, JJH could come out a stronger man.

Reading Samsookie's current posts and comparing them to posts not too log ago asking for drama recommendations and where to watch etc. brings tear to my eyes. I guess you are really that obsessed to travel this long road so fast. The other interesting thing is I notice Samsookie's tastes in kdrama has also evolved subtly.

@154, nycgrl

I think we all evolve over time - sometimes for the better and with good purpose, and sometimes just differently. As we watch, as I read what JB writes, as I read the comments of other posters and commenters, as I read blogs on other sites, as I read and listen and watch interviews, I cannot help but start to change how I think and feel about things. I think its a good thing.

But yeah, I do get obsessed over things I like. LOL. It's my personality! I think of it as a positive though, because since I was like 15 years old, I have sort of felt that time is so precious, in such short supply, that whatever I do, I have to do it to the maximum otherwise I am just wasting time. At 15, I felt like a significant fraction of my life was already gone and past, and how would I feel at 30, or at 45, or 60?

And I found these dramas and I found how much they touched me, and how they made me feel like I was not a lost soul, but connected and related to a larger community of people that were interesting, good looking, with tremendous passion for life and living and love.

I think that's why a lot of people like k-dramas. It's the dramas' actors' evocation of passion that makes their lives so interesting, and I find it worth emulating.
