Yoon Sang-hyun storms the Lady Castle
Ohhhhhh! This was not expected! Queen of Housewives hottie Yoon Sang-hyun (the “thirtysomething Gu Jun-pyo”) has scored big with his follow-up project: acting opposite Yoon Eun-hye in the upcoming romantic comedy series Lady Castle.
A lot of name actors had been mentioned as possibilities for this role — I’d heard murmurs of Kang Dong-won and Won Bin, as well as Lee Dong-gun or Kim Rae-won — but in the end it’s a fresher face (although he’s the oldest out of the bunch). I’m actually really pleased with this — Yoon Sang-hyun isn’t just a pretty face, he can do both comedy and drama, and although he’s a relatively green actor, he’s got tons of charisma.
Yoon Sang-hyun is a last-minute hire; he met with producers on June 23 and after coming to an agreement, they are heading into final contract negotiations. As soon as those are finalized, he’ll enter into filming immediately. He had actually been a strong contender to head Magazine Allo — which would have also been hunky-dory with me — but because of the plagiarism accusations and subsequent scheduling delays, he chose Lady Castle. (Maybe that’s why Magazine Allo producers were particularly peeved with Style for ruining their production.)
The story of Lady Castle situates Yoon Eun-hye as as the “princess-like” middle daughter in a rich household. She crosses paths with a poor man who becomes the household manager (who secretly aims to get at the family’s hidden slush fund), and is involved in a love triangle with him and a rich man from an aristocratic family. Yoon Sang-hyun is currently in discussions over which of these two characters he will play. (Just as long as he doesn’t pull a Kwon Sang-woo and play them both!)
Writers are Yoon Eun-kyung and Kim Eun-hee (When Night Comes, Winter Sonata — meh); director is PD Ji Young-soo (Flowers For My Life — yes!).
Lady Castle will air on Wednesdays and Thursdays on KBS after Partner ends at the end of August.

Ever since Queen of Housewives, I’ve been waiting anxiously to see what drama he would choose. I hope he pics the manager rather than be the rich dude (again).
I think the Yoon Sang HyunXYoon Eun Hye would be a cute pairing (too bad there’s 0 hope for them to pair up in rl due to the same last names.) heheheh. There are high possibilities would be the manager would fall in love with YEH… so I want YSH to be the manager >_____<

A little old imo but I can see him and Yeh having chemistry already, Im still not quite sure about the plot but it does look promising. Tbh Im just glad to see her on screen again, welcome back YEH, hope you mesmerise us all again.

I actually didn’t know he was new to the acting scene. But he definitely has the right acting chops to pull off drama and comedy.
Guys, check out Queen of Housewives and you’ll discover the charm and charisma of this guy. He totally rawks being romantic, sweet, playboy-ish, flirtatious.. everything! And he’s got this electrifying and sparkling pair of eyes.. to top it off, he has really good vocals too… maybe he can sing for the princess YEH?

Finally, a drama that doesn’t demand that I put it on my summer watch list. This, no offense to the writers/producers/actors/directers/etc. sounds just like a ton of the Korean dramas out there already…dramas that never managed to pull me in.
At first, I hoped that the male lead would be someone closer to Yoon Eun Hye’s age, but after watching Queen of Housewives, I think that he has a lot of charisma and is a good actor. Anyways, with or without him, I would still watch Lady Castle since it is YEH’s comeback to the small screen after two year of absence

I’ve been waiting for this forever….aaaaahh finally we’ll get to see it in August. I agree w/ you on writers, uhmmmm not a big fan of their projects, so I hope they’ll redeem themselves w/ this drama. After all they’re lucky to be working w/ PD JYS & cast headed by YEH……

Interesting… by strange coincidence, we rewatched our favorite episodes of Goong and Coffee Prince tonight, it was a Yoon Eun Hye night. I am surprised at how much I missed Coffee Prince.

i’m sure people who didn’t saw YSH acting before maybe are thinking that he is a bad actor which isn’t the case, he’s very talented but unfortunately he didn’t pick/ was given prominent roles like this (including QOH) , that’s why i loved this news, he is gaining attention for his acting abilities finally ^^

^maybe to you Yoon Eun Hye hasn’t reached A class yet, but all the articles in Korea classifies her as an A list actress and she is, having won the Best Actress at the 44th Baeksang Awards, the Top Excellence Award and also winner as Best Actress of the Grimme Awards. She was enable to join South Korea’s A-list of stars who also are members of the 20 million won club, which includes of Bae Yong-joon, Kwon Sang Woo, Ko Hyun Jung, and Song Il kook.

Try to do that I you will find that Yoon eun Hye is among the first ten for females!! Of course she is an A-list actress in Korea. She was even voted the second most liked korean actressed in Thailand after Song Hye Gyo.!!

Yoon Sang Hyun was so adorable in Queen of Housewives. He is a great actor who has been under the radar for awhile. I am so excited that he’ll be one of lead guys acting with Yoon Eun Hye. He is very lucky cause YEH is known in the korean industrry as the girl with the “golden touch”, “lady luck” and “miss ratings guaranteee”. I believe that they’ll have great chemistry too.

i’ve been seeing YSH in several dramas since 2005, and always he’s playing bad guy or something. He looks old even then. But i’m surprise on how he re-invent himself in QUEEN of Housewives. I think i will watch it.

OK – YEH is definitely an A-list celeb/actress; as for her acting skills, she (as well as Gong Yoo) definitely racheted up their game for “Coffee Prince” (amazing what a great script and a heady director can do).
If YEH builds on her CP acting, I think it would be fair to say that she has established herself as a pretty good actress; of course, not on the level of a Jeon Do-Yeon, but very few ever reach that level.
As for the writers – I agree w/ the “meh” comment (likely to be standard K-drama fare).
As for the director, I don’t have as high hopes as javaB since I thought “Flowers For My Life” was almost unwatchable after the excellent/quirky first hour -basically – poor acting, ridiculous scenarios, crappy dialogue, poor pacing and worst of all, totally predictable and hitting all of the K-drama cliches (and not in a good way like CP).

Couldn’t agree more. I think 2009 will be the year that I watched the most dramas back to back. Suddenly 2009 became so packed with interesting and comeback dramas when 2008 was so lackluster.

Yeah, 2008 was a real slumber year! Story of a Man/Slingshot marked the beginning of a great year and I couldn’t agree more with @46: it is indeed raining interesting dramas this year ^^ Whether they’re all good has yet to be discovered

Will definitely be following the news for this new drama. I’m looking forward to see YEH after her two-year absence. Not sure if I’m sold on the storyline but we’ll wait and see.
Not really know Yoon Sang Hyun as an actor much, but from what I’ve heard/read so far he is a good actor (has passion for acting just like YEH) so I guess it’s enough. As long as the leading man’s acting is compatible with YEH’s I’m not complaining. Now I have something to look forward to… : )

For those who’ve never seen him in a drama. You need to watch Queen of Housewives. He was so unexpectedly charming, charismatic and good-looking.. I initially saw him in “3 Daddies and One Mommy” but he was only in it briefly in the beginning because he dies. I’m looking forward to this drama. I also like Yoon Eun Hye after watching Goong, Coffee Prince and Vineyard Man.

kween, YEH said that statement not because her role in LC is out of her comfort zone, but because she doesn’t want to feel burden by her previous dramas who had high rating. If the role is out of her comfort zone, why she’s waiting this drama to be broadcasted although the production co. has problem with the law (Korean drama board banned them for giving Park Shin Yang too high salary). And for that, she has turned down many dramas offer. YEH is known in Korean entertainment industry as an actress who’s good at picking her next project. So aside from the “cheesy” storyline, I think YEH see some potential in this drama.

I’ve actually only seen Exhibition of Fireworks and One Mom and Three Dads with Yoon Sang Hyun in it…. and to be honest I ABSOLUTELY HATED Yoon Sang Hyun AND his character in Exhibition of Fireworks…but then again I hated the drama itself… and since his screen time in One Mom was so minimal, his character never really grew on me…. It sounds like I should watch Queen of Housewives to see a new side of him?

I am so happy that yoon eun hye will star in a new drama “Lady Castle” but felt sad knowing the actor who will act opposite her. of the many actors being eyed on the role why should it be him. the way i see it, they won’t look good together, the actor has no charm at all. I hope the production team will changed him
I am very happy that Yoon Sang Hyun will be playing the butler in Lady Castle. It’s about time he got a leading role. He was the best thing in Marrying a Millionaire and is role in Queen of Housewives was a breakthrough (we even got to hear him sing). Love his brilliant eyes and total charisma. I am sure he will have great chemistry with Yoon Eun Hye since he had it with Kim Nam Joo in QOH.
The age difference shouldn’t be an issue. There are thousands (if not millions) of couples in the world with a ten-year or older age difference (e i Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta Jones), so why are people so shocked or disgusted? I am sure this will work nicely for this comedy.
i agree with you javabeans Yoon sang ssi got tons of charisma! i’ve liked countless Korean actors since i came to get addicted to K dramas but after seeing Yoon sang ssi in Queen of Housewives, i just can’t explain the feeling how much i like him now. When i saw him first in 3 Dads then followed by Marrying a Millionaire — in 3 Dads i didn’t really know him so i wasn’t paying much attention, then in Marrying…i started liking him and with QOH….the rest is history! He’s got an unexplainable charisma compared to other Korean actors i like! I’ll surely support all his projects without a doubt! He’s super cute & his acting in Queen…is just super funny & cute! Love his moustache, it suits him…I know some people commented that he shld shave it off but I think not! More power to you Yoon Sang ssi & keep up the good work! Yoon Sang hyeon definitely oozing with charisma, funny, cute, handsome, can really act….Queen of Housewives did it for him and I cldn’t be more happier for him as he deserves it! YSH is a real hottie in My Fair Lady ! The rest of the boys, inspite of their pretty faces and youth, pale in comparison to this new rising star !! Yoon Sang Hyun has that inexplicable ‘it’ factor that the camera manages to capture,,,,,, way to go !
This drama is very enjoyable and YSH definately sizzles with Yoon Eun Hae and i couldn’t wait for the next episode. The only negative comment is that clothes, especially worn by YEH could be more tasteful and less garish and loud.
But overall, this drama is very watchable and the chemistry between the two is pushing the rating higher with each episode. Well done.
