Fans flock to Gu Hye-sun’s art exhibit

As you may know, actress Gu Hye-sun (Boys Before Flowers) has been planning an exhibition of her drawings, which just opened this week in Seoul’s Insadong La Mer Gallery.

The exhibition is showing under the name “Tango” — which you may recall is also the title of her recently released novel. Coming hot on the heels of her leading role in the super-popular hit drama Boys Before Flowers, Gu’s book has been selling very well, and now her art show has also attracted an impressive attendance as fans have flocked to take a look. (Since the opening on July 1, weekday attendance has averaged 700 per day, while weekend traffic increased to 1,000. Many have come from Gu’s online fan café and members of fan forum DC Gallery.)

Proceeds from this event will go to charity, toward the “With Campaign.” Fan club members also collected funds and donated them at the art exhibit. The exhibit, which features fifty of Gu’s drawings, will close on July 7.

  1. She’s doing pretty well for a girl who can’t act or draw.. I kid I kid. Good on her for doing something like this, and she’s looking pretty too.

  2. Good Luck to her. I am glad to see her doing so many other things besides acting. Would like to see her again in a new Drama though.

  3. i find her artworks interesting.. she’s pretty good.

  4. I suprised to say that I actually really like the blue drawings she displayed.
I hope she really focuses and continues to develop her skills rather than just flitting from job to another.

  5. good luck to her! It’s nice to hear she’s doing it for a charitable cause :)
hehe, oh I saw on section tv that Kim Joon and Lee Minho came to see her!! so cute!

  6. i’m happy for her, she seems really down to earth…i’d like to see her doing more acting, but something more age appropriate and with more lines then just saying “huh” or “what” or “goo joon pyo!”

  7. She’s very talented. I like her paintings and it’s great that the money will be donated to a charity.

  8. I’m actually surprised that she is donating so much. I think many young stars my age wouldn’t think of donating so much when they are just starting out in their careers. Very cool- even if I don’t believe 100% that her work at present is worthy of an art opening.

  9. she looks less annoying than in the drama; i dont know why i hated her SO much in the drama that it prompted me to stop watching
    maybe it’s her over-acting
    less annoying here definitely!

  10. I saw her paintings honestly I don’t think they are all that great, her book? It was an OK book, I feel like I wasted my money for a simple chapter that said “I’m gonna change blah blah I DON’T NEED A MAN IN MY LIFE YA DIG?!” I couldn’t really connect with the author. Her acting? Well BOF was proof enough that she’s simply an Ulzzang.

  11. In fairness to GHS, she’s doing great & I admire her for donating the proceeds to charity. Obviously she’s a multi-talented lady but she should concentrate on one thing that she really love to do most. Human being can only do one thing at the same time. Anyway, goodluck to her career. Nice to know that LMH & Kim Joon went to visit her, it’s such a cute act to support a friend!

  12. i saw couple of more artworks of her.. i must say she is talented in drawing field. but not in the creative field.. all i saw was nudity..
i don’t know i thought they will be more conservative..
well i am discovering new stuff about SK everyday

  13. I saw an interview she did in the gallery, which left me in greater awe of this project simply because the sketches are huge (huger than I expected :P )! I used to draw quite a bit but would not consider myself anywhere near an artist since I’m limited to works under 18×24…but one of her pieces is almost larger than her.

  14. i saw something on it on Section TV, Lee Min Ho and Kim Joon were there too.

  15. Nice that it’s going to charity (:
But what does “With Campaign” support?

  16. i dont know somehow i kind of question her creativity in art fields
to me i think she’s kind of took on everything because she doesnt know what she’s good at …but the power of ullzang (am i spell it right?)do help..
because her position as actress or ullzang people expect so little from her…
so whatever she did seem to be overrated//
she is an ulzang who is an actess who ..
want to be a singer(not that great)
want to be director( she’s not up to par )
    want to be a writer..
    want to be an artist
come on… if you’re really really an artist… you dont have time to focus on medium to work on more than one or two…because you can’t put a meaning into your work of art in anyform..
and all of this have to thanks to her one talent that i believe she has which is “self-cam” that make her ullzang and open so many opportunities to show what ppl call talented..
i dont call this a talented.. i call this an experimental …

  17. Well done Gu Hye -Sun!! Keep up d good work. Despite being on top of d world u’ve not forgotten those unfortunate people out there. Forget about all d negative ( n sometime nasty) comments of focusing on one thing & doing too much…most important is to do things that makes u feel good…anyhow u only live once…Bravo again GHS…AHJA..AHJA, FIGHTING..

  18. they’re really amazing and adorable ever as couple minsun…………………..

  19. [...] Gu Hye-sun has been busy as an actress (Boys Before Flowers), writer (Tango), artist (also called Tango), and director (The Madonna). Now she’s putting on yet another hat as she begins working on [...]

  20. we just can’t put a good woman down neh?? It’s not as if she’s trying to be a van gogh! but the truth is, there is a clamor for her BRAND of work — u may call her works (book, paintings, etc) as POP art, but it’s art in itself!! i believe in her talents…she wants to do all the things she wants to do, and we got to give her credit for being able to pull everything off at such a young age.
She’s getting the respect of the entertainment industry and some of us here are just getting the same old life of being stock up snobs for not giving talents like her a chance. It’s ur life, and it’s hye sun’s life anyways…u go criticize her for being pretty and being an ulzang and she goes right UP there wd her ART :)

  21. i also saw minhoo at her art exhibit… i wish they could really be a couple for REAL.. i love MinSUn

  22. whoa, this is the first time I heard bad things about KHS. Like, c’mon, she’s an actress, artist, director, singer, the list goes on… that’s impressive. she’s got the talent for everything, why stick to one thing when you can do so much more? I bet all you ppl who dislike her can’t do what she did. write a book, release an album, open an art exhibition and STILL have the dedication to act in BOF while doing a good job at it, too. So all you idiots who says she’s an ulzang and crap at this or that, then you are effed up. so, you know, FUCK YOU!

  23. @luverofBOF
You got the words out of my mouth and I couldnt have said my sentiments any better. Those who do not, at the very least, get amazed at someone who can do what Hye Sun CAN DO may need to have their heads checked. (Or could it be the virus called envy at work?) But then, Hye Sun has the personality to be successful in whatever field she wants to focus on. Get ‘em riled up and envious, Hye Sun! There are more of us who’re cheering for you out here in the real world anyway.
