Ninja Assassin director plays homage to B-list ninja movies

Via Wired, here’s a short clip of Ninja Assassin director James McTeigue talking about the old movies that inspired his take on Ninja Assassin. No mention of star ninja Rain, but it does sort of confirm that the over-the-top, vaguely cheesy vibe of the preview video was an intentional style choice:

Cheesy indeed. It seems like a lot of readers were planning on watching it. I’m giving it a pass but let me know if you like it. :D

I am so there! I will drive as far as I have to to see this movie, no lie.

My tolerance for cheese is pretty high. For example, in 1975 when I was 10 years old, I saw Inframan for the first time, and I’m telling you it changed my life. Probably no one here has ever even heard of it, but I think that’s what started me down the path.

Glad to hear that the cheese is intentional since the title itself is cheese. This just confirms the fact I’ll find myself watching it.

i grew up on cheesy b ninja movies, monster movies, badly dubbed kung fu epics, and yes, i even watched ultraman, inframan, and lets not forget johnny soko. i am more inclined to watch this one now that i’ve heard what the director said. more excited for the cheese than for rain though.

Why waste the money? Borrow the DVD from someone who was crazy enough to buy it when it comes out, which should be a month after the initial theater release.
