while i’m all for actors being rewarded with such prestigious titles for their hard work and undoubtable talent, there are multiple reasons why “10M ticket” is the exception rather than norm for all the project they’re involved in. this exclusive “F4″ club strictly speaking are ensembles, hence their broad appeal. even with actors tagged as leads, the plots do spread over relationship dynamics of many different characters and their interests – and ultimately it IS a “magical” combination (chiefly direction & story) that brings home the bacon.

although most of the actors mentioned in this press are proven anyway, in the past it was often this same impulse of rushing to make some stars boxoffice names just from one or 2 hits, and getting funding based on just that (while skimping on the other pieces of the puzzle contributing to a well-made movie, like appropriate casting, able direction/script/tech crew etc.) — that led to the bubble of over-production, and current tightening of belts in the industry.

Sol Kyung-gu is already a 10-million-ticket actor, he is the lead star of Silmido which was the first Korean film to cross the 10 million threshold. If Haeundae manages to do the same, he’ll be the only actor with 2 films there.
