Hon goes underwater, on rooftops to build up horror
by | August 4, 2009 | 21 Comments

Hon looks like it’s really building up the creep factor with its bloody promo pictures, its adult rating, and eerie shoots, like this one which involved submerging lead actress Im Joo-eun underwater for ten hours.

Such was the harshness of the conditions that Im suffered symptoms of hypothermic shock; the shoot began in the afternoon and extended till dawn the next morning. This particular scene which will air in the drama’s second episode..

According to one of Im’s reps, the actress has a fear of deep water based on a traumatic memory of falling into the ocean in the past. To prepare herself for this shoot, she practiced swimming in advance, although she still found it difficult to shoot because of severe eardrum pain due to the depth of the water. Still, upon wrapping the shoot, she expressed her satisfaction with the results, saying, “I’m glad that it came out better than I thought.”

Meanwhile, another of the drama’s uncomfortably horrific scenes involves the suicide of a high school student, who falls off the roof of a five-story building. As the girl falls, she meets eyes with Im Joo-eun’s Hana character, and after her death, Hana starts to become more like the dead girl.

The drama premieres tomorrow, August 5.

if the production team is putting this much effort into making this drama as high quality and fulfilling as possible, i’m pretty sure that there is a high chance for high viewership rating. if they are trying this hard, they must be doing SOMETHING good; and that that makes me want to watch this drama (:

Even the thought of submerging myself in the water completely terrifies me… since I cannot swim and I have fear of going into the water like that. Scary…

My expectation is starting to pile up… it reminds me of a taiwanese thriller mystery drama bump off lover, where the mysteries occur in a school too~~ and there’s also water and rooftops scenes. This drama is looking extremely good.

Why does it seem like every kdrama seem to have some actor suffering some sort trauma during filming? Are these incidents just hyped up by the companies for promotion to create interest in the show or do korean tv companies just have really dodgy health and safety standards?

Hmmmm, I’m all for a scary drama. :D This looks good.

totally getting more and more interested in this drama!

Though this undoubtedly beats up the scary factor (they HAD to get good shots with the actress in the water for 10 hours) I wish they would pay more attention to the health of their stars.

i saw the first episode today and i loved it!
i hope they don’t kill off jiyeon’s character, doona, too early in the story though…

So many horror movies/dramas out lately!! I really wish I wasn’t such a scaredy cat because I would totally love to see all of these! The water photo reminds me of what Han Hye Jin did not too long ago. Except this photo looks creepy and unattractive.

Looks good! Can’t wait. I enjoy horror. I wonder why the shooting had to take so long? :( I wish they took more care to make sure the actors were ok. I think it is rahter overboard to work them until they get sick like that!!! :( Ah well Im really excited!!!

First episode was great! Even though it had typical East Asian horror cliches such a pale faced ghosts, it was full of suspense and mystery and a thrilling opening sequence!

Most importantly though, they kept the 19+ rating and didn’t seem like they edited anything out. Knives were NOT blurred out at all, in fact, they focused in on the knife a few times, and there was blood splatter everywhere! If they can keep this up it might turn out to be one of my favorites this year along with He Who Can’t Marry. I have full faith in k-dramas again :)

    Hi,
Wish you could recap this series, I’m a scardy cat at heart and I might not be able to watch this series, but it would be fun reading it. How weird is that I could read horror stories but not watch it. From your descriptions this series looks awesome.
