Wow, this is a surprise. One of Korea’s premier actresses, Dae Jang Geum and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance‘s Lee Young-ae, got married in a quiet ceremony in the States on August 24, attended only by a small group of family and very close friends. The announcement was made on the 25th through Lee’s legal rep.
The lucky man is a Korean-American businessman working in the IT industry identified only as Mr. Jung, who attended university in Illinois. The reason given for holding the ceremony in the U.S. is because the groom’s family and friends live there. Lee Young-ae did not divulge further details, concerned for the private life of him and his family.
The bride intends to live her married life in the U.S., although she stated the intention to continue acting and return to Korea for filming if a good project were to come her way.
Lee Young-ae said, “I truly thank all the fans who have supported me and given me love through the years, as well as those in the entertainment industry. In a short while, I will pay you my formal respects.”

WOW O_o… that surely is a surprise…
congratulation for her and her husband
she is so gorgeous!
guess she’s been dating while being mia in entertainment!
hope they live happily ever after haha
Most Korean-American men I’ve seen (on TV and in my office) are hot! She deserves it though because she’s impossibly pretty. Congrats Jang Geum!!
wow! congratulations. this is definitely a surprise.
Interesting, considering that it seems a decent no. of Korean actresses are involved w/ Korean-Americans or have established other roots in the US (such as purchasing an apartment).
Makes sense tho for those who want to live a life w/ some normality (esp, if they are planning to have children).
It appears that Lee Young-ae’s new hubbie (or should I say, Jung Young-ae?) is quite a bit older (55 years old) which would make for an age difference of 17 yrs or so.
Congrats to Lee Young-ae! Wishing her and her new husband plenty of marital bliss!
wow. this caught me by surprise! but congrats to LYA! about the age difference, age is but a number. LYA is marrying the man, not his birthdate.
congratulations !!!!!!!!!!!
congrats to LYA. she is just a graceful actress. ^_^
where is the info about her husband’s age coming from?
@ bd. Yup, looks like the Korean netizens are already onto that. There’s another rumor that this is the SAME GUY who almost married Shim Eun Ha years ago. (and broke up due to fishiness of fluctuating age, lies, weird connections to weapons lobbying etc etc.)
At first it seemed like, aw, really cool Young Ae- ssi. Now it looks a bit odd.
OH WOW! This is shocking! Wish them happiness!
WHAT?!?!?!? Its not Ji Jin Hee?!?!?!?
Congrats to her, wishing her lots and lots of happiness !
I gues I’ll echo everyone here too by sayin WHAT?!!!!!!
But congrats to her!!! Wish her the best of luck in her married life!
OMG!!! Just realized that she’ll be living in the US!!! That’s awesome!!!
It’s nice she married someone not in the entertainment industry. Congrats to her and i wish her a happy marriage =]
OMG OMG OMG…when I heard the news I was like wth…lol. This is just shocking.
LYA your so good at keeping secrets. Ne way congratulations!!!
She’s gonna reside in the states right? We’re gonna miss her =(
Uh-oh, what would Kim Jong Il do? keke…
Grats to her!
Wow, wish her the best!
@ 16 Tha – kekeke – haven’t you heard? he is marrying Uhm Jung-hwa. ^^
Moohan boys will be heartbroken. LOL~ Congrats to her! ^^
I am so happy for her.
I hope her marriage will be filled with happiness and joy. She deserves it.
All the best to the actress who got me addicted to kdramas.
Congratz to Lee Young Ae and her Mr Jung!
Glad she didn’t marry Kim Jong Il..
how did she meet him?? anyone know??
Congrats LYA!!! It was surprising but at her age, she should be.
Hope she’ll have lots of children too. The children will definitely be smart.
@23 paula253 What?!?!? Is that so….where did you get that info?!?!?!? Lee Young Ae and Ji Jin Hee was the epitome of TRUE LOVE for me! I just KNEW they would end up together. I’m a little saddened by all of this….sniff* sniff*
@ #16 & #23,.. rofl… somehow … somewhere.. people are gonna think the jokes were true.. kekekekekee.. You guys are funny… lol…
Ji Jin Hee is already married (with me…! lol..).
Ahh.. the good ol’ days, Jang Geum with Sir Min.
congrats to her.. hope all the best for her and her husband.
her hubby is 54 years old @.@
She was awesome as Lady V. Smart of her to marry quietly. It’s so refreshing. I get turned off by all those posed cheesy wedding albums.
Congratulation lee young ae.
damn man! in the usa! i wish i could attend it! its only 5 hours flight from where i live!! i bet the groom is attending UIUC or uni of chicago or purdue maybe!! ^^ anyways congratz lee young ae-unni!!
@ 29 Tha — “@23 paula253 What?!?!? Is that so….where did you get that info?!?!?!?”
sorry — it was a joke. In “Man Who Can’t Marry,” Ji Jin-Hee’s character marries Uhm Jung-hwa’s character. *** nothing between them in real life *** hehe
I see on Drama Wiki that, in real life, JJH married his long-time gf, Lee Su-yon, in 2004. but of course, Bella Mafia, he can still be yours. enjoy!!
o wow…. she (or more to the point dae jang geum) started my obsession with kdramas… I first watched the shown on cable (azn tv) and then continued watcing all kinds of asian dramas there after!! Good for her (I guess).. maybe I’ll see her here in the U.S… at least I hope she doesn’t stop with the dramas like other married stars have in the past..
Am I the only one that can see her trying to break into American Entertainment?
I mean, I bet she is going to become a citizen of the United States (because she is married and living in the United States) Her English is going to be much better then most because of spending time just living in the United States and able to practice and loose her accent.
To act in a movie/drama in Korea will make her stay away from her Hubbie for months at a time (because more than likely he can’t just leave his job) especially if she has children. If she really loves acting but cannot leave her family for such a long period of time, I really can see her taking small parts in American films.
I love her as an actress and would totally go see whatever movie or drama (american or korean) she is in. I wish her good luck and happiness.
I also read that they dated for TEN yrs…quietly.
crazy. and yeah there is a 17 yr difference.
what? Jang Geum’s married and with a much older man… …. sorry, but I bet he is rich.
She has known him since her like..twenties. no one knows, since there were no official statements.
Well, if it’s true that they’ve known each other for that long and have been dating quietly, then it’s quite a cute love story. I must say it’s quite a feat for any Hallyu stars to keep romances quiet for too long with the netizens keeping tabs on them 24/7. I wish her the best.
Congratulations!! ^__________^
Just wondering why Korean actresses like to marry Korean-American businessmen?
Hello Young ae. Congratulations!
Hope you get back soon. I miss you.
Congratulations and best wishes to Young ae and husband.
whoa, he went to my school. But he’s old so i don’t know anything…
No more acting in just tv dramas I’m guessing nooooo
ohh a good surprise congratulations lee and you will be a good wife
I congratulate her, but she dissapointed me so much.
She is my dad’s cousin, and thus she was like an aunt figure to me. She and my dad were very close when they were young. When we heard about her secret marriage just a few miles away from us (I live in NJ) I was so shocked but not as shocked as my dad. He felt so betrayed that she would just forget him like that when she knew that he lived in the states too. I respect her as an actress, but my respect for her as my aunt is totally gone. I guess its just easy to remember those that loved and cared for you when you’re in show business.. Congrats to her though.
