  1. TGIF, and thanks for the wonderful You’re Beautiful recaps!

  2. I’m sick again. I feel like I’ve been sick on and off all of Oct and Nov.

On the plus side looking forward to all the family gatherings around Thanksgiving. 3 days of marathon eating will add 5 lbs and then its christmas which will add another 5 lbs and than new years will bring some resolution to undo what the previous months did.

  3. I have a chem test in a few minutes, of which none of what I need to know is sticking in my brain. Why?

I had youtube up on my computer…and was playing the playlist of mine that has just BigBang, Taeyang solo, and TOP solo videos. One of which has Taeyang taking his shirt off. I wonder why I couldn’t retain anything…every single time I looked up Taeyang or TOP was on the screen. Granted it was mostly for Taeyang. TOP just isn’t as hot in my opinion (though he is still hot).

I can’t wait for Assorted Gems this weekend and I am so behind on LY1000x but that is okay.

  4. Happy Friday, JB!

Red Cliff = we watched this movie last night and I have to say, it is a very, very good movie. The non-Asia version of the movie (cut down by 90 mins from the 2 part Asia version), lacks a bit of heart, but still better than 98% of the movies that are out there.

Takeshi Kaneshiro and Tony Leung…. wow.

Are there k movie/drama actors who have similar ‘presence’ (however the word is defined) as these two?

I wish they could do a cross-over or two.

  5. OK PPL! I need recommendations!

What ringtone are you currently using? I’m in desperate need of a change! Help please! :)

  6. Happy TGIF!!!

New Moon is here and can’t wait to watch it!!

And I don’t want YAB to end!!!!

  7. have a nice weekend everybody ☺ !! I hope I can start watching k-drama after christmas…bcause a little busy right now…and if I start to watch right now, you will hardly get me off my TV…yay…I coudn’t stop till final episode, that’s why I never choose long drama…but what should I do, I really fall in love with hyun-soo jung-in love story…hhhh…very poisonous :)

  8. Really enjoyed YAB recap. Dread to see it end. Hope to see more of YAB cast. A sequel? Concert? Thank you.

  9. @samsooki: OMG, I LOVE TONY LEUNG! I don’t care that he could be my father, but is he an amazing, diverse, charismatic, deep, artistic actor or what?! And Takeshi – *sigh* – enough said. lols. Did you watch both parts in one go? Must have been great like that – I had to wait a year for the second part, sorta ruined the flow somewhat, but still good nonetheless. And of course, I’ve liked Vicki since her “Princess Returning Pearls” days, so this movie was a must watch for me.

@pabo ceo reom: How about some Smile You ringtones? ^_^ Available at Cococrust Repository.

Gosh, so hyper today. Can’t seem to wait for SY this weekend, it’s going to be wonderful. *sigh* *happy grin* Smilers, where are you guys?

  10. @ Kgrl,

I’m with you. Saturday cannot come fast enough! I’m not even TGIF because I’m just waiting for Sat/Sun! :)

  11. @ 9 and 10

lol…yay Smile, You fans unite! It’s addictive I know. ;)

  12. Good morning and happy friday my fellow OTers! :P

TGIF indeedy! Work has been exhausting and draining, but thankfully I had my 2 eps of YB as well as Autumn’s Concerto to keep me happy. Gotta wait for more IRIS eps before I can start watching again. Thank you so much to JB for your wonderful recaps – dono how I would get through YB without you.

Today is the Tree Lighting at Fashion Island so i’m excited – it’ll be a nice low-key kinda weekend – with the exception of the “twihards” that i will most definitely and unfortunately encounter tonight at New Moon.

    gah. i need coffee. stat.

  13. @4 samsooki: hey u mean my-eyes-can-talk Tony Leung! mygosh, i lurrrrve him!!!! *gushes* do watch his other movies like In The Mood For Love, Chungking Express, Infernal Affairs, etc. i kid u not, his eyes can REALLY talk!

aww, n not to mention MY Takeshi Kaneshiro!!! *faints* he’s like my ultimate prince charming. *fangirl unleashed* haha. =p do watch his jap movies if u’ve a chance. more eye candy n his eyes!!! mygosh. *faints again*

funny, u asked if there’s any k-actor who has a similar “presence”… i immediately thought of Cha Seung Won in Cityhall. his eyes spoke volumes there! to me, at least. *hiak-hiak* ;)

  14. @9, Kgrl -

No, it was on cable… HDNet… so I saw the subtiled (very good subtitles!) single 2.5 hour version, not the two-part 4 hour Asia version, which I want to see now.

    @13 blue_star -

Tony Leung and Takeshi Kaneshiro…. gotta give considerable props to both, not just for their venerable body of work, but because they are very good, still, right now.

If you have a chance, Red Cliff is a great movie to watch.

    – Plenty of action (think…. Lord of the Rings, Two Towers-ish, on that kind of scale, with huge armies battling each other)

    – Plenty of real, honest to goodness acting (can’t say enough about both Tony and Taekshi…, and the newcomer who played the wife of Tony Leung’s character… it was her first film ever and she was brilliant)

    – Gorgeous costumes, period pieces, cinematography was off-the-charts, certain parts of China are definitely among the most beautiful places on earth…

    – Happy-ish ending?

to quote a few dramabeans denizens, and to use current parlance, I lurved it.

  15. I was very excited for the Twilight movie last year, my friends and I even camped out at our local cinema to catch the midnight showing. But after finishing all the books, it seems that New Moon is nothing compared to Twilight in terms of story and characters. It seems that Myer just dragged the story out so painfully just to keep the whole series long, plus New Moon seems like an excuse to root for Jacob because Edward – - – -major spoiler – - – - !)

Well I am gong to watch New Moon still though, but probably next week when I am not busy anymore with pre Thanksgiving homework.

Now to all the people who live in America, HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
WHAT ARE YOU THANKFUL FOR THIS YEAR?

Of course I am thankful for my family and friends with their love and good health. I am thankful I have a good job. Lastly…

Thank the heavens for YAB!!!! It is my dose of happiness every day. Although YAB is on its final week, I am still grateful for knowing this drama. It has given me such pleasure and excitement this past 2 months watching it, sharing our thoughts with fellow fans. As someone has posted on soompi, I don’t know who it is but kudos to that person!

    HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

  16. I heard/read a lot about Red Cliff 1 & 2, and received a DVD copy(Part 1) from my dad, but have not yet watched it. My dad said is very good. He even went to the theatre with my mom to watch Part 2 as well. My mom said the movie is too violent and the girl is not pretty. My dad said the lead actress is very pretty!!

  17. ok people, i need some recommendations =)

are there any dramas or movies in which the main girl is shy/quiet/secretive but still really sweet and kind? i’m sick of watching dramas where the main character is ‘fiesty’ and loud, she just gets on my nerves nowadays

help please! i am in serious good drama withdrawl

  18. Red Cliff I and II – awesome movies! I liked RCII a little more because the naval battle was just jawdroppingly spectacular. I forced my husband and both of my sons to watch them with me (first time for them, like the 5th time for me, LOL). They usually flat-out refuse to watch anything with subtitles but both of these movies got a thumbs up afterward.

Figures we’d have a big Takeshi Kaneshiro discussion just days after I renounced my claim to him. :-D And Tony Leung…I don’t know who could compare to him, really. The man is a god. I could watch him talk to inanimate objects for hours.

  19. Anybody know whatever happened to the last Triple recaps? Has is officially been dropped?

  20. i super love ‘you’re beautiful’..i think tae kyung is super handsome..i really appreciate your recaps and song for the episode, thank you so much..=D

  21. @16 Agent Darwin -

There are two actresses who stood out in this movie –

Zhao Wei, who plays the tomboy-ish battle-tested princess, and
Lin Chi-ling, who plays Tony Leung’s fiercely loyal, intelligent and elegant wife.

    This is Zhao Wei: http://www.cinaoggi.it/cinema/filmografie/vicki-zhao-wei.jpg

This is Lin Chi-Ling (in her Red Cliff role): http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2007-09/28/xin_21209042816494682576227.jpg

    Both are very beautiful, imo.

  22. @ samsooki

Now you got me curious about Red Cliff. See, I’ve been avoiding the movie (but know I must watch with hubby, it’s his cut of tea) for the following reasons, and some of which appear to be in direct contrast to your review (and I trust your review – I’m explain why below):

    1. I read the source material – and apparently John Woo took many, many liberties with the facts as chronicled – I’m becoming more okay with this, just coming to realized that loosely based on the Record of the Three Kingdoms is fine by me. JW admits it, so I’m cool with that.

    2. Tony Leung – I love Tony with a twenty year commitment, so it’s not his acting I’m concerned with – I’ve heard that he doesn’t have the stature, height, or presence physically to essay the character. This doesn’t bother me as well – hey, there are smaller generals in this world that win wars.

    3. Lin Chi-ling – okay, this was the dealkiller for me – she plays TL’s wife, this is her first acting gig – and every single Chinese newspapers and reviewer have rounding panned her acting and, worse, her speaking! She has a really soft, girlish, cutesy voice, and you can imagine what that’s like in this type of movie. The backlash was so bad, the production DUBBED her voice for the second movie, which almost never happens. So, I’m thinking you got the completely dubbed version of her, so it sounds fine. But I have to say I’m still skeptical – because I’ve seen LCL everywhere – she is Taiwan’s #1 supermodel – so if you had told me that Ang Lee cast Gisele Bundchen in the role of Gertrude for his remake of Hamlet, the general reaction would be the same here. However, I trust your review – so I’m off to find Red Cliff to watch over Thanksgiving with the family. Oh, and I love Zhao Wei – she’s the perfect Chuong Yao heroine, peppy and adorable.

    Thanks for the review, samsooki.

I got my YB OST in the mail – hmmmm, cradling to my chest in contentment.

  23. @17 Layla –

are there any dramas or movies in which the main girl is shy/quiet/secretive but still really sweet and kind? i’m sick of watching dramas where the main character is ‘fiesty’ and loud, she just gets on my nerves nowadays

    Lessee…

    1. Perhaps Eugene, in her role as the hardworking and honest daughter of an inn-keeper, who has to try to win back the heart of a man who loved her but lost his memory (twice) in Save The Last Dance For Me, in which my KJH (yessss MY Kang Ji Hwan) plays a minor role of a kindly doctor who doesn’t end up getting the girl, in favor of the main girl (Eugene)’s love interest? Aside from the… umm, cliche amnesia events, this is actually quite enjoyable to watch.

    2. Perhaps Choi Jin Shil, in The Last Scandal of my Life, in her very last role, as a single mother, who can barely support herself and her daughter, who finds herself in a secretive relationship with her first love, who happens to have become a major movie star. Highly recommended, well-done by Choi Jin Shil to balance comedic elements and elements of the heart.

    3. Perhaps Chae-Rim, in the very funny and very poignant Dal Ja’s Spring, where she plays the role of a producer of a home shopping network show, who finds herself struggling to balance her career, her friends, her workmates, her mother, her grandmother, and the secret-ish love of her life who happens to be a bit younger than she is…. If there was a drama to be watched, to understand, perhaps, a little bit more about the psyche of the contemporary Korean female, perhaps this is the drama to watch.

    4. Perhaps Kim Min Jung, in New Heart, where is plays a quiet doctor who has as her love, the impish doctor Ji Sung? This is a slightly different kind of drama, where there are no love triangles, fewer cliches than normal, perhaps, but after about 8 or 9 episodes, this drama really starts to take off once the Kim Min Jung / Ji Sung relationship gets going…

    5. Perhaps Sung Yuri, in Snow Queen, where she plays a lonely rich girl who has been sick and in and out of hospitals all her life, who has loved but one person, and who finds that person again, destroyed by a fateful day, and this drama tries to explore the question of whether the love of ill fated persons are stronger than the most difficult of obstacles that people must face. Even more than HGD, I think this really draws out Sung Yuri’s acting ability, and her and my Binnie do a fantastic job together. Well done.

    :D

  24. Ohhh Tony Leung I just rewatched “In the mood for love” the other night because it was on TV. I have to say I love it more this time around than when I saw it at the movie theater oh so long ago. He is such an eye actor and I love the way he smokes.

Tony Leung and Takeshi Kaneshiro always makes me think of Chungking Express. I loved that movie to bits as a teen. Faye Wong was my early Im Soo Jung. If I can say I’ve ever had a girl crush it is Faye Wong and Im soo Jung

  25. I’m glad YAB is nearly over in the beginning it renewed my faith in fluffy Kdramas but as time’s gone on Mi Nam’s stupidity and constant need to be rescued has became more and more annoying.

Is there a drama out there where the naive accident prone female lead smartens up and is able to rescue herself? Anything?

Maybe RL is preventing me from finding this character type charming, I didn’t mind it when I first started watching dramas.

  26. I’m bringing over a topic from previous Open Thread

    @ Langdon & Samsookie
Langdon: Let me ask y’all something – in anticipation of Chuno I thought I should acquaint myself with Jang Hyuk. Recommendations? I watched the first ep of Thank You on Dramafever tonight (didn’t shed a single tear…hmm).

“Samsookie: Well, “Thank You” is one of those, you gotta get into the drama to care about it, dramas. Melodramas are a burden to watch sometimes, you are just waiting around to cry, lol.”

I second Thank You. One of my top 10 favorite kdramas of all time and one of Jang Hyuk’s better works since his acting isn’t always great. It sounds depressing and takes some commitment but I really loved it and I don’t believe I shed a single tear either but I loved it.

  27. @samsooki: Have you seen Lust, Caution with Tony? I have yet to see it, but I’ve promised myself that this holiday season, I’ve MUST watch it. He’s my favorite actor, along with Johnny Depp, and I have to pay homage to my idols.
I think LCL’s portrayal was propped up by her role and the directing, but she still did a good job in her first movie. As for Vicki, she was my first passionate drama character love, so I’ve been loyal to this first love for about a decade. I think she’s more beautiful in personality than her looks.

@Layla: Hmm, that’s a hard one. Feisty, sassy female leads have been hugely popular the last several years. The only good ones that are coming to mind are mostly sageuks, Return of Iljimae, New Heart, or Chinese period dramas that showcase demure (soft) but extremely strong-will females. Japanese dramas have many sweet, soft-spoken female leads as it’s culturally more accessible, i.e. Absolute Boyfriend, Liar Game, even Hana Yori Dango was much more muted than the K version. I’m personally watching Liar Game 2, though not for the female lead, but for the plotline.

@Ockoala: LCL actually did her role justice. But I would suggest watching both parts in one go – more transitional that way. And Vicki is great in here as the sassy, resilient, comical female heroine. I’m excited for Vicki’s new Mulan movie – I hope it’s worth the hype. I know they had to film in the desert and harsh conditions for 3 months.

@25 Siren: Yes, emotionally weak female leads bother me as well, unless the acting and circumstances redeem the character for me. Honestly, most of the female leads out there today are pretty independent. Try “My Queen” – it’s funny and pretty smart. The lead actress got Best Actress Award for this role.

  28. 17 – I’m watching “Don’t Hesitate” right now and it’s right up your alley. The main girl is super sweet to the point where she’ll donated a part of her liver to her boyfriend~ and that’s not even the end of it…..it’s crazy.

I don’t know if you’ve ever watched Jdramas, but they have characters like that so I’ll recommend those since I’m sure alot of others will recommend Korean dramas here: Mei-chan no Shitju, Buzzer Beat, Innocent Love, Nobuta wo Produce.

Also recommend TWdrama – Fated to Love You (this one actually fits your description for female lead well~)

  29. Hi ,Have a nice weekend everyone!
I’ve just finished YAB 14 and feel quite nervous. I hope Hong sister can give us an unpredictable but still funny happy ending (I can’t bear a sad or even an open one-even worse)! YAB fighting!

  30. TGIF!!!!
oops…it’s already saturday (2 in the morning) here.

finally finished watching YAB ep 14 subbed. Really anticipating next weeks finale.

can’t stop playing bejeweled. Can anyone recommend how to stop myself?

  31. Happy Friday Everyone:-)

To all the ppl who kept talking about Autumn’s Concerto in the OT’s – Thank you:-)

Started watching Autumn’s Concerto (My first TW drama) to sort of pull my self out of the YB pit.Unfortunately it has become a case of ‘from the frying pan and into the fire’ situation. It’s a drama filled with cliches but has managed to hook me in. I guess Vanness has something to do with it.The dialogues are so beautiful without being too cheesy. Also the second guy lead is so likable in this one. Most of the second leads are stuck in such boring, monotonous roles. This guy seems to be diff in way that I still can’t still put my finger on it.Looking forward to the next episode. The soundtrack is also amazing.Love the background music. All for love by Victor W is just too awesome.

Ah how can I post without mentioning YB.I wonder how they’re going to tie up all the loose ends and hopefully give us a happy ending without seeming too rushed within the next 2 episodes.I would be so disappointed if the drama ended on a lacklustre note.So keeping my fingers crossed.I wish Yong-hwa would use his eyes more often to convey emotions.Thats why he really sparkled in the ’shoe scene’.But compared to Jang Geun-seok and Lee Hong-ki , he still seems lacking in something in the acting department.Guess maybe since it’s his first acting role?

I think you cross the thin line between being a casual viewer and a drama addict when you start to learn actors/actresses’ names that you can barely pronounce, much less remember. Then you start watching subbed interviews and strain your ears to catch the correct pronunciation of their names.

Anyways I’m ever so grateful to You tube for opening doors into worlds I never knew existed.Ignorance is not always bliss:-)

Hmmm think I’ll try Hana Yori Dango next.

  32. javabeans,

i just have to say, you made my tiring day bearable with your ep 14 recap of yab. you’re a wonder. just this afternoon, i was sitting in a restaurant with my boss, a feminist…we’re in for a stay in 2 day consultation for a research. while she was having lunch, i logged in and read your recaps. it was hilarious. i was there across the table, reading from my laptop. looking at my boss expectantly and trying to pretend that i was listening to her when all the while, i was reading your recaps. it was so difficult to keep myself from squeeling or from smiling like an idiot.

we then had a 12 hour consultation session, but i survived. just because I had a dose of my fave drug. God bless you. you’re making a lot of difference in your fans’ lives.

*first post in the open thread, have been a lurker for so long. nice meeting everybody.:D

  33. @Siren – Thank goodness someone else brought that up too! I mean seriously, I was raised in a happy bubble too, but MN acts like she was raised in Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood…and even then they must’ve restricted to her to the land of MakeBelieve. Wake up and smell the beans girl! *aiyeesh* Thank goodness for my dose of Jung-In (from Smile, You). Returns my faith in girls. if you’d enjoy a girl that’s frank and isn’t afraid to speak her mind, but still sweet/cute in a non-obnoxious way, I’d *highly* recommend that series.

i have a love-hate relationship for Fated to Love You. There were definitely sweet scenes that I like, but overall TDramas have never given me that “ah” feeling of satisfaction when watching them.

Anyone here watching the American comedy show Glee? I heart it *so* much…satisfies the inner choir-geek in me. ^^ I knew it’d be fun, but I never expected it to pull a heartstring in me too. The last ep (when the father stood up for his son) reduced me to a blubbering mess.

  34. You’re Beautiful ending next week! Argh, I really wanted there to be a extension!!

But on a happy note I watched New Moon today at midnight! Everyobe at the theater clapped when Jacob took off his shirt :) & the ending was beautiful! I’m definitly going to wwtch it again soon & might become one of my favorites.

  35. Hellooo~ Happy Friday! :D

My Friday’s are bittersweet since I have class Saturdays. Bummer. I know.
Anyway, I’ve been looking for something to get me through my YB withdrawal period and was hoping for suggestions?

Looks like Ana’s starting Autumn’s Concerto and although my first Asian drama was a TW drama (Meteor Shower) I’m still a little hesitant. My mom still watches a lot of TW dramas and when I watch with her, they just don’t catch my interest like the used to. I feel like their too cliched and a bit dragging. But I’m keeping my mind open, anyone else besides Vaness care to change my mind? I hear he has a lot of uhm.. convincing *cough-shower-cough* scenes..

  36. @ nycgrl and samsooki

Thanks guys! I’m a world champion cryer, so that doesn’t bother me. I was just surprised that I didn’t even get a lump in my throat when I fully expected to be a wreck (death of major character’s first love, child with AIDS, all the ingredients were there, but nothing). Could have just been my crappy mood yesterday too; I wasn’t feeling sympathetic towards much of anything. ;-)

    @27, Kgrl

Lust, Caution is such a fantastic film but I felt unbelievably depressed after I watched it. Of course, this is kind of the point, since it endeavors to show just how low human beings can sink, for whatever reason; patriotism, love, desire, power…or lust. People who think this movie is only about sex are so missing the point, and it drives me insane. If there’s a gun pointed at your head then you know you’re being threatened…but when someone offers up no defense, no resistance, how would you recognize that that act is in itself the strongest weapon that could be used against you? What happens when you’re faced with mercy?

I have such a love/hate relationship with Ang Lee films because it takes me weeks to get over them. I’ve seen Brokeback Mountain only once all the way through (at the theater, where I embarrassed my friends by sobbing uncontrollably during the movie, after the movie, all the way to the car, LOL). I’ve tried to watch it a couple of times since and I just cannot do it. I’ve pretty much come the to conclusion that Ang Lee hates me.

On a much happier note, after Ninja Assassin, THIS is the movie I’m most dying to see:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qX1SSiFWF-s

  37. I’m so glad it’s friday. Just downloaded the subs for episode 20 of LY1000x and I am planning on watching Red Cliff (I have been in love with Takeshi Kaneshiro since he was in The Returner) at some point this weekend if I can find the full version online somewhere.

@17 (Layla): Try Assorted Gems. The subs are only on viikii or you could download the episode and the viikii subs from aja-aja.

  38. Long time no see, guys! It’s been forever since I’ve been in an open thread, and I kind missed them..

I just pulled an all-nighter on the first of my three epic research papers (the next two are due next week and the week after), so I’m all tired and unwilling to read all of the above posts. Forgive me. x.x

    .

Has anyone ever tried online dating? My friend and I signed up for a site as a joke two weeks ago, but she’s already had three dates (and many more offers), and I have one date tomorrow night and another over Thanksgiving break (although I’m still not sure if it’s a date or just a friendly meet-up) with two really awesome guys. I’m super super excited, and I’m having trouble thinking about anything else today. :D

  39. Thanks Samsooki for the link. I know the first girl, she used to act in some sort of princess role. Few years back when I used to visit China alot, I saw her almost every night on TV. No matter where you are in China, you will see her face!! I found her very noisy when she talks. So normally, I will mute the TV and just watch her silently. That’s more bearable!! ^_______^

  40. I just have to say, I am so inlove with Smile, You and most of all the actors and the characters they portray. I can’t wait for the next episodes, I have been watching episode 15 and 16 over and over just to try and get by until the weekend. Jung In so so adorable and knows what she wants and Hang Soo is such a cutie!!

@xiaoSxin – Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! This year, I am very thankful for having my family besides me even though we are in such a tough financial situation right now. Life is throwing bolders my way but I have my family to lean on when I do get rolled over.

  41. Tony Leung and Zhao Wei? I’m gonna have to put Red Cliff on my watch list.

I have such a girl crush on Zhao Wei haha.

  42. Did anyone watch FlashForward lastnight? Was that Takeuchi Yuko? I think her last jdrama was Bara no nai Hanaya (the blind girl). Looks like she’ll be returning in the next FF episode.

  43. Having been reminded of Kimi wa Petto by your posting the other day, I went on a Matsumoto Jun watching marathon – well, with a small offshoot into Hana Kimi to show that to a teenager. (not to worry folks, I am stuck in front of the computer working on finishing something necessary but incredibly tedious).

I ended up watching Smile yesterday, which I had not watched before due to the general subject matter. Woosh! That boy can ACT! Still not my favorite kind of series, but wow.

I’m going to third Thank You. This was what I was watching when my original source of addiction went away, the late lamented AZN network. I had been sucked in quietly, and was just at the point where I couldn’t just leave it and had to track it down online.

BTW, Verizon FIOS is supposed to have SBS added sometime this month to their Korea package. I happen to know that currently they are showing the show that came in the YB timeslot right before YB came on. I keep checking the channel to see if it’s switched over to SBS, hoping that if YB comes on I’ll get to watch again. 8-)
    @yenchan

GLEE is the only US show I actually watch, I watch a couple of BBC shows, but that’s about it. In fact, I keep telling people that the only 2 shows to have made me fall over laughing in a long time were GLEE (the football team dancing scene) and YB.

  44. @38 Kender –

Hi Kender! LTNS!!! (i’m not sure if that’s a real acronym, but it stands for long time no see – if i am the first to use it, i hereby trademark it (Samsooki TM)).

Make sure you have a pre-arranged cell phone call at two specific times (one about 10 mins into the date, and one about an hour in).

If the date is going well, then you can either ignore the cell phone call or quickly hang up.

If the date is going poorly, then start acting really surprised and say something like,

    “OMG, really?!?”

Then, to your date – “I have to go. family emergency. Sorry! rain check!”

    *poof* you are free.

  45. Happy Thanksgiving to all you americans readers. I was going to cross the border to do some shopping because you have fantastics sales, but my credit card debt made me think twice. So I’ll have to settle for just attending a local japanese christmas craft and bake sale to satisfy my shopping cravings.

Anyone have the City Hall dvd? My local supplier can’t seem to get it yet. I was hoping it would tide me over until the current crop of favourite kdramas would be available.

So instead, I am delving into the cyberpunk world and discovering some really cool movies. Also rewatching stuff like Blade Runner and the Matrix trilogy. I’ve been having some really weird dreams lately.

  46. So many fun groups exist on OT (with plenty of overlap and no entrance requirements):

    1. ICOMYM
    2. City Hallers
    3. Smilers
    4. Chunojammas
    5. Islanders (and its much more ajumma-ish subset – Team Park Kyu!)
    6. YB Addicts
    7. TWCM or “Those who call “mine” (and its progenitor – KHWIM (“Kang Ji-hwan is Mine”)
    8. Drool Club
    9. Swoon Team
    10. BRA or “Baby Rain’s aunties”

    Did I miss any?

    @ all4movies

You can watch City Hall with english subs at Dramafever.com (it just got added recently). Enjoy the CH journey.

    @ the issue of crying

I NEVER cry – sorry, the sentimental one is ockoala hubby, though he doesn’t cry in movies either – most k-drama melodramas, I laugh and let out a sigh of relief at the pivotal cry-inducing scenes (Winter Sonata, AIMH, Stairway to Heaven, Beautiful Days, any of the oldies – laughed through them).

Only drama I can recall that made me cry is – Tamra the Island. City Hall – I shed tears of joy (metaphorically).

  47. @ langdon813

It takes a lot for me to cry. The nearest I get is I feel a little teary but no floodgates. My sister on the other hand will cry at a drop of a dime watching even commercials. She cried watching the “English Patient” at the movie theater and continued to cry in the car and back at home and she was so upset I didn’t think it was that touching enough to cry. I told her later I actually disliked the movie except for Juliet Binoche’s performance which pissed her off even more.

“Love, Lust, Caution” was one of those films I dreaded watching kind of like “Schindler’s list”. You feel as a movie lover and because of its subject matter you need to watch it but the subject matter is so heavy it feels more like an obligation. That said I wound up enjoying the cinematography, story and acting and I also learned a lot about Chinese political history and culture but I probably can’t watch it again. Also anyone who watches this movie for the sex scenes–I don’t know what to say since to me it was more brutal than anything sexy.

  48. @44 samsooki – *waves* Hallo~~~ Hahaha I know. I did that for my roommate on all three of her dates, so now it’s her turn to do it with me.

@46 ockoala – Team Park Gyu is ajumma-ish?? But..but..he’s so BEAUTIFUL and PERFECT. *Q* And last I checked, I was nowhere near ajumma status. :P

And now I should get ready to go to my Chinese class. We’re having a food party tonight, so I can’t skip class even for sleep if I want to be able to get free Chinese food tonight. :P Mmmmm, baozi..

  49. Shhhh…
I actually brought my laptop at work and hiding in the back office ( don’t laugh @reluctantbutaddicted ;) I can’t wait til late tonight to watch the subbed version of YB epi 14, so…here I am.

Happy OT Friday everyone…I think this is the first time I’m not spending 2 hours reading the OT and getting on the posting when it’s in the 100’s or sometime the 200’s…and before I forget, I have to say this to everyone:

Since it is near the season of giving thanks, I want to say how much I appreciate my new “friends and family” here in Dramabeans:
    * JB what and how can I thank you enough? You are God sent. Your site is well written, intelligent and warm & fuzzy the same time. I can’t even begin to show how appreciative of all for your hard work (recaps and discussions). If you haven’t heard it today, a big THANK YOU from one of your humbled readers/loyal followers.

    *Samsooki
I know we barely know each other (it’s only been 3 months for me), but I’m glad to meet you (and your family) here. I respect your witty opinions and suggestions and of course the (friendly)bantering that go on here. Like others who have written earlier, I often look for your opinions/analysis before I “jump” into certain drama/movie….(I adore Tony Leung even before he was a “Somebody”…he just came out of TVB training classes)

***all my dearest “girlfriends” here in OT ( @langdon813, @ockoala,@ hjkomo (my special Cal sis),@ lovenyc52,@simplesim (my new kdrama script discussion partner), @reluctantbutaddicted and many, many more…
I love all you guys…I love how we all understand each other so well even though we are strangers to each other( all female professionals who are still trying really hard to balance EVERYTHING)….I love how we all have “the same hubby”, and how we share our own little ways to deal with our dear spouses, and how THEY deal with our (quirky) drama addiction. I especially want to thank @langdon813 for starting ICOMYM, so that I can “justify” why and how I feel about my (secret) Korean Manrem ;)

I could go on, but I started to feel like I’m giving the acceptance speech for my Oscar award….I can see the “guy” waving his hands to tell me to stop….so have a happy Friday and if not later tonight, I will see you guys next week (double shift next week plus Thanksgiving dinner at my house…I even have to wait til NEXT Sun to see YB finale) :(

  50. @47 nycgrl – You should try watching ‘Hotel Rwanda’.I think that movie has the power to make anyone cry. It made a ’stony-hearted’ person like me so teary eyed that I couldn’t even pretend that I had gotten a sudden cold.

  51. @Layla, there are a couple of taiwanese dramas like that; Mars, and ToGetHer. most of the time plucky and dumb seems to be the in thing for asian dramas, especially kdramas (why oh why do they always equate innocent and nieve with stupidity and thickheadedness?).
oh, and maybe the kdrama someday. its lead doesn’t believe in love and shes quiet and somewhat withdrawn.
hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

  52. @ Kender

I don’t believe I delurked when you were chatting away in OT – so I can’t welcome you back, since you’re a sunbei – but it’s nice to hear your voice again!

Have a fun and safe date tonight – love the fact that you’re uber-excited, you should be! The pressure around dating these days obscures the fact that dating exists because it should bring the participants joy. And samsooki’s exit strategy is well-devised, be prepared to follow it at the first sign of trouble/boredom.

As for “Team Park Gyu is ajumma-ish?? But..but..he’s so BEAUTIFUL and PERFECT. *Q* And last I checked, I was nowhere near ajumma status.”

You’re absolutely right, Team Park Kyu! members are not ajummas or necessarily ajumma-ish – I know lovenyc52 is an active member and she’s a total baby – it was more the collective ajumma-like squealing that occurs whenever Team Park Kyu! is mentioned or there is a shout-out, or a new member joins (like me – I was totally late to the party). The Team Park Kyu! vibe, to me, is less fangirling but rather that we recognize Park Kyu (and Im Joo-hwan’s impeccable portrayal) for all his beautiful perfection (borrowing your adjectives) because we know how rare that is.

  53. @ 42:
Ohhhh is that why that girl looked so familiar? I watched half of that jdrama but never ended up finishing it.

  54. @ Ana -”You should try watching ‘Hotel Rwanda’.I think that movie has the power to make anyone cry. It made a ’stony-hearted’ person like me so teary eyed that I couldn’t even pretend that I had gotten a sudden cold.”

That is on my watch list but due to the subject matter will take some ammunition of courage before I undertake it. Also I always love Don Cheadle’s performances so I know I have to watch it. It took me 3 years after Schindler’s list came out before I watched it and I couldn’t sleep for a week.

    @ all4movies -

“So instead, I am delving into the cyberpunk world and discovering some really cool movies. Also rewatching stuff like Blade Runner and the Matrix trilogy. I’ve been having some really weird dreams lately.”

Love both Blade Runner and Matrix but Blade Runner is one of my all time favorite films. Its one of those films no matter how many times its on TV I’ll drop everything and watch it. I just love Rutger Hauer. He is such a hotass in that film. I wrote a college paper on blade runner for my sci-fi class. How geeky can I get?

  55. Since somebody mentioned ringtones, here are a few I made for You’re Beautiful:

Jang Geun-seok’s version of Without Words: http://www.mediafire.com/?wyzjjd42wzn
ANJELL version of Promise, chorus: http://www.mediafire.com/?xgwrjmmzzb1
ANJELL version of Promise, verse: http://www.mediafire.com/?iwgyzkljemm

And here are a few that I’d made for myself:

Story of a Man theme song: http://www.mediafire.com/?yj2i05krnht
    Return of Iljimae theme: http://www.mediafire.com/?dzwqndbogyv
Return of Iljimae plum blossom theme: http://www.mediafire.com/?cyxngyz0bjt

    Enjoy! ^_^v

  56. Friday! Is it weird that I am having my second Christmas party tonight? Each year people around me try to beat the holiday rush earlier and earlier. If it keep going like like I’ll have having Christmas parties in October!

Someone last week in OT mentioned Bold beautiful woman (TW drama, actually I think is China but in TW section if you are looking for it in Viikii) I checked it out and it was not too bad. It had the girl pretending to be a guy and the plot moved fairly quickly.

I have also been watching Hero (J-drama with Takuya Kimura). That man is just so addicting… the smile gets me every time. It helps that I feel like I can go all gooey eyed with Kimura without feeling like a pervert. But maybe fangirl-ism should have no age boundaries. :-)

  57. #33, I watch Glee too. It’s so awesome. I love Kurt… :-) .

Right now, I’m watching Atashinchi no Danshi.. Just wanna say.. OMG.. I found it so darn freakin’ boring. Fell asleep on epi. 1. I’m more to Korean dramas, but wanna try some jdrama too (Nodame Cantabile is my favorite jdrama so far). I guess this time I picked the wrong one. However…. everytime I start watching a drama, no matter how bad it is, I always finish it.
That shows how much I love to watch Asian dramas :-)

  58. @ Kender – I’ve had friends who’ve met through general interest sites *coughsoompicough* and then progressed to meeting offline and dating in RL, but not through an official dating website or anything. All the stories about eHarmony and such makes me feel like the only guys there are creepers. 0_o You’ll have to keep us updated as how the date goes. :) Sadly, I think kdramas are starting to ruin me for any potential mates. No Hyung-taes or Sung-Joos on the horizon for me… *sniffles*

    Re: ringtones…how is everyone getting them on their cellphones? Can I plug it up to my phone and “download” the ringtone file onto my cellphone? Sorry – I’m a little behind on these high-tech things. >__<;

  59. The LSAT is in a few weeks, and it makes me want to crawl into a corner and cry. T_T I’ve been using dramabeans’ recaps as a form of escape but the growing anxiety gives me pangs of guilt when I’m not using every minute to study. AHHH!

haha anyways, CHEERS to the weekend. and thank you JB for keeping me sane!

  60. samsooki, k-girl, yfangirl, reese, nana and anyone else who gave recommendations, thank you! I’ve watched a couple of the dramas you’re talking about, and i’ll definitely check out the others

the suggestion of snow queen also brought to mind something. Whether its in this drama, or any, do you really believe that a character can be redeemed? Some of the time, yeah, I think that I do and that makes me love them even more because i know the journey they have taken to reach that point. But other times, I find it hard to forget how cruel or mean they had acted before and I never really forgive them. Even in snow queen, Bo Ra acts very mean-spiritedly, and even viciously, that my dislike of her kind of never really went away.

What do you guys think? Is there times when you’re unable to forgive and forget the cruel things a character has done in the past?

  61. @55 jb,

Hehe! That’s so awesome! I would use them but I would be a bit embarrassed getting calls.

In a conference with other attorneys and then my bberry starts buzzing “I will prooooomise you….” bzzzzz

*red-faced and fumbling with the phone… gaaaaaaaah gotta shut this thing off….*

    :D

  62. wow i’m gone from OT to actually work *gasp!* and i come back to a whole bunch of topics!! let’s see how fast i can type before my boss gets back from lunch.. im skippin out on the company lunch right now so i believe i am safe from prying eyes haha.

@35 Cathie – I only watched part of MG and couldn’t stand it. I was very hesitant to start Autumn’s Concerto because I am not a big Vanness fan, but my friends in OT were praising it quite a bit so i thought, heck why not? And i LOVE it. Yes, it has the typical cliches but it is done in such a way where i don’t feel it drags at all. And it’s short at a planned 13 episodes so I think we’re safe from it dragging later on.

@38 Kender – have fun on your date tonight!! I know many people who met through dating sites and are now very happily married with kids. They keep trying to get me to do it, but I still haven’t gotten the nerve to sign up hehe.

@46 ockoala – wow. i’m in almost all those groups.. Haven’t gotten into Smile or Chuno yet, but I’m sure it’ll come in time. TWCM – haha!! i think i only have called 2 as MINE!! – Mark Chao and TOP hehe.. And yes, I am totally and utterly Team Park Kyu.. And I’ll be 29 in a few months.. is that baby status? hehe.

@58 yenchan – i think your phone needs to come with some kind of program that allows file transfers from your computer to your phone. My crackberry has that and all i have to do is copy the file from my computer to my phone while it’s plugged in and voila! new ringtones :)

  63. @49 Cingdoc : you included me in your list of DB OT friends! Way to make me cry in the train!!! Wah, that was a beautiful post–this is indeed a special place. I’ve strong-armed a few friends into watching Kdrama, but they are in no way willing to analyze and (I think this is correct usage ??) *squee* to the extent I require. I need you guys for that! Thank goodness I found you. Nice to have all the subset groups to join, too : esp the conscience-calming ICOMYN club (with accompanying mantra: “he’s legal, he’s legal, he’s legal”).

  64. @layla -

Even in snow queen, Bo Ra acts very mean-spiritedly, and even viciously, that my dislike of her kind of never really went away

It’s just my opinion, but I think that BoRa having moments where she is cruel or vicious is in line with her character. Look at what happened to her:

Being sick all of her life, forced again and again, countless times to be in the hospital, poked with needles, operations, examined like a piece of meat by strange doctors, having no privacy, always being afraid and alone all the time, completely losing out on a childhood. Abandoned by her mom, who didn’t die like she was told, but ran away to be with another man. Lost her older brother at an early age as well. And so her home, growing up, was just her and her dad (who lost his wife to another man and who outlived his son)… and her one spark of life came in the form of a boy who ended up standing her up on the day that her oppa passed away…

Bora’s character is a reflection of the harsh existence that she has had to deal with her whole life, and the effort it took for Bora to be redeemed by the gentle Tae-Woong, and vice versa, makes this drama totally worthwhile to watch, imo.

  65. Hello all!

    @ ockoala

I received my copy of Northern Lights the other day and will commence reading this weekend, hopefully.

    @ all City Hallers

OMG. What a week. I don’t think I got to bed before 2am each night watching CH after a very long day at work. I think I have about 3 episodes to go.

RE: Takeshi Kaneshiro and Tony Leung

I HEART both of these actors. It seems like eons ago when Tony Leung popped up on the HKdrama scene. I must admit, it has been awhile since I have seen anything these men have made. Kdramas have taken over a bit over the past 5 years :P

  66. forgot to mention that i had to chance to meet Daniel Henney and Lena Park at the KoreAM Unforgettable awards event tomorrow night but had to pass it up because i have a friend staying with me this weekend. so sad…. :(

  67. Happy Friday! I’m so glad it’s the weekend! Real life has been crazy lately so am glad for some destress time. And that means one more day closer to Smile, You!!! Yay!!!

    @langdon813
I agree w/others on Thank You. I thought it was Jang Hyuk’s best work and he had improved so much since Story of a Bright Girl. Gong Hyo-jin is great and Seo Shin-ae is absolutely adorable! She has so much potential! I loved how even though it had a love story, at the heart of it was a human story. I was impressed at how well they (writer/director/etc) handled the issue of AIDS in the drama.

    @ockoala
Can we also include non-ajummas to Chunojammas? Or have a sub-group? Like Kender, I’m not quite an ajumma yet, but I’m so looking forward to Chuno!

And yay for the Tony Leung love! I heart him! Seriously is my favorite actor hands down. And whoever said he’s eyes talk…::sigh:: it’s so true. Even if he isn’t considered the most conventionally good looking actor, his acting abilities, charisma, and on-screen presence puts him leagues and leagues beyond anyone else. Red Cliff has been on my watch-list, will make a note to watch it soon!

Speaking of movies…I’m excited about Jeon Woo Chi with Kang Dong-wan and Im Su-jung. It looks like it’ll be fun and am excited to see Im Su-jung back on the big screen.

  68. Happy OT everyone!
I can’t believe Thanksgiving is next week! I will be spending it grateful for YB but sad its ended. Oh what is family going to do with me!
    @cingdoc
Wow your acceptance speech was wonderful. And so very true.

@JB Thank you and I’m about to jump on that!

@samsooki Hilarious! My friend had those issues during BOF days. I would text her and “Almost Paradise” blasted on her desk. She said she would just look around like it wasn’t her….seemed to work.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. And has anyone seen Lobbyist? I’m watching it now and I enjoy it but Harry gets the crap smacked out of him every other episode…Does this continue? And Tokyo Dogs I’ve dl eps 1-2, is anyone keeping up with this show? How is it fairing?

@Kender Haven’t done the online thing but hope your experience is a good one. I know quite a few people that it has worked out really well for.

  69. @ Kender, lovenyc52, Taohua

Anyone below the age of 30 is a baby in my eyes – if I’m your unni, then I’ll baby you. ;-) Taohua – Chunojammas was a group introduced to me by the esteemed hjkomo (whom I adore inspite of our college blood feud), so I’ll let her decide whether the sub-group Chunoagasshis should be created.

    @ crzycpl

You’re watching one of my favorite dramas and planning to start reading one of my favorite books – sigh, can I hang with you this weekend? I’m assuming from the “OMG” in your comment, and the fact that you’re on a City Hall bender – that you are enjoying it? Three more episodes to go, huh? So, you’re at the end of episode 17 when JG is k****ing before BB? That scene should be studied in acting 101 from both actors, IMO.

    @59 Rin

Good luck studing for the LSAT! Not much I can impart, other than do more pratice tests. Time will be a critical factor.

Lastly, Psst: I’ll be at a certain bakery early tomorrow morning feeding the ockoala babies.

And most importantly – I forgot to mention the one group every single person here is probably a member of – WLJB – We Love Javabeans!

  70. @49 cingdoc

You’re such a sweetheart, that was a lovely post! I’m also very thankful for this place and for all of you guys! Being able to talk to people who don’t think you’re nuts for loving what you love is one of the best things in the world. This time last year I had not even heard of a Kdrama…I can’t even believe that! And here I am now with 36 Kdramas under my belt (and counting)!

Now, if only someone could get me out of seeing New Moon tonight, I’d be even more thankful!

  71. Is anyone watching don’t hesitate? Somehow I’ve gotten caught up in this 100+ episode series. My friend won’t even let me tell her about it in fear that she’ll start getting into it. Sadly, I didn’t realize until I was 20 episodes in that I had more than 3/4 to go.
Question: Is Tae woo the actor from 9E2O?
Also, (SPOILER ALERT!) If Min Young keeps up the drinking, he’s going to need another liver by the end of the series, sheesh.

  72. I thought I’d add some flavor to some TW dramas for fans in OT (JB always does this in her recaps, and it adds so much understanding and appreciation of the good writing in k-dramas).

Autumn Concerto – the English name of the drama is completely misleading – the Chinese title is Xia I Jan, Xin Fu or literal translation “Next Stop, Happiness” – referring to stops on a train or bus. Each episode is not numbered, rather episode 1 is “First Stop” and so on, we’re now up to “Seventh Stop.” I love this – the drama is about a journey, each stop represents another detour the couple must take, and the *Last Stop” when we get there, represents the eternal happiness we want Vanness and Ady to find together.

I’m very impressed with AC – and not just because Vanness took a 1 minute shower for us.

I think this trend started with Coffee Prince (each episode a”cup”), and Easy Fortune, Happy Life also went this route with each episode being titled “First Dose”, “Second Dose”, etc. (as the drama is about a chaebol of a Chinese medicinal company).

    Re: Osamu Tezuka works

I forgot who asked last week when we discussed Princess Sapphire and Osamu Tezuka, but his works have begun to receive high quality re-print in the US, and I found Black Jack translated in such amazing quality (capturing both the medical terms and the biting wit of Tezuka), it’s now on my Christmas want list (I bought Book 1 to check it out). Black Jack was Tezuka’s most popular adult work, considered an epochal series, and this translation I found on Amazon on sale. The book jacket is sensational in its design.

  73. I’m dreading this upcoming weekend. So much to do. But at least I can relax for a few hours by catching up on You’re Beautiful.

    Life’s not that bad I guess :)

  74. Hi everyone~ happy friday!! =) it’s actually my first time on OT… yea.. still a newbie, but doooood!! i LOVE this site. Javabeans, you’re one awesome lady!! *90 degree bae-ggop in-sah & a big hug*

btw, anyone watching Creating Destiny (w Eugene)? i’m beginning to really like it.. aLot!! (of course, not as much as YB)

    @ nea:notoriousnoona
i just finished watching Tokyo Dogs e1 & liked it.. (i had just finished watching Mei-chan no Shitsuji?? well, in English it’s Mei-chan’s Butler.. and so, it was a leeetle hard getting used to seeing Hiro in a comic role all of a sudden.)

  75. @ockoala – any idea why it’s called Autumn’s Concerto then? I did read on wiki that the chinese name of the show was “Next Stop, Happiness” (which sounds so much prettier in chinese btw) but how it translates to Autumn’s Concerto is beyond me. Is it because of the Bach tune they refer to? But how the Bach tune = Autumn’s Concerto… dunno that either. I guess this is the same issue with kdrama titles (Please Take Care of the Aghassi = Lady Castle…??) oh ya and mmm i know which bakery you’re referring to. hee hee. I wish i was up early enough to stop by before the crazy crowd forms… but Saturday = sleeping in till noon haha…

  76. @ 69 ockoala

OK, so I hadn’t watched ep 17. But I know have and you are right. The last scene when JG is k****ing before BB … powerful stuff. JG’s eyes!! I so get your talk about CSW’s eyes!!

The whole scene where JG waits all night long for SMR outside the p***** station, I was almost in tears. Heart breaking stuff. CSW totally stole this episode.

    Onto episode 18!!

  77. @ 55

    JB! THANK YOU!!

The Plum Blossom ringtone is a-w-e-s-o-m-e! I am totally gonna rock..err..play it on my phone. Thanks again!

  78. Can someone share a ringtone from the Tamra OST? I’m technologically deficient and would love to have my phone ring with either Blue Destiny, Blue or William.

    @ crzycpl

Episode 17 was the showcase of Cha Seung-won’s acting prowess in City Hall. Be prepared, cuz episode 18 is Kim Su-nah’s chance to meet and beat CSW’s killer performance in episode 17. And just like CSW made a speech to KSA in episode 15 (my absolute fave episode ever!), KSA returns the favor and has a speech to CSW that killed me (I didn’t cry, but got close – and it made me just gasp for air).

The hardest scene for me to watch in episode 17 was the scene at the park.

  79. @61 samsooki

Go with the instrumental versions of the songs for your ringtones.

Sadly for me, Verizon locked out ringtones other than their own $$ ones from my phone, and I haven’t gotten around that yet. There’s Big Bad Voodoo Daddy song I’ve been trying to sneak on as a ringtone.

When I make DVDs, I use the instrumentals off of the OSTs of various kDramas as the menu music. The Coffee Prince ones particularly good ones. Never fails to get a “what is that lovely music” comment.

  80. Last OT quite a few people generously offered up Bollywood/Hindi Rom-Com suggestions in answer to my request. I thought some might find them useful as a list so I’ve gathered them here, I think (sorry if I missed any).

It’s a long list, so again, apologies for the long post.

    • Jab We Met
    • Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi
    • Bride and Prejudice
    • 1)Try Dil Chahta Hai:-) ‘Fun’tastic movie:-)
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dil_Chahta_Hai
    • 2)Wake up Sid
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wake_Up_Sid
    • 3)Dostana
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dostana_(2008_film)
    • Have you seen Faana? The theme might be a little controversial but I thought the movie was wonderful. The song ” tere haath mein mera haath ho” is one of the most hauntingly beautiful ever.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tS8pjB1K24g
    • Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge is a classic
    • Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam is also a good film. But very opulent and a lot more melodramatic, but the cinematography is beautiful.
    • Oh and another fun one is Hum Tum which is the Bollywood take on How Harry Met Sally. It is pretty cute and the main leads have great chemistry.
    • And if you’re interested in South Indian films, the Telugu film Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana is good, it’s an updated take on the early 90s Hindi film love story cliche, but with great music, acting, and cinematography. There are some cute and hilarious scenes in this movie. It’s subbed somewhere on youtube I think. And I know you can get this from Netflix.
    • Jodha-Akbar – ridiculously long historical, BUT Hritik Roshan is beautiful
actually you don’t need to watch the movie just watch this clip:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnOIvkaQddk
    • Kal ho na ho – this could EASILY be a k-drama, in fact it might already be, great chemistry between the 3 leads, and starring the ONE AND ONLY shah rukh khan (the man is a legend)
    • Sholay – if the good the bad and the weird was a kimchi-western, then sholay is the 1970’s curry-western. It was and shall remain THE bollywood film.
    • SALAAM NAMASTE. Fun and funny. The two leads are the same ones in KAL HO NA HO. Good chemistry.
    • Kuch Kuch Hota Hai
    • Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham (They are like Hindi Movie 101 and they feature many of the big names you need to know if you’re going to pass yourself off as a true connoisseur.)
    • Humraaz- Full of surprise twists
    • Chori Chori, Chupke Chupke- Hindi version of Pretty Woman
    • Baghban- My favorite Amitabh film
    • Water- Not a Romcom but very good and also features my Husband John Abraham
    • Tara zameen par – very very nice and touching movie
    • ghajini (hindi version)
    • Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na
    • namastey london
    • Dhadkan
    good though not romcoms exactly
    • tare zameen par
    • Rock ON
    • Bheja Fry

  81. @ 78 ockoala

OK, just finished ep 18 and the stares are killing me!! Everyone’s got their own deathly stare!!

You can just tell by JG’s eyes that he doesn’t want to see SMR go through any more pain. ARRRGGGHH!!! CSW, where have you been all of my life??!!!

Yes, ep 17 park scene pained me.

    Onto ep 19!

  82. @ ockoala – i’d be happy to edit a ringtone for you if you’d like. Just let me know which songs and which clips you’d like and i’ll do my best. My old Samsung phone came with a sound editing program that i’ve been using for all my ringtones and i love it :)

re: YB – i’m currently talking to my guy friend about YB (i ever-so-gently persuaded him to watch it) and i dono how he’s stuck it out this long as his list of complaints is long… here’s a summary of what he doesn’t like:

    1) TK has too much guyliner
    2) Jeremy is too weird
    3) Hates Uee (ok i can understand that haha)
    4) TK can’t act and he’s BORING (!??!?!?!)
    5) First 7 episodes were boring, but at least #8 kind of picked up
    6) Gong Yoo is a better actor
    7) Lee Min Ho is a better actor
    8) Doesn’t like how TK says ‘Go Mi Nam!!’

I have been yelling at him IN ALL CAPS for the last 10 minutes. I know everyone is entitled to their own opinions (#1-3 is personal opinion so fine, i can let that go), but how is it that he says TK can’t act and is boring!!??? Maybe my ICOMYM has gotten the better of me and i’m blinded by luuurve. And why would you watch 7 episodes of something when you can’t stand half the cast and dislike the story? I don’t even know how Gong Yoo and Min Ho came into the conversation. Anyways, my blood pressure just skyrocketed I’m sure and this morning I found a white hair. Sigh. Rant over.

  83. happy OT everyone!

once again, im advertising for an ethnography proj im doing for an anthropology class, and i’ve picked JB’s Friday OT’s as my subject! to give you guys an idea about the proj, my professor’s prompt was this: “Techno-Cultures”
How are new technologies and devices (laptops, hand held devices, I-pods etc.) shaping or reshaping how people socialize; define friendship and intimacy; use, inhabit and move through space; understand the “private” and “public”; consume music and information; and structure and make use of leisure time. Do people construct sub-cultures or identities around their specific uses of technology?

if any of you are willing to answer some questions, u can shoot me an email with ur contact info!
    awulubbshow@gmail.com
    thanks alot you guys!

  84. haha i just noticed that my #8 reason on post #82 came up as 8) HA! i’m so bad at smiley faces – don’t know which symbols go with what.

  85. @82 lovenyc52
I just typed a long post that answered your question, but it went “poof” in the kdramaland…oh well

  86. Damn why do i have to go out……Haven’t got time at the moment to read all of the OT (yet) but will be back! But from what I have skimmed so far……

    Takeski Kaneshiro
Gee my OTers are really in tune with my mind! How else did you all know to mention Takeshi Kaneshiro in the recent OTs when I am planning on seeing him (ok not him him *sigh* if only! but onscreen) at the end of month? LOL

Have to say my love for him goes way back – back when he was not such a great actor (still awesomely handsome!) in ‘Lost and Found’. A cute and sweet movie that made me cry.

Also re: Tony Leung. Love him. Love him in dramas. Love him comedies (which really the non Asian audience do not know what they are missing out on… they see him probably only in ’serious’ Tony roles eg In the Mood for Love). And yep agree his eyes are the key

    @ockoala
“So many fun groups exist on OT (with plenty of overlap and no entrance requirements):…..
    10. BRA or “Baby Rain’s aunties”

    HAHAHAHA
    BRA!
LMAO at the title. Speaking of which – Samsooki have you been sharing of JiHoon’s pics with my fellow ‘BRA’ members and not keeping me updated?! New pics to my email STAT! hmm I will send you a ‘reminder’ :)

    @javabeans
Not only are you the legendary blogger, AAA++ crack dealer on all things kdrama now OMG the ringtones!! Huge thanks to you! I’d be using one of the tracks from the YB OST as my ringtone (while having the OST on endless playlist) – these ones will totally be added ASAP (well after I finish dl Ep 14 that is!)

*sigh* gotta go….this is killing me :(

  87. @ lovenyc52

Thank you so much for you offer! You are so generous, I much appreciate it.

I would love a ringtone with the Your Tears instrumental from the Tamra OST.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPtRRoC4bok&feature=related

I’ll buy you a sea salt coffee and a milk bread when I see you at the bakery during the rush hour.

    @ crzycpl

I’m loving your “real-time” City Hall updates, you are so cute! And totally making me re-live CH moments with you. I’m expecting more CSW wow-type remarks in the next update, I assure you it’s forthcoming. And CSW is a major movie star in Korea, I’d not seen him until City Hall because I watch mostly dramas. My “I lub you” Jung Woo-sung also has the same issue in terms of exposure to the rest of drama loving Asia – he hasn’t acted in a drama in like 15 years!

  88. Sea salt coffee?? is it good?? oO

  89. @Samsooki
just saw YOUR KJH on the cover of NYLON ( a magazine??)…bedroom eyes and everything….ringtone…I would have imagined HGD on yours Bberry.
I wish I could d/l JB’s ringtone on my cell, but I ,too have Verizon, and it’s next to impossible to d/l anything that’s not theirs into the phone, pooh! I would have “I will promise you….” on it, and I don’t care who gives me the look….I would just LOOK back ;)

It’s delicious. ;-) If you live in SoCal, I can tell you where to try it.

  91. @ 87 ockoala

OMONA!!! SMR, you didn’t give in!! You go, girl!! The love between JG and SMR … ahhh .. if only all loves were that strong and supportive … and the trust … oh the trust. I heart you SMR and JG!! FIGHTING!!

Is it just me or does BB look like he’s about to have a heart attack every time he talks?? Is it a bit too much over-acting?

I’m going to have to go research CSW’s work now. I’ve always been a fan of KSA ever since I saw MNIKSS.

Jung Woo-sung? Who is Jung Woo-sung??

    OK…. last episode.

  92. @ ockoala
wooooo… sound interesting! where can i try this sea salt coffee?? (i do live in SoCal, btw.. in ktown! ^__^ heehee)

  93. @lovenyc52
Since the earlier post got “vaporized”, I will just give you the abrideged version-
Your friend can’t compare Gong Yoo with JGS- 2 different types of actor, BOTH good ( I’m “Mrs Gong Yoo” in OT and ICOMYM on JGS, so I’m not bias, he he)
Gong Yoo started as a goofy kind of character (Biscuit teacher /star candy) and gradually worked toward his best work ever (at least to me) in Coffee Prince. ( I must have seen CP for the upteemth time, and I still cry when I see Cup#13- this man can cry!!!!). His stellar career is on hiatus now due to his military service, but I’m sure we will hear/see more of his project in a few months (MS ends 12/12/09…yeah).
JGS- well this guy practically grow up in front of the viewers. The first movie I saw him in was Baby and me. The movie was light, but JGS shines in it ( a star, GMN)
This young man is like a fine wine , getting better with time. I mean his acting ranges are great ( Hwang Jin Yi, HGD and the gruesome Itaewon Murder Cases).

However, I can relate to your friend ,too. I mean HTK’s guyliner, smirkiness and being so dark annoy the heck out of me, too. But, then if you have a w**ch for a mother, you would be grumpy and fail miserably in the social skills department , too(GO MIN NAM all the time- although now I can see it as endearing to him; it’s HIS way of calling His GMN) . The fact that HTK is too grumpy to your friends tells me that JGS acts well and portray the character well.

Anyhoo, share this with your friend, and if that didn’t help, tell your friend this…”Chill, this is only a drama, just Enjoy it ” he he ;)

Sorry, lied to you about this being the shorter version ;)
Darn..got to go…just heard them calling my name….

  94. Happy Friday everyone. The weather has been wonderful today here in AZ. I see there are some fellow Glee fans in this thread. I honestly adore that show, it is so much fun to watch. Everything high school musical wasn’t.

I absolutely love Kurt, he is just awesome. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving everyone. I for one will be eating lots of pumpkin pie!!!

  95. @91crzycpl
yeah, another CSW fan…try this for his earlier work “Bodyguard”…warning , CSW looks nothing like that anymore, but I recognize his “booming” laugh and the eyes, yup those eyes..
    @ockoala
my OC’s connection just called me , and we might be down there Sun…probably not 85oF, but the TofuHouse a couple doors down (it’s cold, man)…mmmm, bumping into the whole ockoala clan…sounds good…how would I know if it’s you…should I yell “TEAM PARK KYU” or “GO MIN NAM…don’t stand where I can’t see you”…lol ;)

the staff is calling me again….coming…

  96. @ ktwngrl

    http://www.yelp.com/biz/85c-irvine

Make it a day trip – spend the rest of the day at South Coast Plaza.

    @ cingdoc

You’ll recognize me by the ockoala babies, of course! Oh, and the BCD Tofu House in Irvine is on my crap list. It has the worst suntobu I have ever eaten, and many of my friends and relatives have all remarked the same thing. The soup base is completely watered down and tastes very diluted (I want to alert the BCD corporate office that their Irvine franchisee is singlehandedly ruining their reputation). If you want Tofu on this cold weekend, go to the BCD Tofu in Garden Grove. It tastes just the way it should be.

    9520 Garden Grove Blvd # B
    Garden Grove, CA 92844-1528
    (714) 636-5599

If you want to stay in Irvine, I suggest the Tofu place on the corner of Jeffrey and Walnut, or go across the plaza from the BCD and get Seollontang (Ox-tail soup) at the Korean restaurant on the other side. Why am I getting Brilliant Legacy flashbacks……?

    @ crzypls

I want to hear your final thoughts, can’t wait! Oh, and Jung Woo-sung, I’ll tell you all about him in another OT, let’s stick to CSW for now. ;-)

  97. @26 – nycgirl: For Jang Hyuk, try “Robbers/Con Man” or the movie, “Windstruck”. I think he had a stronger presence in those roles than in “Thank You”.

@Dramabean: Wow! Now, we’re getting ring tones, too?!!! You are our fantastic super-heroine! You always save the day!!!

    Thank you.

    Happy Weekend to everyone!

  98. @ ockoala

Thanx! will take your advice about the day trip. =)

hmmmm… don’t really like BCD in general cuz i think the tofu tastes kind of sour.. weird. If you’re ever in ktown, you MUST try Beverly soondooboo. yummmm!

  99. @97 Auntie Mame -

Ohhhhh, I totally forgot about Windstuck! Yes, yes I agree. Jang Hyuk was in that, although it wasn’t his character that made it for me. Jun Ji-hyun….of course, was very special. A wonderful movie.

    :D

  100. @ 96 ockoala

Awwwwww … sweetness all the way. The couple are just <3 CSW really did steal this drama for me. Although I did applaud KSA's acting, her emotions weren't conveyed as clearly to me as those by CSW. I heart CSW!

The "Sorry, sorry" dance sequence was just to die for! HILARITY! KSA looks so cool, as did Boo-Mi! And I loved the way that JG was blowing kisses at SMR. I'm racking my brains trying to remember which movie (a Hollywood one, I'm sure) where there was a similar way the actors blew kisses but it escapes me at present.

I think I understand why I like this drama so much more than others. Is it because it is targeted to those over 25 i.e. not hormonal teenagers? Not to say that I didn't swoon over the F4 boys earlier this year. Maybe because CSW and KSA are more experienced actors. But there was none of that awkward kiss feeling that I get when I watch other kdramas. Their kisses seemed so real and I'm sure I saw CSW slip the tongue in there a few times! :D Nor did I feel that any of their 'skinship' or intimacy was forced. For example, when they're sitting on the stairs and she's holding the pink flower. I was like, hey, that looks so normal and they don't look like they're acting at all!

I feel like joining a CSW/KSA ship, which I'm sure if I searched through soompi long enough, I'd be able to find the thread! :P

Thanks to all the OTers who suggested that I watch CH. It was worth the sleepless nights this past week.

It's almost 2am here so I should really call it a night! Until next week! :)

  101. stopping by again, he he…the danger of having my laptop with me…

    @ockoala
thanks for all those suggestion…I’m a natural born foodie (my Mom always says HKG people are born to eat ;) ….Oxtail soup…sounds good right now, but ehh, kinda hard to do that …Sun…korean food…

    @ktwngrl
Where were you last week?? I just did my rare trip to the K town Galleria last weekend ( don’t laugh…that’s all I know where to go )…had my first jajangmyum, and it was delish ( might have been cra**y to you), but I love it. So, may I ask you where Beverly soondooboo is ?? Thanks

    @Samsooki
Have you replenished some of your sleep, yet? I often wonder how you look like (more so after your little comments a while back about how other Korean women reacted when they saw you and your wife walking down the street). And with your (obsess)/possesiveness of KJH, it makes me imagine you looking like him…@hjkomo, am I close???

  102. @ 96 ockoala

Awwwwwww ……. they’re so cute! Don’t they just look so good together? They should just get married for real. Yes, I’m joining the CSW/KSA ship!! :D

I think I’ve worked out why I like this drama so much. There were no ‘awkward’ kisses which I tend to see in a lot of kdramas. I’m not sure, but maybe it is a product of CSW and KSA being more experienced and ‘older’ actors, but their kisses were not that pressed lips thing we get in most kdramas. In fact, I’m pretty sure that CSW slipped the tongue in a few times, for added effect :P

And nor did their ’skinship’ moments or hugs feel forced. I really liked the scene when they were on the stairs and she had the pink rose. I finally thought, wow … now there’s a natural scene. And the both of them looked so comfortable in each other’s arms.

The ‘Sorry, sorry’ dance sequence was hilarious! Seriously, who thinks of these things?? :D And I particularly liked how JG was blowing kisses at SMR … so cool.

CSW really did steal the show for me. I’m now so disappointed that CH wasn’t as popular as it should have been.

Thanks to all those out there who suggested I watch CH. I can now categorise it in the ‘love’ kdrama list.

  103. Just wanted to stop by and say Happy Friday to everyone.

    @nycgrl
    get better.

Kinda sad that the LSG concert got cancelled last Saturday but went to the USC game instead and watched history unfold.

The rest of the week – been nursing my YB addiction. What am I going to do when it ends next week??

  104. I want a SAMSUNG CORBY for christmas.. but I don’t think it is available in the U.S. yet..

does anybody know? I checked the samsung us web site, and it is not even listed on their available phones!!!

I’ll definitely trade my BBerry for a Corby. Just so I can have a little piece of YAB and JGS even after the drama ends. Especially the lime green Corby.

  105. @Samsooki
You know how we celebrate OT #100….well, what should BRA (Baby Rain’s Aunties) do for Ji Hoon’s 100 days celebration…
since I’m still in JGS’s mood, I probably would watch his Baby and me…what does Papa Samsooki suggest?

    ***off topic now….Tony Leung
The last movie I saw of him was Hero with Jet Li and Maggie Cheng. The movie was definitely a WOW for me- I’m a sucker for HKG-style martial arts movie, and it was perfectly done, but what I remembered most about the movie Hero was – Color….vivid, beautiful color…

  106. Happy friday OT everyone…
this last week is like hell in the office with two big loadouts, DONE!!
but sadly with all the commotion, my body is acting up by adding a sore throat on the list of problems, sigh…

well we do not normally do thanksgiving here, but i want to give my thank-you to the most beautiful, hardworking, kind, and generous JB for the awesome recaps, news (or cracks as i may say :P ) and to all of you JB addicts for your wonderful comments, snippets, and reccomendations…

i finally able to persuade one of my friend in singapore to watch YB last week, and after watching 1 episode, she just couldn’t stop!! while i was crashing her place, sleeping soundly, she was having a YB marathon until morning, she didn’t sleep a bit…. we were crying together on jeremy’s bus scene (GREAT SCENE!!!)

@Red Cliff, Ahh the awesomeness of Tony Leung and Takeshi Kaneshiro in one great movie… when i have to wait about 6 months for RC2, the wait is killing me… it is better to watch them all at once…

@ringtones, now i am having RingDingDong ringtone, i always giggle when my phone rings, XD

  107. @94 i”m also in Az! You wouldn’t happen to know where I can find english subbed K-dramas in the Phx metro area would you?

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

  108. @ crzypls

Just curious – how did the City Hall you watched end? I’ve seen it online and on DVD where the final credits are cut, and there are 2 not-to-be-missed scenes that air during the credits.

Ah yeah, we’ve got another City Haller, folks! I’m so glad that you enjoyed it, that’s the most important thing, that the drama brought you joy and excitement. KSA and CSW are without a doubt a perfect pairing for me – but they can’t get married in real life, CSW has a wife of 20 years, and his eldest son is almost 20. Crazy, huh? He oozed sex appeal during the show, I constantly fanned myself.

My fave episode 20 moment was the Moon River sequence in her garden – now that is how a man ought to p**p*se.

The City Hall love story was very meaningful for me to watch – it was adult, mature, sexy, complicated, sweet, and man oh man, those two were making out and making googly eyes like no other k-drama couple I’ve ever seen. And I totally saw tongue, it’s not to be denied, they were kissing for real, and that translated on screen. Well, we’ll be here if you need to discuss some more~

  109. Anyone seen Hero yet?

I haven’t… just curious to hear anyone’s first impression.

  110. @46 ockoala

I want to add one latest addition

    11. ObbA (ockoala’s babies/baobei’s aunties) Honorary members so far (by youtube posts) langdon813, cingdoc, hjkomo and yours truly.

Checked a few mins ago, already 56 views. Anyone who wants to join please search ockoala puzzle youtube. Will help to take your mind (temporary) away from YB. :-)

    @49 cingdoc

Aaaw shucks, so sweet your thanksgiving speech! Thank you for including me, I feel so inept with all of you so well-read, articulate, knowledgeable etc etc (I am at a loss of words to describe) but yet am accepted as a friend. Just warms my heart, like GMN tells Manager Ma, I feel the cirit-cirit…LOL

    @82 lovenyc52

You are our Team Park Kyu darling baby, so you have the chance to be carried by PK on his shoulders, howzat? :-D

Doesn’t like how TK says ‘Go Mi Nam!!’
Oh no… please tell your friend the way TK says it is so endearing (there’s hidden undertone of love in the way he calls especially now). I just lurved it! But then again, guys will be guys I guess and no matter how you explain these types of emotions they will not get it. You’re too young to get another grey hair.

I’m gonna miss it when real GMN comes back. I wonder how is TK’s going to change calling Go Mi Nam? What is he going to call her, can’t be pig-rabbit all the time rite?

  111. Wow, the first thing I did when I got home, of course, is catch up on today’s OT. :D
So engrossed I was….that when hubby got home (early, for a change), he had to loudly holler, “HONEY, I’M HOME!!!!!” a couple times before I looked up from my laptop. LOL. :P

As cingdoc said so well in her acceptance speech –
I am truly grateful for all of my OT friends here. And THANK YOU, SARAH, for bringing all of us together. :D

JB, I’d gladly use one of your ringtones (ROI!!!) for my phone, but I’m still in the stone age of cell phones – my phone doesn’t even take ringtone downloads…ha!

    @23, Samsooki

You must choose ONE – KJH or Binnie.
    Who will it be???

    And I’m wondering if you…
    1) are on your paternity leave
    2) don’t have much of a deficit on billable hours, or
    3) your multi-talking skills have reached new stratospheric heights
…for you to be able to spend so much time on the OT. ;)

    Re: Don’t Hesitate
A word of warning. It’s a daily drama which induces headdesking, eye-rolling, blood-pressure-raising frustration, and throwing various objects at the screen. I was suckered by friends into this one because of Tae Woo (Lee Sang Woo – 9E2O, 19 vs. 29, The Road Home, Penthouse Elephant), and, granted, there is a bit of LSW fanservice provided, but I’ve also had to invest in a safety helmet to protect my brain from the constant headdesking.

    @36, langdon813

I am also looking forward to watching Pirate Radio – a rare one, where both hubby and I want to see it.

    @46, ockoala
    10) BRA or “Baby Rain’s aunties”

    Wha?!?!?!?!?! O_O
Please, let’s come up with something else….

    J-HA’s (Ji Hoon’s Aunties – pronounced jay-ha’s)?
JAAD (Ji-Hoon’s Aunties Against Daddy’s influence)?

    I don’t know…something……ANYTHING… :P

    @67, Taohua

Non-ajumma Chunojummas are dubbed, Chunoholics. 8)

    @82, lovenyc52

    LOL at your friend’s comments!
Hey, to each his own, right?

I tried to get hubby to watch IRIS again (I had stopped after ep.4)…
    ~ Excerpts ~
Ep. 5 -> robot dancing (mocking) to the action-sequence soundtrack,
“Even an action drama has this cheesy crap?” (referring to the montage of HJ/SH moments)
    Ep. 6 -> “I’m going to bed.”
Ep. 7 (the next night) -> “This is dumb.”
Ep. 8 -> Hubby went to bed while I stayed up to watch (not even very late, by my standards), and then I ended up falling asleep on the couch (during the ep).
    :P

  112. @hjkomo,

    you’re so silly. :D

  113. (112 is me, not sure why i disappeared).

Multi-tasking is what I do – for instance after I got home tonight: two loads of laundry (one for baby, one for me and Mama Samsooki), dinner (a weird mishmash of beef broth, mandoo dumplings, egg noodles (ran out of udon noodles), and green onions, lol), two baby feedings, and drafting the next recap for City Hall.

    :D

  114. You know, I kinda like bringing the laptop to work… at least I’m not soooo behind in reading the OT. Usually, it’s about now or a little later that I would step inside the house, get dinner started, and THEN I can read the OT. It would then takes me another hour or so before I’m done reading…shoud I??.no, I’ll be sensible and NOT bring the laptop to work. First of all, today was an anomaly. The work load was light, and I had the spare time. Otherwise, I’m too busy to even scarf down my lunch before heading back to see more patients, soooo ***sigh*** just leave my precious laptop at home, and just drive as fast as I can to my friends at OT.

    @My Thanksgiving speech
I’m glad that you guys like it…it comes from my heart , and I mean every words of it …I’m a sentimental fool , and I cry very easily ( last nite was bad…first, epi 14 of YB, then I followed it with JGS in Hwang Jin YI…I was sobbing so hard…I was a mess)

    @simplesim
my partner in crime in “dissecting” YB
    Today’s topic: the love pentagon
I personally think it’s still a love triangle- HTK. GMN and SW. Yes, we all saw Jeremy’s confession to GMN, but I think that love/feeling is more a crush because up until then, Jeremy did not show any special love toward GMN. Besides, I think Jeremy was a better “Man” than his two hyungs in the love department. He handles the rejection better, and “let it go” smoother than Mr. Grumpy and Mr.I’m-a-step-behind. Jeremy came right out and told GMN how he felt, even though at the end, his love was not reciprocated.
Fake Fairy- not even a threat at all…

    -the last 2 episodes
I really dying to find out how the Hong sisters going to solve all these problems:
-the obvious conflicted feeling HTK feels about his love for GMN vs his hatred toward the witch, I mean his mother and her “undying love” for GMN’s Dad.
-Is GMN going to fight for her love or is she going to escape to the convent??? Are we going to have a scene from ” Sound of Music”- where the Mother Superior going talk with Maria, I mean Gemma about love??? Instead of the 6 kids going to find Maria, are we going to have Jeremy and Jolie go to the front step of the convent and ask for GMN??
    - HTK I know you are good in sulking and smirking, but come on, grow up!!! We all know how much you hate your Mom…she probably has alcoholic dementia already…What “undying love”???For all we know, the song was written for the Twin’s mother…Like the Fake Fairy, HTK’s mother couldn’t accept the truth about who really love who ( the twin’s parent and not her)….delusional fool…isn’t bad enough that YOU have suffered for your love, why do you have to “pay forward” this suffering to the 2 young lovers??? I CAN”T WAIT TIL NEXT WEEK

  115. ^ LOL!
I just realized I wrote “multi-talking” instead of “multi-tasking” skills.
…wonder what Freud would say about that… ;)

I do so much multi-tasking (and -talking) at work….that I turn into a vegetable when I get home.

Large pile of laundry waiting to be washed. Check.
Dinner. Check. (Hubby is presently in the kitchen making it)
Continuing to catch up on OT. Check, check, check.
    :P

  116. I just finished watching summer scent ep 17. I liked it. Recomended who wants to see soft spoken, very calm woman in a korean drama.

  117. Just got back from New Moon. Oh, the hilarity!

Before I forget, you guys will be SO proud of me. I did the ICOMYM Club proud tonight! Early on, Bella gets hurt (duh) and Jacob whipped off his shirt…so I CLAPPED! And then so did everybody else! It was outstanding. I bet you that is happening all over the world during that scene. (He’s NOT legal, he’s NOT legal, he’s NOT legal…) :-D I’m SO Team Jacob at this moment.

    NEW MOON SPOILERS (kinda)

It’s pretty bad, y’all. But I had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed it, if that makes any sense. Taylor Lautner was absolutely fantastic; his acting is just head and shoulders above every other person in the cast, truly. Kristen Stewart was her usual sullen, non-emoting self although I think she’s better in this than the first movie. Robert Pattinson basically gritted his teeth and gleamed (a lot). It’s pretty true to the book in that it’s the Jacob and Bella show…everyone else has one or two random scenes and that’s it. Michael Sheen is hilarious (perhaps intentionally, it’s hard to tell) as a foppish Aro. Dakota Fanning was onscreen for about a minute but I thought she made a very good Jane. Seriously, the entire supporting cast had very little screen time. I can’t remember anyone in the cast other than Taylor and Kristen who had more than 10 lines of dialogue.

GREAT ending though, which I would not dream of spoiling.

  118. I usually never comment but I noticed today on this open thread a lot of Tony Leung and Takeshi Kaneshiro Love and I have to stay I HEART both these actors especially you know who. Intense gaze from Takeshi Kaneshiro *faints. I loved Red Cliff as well but another great movie that they were both in was Confessions of Pain. The story line was great and they both looked really good in it ha ha ha. So I recommend it for you all to watch. :)

  119. still obsessing about YB. there are a lot of things that i find annoying about it, though, but not enough to hinder my love for it =D

does anyone know if there really is going to be a season 2 of you’re beautiful? this question was killing me all day in school today, seriously.

  120. @ockoala
How can you deny me of a chance to yell TEAM PARK KYU or GO MI NAM, Don’t go where I can’t see you??
I mean I definitely would do that to @langdon when we meet up early next year…I might make a bunch of ICOMYM buttons and wear one on my shirt and see which stranger would come up to me and say “hi”…

for @hjkomo, I would wear my Cal shirt

for @Samsooki…well, since I notice he NEVER respond to any of my posting and answer them, I would just plain ignore him… Nah, I probably would notice his cutie pie Ji Hoon…

  121. @cingdoc: I love this from you

“Is GMN going to fight for her love or is she going to escape to the convent??? Are we going to have a scene from ” Sound of Music”- where the Mother Superior going talk with Maria, I mean Gemma about love??? Instead of the 6 kids going to find Maria, are we going to have Jeremy and Jolie go to the front step of the convent and ask for GMN??:

    hahahaha. :) )

    **
On another note, I am getting into a more serious time-travel Jdrama – Jin. Ep1 is excellent but with the whole You’re beautiful mania, I postpone it for a while.

  122. @hjkomo
Yay! Chunoholics it is! I saw the stills posted earlier today w/LDH and OJH—am so excited. I think I may watch the 1st episode of Hometown Legends 2008 just to see more of PD Kwak’s work.

I still love YAB, but I’ve been kind of frustrated with the last couple of episodes. Mostly because I’ve felt some of the situations have been forced so my enthusiasm has definitely waned a bit, but I really do enjoy it. Some of the issues that I’ve had with previous Hong sisters’ dramas that have crept up in YAB is the other main reason. And on the topic of JGS and the guyliner….I think JGS looks hot w/o it, hot when it’s only on the bottom lid. It’s okay on the upper lid if it’s kept thin, but they’ve really gone overboard. There definitely some scenes, where I was like “why is he wearing more eyeliner than me when I go out?” Though this is not really important since JGS is fantastic as HTK…but still…(it’s actually sad that I’ve thought this much about it…)

I have time to pick up a new drama…I’m thinking Tamna which I know many of you love and have recommended, but I’m not sure whether I should wait until all 21 episodes are made available (hopefully through Dramafever or something). Or just go ahead and watch it.

And randomly, has anybody watched the Kdrama, Noona? I’ve heard it’s good? It aired I think in 2007.

  123. @Red Cliff
Geesh… talk about crazy…all these talking about Red Cliff has peaked my interest in perhaps trying to watch it on line, and then as I was reading the synopsis from a cerain online site- mys*** and it reads, starring Tony Leung Kar Fai. Ok…stop, did I just do a faux pas earlier about liking TL in Hero?? I was thinking about Tony Leung Chiu Wei, you know the actor that started in TVB…I did some more research, and **whew** no Alzheimer’s moment, I actually got my duckies straight…

  124. @ 118 Mrs. Kaneshiro

You’ve just inspired me to change my user-name. Henceforth I am Mrs. Jung. My husband’s name is Woo-sung.

Seriously, awesome user name. Way better than calling *mine* over and over again. Just go ahead and name yourself after your one true love. I suggest hjkomo become Mrs. Kang, langdon is Mrs. Lee, cingdoc is Mrs. Ji, lovenyc52 is Mrs. TOP, and so forth. Though with the relatively few rotating roster of Korean (same problem with Chinese) last names, we’re bound to cause confusion. Sigh, I shall stay ockoala and keep calling *mine*.

    @ hjkomo

I’ve been waiting for you……I hope that Axe is polished. We wouldn’t want to retrieve it full of smudges and tears. I think hubby knows the outcome, he’s in Boston and won’t even have time to watch, he planned this on purpose. Regardless of the outcome – we’re still Chunojammas and OT-sisters, right? Can’t let a little football trouncing ruin our relationship. You needn’t worry, we’ll keep it in pristine condition, as apparently it’ll be residing in Palo Alto for the foreseeable future as long as Luck and Gerhart are around. ;-)

    @ langdon-unni

Thanks for the NM review. Mwah!

Just had multiple phone conversations with my sister about – TAMRA – she just finished and I knew she would call me….it’s like….1, 2, 3….*ring*. She really enjoyed it – we had a long chat about how Im Joo-hwan reminds her of a cross between Joe Cheng and Fujiyama Masaharu. And she totally thinks Park Kyu is a saguek version of Zi-xu from ISWAK. SHe hearts PK, she’s been youtubing Tamra all afternoon. I’m just an addiction creator it seems.

    @ Taohua

As for YB, it’s been annoying me on and off for the last 4 episodes – so I’m just sitting back and not thinking about it at all so I can enjoy the finale and say that it was a very good drama that I enjoyed. If I overthink I’m bounded to need to rant rant and I don’t want to do that. YB is very enjoyable.

    @ cingdoc

I suggest only saying “Don’t go where I can’t see you!” really loudly, because when you get weird looks, you can pretend you were yelling at your kids (nods of being a good mom) or your husband (grimaces about being a psycho controlling wife). Either way – we can pretend it wasn’t a direct reference to YB.

  125. @ landon813

Brava! You make the ICOMYM Club proud..hehe :P

    (from OT#109)
“Let me ask y’all something – in anticipation of Chuno I thought I should acquaint myself with Jang Hyuk. Recommendations? I watched the first ep of Thank You on Dramafever tonight (didn’t shed a single tear…hmm). I didn’t hate it but I didn’t fall in love with it either, so I’m open to suggestions.”

One important thing to keep in mind while watching JH’s body of work – he’s probably the actor who looks the most different from pre- vs. post- military service. Yeah, lots of actors come back ripped and hotter than ever…but chocolate abs aside, it’s JH’s face that changed the most. Gone are the fuller cheeks of his younger days…

I’m going to have to agree with #97 Auntie Mame (my local kdrama buddy!!) in recommending Robbers over Thank You.

I am in the vast minority with regards to Thank You. The drama was beloved by many, but I found it merely mediocre. As much as I love JH, Shin Sung Rok’s character had more depth, and his performance was more compelling to me. Sure, Seo Shin Ae was adorable…but Gong Hyo Jin’s character was annoying (a far cry from her performance in Ruler Of Your Own World). And while most were enthralled with Shin Goo and his choco-pies, I just kept wishing the writer had given the veteran actor something more worthy of his craft.

Ironically, it was JH’s portrayal of Dr. Min in Thank You which turned many off of Robbers. He starts out as a scoundrel…but is gradually changed by the love of Lee Da Hae.
    Yes, they had fantastic chemistry.
Yes, there were steamy kisses. (Yowza!)
Yes, JH had a Mane of Roadkill (but don’t hold it against him or let it take away from the drama).
Yes, the supporting cast was great – Kim Jung Tae (wonderful!), Kim Hae Sook (fabulous!), Son Byun Ho…and if you think Seo Shin Ae is adorable, wait till you see little Kim Hwan Hee (currently playing Nam Sang Mi’s little sister in Invincible Lee Pyung Kang).
It’s the small, faithful group who followed Robbers during its airing, which then made its way over to lead the core group Chunojummas/Chunoholics. 8)

Another one you might like is Tazza, adapted from the manhwa. JH was good in this, but Kim Min Joon was better. Again, a great supporting cast – Son Hyun Joo, Kim Gab Soo, Kang Sung Yun. Unfortunately, Han Ye Seul was rather flat.

  126. @123, cingdoc, i think i know which Tony Leung you probably forget/confused with, i think it’s the one playing twin effect 2, am i right??

@langdon813, thank you for the new moon spoiler, although i don’t really like twilight, but i recognize Taylor as the cutie in cheaper by the dozen 2, well i don’t really like his hair in twilight, but i’m smitten by that cute little boy on CbtD2, and he’s not legal??!!!
maybe when i watched new moon i have to be prepared to chant “He’s NOT legal, he’s NOT legal, he’s NOT legal…”

  127. @ockoala
uhhh….sweetheart, can you clarify whom did I “mine”?? Mrs. Ji….oh, you mean Ji Jin Hee…pig rabbit me, how can forget my “ahjussi”??? Sorry, I was still on JGS’s frequency ( although when I THOUGHT you meant to say Mrs. Jang, I almost went ewwww, that’s toooo ICOMYM even for me. I think he can be at age dating my oldest one ( not that I would allow that!). Anyhoo, sorry about my lack of Centrum Silver moment there. I adore all my manrem, so I lose track who they are… he he ;)

  128. @126 bbm
On the internet site I mentioned earlier, they put down the lead actor of Red Cliff as Tony Leung Kar Fai instead of Leung Chiu Wei

    @hjkomo
Well, what is the verdict? This is from my post (#101) Is our Samsooki comparable with his KJH?? I know I can trust you with your answer, my Cal sis….

  129. Hi Everyone! I’m back from internet purgatory. I was stuck someplace where we had to pay for our internet access. US$3 for an hour, and I made that last the whole five days by saving drafts of e-mails and then sending and receiving on-mass, in 5 min bursts twice a day — so not much surfing or online watching was done.

    Ockoala,
I didn’t bring City Hall after all. I kind of need to focus, when I’m travelling for work, so I decided I didn’t need another distraction. I was distracted enough thinking about and anticipating YB! Am off again tomorrow, but not bringing City Hall either. Think I’ll save it up for my Dec/x’mas treat.

    Red Cliff

    - I watched the full Asian Part 1 version. And I have to say I found it draggy, and wondered whether I should have been less of a culture snob and just waited for the edited-down western-release version. I found it rather self-indulgent. I only really perked up whenever Takeshi appeared on screen. His casting gave me one twinge, though: The most brilliant strategic mind of the time, Zhuge Liang, is also the most drop-dead gorgeous man on the planet? Somehow it doesn’t seem fair… But then, the gods have been rather over-generous in real life too. A charismatic and good-looking actor who is fluent in both Mandarin and Japanese – how unfair is that?!

    @56 Jtinma

Hero! (the J-drama; not the Chinese movie). I recently watched that too. Good, eh?

There’s just something about Kimura Takuya. I can’t take my eyes off him. Now, to be honest, his acting is just ok. Not bad, but not awesome either. He tends to play the same characters over and over again. Yet I find him so compelling. I guess it’s the 2 C’s – Charm and Charisma.

    @ BellaMafia

I couldn’t get past an episode of Atashinchi no Danshi either. Personally I would classify it as “too stupid to watch”. I find J-dramas very varied. They can range from embarrassingly stupid to sublime. My favourite is probably one of the very first I watched: “Nobuta wo Produce” or “Producing Nobuta” – for a high school drama it is surprisingly thoughtful, quirky, touching and unexpected. I’ve also recently enjoyed “Engine” – another Kimura Takuya vehicle: I’d normally avoid a “heart-warming” drama populated by cute kids with a ten-foot barge poll, but it *really* was heart-warming in an authentic way. And funny. “Love Shuffle” is another I enjoyed recently – love relationships, from a surprisingly adult point of view.

    @ 68 nea:notoriousnoona

Tokyo Dogs – Much as I like both actors, sadly, I think this J-drama is falling into the “too dumb to watch” category for me. Not sure why. It’s not as if I don’t watch over-the-top exaggeratedly comic J-dramas – why, I got through and somewhat enjoyed *both* Gokusen I AND II. But somehow this one doesn’t float my boat. It’s just a personal preference thing, and maybe I’m just not in the mood.

  130. @hjkomo
I totally agree with you about changing the BRA (Baby Rain’s Aunties) into something else…a @_@ moment just cross my mind: as I stated earlier about how I can wear something to ID you guys ( ICOMYM for @langdon, Cal shirt for you, etc) I don’t think I can wear any button on my shirt that says BRA…total “L” on the forehead….definitely have to change the name……have to get back with you about that …

  131. On Air is officially the most insanely meta drama I have ever watched. Kim Ha-neul is deciding between 2 dramas to star in:

    1. Ticket to the Moon – family melodrama love triangle between a neuro surgeon, a mentally retarded slow girl, and the girl’s older sister. KHN is playing the retarded heroine – it’s to be her acting breakthrough opportunity. This drama is written by Song Yoon-a and directed by Park Yon-ha.

    2. Diver of the Deep – the biggest budgeted ever 50 episode fusion saguek where KHN encounters creatures of the deep, rescues a kidnapped prince, has am underwater castle.

Like the air supply scene with Chundarella, this was all in tonights episode, including a scene with KHN read the Moon script and tries acting retarded. Just the funniest stuff ever.

  132. I typed the last email on my phone – I needed to capture the scene as it happened lest I leave out a detail. Best of all – Kang Hye-jung guest starred in this episode of On Air has herself, and declined the role of the mentally challenged heroine becuase she doesn’t want to be type-cast!

On Air has not a single likeable character – but damn if it isn’t poking so much fun at itself I chuckle at its charm.

As for the BRA group – change it to whatever……just let me know so I can declare my membership and renew annually.

  133. @ ockoala

The OT and Chunojummas’ sisterhood transcends school rivalries. :D
Come on…if I can overlook it in my own husband, I can certainly not let it come between us. Plus, I’ve already lived through the Dark Ages of the Axe’s residency down at The Farm for all those pre-Tedford years. ;)

(Funny Thing – The Big Game is down at Stanford this year, and we’re having lunch at a Haas alumni friend of hubby’s….but hubby suggested we go watch the game at a bar with a bunch of his Cal friends afterwards.
Now, if I can only keep him from wearing his Stanford shirt…hehe)

    @ Taohua

I’m one of the few who finds YB entertaining…but not crack….so the last few episodes haven’t really changed my opinion of the drama.

You will always be welcome on Team Park Kyu, whenever you choose to watch it.
The director’s cut dvd will be out in December (sans subs most likely), but if you watch the shorter version first, there’ll just be that much more Tamna to savour. ;)

I heard Noona was pretty good, but I haven’t watched it.

    @ cingdoc

I would gladly wear my Cal attire and yell out, “Mang-ah-ji!” (Pony) to find you in a crowded, public place. Anything for my Cal sis! :D

As for Samsooki being comparable to KJH….I wouldn’t know. I’ve only seen pics of adorable Ji Hoon (and I presumed he took after his beautiful Mommy).
    If I had to make a guess….I’d say….NO? o_O

  134. @cingdoc, Aww… oh well… hopefully other people visiting that site didn’t go O_o when reading the cast list… :P

so, Chuno, nice stills, but i really have to see the first two episodes before i join the chunoholic (or chunojumma??) bandwagon…
idk, maybe i haven’t quite found the right drama, but Oh Ji Ho’s acting always looked stiff to me…

  135. @Auntie Mame & hjkomo
“For Jang Hyuk, try “Robbers/Con Man” or the movie, “Windstruck”. I think he had a stronger presence in those roles than in “Thank You”.”

I should clarify a little. For me “Thank You” wasn’t good because of Jang Hyuk, though I actually thought he did a good job compared to some of his other roles, but what made the show great for me was the story, pace and everyone’s else’s acting. I love how uplifting and hopeful the story is even though its about AIDs. I also like how Blue Island is this magical place that is far away from the bustle of the city and the characters who go there are changed. For me the island reminded me of “Where the Wild Things Are” and this was well before Spike Jone’s movie. Also totally agree about Shin Sung Rok’s character being more interesting and multi-layered. If I were an actor I would have chosen his role instead of Dr Min. I loved Shin Goo and Gong Hyo Jin’s acting. They actually made the show for me but both are consistently great in everything I’ve ever seen them in. Her character might be annoying but it was right for the story.

I actually did see Windstruck and I can’t hardly remember much except Jang Hyuk dies and comes back as a wind and she plays a cops. That is how little impact the movie had on me. I also saw several episodes of Tazza as well and the drama was ok but apparently not enough for me to finish it. BTW watching Han Yesul act makes me realize how Fantasy couple just suited her acting to a “T” because she was been pretty awful in everything else I’ve seen her in.

Thanks yvhsien. I’m feeling better already. In my PJ’s and rewatching YB ep 13 and 14 with subs.

  136. @hjkomo
OMG…am I brain dead ( more than usual) today??? Not until I read the post between you and @ockoala, and about your Hubby’s shirt, that the (very dimmed) lightbulb of mine went “oooohhhh , the BIG GAME” . I guess that’s what happened when I spent too much time at work posting/reading OT…. ;)

About Hubby wearing his Stanford shirt among Cal people- not a good idea…he might end up being naked- from people shredding his shirt off by pieces.

About Samsooki- I totally agree with you, cutie pie Ji Hoon definitely got Mommy’s good gene… he he ;) I imagine Samsooki looks like ….Binnie ??? @_@ never mind…. Samsooki just looks like Samsooki, whatever that is…

    @nycgrl
I’m sooo sorry, didn’t mean to forget to ask if you’re feeling better….rest and drink a lot of clear fluids. After you have recovered, take a lot of vit C (either with fruits.veggies or pills)

  137. Late to the party again! Spent the day doing housework! Company’s coming for Thanksgiving and my house was a mess. Watching dramas always beats out housework but couldn’t avoid it in the end . So today I made good on all those promises of giving the place a good clean. My dogs looked at me like I’d taken leave of my senses when drapes came down and they were banished to the yard while I shampooed the rug!
This week I have not watch any Kdramas! I have, however, watched “Cranford” and “North and South” and loved them both. I do have to say not as much as I love “Pride and Prejudice”, Colin Firth still wins in the tall, dark and handsome category. He lives just down the street from my brother so when I was visiting recently I took a couple of strolls by his house but no signs of life. It wasn’t stalking, I had to go that way to get to the tube station! Anyway, thanks to those of you who raved about N&S awhile back.
May start to watch YB this week as it’s nearing it’s finale and I want to see what all the fuss is about!
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you in the US. Have a great weekend everyone!

  138. Oh dear. What is the official age difference to qualify for ICOMYM? Because
I called mine on Kim Rae Won, and while I’m much older, I’m not old enough to be his mother. So, much younger….but HOW much younger? And he’s definitely legal, but I’m clearly headed into cougar territory on that one. (same with most of the hotties on QSD, I now note)

If I wore a ICOMYM shirt to my usual haunts, it would seriously confuse people. While the k-drama section of my usual little corner of the on-line world is one of the smaller sections, at least we HAVE one. But then, my Princess Bride t-shirt caused much confusion among the non-geeks I know, so perhaps my worlds shouldn’t collide that starkly.

BTW, my niece, when confronted with YB last week, ADORED the guyliner on TK. But then, she’s a GreenDay fan, so guyliner is a good thing for her. She is also a teenager who knows her k-dramas and was easily sucked into the YB world.

  139. @ockoala

“Ticket to the Moon – family melodrama love triangle between a neuro surgeon, a mentally retarded slow girl, and the girl’s older sister. KHN is playing the retarded heroine – it’s to be her acting breakthrough opportunity. ”

Haha I’m reading this and I’m thinking of the movie “Tropic of Thunder” when Robert Downey’s character is critiquing Ben Stiller’s supposed breakthrough role playing a mentally challenged young man, “You went full retard”.

I’m almost embarrassed to admit this but I didn’t even know what “Twilight” was until a week ago when my niece informed me. I remember a couple of years ago I asked her what a Hannah Montana is and she gave me an eye roll. Seriously there are some cultural reference points if you aren’t that age or have kids that age that can totally sail you by.

  140. @Samsooki – please continue to watch Thank You. It has a lot of heart, and the story only takes off from ep. 3 (just like City Hall only took off from ep. 4). I fell asleep watching Robbers, and used the f/f often. Was quite disappointed in this series because it under-utilized JH and LDH’s acting skills. I jumped into Story of a Bright Girl after Thank You because of JH lurve, but couldn’t get pass ep. 1. JH was shouting too much. But will finish this series sometime, though.

@ hjkomo, thanks for that one line mentioning how you like KMJ better than JH in Tazza. When two of my favorite stars are in Tazza, it’s a bonus. But to hear that KMJ is better than JH when I always thought JH is a better actor, now, that is a double bonus! Will put Tazza at the top of my To Watch list (together with Friend, Our Legend).

@ Dele, I like GLEE, too. At first, I didn’t, because the plot lines were incredible/foolish, and there were hints of oncoming adultery. But the musical and comedy aspects totally won me over. Yes, Kurt is also my guy (gal?). I even managed to persuade my 12 year old and hubby to watch, so now it’s a family affair. The two just won’t latch onto my drama addiction.

@ reluctantbutaddicted: thanks for the Hindi movie recommendations. I used to love them when I was in primary school. Now once a while I would like to watch one. My last two were Kal ho na ho and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai months ago. A little bit late, but better late than never. Could you perhaps recommend a great Hindi movie/Bollywood download site? Trying to find a Hindi movie in Perth is as easy as finding snow in summer.

@Anh, welcome to JIN! I’m still following it weekly, and the love hasn’t waned, unlike for YB…

I’m all prepared to fall off the YB bandwagon. Perhaps it’s due to exhaustion jostling in the past few weeks for space and time in the various forums or download sites. I may be an honorary member of the ICOMYM, but screaming teenager-with-fainting fits I am not. As such, I haven’t watched the latest subbed ep (14) on vikii, although I have watched it raw, and read the recap/summary at JB and at Soompi. That’s as far as my addiction has gone this week. Unlike previous weeks when I contributed to the crashes at JB, aja-aja, Vikii and Soompi, this week, I was sane enough to back off from “peak hours”. Maybe my waning interest could also be due to what I think is a predictable ending as per My Girl. I even guessed correctly that the breakup between MN and TK would happen at the end of ep. 14. So now I think TK will find out about his mistake in the second half of ep. 15. Thereafter, the rest of the ep would focus on finding MN, who has left (gone to Japan?). Probably we’ll get reconciliation and a final kiss in the last 10 minutes. Curtains fall.

  141. @ cingdoc
“I’m sooo sorry, didn’t mean to forget to ask if you’re feeling better….rest and drink a lot of clear fluids. After you have recovered, take a lot of vit C (either with fruits.veggies or pills)”

No worries, you can wish me well next week when I’m sick again. The way things are going I’m not going to get better anytime soon in this year. Since mid-October I’ve had Cold, Strep throat, Flu, 24 hr stomach bug and now another cold see its recycling. I know this is sick to say but the only good thing is I’ve lost 10 lbs from being so sick.

  142. HI VIEWERS !!

Weekend once more. Try watching japanese drama – Real Clothes,

    quite interesting.

  143. @ nycgrl

Ahem…I was guarded in my Han Ye Seul-Tazza critique…but I guess it’s now safe to say that I wished {SEMI-SPOILER} that Nan Sook had been at the receiving end of a certain bullet. She was supposed to be Goni’s great love, but they had almost zero chemistry. *sigh*

Should I watch Fantasy Couple? Will it help alleviate my skepticism of Oh Ji Ho’s acting? He’s the unknown factor for Chuno…and I’m putting my trust in PD Kwak Jung Hwan.
He must’ve seen something in OJH, right?

    @ nycgrl
“Seriously there are some cultural reference points if you aren’t that age or have kids that age that can totally sail you by.”

Hey, until YB 9, I didn’t know what pogs were. :P
But I do know the lyrics to the Wonderpets theme song.

    @ rambutan

If you’re looking for an older JH drama, try Into The Sunlight.
Brooding, chip-on-shoulder, young Jang Hyuk softened by his pure love for Kim Ha Neul. :D

JH has talent, but he hasn’t quite been able to reach his full potential, yet.
PD Kwak may just be the one to help him do it.

    @ momosan

I think anything that’s in cougar territory would be considered ICOMYM-worthy.

What did your Princess Bride shirt say?
    As You Wish.
Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.

    or R.O.U.S.
    :P

    Is anyone watching Modern Family?
Ed Norton’s cameo as a member of Spandau Ballet this week was hilarious.

  144. @nycgrl
    ok… I will give you a quick screening…
Where do you live? NY??(don’t laugh because our @lovenyc52 lives in So Cal)
Are you still in school where it’s germ city galore?
Are you around a lot of kids??
You shouldn’t be sick that often…losing weight is one thing, but you need to find out the underlying causes…maybe, there’s something in your work/school/home that keeping you from being fully recovered. Are you returning to work/school too soon? Did you wipe all surfaces down at home/work after you are well? I even wash all my beddings with hot water and bleach afterward… Please be careful, this year we have a double whammies- regular influenze and the Swine Flu. My SECRET WEAPON…..wash your hand often and long….as soon as you can after you touch a publicly used door knobs …wash the hand long enough for you to hum Happy birthday twice…Take care….

I better go to sleep… first a Oscar length of speech and now a public announcement…

    @Ringtones
Jackpot!!!! When my 16 yo was trying to tell me why she just bought another pair of have to have skinny jeans, I swooped up the opportunity and asked her if she can help me with JB’s ringtones. Within 2 min, I kid you guys not, she d/l and e mailed the ringtones (all 3 YB songs!!!)to my Verizon phone…so, @Samsooki, when (and if ) you call me, it will play “…..I will promise you….” loudly … he he ;) And, unlike you, I will not drop my phone…at least not intentionally ;)

    Goodnite you guys

  145. @hjkomo

    It was
My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die

    From ThinkGeek.
Cracked up my fellow geeks, totally confounded the non-geeks.
I dread to think what would have happened if I had worn my
“You never forget your first Doctor” Who shirt.

Oddly, the reverse problem never happens – the sheep and wool festival shirts never seem to bother the geeks at all, they seem to find it a perfectly acceptably odd hobby to be fibery.

Ah well, clearly if cougarhood is the criteria, then I’m in trouble here. Am I allowed to call mine AND be in ICOMYM with the same guy?

    @cingdoc

Can I borrow your 16 year old? I tried emailing to my phone and all I got was a message that an mp3 was not an acceptable attachment to download. Grill the kid mercilessly for me. I was picking it up off my yahoo account via mobile web, as I don’t have email that I know of on the phone. Perhaps that was the problem. I was trying to get Shinee’s ringdingdong on there – that would be endlessly amusing. I can rip the ringtones easily enough, it’s getting them on the phone that is killing me.

  146. Just wanted to share a randomly awesome website that might just make u ppl smile.
    http://1000awesomethings.com/

@72 ockoala -Thanks for the trivia about Autumn’s Concerto /Next Stop,Happiness.Always wondered about the weird names of some dramas.:-)
And Autumn’s Concerto : Almost had a red-faced moment , cause I didn’t know that concerto is pronounced as con’ch’erto. Thank God I recommended the drama to ppl through writing only so far. :-S

@54 nycgrl – Keep a tissue box ready when you do decide to watch it.:-)

@35 Cathie-AC is pretty good:-)YB is equivalent to chocolate ice cream and AC is like ‘Van’illa ice cream;-)

@80 reluctantbutaddicted – Rock On is almost like the Korean movie ‘Happy life’ .Jang Geun-seok really rocks in that one:-) He’s so good at playing a ‘bad’ boy:-)

  147. @Ana: 1000 awesome things! Awesome! Many of those things are things to be thankful for ;) I’m horribly segueing to a Happy Thanksgiving to all of you who celebrate it this coming week. As every year since the tender age of 10, I refuse to eat Turkey on Thanksgiving. It’s just a thing (still a rabid meat eater on other days :( )

Anyone want to drink a delicious refreshing Tofurkey Jones soda with me? (crickets)

So Yuko Takeuchi was on Flash Forward? THAT Yuko Takeuchi? BRB need to watch that.

I got up way too early this Saturday morning all because of you know what. Stop being so awesome Smile, You. Just…..stop. You’re too good to me. Picking a favorite scene from last weeks episodes is hard, but I like to rewatch the double-header scene (two story lines at once! Sunday, Sunday, Sunday) with Han-sae and Hyun-soo at the food cart.. annnnndddd Sung Joon is getting into an “altercation” again. This is why the Seo family can’t have nice things. Next time I want to see a fight near a fountain, or in the middle of a market, or at least someone jumping into a tree. (Arrested Development reference) ;D

Lastly, I am now more frequently watching 1000x Loving You. Off and On. On during the good parts.

  148. @ockoala somewhere above.

Please let me know if you succeed uploading JB’s ringtunesonto your Iphones. I thought only ones you can import to the darn phone is the ones you’ve purchased from itune store(which was soooo disappointing to me since I’d already had Kiss the baby sky tune ready to be transfered ). I’d love to have them on my phone.

    @140 rambutan, @124 ockoala , @ Taohua

I agree with you all. I still love and adore YB, but it’ falling into that predictable Kdrama plot thing and it’ a bit disappointing.

    @121 Anh

Yep, I love Jin, It’s a solid production with solid everything. For this, I usually download the raw HD versions onto my hard drive so that I can have my grand TV viewing experience. Except that I’m in Japan now and I’ll be able to watch it on real time TV tomorrow!

    @142 Queen Sophia

Real clothes was recommended by my sis. and finally watched the first 6 episodes on pandra.tv right before I left home to come here. It’s surprisingly good.

and I lobe bothTony Leung. They are both Charismatic.

I don’t know why, it seems like my brother’s computer doesn’t have a spell chack function. Is it becasue it’s a Japanese computer?

  149. @javabeans

Thank you so much for the ringtones! I love you! I use JGS’ Without Words for my phone’s ringtone now.

But I am getting greedy. Can I have the ringtone for “Goodbye” as well?

  150. @ 108 ockoala

Damn. CSW has a 20 year old son! I didn’t expect that. And his daughter looks adorable too.

The version I watched was the one that the BON fansubs did so it had all the important sequences in the credits. I LOL at SMR w****** dress. I just thought … man, is she for real? But they both looked so cute and HOT together that it didn’t matter.

And the last scene where SMR is in the audience and gets caught … LOL … honey, run, run, run … awwwww

So, what should I watch next? It’s wet and dreary outside so perfect weather for another kdrama marathon.

  151. @ langdon813

Silly me…how could I have left out an important detail which may affect your choice of JH drama to watch?

Thank You – Gratuitous shower scene. Check.

Tazza – Gratuitous shirtless workout scene in prison yard. Check.

Robbers – Shirtless Jang Hyuk flexing his muscles, including one-thumbed push-ups, while verbally wiping the floor with his love rival – not gratuitous at all…extremely relevant to the story. CHECK. ;)

  152. @129 serendipity
You are totally right! If I really think about it I am not so sure why I love Kimura Takuya drama so much… but I do. I haven’t tackled “Engine” yet, for precisely the reason you stated but after reading what you said I’ll probably give it a try. I watched “Hero”(J-movie) last night with Kimura Takuya and yap it was great. I wish there was a little more romance… but wait I forgot I was watching a J-show so silly me for wishing that.

I think it is quite interesting that I have different reactions to J-drama, K-dram and T-drama.
J-drama: I have to be in a somewhat silly and ready to think a bit sort of mood for. They are generally not too addicting but something about J-actors that sometimes just make a totally fangirl out of me. ie. Kimura

K-Drama: In the mood for total immersion. A really good k-drama can consume my life until… well, until I finish the series. I have favorite actors but I don’t usually go all fangirl on them.

T-Drama: When I can find a good one I enjoy it for the fun of it and I am not usually too engaged emotionally so I don’t get addicted to T-drama… yet. I have actors I like but I haven’t found one yet that I am gooey eyed over yet. (Granted, I haven’t watch the shower scene in Autumn Concerto yet.)

Does anyone else see a distinction in their reaction to dramas produced by different country?

  153. Okay…I seriously LOOOOOVE this song!!!

  154. totally enjoying the discussion re: how young is too young? i read one definition @ Urban Dictionary: “divide by 2 add 7.” IOW divide your own age into 2 and add 7 years. go do the math, dear DB friends swooning over gorgeous young asian men… believe me, i was gasping a few times at my own “cut off.”

happy weekend, all! Go, Cal! ^^

  155. do you actualy belive that i did the math. yahoo I can droll over all the young actors without feeling wierd and having no guilt.

  156. he he…my hubby knew how much I love bringing the laptop to work , and he actually packed and loaded it to the car for me…I am busy today, but now sneaking here during my brief lunch break….

    @145 momosan
I just got lucky with the 16yo. As I said, she needed something from Mom, hence willing to help me. She’s at the SAT class right now while I’m at work…later on, about 4pm PST she’ll be here , and I will ask her to type in the “how to” for those of US( me definitely) who are not computer/tech savvy, so that you guys can also have the ringtones, all THANKS to our kdramaland Queen JB ;)

  157. @62 lovenyc52 – thanks for the input! hmm.. i’ve been watching less of TW dramas but maybe AC will change that.. :D

@146 Ana – YB is equivalent to chocolate ice cream and AC is like ‘Van’illa ice cream;-)

i love the ice cream metaphor! can’t wait to watch AC now! hopefully right after YB and impending thesis work.. :P

@152 jtinma – i totally agree with you on the different reactions..
i think because of the short time frame for jdramas (i.e. average of 11 episodes ) you really don’t get the chance to get addicted..

kdramas are a whole different story especially if i love one or more aspects of it (i.e. actors/actresses, characters, story/plot line).. i get so immersed that i kinda get sad when i finish.. i sometimes watch my favorite scenes over and over during my withdrawal stage or until i start a new series..

tw dramas i haven’t watched in a while.. they’re kinda lovable because of the cliches but sometimes i just don’t buy it anymore.. they can get dragging.. plus sometimes the plot just goes crazy towards the end..

  158. @145 momosan RINGTONES
this is the 16 year old of cingdoc :D
this is how i downloaded it (2 VERY LONG STEPS):
    1. download it from the link (mediafire i think it was?) and when it says open or save, CLICK SAVE (i HIGHLY reccomend placing it in a folder than you can easily refer back to and putting it under a name you will remember; hint hint, you’re gonna need this information later)
    2. go to your email and for the To:, put your phone’s address (it’s usually all 10 digits of your number including the area code @vtext.com, but to be sure, send a picture message to your email [put your email address where you usually put the number you want to send the message to; it should come within 10 minutes and doesnt cost anything, so don't worry about that either]) then attach it to the email (this is where you have to find it again xD) send it off and hope to god it’s not too big!!! that is usually a problem for me when i send stuff as well. just because the first two songs worked for my mom, doesn’t necessarily mean that it will work for yours as well. good luck!!! ^_^

    …got it guys???….she didn’t learn it from me :)

  159. @ ockoala

Beverly Soon dooboo (tofu) is on Olympic and New Hampshire. There’s always a long line, so it’s good to get there a little early, if you can.. =)

Not sure if you’re Korean, but if you are and you like dduk bok ggi, you should try Chamchamcham at the food court at Galleria. and i like the jjajangmyun at K-town Plaza. Not only is it good, but they give you a lot. =)

  160. @paula253 -
No fair! KRW is just barely under that cut off! So, I guess it’s off to the ICOMYM club for me. Sigh. I knew that was cutting it close. Well, at least it’s seems to be a fairly lively club to be in! LOL!

On the jdrama/kdrama/twdrama preferences – oddly, for someone named momosan – and yes, that is my real nickname – I tend to prefer kdramas, even when they are remakes of jdramas that I have seen. A notable exception was Honjitsu no Mare, ijo Nashi. I saw that earlier this year and loved it. So, I enjoy some jdramas, but find more kdramas that I like.

I have to be in the right mood to watch a jdrama like Hana Kimi or Nodame Cantabile. And I’ll fess up to enjoying BOF as much, if not a tad more, as Hana Yori Dango. Strangely, my Dad and I were talking about this very subject this afternoon, with him preferring the jdramas. Heck, he has NHK tuned in most of the day. And yet, he’s glued to the set for QSD twice a week as well!

  161. OMO OMO Episode 17 of Smile, You is AWESOME! The ending scene *SQUEE*

I have loved every single episode since episode 10. It just keeps getting better and better. Now I’m kind of worried about the extension, because right now the pacing is perfect and I don’t want them to mess that up. In so many ways, I’m glad that there aren’t misunderstandings over love…can I say I just want a Hyun-soo in my life? Seriously, this drama is so refreshing and the important misunderstandings are kept mostly to nil (referring to the main couple…if the parents misunderstand…I have a feeling they will be indirectly just setting up Hyun-soo and Jung-in to get closer). And Lee Min-jung really shines in the quiet moments. And Jung-in is probably one of my favorite female characters, I love the fact that she stands up for things she cares about. And I love the fact that both Hyun-soo and Jung-in are straightforward with their feelings!

I know I keep saying this, but Jung Kyung-ho and Lee Min-jung have amazing chemistry. When I see them onscreen, I’m always like…”so that’s what being in love must feel/look like.” It’s great when the chemistry b/t the leads is so intense that there doesn’t need to be music or long camera pauses on moments, because every moment they are together, their feelings blast across the screen even with the subtlest looks ::sigh:: They are absolutely cute! Can’t wait for tomorrow’s episode!

  162. ACK! Posted at the same time as cingdoc! Thanks!

Thanks so much cingdoc daughter! I think that will work, apparently you can’t just email to any account the phone can see, but it has to be that specific one.

    Domo Arigato!

  163. Thinking about…love might be a strong word…I have liked every episode since ep. 10, but have LOVED all the scenes where Hyun-soo and Jung-in are together.

  164. @momosan,

don’t kill the messenger ^^. actually this is the formula for not DATING someone. i think the formula for not drooling, swooning, calling yourself mrs. ____ on DB is waaaay different hehehehe

yeah, you have LOTS of company. :) )

  165. @161

Really Really Really? Of course what am I asking. I’m so excited. Just got of work can’t wait to see Smile,You. I wish wish wish that I understand Korean. I was trying to stay away so the subber can work. I’m so tempted to go watch raw. Ahhhh. lol

  166. Go Bears. The Axe is ours.

  167. once again, so much stuff to respond to!! here we go. hope this posts…

@ ockoala – ok, Your Tears it is!! is there a certain section of the song you like or do you want a 4 minute ringtone?! haha… also, not sure how to send it to you because i don’t have a megaupload account or anything. if there is a certain section you particularly like, just break it down into the minute:second range and i can do it for ya :) and… Mrs. TOP?? yes please. yes yes yes please!!!! oh yea, did i say YES PLEASE?!?! yum.

@ cingdoc – i was telling him the exact same thing about not being able to compare JGS and GY!! totally different characters, different stories, everything!! but as MNIKSS and CP are his favorite dramas i can see him tryin to compare to see if they are as good as those two. The fact that he is watching it and is pretty caught up is already a wow factor for me. And i understand the guyliner thing – i think it’s hot on TK cuz it accentuates his already intense eyes, but it is an acquired taste for sure hehe. Also, BCD is ok, but i prefer Koba Tofu & Grill on Culver and Walnut (in the plaza where Ralphs, CVS and Coldstone is).

@ Auntie Mame – i love your name!! That was one of my favorite movies when I was little – would always watch it with my mom when it played on the weekends :)

@ simplesim – Team Park Kyu darling baby gets to be carried by PK?? sweet, i’m totally for that. As for how TK says ‘Go Mi Nam’, i adore it!! He says it so endearing and with purpose hehe.. Kind of hard to explain but I’m sure you understand the feeling behind it like i do!! And trust, i am very sad about the random white hairs i’ve been finding. My mom only recently starting getting them so what does it say when i’m not even 29 yet and some are GROWING OUT white?!?!? i must start taking deep breaths and try not to argue with guys about the wonderful emoting of YB hehe.

@ langdon813 – i saw New Moon last night as well!! i kind of dreaded going on opening night because of all the crazy scary twihards that would be there, but it was entertaining. This movie was much better than Twilight mainly because of Mr. Underage’s acting – definitely superior to Kristen and Rob’s. During the whipping off of the shirt scene i totally blurted out ‘holla!!!’ (very unintentionally) and my two friends were like, ‘OMG’ and could not stop laughing at me. Hey, i’m a member of ICOMYM, what else did they expect?!?! There were many ‘awwwwwwww’s’ and massive sighs during the beyond-cheesy scenes, and everytime that happened or when Edward glittered, i could not stop laughing. Entertaining stuff.

@ bbm – re: Taylor as the cutie in cheaper by the dozen 2. HAHA i just had this conversation with one of my girlfriends today. I was telling her that back when i first watched that movie, my thought was ‘hrm, that elliot kid is gonna be a real cutie when he grows up!’.. and he is allllll growed up now. oh and btw, he cuts his hair and that’s when you start chanting “He’s NOT legal, he’s NOT legal, he’s NOT legal….”

@ momosan – “What is the official age difference to quality for ICOMYM?” I asked the same question you did in a previous post and the answer i received was ‘if you feel pervy about it, it qualifies…’ :) So for me personally, it’s anyone under 24, because 4+ years is still quite a bit for me. but i guess according to urban dictionary it’s 21… either way, many of my manrem fit in that range.. and welcome to ICOMYM hehe. btw, i love the Princess Bride and your shirt ROCKS.

@ nycgrl – i’m sorry you’ve been feeling so sick. I can still remember when i got strept throat back in February and it was the worst feeling ever. Not only did my throat hurt, my entire head felt like it was going to explode, my whole body ached like crazy and i was hot and cold all the time… and all I wanted was to be at my parent’s house with my mom and her chicken soup. I really hope you feel better soon!!!!!

@ paula253 – wow, that’s the formula for how young you can date?? that’s…. pretty young lol. and you’re so right – DB formula of who you can drool, swoon, and go by Mrs. ____ is vastly different LOL!!

*crossing my fingers that this posts!!*

  168. WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    The Axe stays in Berkeley!!!!!
    Final score:
    Cal 34
    Stanford 28
    :D

Hubby is sulking….and has nearly gone deaf from my screams. 8)

  169. Dear Pac 10,

    Suck it.

    Love,
    Cal

  170. Its the week of Thanksgiving.

So I would like to start by saying…Happy Thanksgiving!

I am thankful I found dramabeans…the commentary and stuff is great!
I am thankful I found Kdramas….a total addiction for the last year and a half!

crzypl and ockoala I agree with the City Hall comments….
and ockoala I am a So Cal girl myself….out in the IE…

Cingdoc .Korean Manren…I love it….I have crushes all over the place!
reluctant addict that is a great list you have there….I have watched most and now
will go and watch others recommended…watching JOSH as I write this…one of the few Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai pairings..only they are brother and sister in this one….not bad.

Thanks to you all my list to watch has grown again ! and again! I love it….

    belleza..LOL

Oh! Love Van Ness! will be starting AC soon…

  171. See….THIS is why I should never leave home (or Dramabeans) EVER EVER again. Look at all the great posts I missed (especially hjkomo…THANK YOU MY FRIEND, for the link, because I really needed it after today. And yes, I will be starting Robbers immediately. Right after this post, in fact).

I got up at a ridiculous hour this morning to go Christmas shopping, which as some of you know I’m absolutely not in the mood for yet. So I was heading to Memphis when I had a BLOWOUT. Oh yeah. Tire blew at about 70 miles an hour. THAT was fun! Husband is out of town, oldest son lives 2 hours away, youngest son is 45 miles away but sound asleep (and probably hung over), but I called him anyway and he got to me in record time. Sadly, I am one of those women who can’t change a tire. I can put gas in it, I can check the oil, I can even put wiper fluid in but I refuse to try to change a tire on this vehicle when the tires are bigger than I am! So finally off I go, about 2 hours behind schedule. And yes, I had a schedule. These dramas won’t watch themselves, am I right?

So anyway, I did manage to make a big dent in my shopping list and I sort of snuck in a few things for myself, Not much though, just a new purse, some great shoes (just 1 pair, honest), a couple of sweaters, a scarf…and I think that’s it. Like I said, not much. :-D

Oh yes, lest I forget…OLE MISS DEFEATS LSU! CAN I GET A HELL YEAH AND A HODDY TODDY??

    Welcome to my world, y’all:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?page=sec/olemiss

  172. Dear Cal OT-sisters:

    Congrats on a deserved victory.

I am only sleeping comfortably tonight because the Ducks won and the Pac 10 is theirs and hubby is not around to annoy me.

Finally I’m ready to give Smile another chance!

  173. Sorry for the clipped comment above (that was a comment by phone), I’m totally not pissed Stanford lost, Gerhart can’t carry an entire team, and the Good Cal showed up today, so it was in the end a good game.

I’m exhausted since it’s still me and the 2 ockoala babies all day, all the time. It’s like a marathon but for 14 hours. As I was munching on bread this morning, everytime people looked at me, I’m all like “what, do you think I’m some koala you may know?”

And this twenty-something girl wearing a “I Love NYC” t-shirt showed up, and I thought no way lovenyc52 did get up 4 hours earlier just to eat bread with me – and I was right, it was another NYC lover.

langdon-unni – thank heavens you didn’t get hurt in the tire blowout! Once happened to me on the carpool lane of the 405 freeway, with one baby in the backseat, one in my belly, a dog next to me, and I veered right across 5 lanes to get to the shoulder where I could park. All that was left was a tire rim, pieces of rubber all over the freeway, and pieces of my exploded heart in the car. I know God was looking out for me that day, cuz statistically I should have been hit by at least 10 cars which all magically missed me by inches. Anyways, I now change my tires early – may not get the most use out of them, but darn it, I’m not willing to take any chances.

Back to Smile, You – I hated with a vengeance the first 2 episodes, but have always always loved the potential of the lead pairing, and was just hoping Lee Min-jung would tone down her OTT acting. She’s got an expressive face, she needed to use more restraint rather than emoting more like other actresses, It seems like she’s done so, and the entire coupling has really taken off. Sounds totally promising, and I’m finally game to pick up where I left off. Hope to be a Smiler by a few weeks time!

  174. I know it’s late, but just back home ( went all the way to So Pasadena to cut /color my hair by my old girlfriend, and then a late supper with family)….I have a lot to answer:

    @momosan
Did 16 yo cingdoc help you? Did you get your ringtones? I just read what she has written , and I still went “uhhhh??? clueless as to what is needed to be done…but the kids do , and as long she d/l the songs for me, I thanked her.

    @hjkomo and belleza
The Trojan in my house just peeked out from the man’s cave and reported the news to me- YEAH Go Cal !!!!!! Sorry, ockoala

    @ockoala
lol on how you are so “aware” of us fellow OT sisters going to bump into you…lovenyc52 was sleeping in ,remember? Now, don’t forget, as for me, I am going to yell TEAM PARK KYU…wait, oh yeah…should have been (GMN) Don’t go where I can’t see you

    @langdon813
OMG…are you ok??I’m just glad nothing yucky happened to you. Could you have called AAA? Like @ockoala, I had a near miss, too. Thank God I was driving a German made car with “run flat” tire; other drivers around me was honking me, and I just kept driving(for another 10 min). By the time I realized what happened, I pulled off to the side. All this time I was driving with only the metal rim left- yikes.
    @ockoala
I agree with you.. You would be amazed how much our Guardian Angels and God protect us, unconditionally…

    @my hair cut
Well…my hubby didn’t like it because I cut about 4 to 5 inches off. But I really want a drastic change….imagine me went from KSS long hair to SMR(mayor’s version)…so now I look like SMR!!! Ok, Gookie, I’m here…mwah…lol

    @ockoala
When you see me, you would probably won’t “recognize” me…apparently I do not look “Chinese” to them…it does not help that my surname is not a common Chinese surname…whatever…

….too late to watch anything, so I better go to sleep…”Mr. Lance Armstrong” here is reminding me what time we have to get up to bike again…thingsthat I have to do to stay healthy( to avoid another attack and a trip to the hospital) For the rest of you, sleep in for me…Enjoy your Sunday ;)

  175. “.too late to watch anything, so I better go to sleep…”Mr. Lance Armstrong” here is reminding me what time we have to get up to bike again”

And this is why the American Marital Law gave us “Irreconcilable Differences.” Because this is truly Irreconcilable with me!! ;)

  176. @ langdon813 – thank goodness you’re alright!!!!! i can’t change a tire either. The first time i ever got a flat was pulling into my parents driveway on a stormy night and i took the turn too tight and clipped my wheel into one of the sharp-edged planters that line our walkway and POP! my dad was so mad that he made me sit there and read the manual and try to figure out how to jack up my car and change the tire. after several attempts in the rainy and dark night my mom finally convinced him to let us call AAA. I did get a flat on the freeway before too – horrifying. don’t know how i was able to make it off the freeway and into a gas station without killing my rims (or myself!). I really should learn how to change a tire… but isn’t that what AAA is for?!?!

@ ockoala – haha when you were munching happily on yummy bread i was dead to the world. i seriously did not wake up till right before noon :) my one rule for the weekends is: No alarms. that’s it. i sleep in until my body tells me to wake up. That’s why i try to not make plans for the mornings because otherwise i feel like i haven’t gotten my full rest (and then it feels like a workday. horror of horrors haha). Funnily, as much as i <3 NYC, i do not own a shirt that says that anymore hehe. i think i had them in college and my friend and i took them and cut them up to make them more trendy and fun and now… well now i don't wear cut up shirts haha. Maybe i'll drop by 85C tomorrow. I am kinda feeling like having some BBQ TeriQ Gold wings as well. I know, i'll head up to rowland and get a massage and some yummy stinky tofu :) so much food to eat, so little time LOL!! oh yea, have you decided if you want just a clip of Your Tears or the whole 4 minutes?

  177. @161 Taohua

so so so agree with everything you wrote about Smile, You! Perfectly expressed!!

Oh dear, I am becoming a Smile, You addict! Watched episode 17 raw (though I do not understand Korean at all) and had a silly grin plastered on my face the whole day!

  178. @ ockoala

Could I ask a favour? You mentioned a site for watching TW dramas in a previous OT. Would you mind providing the URL again please? I had a quick look from the last two OTs but got lost there. Want to check it our for watching the next AC episode – should be exciting as GX and MC meet again, not to mention the repeat of the sports car crashing bus scene!!

And what a pair of super dopey bright koalas you’ve got!! I was a geography major during undergrad days but didn’t think I could do the puzzle as quick as they did. How old are Cassidy and Jordan?

  179. I know I m a little late for Friday Thread but just want to get this out – I once walked past Tony Leung not knowing it was him. He was looking at me when we passed each other and I was very slow to realise many steps later that it was him and he looked back! I have no idea why he looked and still wondering!

Yeah, he is not a tall guy and the handsomest but his charisma on screen is really something.

  180. I’m YouTubing Jang Geun Seuk and if I didn’t know that he was an actor I would totally believe that he’s a singer, he even knows how to play the guitar “Hee Chul + Jang Geun Suk – Chan Ran Han Sarang” he’s an actor who could really sing.

Okay now I’m thinking of studying the Korean Language.

  181. Here at my mom’s house in Japan, my brother and I was talking about movies… Suddenly, Red cliff was mentioned!? Red cliff? The movie(s) everybody’s been talking about on DB this weekends!? Now, it got me so tatally curious. To start with I was already intrigued since TK and Tony Leung were mentioned and now my brother… and it actually is 三国志!I went ahead and reserved them on Netflix but they aren’t avilable yet. Where do you watch them?

Thank you everybody on OT threads, there are always great tips here for all sort of things in all different areas of one’s life. I don’t know what I’d do without this site. Thank you JB for providing us this place!

  182. @ 179 momosa

I am jealous that you walked past Tony Leung and he looked straight at you. I wish I could meet someone as cool as him one day … but then I always wonder what would I say to a star? “Hello. Nice to meet you.” That would be it. Star struck and lost for words. Not cool.

    @ langdon813

I hope you are OK after your tyre burst. Thankfully I have not had that happen to me but I can just imagine how scary it would be. And ockoala, for that to happen to you and the ockoala babies, thank goodness no one was harmed.

Sunday afternoon here in London. It has been raining all morning so I can’t be bothered getting out of my pjs to do anything useful.

Btw, what does ICOMYM stand for?

  183. @178, epyc

It’s early in SoCal so I thought I’d answer your question about the TDrama website on behalf of the sleeping ockoala:

    http://sugoideas.com/

    @181, celestialorigin

Try http://www.aznt.tv ; I believe Red Cliff (maybe both I and II, not sure though) is on there. You do have to download a player but it’s free.

    @ cingdoc, lovenyc152, crzycpl

I’m just fine! A little retail therapy goes a long way, hehe!

And crzycpl…ICOMYM stands for “Inappropriate Crushes On Much Younger Men”.

Do any of you guys use Yahoo for your home page? Ole Miss vs LSU is the lead story right now. Cracked me up.

  184. OOPS – @ celestialorigin

Typo – the above link won’t work, here’s the right one!

    http://aznv.tv/?p=login

  185. @ langdon813

Am glad to hear that you’re fine! And yes, of course, retail therapy fixes everything! :)

Ooooooohhhhh .. ICOMYM … hehehe … thanks for the clarification, langdon813. But if I follow paula253’s comment re divide by 2 and add 7, I think I’m safe for the most part :) Thank goodness! Although the cuteness that is Kim Bum makes me feel guilty as he is younger than my brother!

Here’s my random comment for the afternoon. I just realised that I’m missing series 7 of my Gilmore Girls DVD collection. Checked it out on Amazon and it’s $15 in the US whereas it is £25 here in the UK! WHAT THE?! You guys are so lucky to live in the States where everything is so much cheaper. I envy you all. I’m now going to have to wait until my trip to SF next May to get me a copy. *sigh* And here I was thinking I could do a Gilmore Girls marathon this week since the weather is so miserable outside.

  186. So I don’t know if any one is still reading the Open Thread, but i just wanted to get this out there…

because of all the Red Cliff mentions in here and all the praises that I’ve been reading, I decided to watch it because I was really intrigued by what people were saying about the actors’ eyes and the beautiful cinematography.

Anyhow, I watched the long version of it and I have to say I absolutely LOVED it. So thank you everyone for talking about it, or I would have *never* have watched the movie.

    It’s AWESOME. LOVED IT.

  187. @186, Chocolatetree (cool name)

Glad you liked it! Did you watch both I and II?

And the OT is like an Everlasting Gobstopper…it lasts from Friday until the next Friday when a new one shows up! :-)

  188. Been lurking here for a while now, i have not much to say but HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

now the holidays’ coming up, i’m thinking of buying a new Laptop. I’m debating between a PC and MAC? I’ve been a PC user and I haven’t tried the new Windows 7. And, seems that technology is always advancing. Like, something better comes out in a couple of months. Which I hate!!
    my price range:1,000-1,500, screen: 13-15″

So, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Any Pros and Cons ?

It’s always a treat to read comments about CH in here.

@crzycpl, thank you for sharing your journey to Inju City.

Have I moved on? I can say not fully move on.

    *waves@cityhallers*

thank you JB for this wonderful blog!

I’m off to do some X’mas shopping!

  189. @159 ktwngrl

I’m going to have to tell the bestie about the jajangmyun at K-town plaza (based on your recommendation). She would always complain that no one made good jajangmyun in Cali like they do in Hawaii (they also make THE best tang soo yuk), and I believed her when we went to go eat at one in Garden Grove…and another one in…La Mirada was it?

But ohhh how I miss the junbok juk at the San in K-town! Yum!

    ***

I am so addicted to You’re Beautiful it’s not even funny…돼지토끼~!! I’m sad that it’s ending this week! At least I still have Smile, You. ^_^

Anyone have any other recommendations for currently airing dramas??? I’ve tried watching Iris, but just can’t seem to get into it.

  190. @188 mzpakipot

MAC, hands-down. I’ve always been a PC user, but recently switched over and I will never buy a PC again. They are so much faster, easier, and the graphics are just outstanding. And you don’t (really) have to worry about viruses. Idk, I guess you either love it, or hate it. For me, I love it. I love it so much that after purchasing my Macbook last year, I just recently purchased a Mac Pro. BEAUTIFUL.

  191. Quick review of Sophie’s Revenge:

The plot is essentially the Meg Ryan/Matthrew Brodderick rom-com “Addicted to Love”, but the film itself plays like Amelie, if Amelie was remade by Baz Luhrmann (esp. in its love of sepia-tinged soft focus.) Zhang Ziyi plays a cartoonist, and the director REALLY ran with that, essentially shooting any scene from her hyperdramatic, hyperpictorial point of view. And it’s edited much like a Baz Luhrmann film, that is very, very fast. It took me about half of the film to adjust. (BTW, it’s impossible to place the location of this film. Tempting to say it’s like an alternative America where everybody’s Chinese?)

The best special effect: both Ziyi and Peter Ho look mid-20ish in this film. Peter looked even younger than Ziyi, and he’s 34 years old!!

Note: for seasoned Chinese viewers, Ziyi playing a sweetheart ingenue that we the audience actually have to root for . . . okay, that’s a lot to ask. (Does anybody doubt that she could have played the Evil Bitch character??) But for the rest of us, Ziyi pulls off her variation of the archetypal Audrey Tatou performance (all beatific, tightlipped smiles and whimsical determination.)

Jisup was kinda . . . eh. Character was never really fleshed out, so you don’t really connect with him as The Jerk. You did get some adorably confused reaction shots from him. You may notice that his parts are dubbed (nothing personal: the whole thing is dubbed), but he did act in Mando.

Finally, the music to Sophie’s Revenge are all Mando remakes of Korean songs. I spied a remake of Clazziquai’s Stepping Out. Remake of Loveholic was also put twice in the film. The sound design of the film is terrific BTW.

The film’s sweet, and Ziyi and Peter have good chemistry. However, enjoying the film is about whether the saturated style works with you. It finally did for me during the 2nd half, and it was a really nice escape.

  192. @cingdoc – yep! That worked. The key was that it had to be sent to that specific email address for the phone. The webmail access was what didn’t work earlier. Thank cingdoc-daughter for me! If you are in the DC area and suddenly hear a phone playing “Ring Ding Dong” well, then it’s probably me!

@ mzpakipot – Mac. You pay more up front, but with what you get, what you don’t have to pay for down the road, and the elegance of the GUI…..Mac.
Test drive the new models, as some people cannot STAND the new touchpads. Personally I love mine. When you get it, become familiar with the wonderful world of sourceforge and open source programs – neooffice, Firefox, VLC (which is what I play the subbed kdramas in), SKIM, etc. VLC plus the Mac specialized screenshot commands = screencaps!

Cons – if you are in school there may be some specific piece of software that is not Mac-friendly. Technically (and this is how I set up my sister’s computers) you can run Windows on a Mac, and boot into which ever you need. She uses it exactly once a year when some stupid Internet Explorer only certification class needs to be redone. 99% of the things you need to do can be done easily on a Mac.

@langdon813 – I mentioned ICOMYM to my oppa. His immediate response was “as long as they are legal.” LOL! I have been trying to rope him into my kdrama obession – I ALMOST talked him into the Asian Film Festival. Had the actors been there to promote Modern Boy instead of the director, I’d have bought him the freaking tickets and told him to take notes, and report in here immediately! I may have to use the tried and true method of sending him the Emperor of the Sea dvds that have ensnared 5 people already.

  193. @belleza
Just got back from “Tour du Pain”…two words- “crash and burn”. I was being my clumsy self and fell not once, but TWICE. The weirdest thing was I got a good yucky abrasion on my knee ( bloody and everything), but not a single tear nor hole on my long pants , go figure.
    Irreconciliable differences:
I was just being a whining wife when I called my hubby “Mr Lance Armstrong”. He actually is a sweetheart. Since he works 6 days/week, his Sun is “his” day away from the 3 PMS females in the house. We live in the hot part of So Cal, so anything after 9am, it’s hot. The reason why he’s willing to share his Sun with me is that he’s helping me do part of my physical rehab. This past summer, I had a possible stroke. The doctors in 2 different hospitals did everything under the sun, and couldn’t DX what happened to me. I just woke up one Monday morning and lost my balance .It’s been 6 months now, and I’m getting better every day. I trip easily, esp in dark illumination ( like HTK , he he…no, he has nyctalopia or nite blindness) because my internal “GPS” is malfunctioned. Basically, think of me learning how to walk correctly again, and not like a toddler…walk, trip, walk, lean on one side, etc. My primary care MD suggested to me to be extra healthy in case it was a stroke, so that’s why I’m spinning, biking, no red meat, etc. The fact that I lost weight and can get smaller size clothes is definitely a bonus.

  194. My god the dooness streams out of this blog…..

    Discussions of kdramas. CHECK
Discussions of ICOMYM, Mine etc CHECK
Discussions of hot men who are great actors (aka Tony Leung, Takeski Kaneshiro) CHECK
Discussions of other life saving things like tyre blowouts/changing* CHECK

    Then to top it off
“Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.”

Classic Princess Bride! Honestly I was reading an article on Robin Penn the day before this topic og PB came up! Freaky!

    *Tyre changing
My one (and hopefully) only experience of a flat tyre was when i was LEARNING to drive. Well thank goodness my driving instructer was there! Suprisingly I kept very calm – carefully driving to a side street (I was on a main/freeway like road at the time). I do recall struggling a little by the end to control steering. I think if I had seen the fact that the rubber was starting to shread (before I stopped) I might have freaked out! But I got a lesson in WATCHING a tyre being changed!
Hmm ockoala does this prove we really are related?

JB you are a total legend, goddess and everything else for the ringtone goodies!

  195. @momosan
In case you missed the “gift sent from heaven” by the MAGNANIMOUS JB, there’s more ringtones to d/l…and yes, the 16 yo did it for me, and I owe her another pair of skinny jeans…

  196. Oh, @ Ariel – if you want to blow your mind, youtube JGS and Angry Inch – there is even a BTS video of him being put into Hedwig make up.

I’m still trying to figure out if that clip aired on Korean TV, because I’m not sure it’s ever been seen on over the air US TV.

  197. @ 183 langdon813

Thankyou, thankyou! Sorry to hear your tyre incident but it’s good to know you get something nice for yourself from the X’mas shopping trip.

    @ 188 mzpakipot

Wave and a virtual CH hug, have a good week!

  198. @Cingdoc – ah! I hadn’t seen those. Off to download! Thanks! And thank your daughter again for me.

And then back to the tedious job that is due out of here and off to Japan on Tuesday am. Luckily I can watch the computer and do this, but still….BORING!

  199. oops means to type “goodness” not “dooness”!

Not sure if it was my excitement of getting the ringtones… dooness reminds me of another early favourite Doozers! from Fraggle rock.

  200. @momosa (you’re not related to @momosan , right? Just kidding)

I am just soooo jealous of you…Tony Leung was checking you out…girl, you just got it…whoo whoo…don’t ever ask WHY, just smile back and enjoy it. When you get to my age, you can recall the moment and savor it….so much like a drama…quoting GMN “cicrit’ (electrifying !!!)

***sigh** last time any one “looked back” at me, I was so paronoid and have to double check myself if I have “the tissue stuck on me” moment, lol :)

  201. @bspanda,

“Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.”

    Never trust a Sicilian. ;)

    @cingdoc,

“We live in the hot part of So Cal, so anything after 9am, it’s hot. ”

You live in the San Gabriel Valley???

“. Basically, think of me learning how to walk correctly again, and not like a toddler…walk, trip, walk, lean on one side, etc. ”

Wow . . . :( *big hug* I don’t know what to say, except double your dosage of You’re Beautiful and Smile.

Is the biking part of your physical therapy?

  202. 184 langdon813

Thank you. Yes, I’d better download that program onto my laptop so that I’ll be able to watch them soon! Aand sorry for your auto incident, forgot to mention that earlier

    186 Chocolatetree

OK, I really have to watch them!

    188 mzpakipot

I had exactly the same question. My laptop’s battery is dead and to replace them, it’s about $150.00. And it looks like you can buy new macbook w/250GB for under $1000 and mac pro for under $1200 with coorporate discounts through my work. I’ll probably get mac this time. I’m so tired of getting virus attacks. Thanks for posting your question, so timely.

    Anyways, happy Monday, everyone!

  203. @201 belleza
I don’t live in Asiantown/San Gabriel Valley….think hotter….INLAND EMPIRE where the temp is hot, hot and HOTTER. There are days when @ockoala and @lovenyc have cool 60’s , and it would be 80’s . And don’t evenmention the summer, try 100+

as of what is considered as my physical therapy…
watching kdrama, of course ( ok, and sneak in the spinning with it ;)
I told my doctor that watching the drama relieve my stress, he he
    eye candies all the time….

  204. @all my OT sisters in So Cal
My OC connection just called us to go to the Grove tonite for the tree lighting ceremony…there’s also FREE concert with : Sheena Easton, Five for fighting, John Secada, Lone Star, @ 730 , The Grove in the Fairfax/Farmer’s Market (Santa Monica Freeway(10) off Fairfax, go north/right and go about 4 miles. I should be fun…see you there….

  205. Just ate at Ajisen Ramen in Diamond Jamboree (my SoCal OT sisters should know what i’m talking about) and the cute boy who looks like the bad guy (Jason Zou) from Black & White was not there today. Sadness. It’s really one of the only reasons I go there – eye candy hehe. Last time I was there was Halloween and they were all dressed up and he dressed up as none other than Maverick from Top Gun. And as Top Gun is my favorite movie of all time (don’t ask why, it just is haha), I knew we were meant to be. LOL.

Then I tried to drop by 85C for some baked goodness but the line to even get bread went past the crepe store so I had to pass. But it’s ok, I have plans to watch AC today and then head up to Rowland for a massage and some stinky tofu. A true OC weekend for me :)

  206. @lovenyc52,

“Last time I was there was Halloween and they were all dressed up and he dressed up as none other than Maverick from Top Gun”

    I feel the need
    The need
    For speed
    – Confucius (from the Analects of Cruise)

“But it’s ok, I have plans to watch AC today and then head up to Rowland for a massage and some stinky tofu. ”

LOL lemme guess . . . the stinky tofu stand (which you can easily smell from the parking lot) between the 91 and that little boba shop? Amirite? :D

    @cingdoc,

“I don’t live in Asiantown/San Gabriel Valley….think hotter….INLAND EMPIRE where the temp is hot, hot and HOTTER. ”

OMG the Inland Empire. Where everything is brown, such as the grass, water, and the ice cream. Ugh. :(

(I’ve been told that Mex in the Inland Empire is awesome tho.)

  207. I cried.

Real tears, it kept coming down my face.

Started the second Vanness’ little boy ran up to him, grabbed his leg in a bear hug, and yelled Daddy, Daddy.

Didn’t stop for the rest of the episode.

Autumn’s Concerto is officially the most heartfelt drama I have watched in a long long time. And absolutely gorgeous cinemetography, I’m just so impressed with the lightly dreamlike quality that saturates the frame.

It’s so good. Except for the fact the every lech and pervert seems to have a homing device to find Ady’s Mu-cheng character. And Mr. Second Male Lead – can I hug you, you are too much, too much wonderfulness in such a handsome package.

And lastly, Vanness Wu – this show is your metamorphosis from doofy fourth lead to heartthrob acting mainstay. You are doing more than awesome with your acting, you’re actually making me care more than I’ve cared in a very long time about something that exists only on TV.

Welcome to the big leagues, VWu. I may just love you more than your bro Vic Zhou, even with his turn as Pi Zi in B&W this year. I just may.

    WIn!

  208. @ belleza – Top Gun quotes are just priceless. i love them all. :) And i believe the stinky tofu shop is in the same plaza as Shaio Mei and Garden Cafe on Colima. Though I heard there’s an even stinkier (aka better) one out in Hacienda. The best will be in the Shiling Night Market in Taipei this winter :)

@ ockoala – i CANNOT wait to come home and watch AC later after my massage and stinky tofu. I’ve been saving it so i can end my weekend with an excellent drama. You just made it even more alluring. Thanks :)

  209. WOW! A drama has actually brought my dongsaeng to tears (or has she just been hanging out with me too long? Hmmm).

To quote Van the Man himself…DAYUM!!! I gots to watch Ep 8!!

But it’s not subbed! SOME people are lucky and can understand without them. Hmph. :-(

Have you seen this? Beware, the cuteness factor is OFF THE CHARTS!

    http://www.viikii.net/videos/watch/49101/0/autumn-s-concerto-special-clip.html

  210. @ockoala
Now I’m tempted to pick up AC again over Thanksgiving Break. Vanness beating out Vic’s Pi Zi, really? That sounds really tempting…

All this food talk in SoCal makes me jealous! Gives me more reasons to just move to the West Coast in the future (:

Question for you all…where did you watch Tamna Island w/subs? I d/l the first 5 episodes and watched them yesterday, but the rest of the episodes don’t have subs on Aja-Aja. Viikii for some weird reason isn’t working for me and half the links are broken and I even tried mysoju out of desperation and links are broken there too. Does anybody know where I could d/l the subtitles? I should’ve watched this when it first came out ::sigh::

I’m really impressed with Im Ju Hwan, I’m actually amazed at how well his eyes reflect what he’s feeling, kind of like JGS in YAB. But I’m still on the fence about Park Kyu, not in terms of whether I like him (I do, his scenes are some of the best in the series so far) but rather how easy it’s to root for him. I mean if William had been played by a smoldering, sexy, talented actor who spoke English and Korean with no problems and was portraying an intelligent character, I would be seriously torn. But the two main “love interests” are so different. Instead we get one hot talented actor who is amazingly expressive playing the cool intelligent character, and it’s an easy choice because William is way too simple and dense. Not that I’m complaining…but they gave us a way easy choice on this. Oh well. The actor playing Yan is pretty attractive…but he’s character also seems pretty simple.

  211. it’s already monday morning – all 3 boys are sleeping in since they had a late night.

i seldom drop by in OT – but i just hv to post cos Momosan mentioned Princess Bride, a very dear movie to me & hubby cos that’s one of our fav movies.

he loves Tony Leung much (but I love him way back during TVB’s Police Story) and think the other Tony Leung a joke (we differ on this cos I think Leung Kar Fai is quite awesome too)

I had a burst tyre one morning recently, entirely my fault cos I misjudged a left turn & grazed the divider. tyre burst after going past a speed bump (abt 5km) halfway to home. husband came to the rescue half an hour later (woke him up from sleep – he’s usually nocturnal). sorry, i don’t do tyres..

    @ reluctantbutaddicted
extensive list there *thums up* i grew up with a father who watches tamil movies religiously every weekend. we girls much prefer hindi movies. my last movie was kal ho nal ho – that wasn’t even proper cos it was a bad vcd copy. (i reserved my budget for Kr DVD). i almost did not watch anything recent nowadays except bits & parts of whatever shown on local tv but I’d drop anything for Sanjay Leela Banshali’s, Devdas is a MUST!!! i’m soooo tempted to read the book after my first watch. I love SRK but i adore Aamir Khan more cos he resembles my 2nd brother (in appearance) – not the other way around, LOL.. one of my fav Hindi movies has to be Karisma Kapoor’s Zubeida. I’m a sucker for biopic or almost anything in sepia or anything with A.R Rahman’s tune – but not PCD’s Jai Ho.. ohhh, must mentioned Taal.. i think i still hv the vcd somewhere

we hv a dry morning but it might rain later on (hopefully much later). my hometown was flooded, my parents & family members nearly got evacuated. it’s the season..

  212. @ langdon, Taohua, lovenyc52

AC – what more can I say? I’m not even trying to force this on unsuspecting passserbys the way I did with my City Hall addiction. I’m just plan touched and loving every episode of AC in the most basic ways. I can’t even say AC is a “good” drama – its not revolutionary, dialogue is soooooo simple, costume and set design is like they raided two stores in Taipei (one for the riches, one for the poor folks), the cinematography which I love is actually really straightforward in framing scenes, I can go on and on.

But this couple has chemistry that is all about love – it’s not really about romance, or attraction, or sexual tension (all of which I enjoy watching in dramas). Guang-xi and Mu-cheng have found in each other the one person who teaches them how to love and be loved, because each is so sadly lacking in it all their lives.

And then for the shit to happen – it breaks my heart! And little Vanness is so winning in his adorable ways, he’s cute but not too precocious, animated but not too child actory. And that ending credits which plays at the end of each episode – they pretty much tell you everything will be fine, and still hurt for them. I don’t even know what hashish the AC production team has sprinkled on each episode, but I’m hooked.

@ Taohua – I thought Vic’s Pi-Zi would be by favorite TW drama performance this year (and maybe best amongst all the TW dramas I’ve watched), but Vanness is very low-key and bringing Guang-xi to life in a subtle yet really moving way. I’ll wait until AC is done and make my decision at that time.

Sorry for those who are still waiting for episode 8 subs. Wish I could help sub, but I don’t just want to provide a synopsis because you gotta watch yourself.

Oh, and I don’t know where else to watch Tamra with English subs. I watched it with Chinese subs.

  213. @langdon813,

“But it’s not subbed! SOME people are lucky and can understand without them. Hmph.”

Speaking of that, viikii’s subtitling system is broken right now. If they can’t get it to work by Wednesday (aka YAB FINALE WEEK), the ish will hit the fan.

  214. @ockoala
I watched AC ep 3-7 last night in one shot and my eyes were so swollen from crying. I am quite excited for ep. 8 to see how the whole reconnection happens. I cannot pin down why I like this show, but it is one of the few TW drama that has held my attention and is actually making me care about the characters. With Black & White and now AC I am starting to have hope for the TW dramas.

  215. @ langdon813

I forgot to say check back with Viikii some subbers has started to post the translation as discussion that shows on the top of the screen. In that case the video doesn’t show it subbed, but it actually is.

Posting the translation as discussion is quite a bit more work than the usual route without the segmenting so some of the translation won’t quite match but you get the general idea.

  216. @ cingdoc

That’s what I did after, I checked if there was a tissue or smudged face or something!!

Not related to momosan (sorry momosan!). Momo is my nickname, momosa is a name of drink.

I’m at the age where I’m savoring that moment.

  217. @213, belleza

Oh God, you’re so right. I’m dreading it already.

This is my first experience with a true mania drama (Tamra was the closest I’ve ever come to it). Thankfully I missed the whole BOF craze and only started watching it right after it finished its network run. YB is just madness…but honestly I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.

I’ve gotten pretty good at getting the gist of a conversation in raw episodes of Kdramas, but there’s no way I could follow Autumn’s Concerto without them. I’d recognize the character’s names and that’s about it!

Viikii – May the Force be with you guys!

    @215, jtinma

Thanks for the heads up about the subs!

  218. 188 mzpakipot : MAC. MAC, MAC, MAC.

I love Macs. Many many reason, but just no viruses is such a huge reason. Also, they look so cool. And ALSO–did you notice Hwang Tae Kyung uses a Mac??? Oh yeah. They put a stickie on over the apple, but that baby is a MAC!!

My advice is, just in case I haven’t been making myself clear, get a Mac.

  219. Oh, Vanness…so kind, so considerate, always randomly taking your clothes off for us like that. I just might have to send you another tweet. ;-)

  220. @momosa – Hi Momosa!

Momosan is my nickname as well, having long since graduated from Momo or Momochan – which is now my niece’s nickname. Oddly, it’s not my actual Japanese name, nor my baptismal name. 8-) At this point only my parents and siblings use the short Momo for me.

I ended up as Momo because one of my sisters couldn’t pronounce my baptismal name properly and it came out Momo. The fact that it came out as a reasonable name endlessly amused people, so it stuck. That’s ok, we call my sister Fussy, which has literally nothing to do with her name or her personality either.

  221. Just about to start AC ep 8. Read ockoala’s admission of tears and now must remove makeup and put on glasses in preparation of forthcoming tears. Check back in an hour….

  222. And interestingly enough, I didn’t get so much as a lump in my throat. Not with AC tonight, not with YB earlier this week.

I think Friend broke me. It may be that I don’t have any tears left in me after that one.

  223. That kid in AC is so adorable.:-) Feel like giving him a kiss on his head whenever he makes that ‘goldfishy’ face. Watched the 8th episode yesterday without subs just to see that ‘leg hugging’ scene.Another first for me- watching a TW drama without subs:-O

Now just have to watch it again with subs to understand what is actually being said
:-) Van Ness and Ady have such great chemistry -that definitely doesn’t need any subs/translation to figure out:-)

On another note- Checked out the trailer of ‘Meteor Garden’ out of curiosity. And OMG, I almost died laughing looking at Van Ness’ hairstyle.:-D I guess some guys are like wine- keeps gettting better the more older they get:-)

  224. @192 momosan: Emperor of the Sea. This was the series I managed to rope my hubby in. In fact, he was so inspired by the story and the OST, he even learnt to play the theme song on piano. And he’s never taken a piano lesson in his life. A great series from the word go. So anyone trying to ensare hubby into watching Kr drama, try EOTS. To me, it beats the monster hit Kingdom of the Wind by a good margin.

Another report on NEW MOON. Yesterday hubby and I went to watch New Moon after some pleading from our pre-teen. The first thing I noticed before entering the cinema was there were many adults. Mostly parents bringing along their pre-teens or younger (rated “M” in Oz). The movie was sheer FUN. There were loud guffaws all over the place littered throughout the movie. Case in point: wolf boy ripping off his shirt. It was oh, really not subtle. For a split second, I thought I was watching “America’s Next Top Model” but when I realised I was actually watching a serious teenage romance flick, a loud guffaw unconsciously escaped. Then I heard same from hubby; in fact all round us.

Well, I like both Twilight and New Moon. While Twilight was dreamlike, beautiful, poignant and romantic, New Moon is action packed and unabashedly selling 6 pacs. Vampire Boy’s romantic lines were embarrassingly cheesy (more guffaws, cringe, cringe). Not because the writer is not good, opines hubby, but because this boy’s acting is not convincing. Yeah, I said, not like my guyliners from YB. What about my preteen and others of her ilk? While dad and mom were guffawing or giggling, she was deathly quiet. I asked her why, and she said, “Not interesting” (to the 6 pacs). OK, maybe she needs time to grow more hormones…, or she was secretly vowing never to watch the sequel with mom and dad again.

  225. I know why AC made me cry this week – boy koala has been missing his dad like mad and asking when he’s coming home. So the sight of a fatherless cherub thinking a dude is his father and hugging him with all his heart and might and that dude really is his father – well it hit too close to home. Fatherless little boys appear to be a tear trigger for me when done right. Otherwise I’m still pretty snark and unsentimental when it comes to most manufactured aw heck moments. And I love how the big moments in AC hit and pass rather than drag on. Everything feels much more meaningful.

Oh, almost forgot, lovenyc52 don’t worry about Tamra ringtones for me, our fairy godmother provided so many I love and will use, but many thanks for the offer.

And epyc – my boy is 4.5 yrs old and his sister is 2, turning 3 soon.

  226. @ langdon813

Have you seen the Ninja Assassin trailer that goes –
Only one ninja was hurt making this film…the rest were killed.
    LOL!
I looked for the trailer online, but I can’t seem to find it.

    @ ockoala

    New camera? ;)
Puzzling is always more fun with a friend. :D

  227. I HAVE seen that, and now it’s going to drive me crazy because I can’t find it either. Damn, guess I’ll have to keep looking at a whole bunch of Rain stuff trying to find it. The things I do for that man, I swear. :-D

  228. @ ockoala – slowly watching AC as i am getting interrupted chatting with my friend who’s in Japan. also slowly sliding further into bed (started in a full sitting position and am now almost prone haha… the massage really worked, i’m totally relaxed). Glad JB was able to provide you with some wonderful ringtones, but let me know if you ever need more, k? :)

  229. ‘my eyes were so swollen from crying. ”

Okay, now, I must watch Autumn Concerto. This Belleza is only happy when it rains.

    @rambutan,

“So anyone trying to ensare hubby into watching Kr drama, try EOTS. To me, it beats the monster hit Kingdom of the Wind by a good margin.”

Has he tried Jumong? Seems like the next logical conclusion. (*gasp* Haemosu!!!! *gasp*)

“While Twilight was dreamlike, beautiful, poignant and romantic, New Moon is action packed and unabashedly selling 6 pacs. ”

Thus the social question of our times:

    Jacob or Edward? :D

  230. @229 belleza -Jacob wins hands down:-) Edward is too much of a stalker-ish creepy control freak.:-S

  231. @229 belleza – Jacob wins hands down.:-) Edward is too much of a stalker-ish creepy control freak.:-S

  232. @ belleza – jacob. no contest. though i have to say i was more pro-edward in the books, i am 100% team jacob in the movie. probably because taylor can act and is sweet and caring and not at all cloying. oh and hot. that helps :)

re: AC ep 8 – just finished. got the lump in my throat when they re-met, but didn’t cry. next episode looks so good…and OMG I just counted the episodes and will be on a plane to taipei the day the final episode becomes available. crossing my fingers that wifi will be available by the time my flight rolls around.

  233. Virtual waves, hugs & kisses xoxoxoxo to all CityHallers.

I am hosting a small party (of 3) for a marathon weekend viewing of City Hall. This is my 3rd hosting, with MNIKSS and Coffee Prince being the first 2. This will be my 3rd official end-to-end watching of CH. I have watched this and that episode but haphazardly. I have asked my son to bake some choclate cookies to keep his unni and ahjumma and mother awake.

On the New Moon topic… I watched it with my girlfriends last Friday and the audience was packed with teenagers. The girls sitting next to me kept screaming… “Take you shirt off” whenever Jacob appears. And there was swooning and loud sighs, even clapping. I’ve never been in a more emotive cinema audience.

  234. @The trip to The Grove
It was madness…very crowded …very rude crowds…lil 12yo cingdoc standing there waiting for the tree lighting ceremony , and out of nowhere, this big tall lady just moved into the line and stood in front of my little kid. Hey lady/big mountain…some considerations please….We ended not staying for the concert and we went to Rowland Hts’s Phoenix instead ( @lovenyc, we were just down the street, Nogales and Colima…we were there around 930) Eventhough, we didn’t go to the concert, we still had a blast, shooting the breeze…it’s the company that counts ( like here in OT :)

Uhhhhhh….did I just read that Vikii is broken…during YB finale week.. Nooooooooooooooooooooo…We should all pray together for a miracle. God, PLEASE. Come to think of it, it didn’t matter to me, I will not be free til next Sun, maybe Vikii would have been fixed by then , I hope….

    @belleza
Overall, I’m doing ok…I just have to be careful…Now you all know “part “of the reason how I got my name…I was watching the drama to “kill time” while I was staying in the hospital ,”seeing the doctors”….I will tell you guys the other reason another time ;)

You guys, wish me luck…it’s gonna be “Hell week” for me this week…extra work and throwing a holiday dinner … and NO kdrama. I’m sure by the end of the week, I will be very grumpy because I will be tired and will have severe (kdrama) withdrawal….. not happy at all ;( :(

  235. “I’ve never been in a more emotive cinema audience.”

I think the most emotive cinema audience I’ve been part of was

“his is my 3rd hosting, with MNIKSS and Coffee Prince being the first 2. ”

Good timing actually, because I’ll probably continue my 1st run of CH this w/end. That and AC because This Belleza needs to cry.

    Re: Ninja Assassin Trailer

Nice to see the trailer with the sound synced up properly. But does it have a Three Bears Dance . . OF DEATH?!!?? :D

  236. @cingdoc,

“I was watching the drama to “kill time” while I was staying in the hospital ,”seeing the doctors”….”

    Ahh cingdoc. *hugs* :(

    @samsooki,

“Are there k movie/drama actors who have similar ‘presence’ (however the word is defined) as these two?”

Lemme think about this one . . .

As an actor, Tony Leung is sometimes considered kind of a street poet of sadness (though we are also speaking of a HK golden age where “Canto-consciousness” seemed bound between the gutter and the glitter, and so to be anything “street” is more local rite of passage than of artistic exception.) He has a plush sensitivity, behind not so much a wall of masculinity, but simple, sometimes mechanical determination. In warrior pics, he is the prototypical warrior who tastes the air, smells the earth, reflects upon his wife and children, before he goes into battle.

Jun Kwang Ryul kinda does the same for me. He’s a saguek regular who tends to play villain or tragically flawed characters (outside of Huh Joon), but the closer you watch his performances, you’ll see that same poetic keen of sensitivity, which is wrapped around a growling, lion voice with an almost fang-like grin. Leung tends to anchor sadness like a deep well, and Jun Kwang Rul does that too. Very poetic, even when it is quite bitter.

I think So Ji Sup has that potential. People sometimes say that Tony Leung conveys sadness through the eyes; rather, I think he conveys it through his mouth when he doesn’t speak. Sometimes frumpy, somtimes half-grinning, or even how he discinerably breathes in different cadences. Of course, Ji Sup does it through the eyes and really no drama actor in his generation does it through his eyes quite like he can. And you can kinda see in Sophie’s Revenge. In many scenes where he’s kinda expected to act in a vacuum, where his character (much like most of the characters) are in perpetual confusion, he reaches back into that sadness rather than a different emotion. His tone isn’t congruent with the movie’s tone, but it is still an interesting choice.

As for Takeshi Kaneshiro . . . Kaneshiro for me is kinda the Chinese version of Johnny Depp. Mind-numbingly beautiful (Kaneshiro is truly one of the most handsome faces in the world), yet he’s also a real actor who’s done both commercial and indie work. Not as delicious perverse as Depp, but similar rep to me.

I’m tempted to say Jang Dong Gun (i.e. pretty but credible), but that one doesn’t sound right to me. The problem is Kaneshiro’s multicultural background does inform his performances, and inevitably like many Chinese mantinee stars, there’s a somewhat colonial, worldly bearing that’s common among Chinese cinema, but kinda unique among Asian stars. Lee Jung Ki to me has that same colonial element, and that is his vortex to which the sneering, smarmy, prattish, almost raunchy elements flows centrifugally with his expressive (overacting?) anger and seething intensity.

May have to think about this one some more. I almost want to throw Won Bin in there, but that doesn’t feel right either.

  237. @229 belleza, hubby went straight from EOTS to Jumong, all 80 eps. of them. He complained that Jumong’s OST was nothing compared to EOTS’. EOTS beats Jumong by a good margin too, in terms of story, pace and acting skills.

NEW MOON – Jacob’s the man, definitely! Edward was very attractive and mesmerizing in Twilight, but he’s creepy in New Moon. Jacob’s bronzed abs definitely put Edward’s deathly white countenance in bad light. Such a contrast. Edward’s my man! Caring, loving, and those abs… gosh! Gasps, gulps!

Talking about abs, all VANNESS-ab shippers. Good news, he’s just signed for a movie that will show off his abs in an organic way. http://aznr.net/forums/index.php? Excerpt: ‘After taking his shirt off for idol drama “Autumn’s Concerto”, Vanness Wu will be showcasing his bare chest for his upcoming boxing scene. Punching a thirty kilogram punching bag and wiping off torrents of sweat on the spot, Vanness takes on a vicious look that resembles the scary devil kid from “The Grudge.”’

  238. @rambutan,

Actually you may want to go to Ja Myung Go, to see the final bookend of the Jumong-Muhyung-Prince Hojong legacy.

“He complained that Jumong’s OST was nothing compared to EOTS”

You mean, he didn’t like this???
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzD25o8Giu4

The opening sequence for the Philippines version just totally changes the vibe of the show LOL. (Still surprised 1 Litre of Tears became the #1 show in the Philippines. Wow.)

I love Lee Pil Ho’s scores. He likes to use motifs with strong accents. My favorite one overall is for Beethoven Virus. Also Fashion 70s (though not sure he scored my favorite theme from F70s, also my favorite theme in K-drama.)

“Caring, loving, and those abs… gosh! Gasps, gulps!”

Something to be said about abs that are caring and loving, as opposed to being macho and imposing. What’s the difference? Eh, just move that sofa a little bit more to the right, kay hun? See what sensitive, emotionally aware abs can do for you? :D

  239. Just finished watching AC Ep 8 – a very good episode. The scene when Van ness met the little boy was awesome. Can’t wait for Ep 9 which I think is the real deal since Ep 6. I normally watch one or two TW drama per year. This is a record breaking year for me with three dramas in a row in the space of two months: firstly Black & White, then My Queen and now Autumn’s Concerto! Why they have only one episode per week and what a torture.

Van ness and Aydy as an onscreen couple is simply beautiful to watch. The second lead guy is one of the coolest second lead: forthright without clingy, honest without self-pity. Now, this is great second lead that we cheer for. The little boy is so adorable. With regard to the story, it is a classic case of cliche well-made that draws the audience in naturally, like Save the Last Dance for Me!

Now, we all have to pray for Viikii for a very important week in kdramaland: YAB finale……..

And, Belleza, love to hear your anatomy of CH and AC when you’re done.

  240. In case you haven’t seen this yet: YB must-see BTS clips:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=im6yrR2yZ8I
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjjhSeAKUJg

These do look like a conclusion goodie, really sad to see this delightful drama end.

  241. @ belleza, definitely will go for Ja Myung Go soon. Have been waiting for the subs to be completed and looks like they are. Hubby on and off tries to “bond” by sitting down with me in front of my Korean/Taiwanese TV drama screen. Inevitably, however, he soon hurries up from the sofa whining “so soapy!” or “too ridiculous!”, then evaporates. Sometimes he stays longer to whine: “Why don’t you download me an ancient drama like EOTS?”

Will Queen Seon Duk do the trick? Heard it’s crack. I’m waiting for the subs to be completed, though.

  242. Has anyone read about Dave Lee’s criticism on Infinity Challenge? What do you think of it? I would like to hear some thoughts about where he’s coming from because I cannot comprehend the issue from his point of view (not having lived as an Asian-American) If this topic is sensitive and touchy in nature, I apologise for not knowing beforehand!!

  243. @ hjkomo

You found me! Clearly I was bored Saturday morning.

I’m actually feeling the excitement building again for the YB finale this week – caused in part by my listening to the OST all weekend, and by my lack of enthusiasm these past few weeks actually re-invigorating my love for YB. Sometimes you have to step back to take 2 steps forward.

I’m wondering if I should start Hero after YB – so just aw shucks it and stop watching any currently airing dramas until *the-drama-so-awesome-it-must-be-spoken-of-in-reverent-tones* CHUNO airs in Jan. Decisions, decisions.

    @ belleza

Oooh, you’re gonna start AC? Nice, more folks to savor Vanness.

  244. Just finished watching AC ep 8. It was super cute but heartbreaking at the same time. When I finished it I was seriously cursing today is only Monday!!! Someone talked about how the girl seem to be a magnet for every pervert, that’s so true! This show reminds me a bit about Mars with the subject matter they deal with. Anyhow, can’t wait for next episod.

  245. @236 belleza -

This is actually for JB too, and for anyone else with an opinion.

I’m not sure if I have seen enough of k-dramas and k-movies to make this kind of statement, but I doubt there is someone in the k-drama/movie world that has the same kind of presence as Tony Leung.

belleza, what you say about Tony Leung is right, I think. There is poetry in his acting, and it’s not necessarily lyrical or metrical, but visual. What the heck is visual poetry? I’m not sure, it’s kinda like that oft-quoted Justice Stewart line –

“…I shall not today attempt further to define the kinds of material I understand to be embraced within that shorthand description [of hardcore porn]; and perhaps I could never succeed in intelligibly doing so. But I know it when I see it…”

I think that I’ve not yet seen it, in k-dramas and k-movies, with respect to Korean male actors.

As for Kaneshiro, I’m pretty sure that there is no equal there either.

Takeshi Kaneshiro IS beautiful, but more than that, he’s substantive, and yet still delicate, quietly rogue-ish. Johnny Depp would be a good comparison, but still even Johnny Depp falls short somehow, because there is a heaviness to Depp’s characters (a bit turgid, a bit swollen and heavy) that is not there with Kaneshiro’s acting. I’m not saying that Kaneshiro is a better actor than Johnny Depp (far from it, I tend to think the opposite in fact), but just that for comparison’s sake there is not many that I think can compare.

I mean, imagine if both spoke Korean?

And then Kaneshiro did Cinderella Man rather than Kwon Sang Woo. Or if Tony Leung did Style rather than Ryu Shi Won .

I’m not saying that I would go into auto-squee mode, but I’m not saying that I wouldn’t squee either.

  246. “Will Queen Seon Duk do the trick? Heard it’s crack. I’m waiting for the subs to be completed, though.”

On overall entertainment value, probably my favorite show of the year. But would I recommend it? Mmm . . . Tough call. QSD isn’t a true “RPG Sageuk” like ETOS or Jumong. Yes, you have Team Deokman vs. Team Mishil, but there aren’t as many battles as there should be in a RPG Sageuk. A lot of melodrama, a lot of court intrigue, a lot of “This Mishil eyebrow-twitching”, a lot of “Duckie Reaction Shots.” Gawd I love this silly show. But . . .

Probably would recommend The Legend of the Four Gods (fantasy-oriented, lots of special effects) or, if you’re up for another naval epic, something like The Admiral/Immortal Lee Soon Shin. All 100+ episodes of it. :D The Legend doesn’t end well, but the cinematography is gorgeous.

    @pongs,

“Has anyone read about Dave Lee’s criticism on Infinity Challenge?”

Comedian Ken Jeong jokes that you can kinda spot the Korean-American guy among Asian Americans . . . he’d be the angry one. ;)

Didn’t like the cheap shot at the Philippines, since that reinforces another stereotype about the Philippines being the underclass for rich Asian people. It’s true that the Philippines are better at English than most Koreans, but that goes without saying since English is an official language.

My jaw kinda dropped with the Dokdo reference. (That came out of nowhere, and it’s akin to dousing a greasefire with gasoline.) What’s next? Saying Kim Yuna stole her moves from Mao Asada? All Asians look the same? I mean, really man . . .

I understand his viewpoint though. Reinforces one perception (shared by many Chinese BTW) that Korea aggressively markets itself out to the world yet lacks the self-awareness to understand what image is being processed. Everything comes back, domestically, as “Hallyu is great!!” where the reality is probably far from that. Same with Rain and others crossing over into Hollywood. Are people excited that he’s in a Hollywood production, or do they fear he’ll look silly or like a “chop socky minstrel?”

  247. Not much to contribute to the discussions today drama-wise! I’m just patiently sitting in my corner of the world waiting for various and sundry episodes to be subbed (insert appropriate FIGHTING!! comment here). I’ve watched all of the raws a couple of times and deciphered all I’m able to, so I’ve done something I rarely ever do any more and ventured outside Dramaland. My work phone is keeping me too busy to watch much today.

Anyhoo…Twitter is such a font of useless yet endlessly entertaining information. I thought this was cool; it’s a time lapse video of several pop artists collaborating on a 4 x 5 canvas over a 24-hour period.

    http://www.sketchtheatre.com/?p=3285

I’m fascinated by tattoo artists. I’ve only got one, but the saying is true; once you get one, you always want another one. I think I’ll get one more and stop, because any more than that and I’m afraid I’ll be veering too far down Biker Chick Road. ;-)

  248. Just thought of something re: Tony Leung comparisons; what about Kim Myung-min? This is an honest question because I haven’t seen any of his work; just basing this on articles I’ve read here and there.

  249. @langdon,

    “what about Kim Myung-min?”

KMM kinda reminds me of early Ralph Fiennes actually. Highly developed with his line deliverties, and his voice has a gorgeous hauteur to it. Having said that, as a serious actor, still feel KMM is a bit too mechanical for my tastes, just in how Feinnes still has occasional difficulty not playing to stage. But I haven’t seen his last film with Ha Ji Won.

    @samsooki,

“Johnny Depp would be a good comparison, but still even Johnny Depp falls short somehow, because there is a heaviness to Depp’s characters (a bit turgid, a bit swollen and heavy) that is not there with Kaneshiro’s acting”

Kaneshiro has a very strong rootless vibe. Been everywhere, from nowhere. He can do TW-drama, J-drama, English movies, just about anything, precisely because he doesn’t quite belong. Even in his mid-30s, he seems ready to hop on the next ride if he thinks it’ll take him somewhere interesting. Also, for all his prettiness, he’s actually quite rugged . Strong face, strong hands, deeply earthy presence. Just a gorgeous leading man in “House of Flying Daggers.” Not a bohemian like Depp, but worldly nonetheless. It’s an advantage that a lot of HK/TW actors have, when they’re able to transcend the suburban banality that especially domesticates a lot of TW idol actors. Just my perception.

“I’m not sure if I have seen enough of k-dramas and k-movies to make this kind of statement, but I doubt there is someone in the k-drama/movie world that has the same kind of presence as Tony Leung.”

Mmm . . . disagree with that one, because I don’t like blanket generalization as matter of course. Honestly, I didn’t like either performance in Red Cliff. Tony Leung’s depiction of Zhou Yu just missed the mark. Would have been more appropriate as Zhuge Liang, and Kaneshiro just completely missed with that performance. (BTW for QSD viewers, I think Zhuge Liang was an influence on Bidam’s recent transformation. The feather motif was taken from Red Cliff.)

I still liked Red Cliff as an anachronistic throwback. With all the money and probably CGI, it still looked like something from the 80s, and I mean that in a positive, non-ironic way. John Woo is like George Lucas in that way; to these directors, battle (blood, sweat, tears and all) is still a wonderful, wonderful thing full of bromance, tactical geekery, and public displays of valour. It’s fun and it’s well done.

Contrast that with The Warlords. A lot of the same themes but approached from a realistic, cynical point of view. Back to “War is Hell” tropes.

  250. @ langdon-unni

“I’m just patiently sitting in my corner of the world waiting for various and sundry episodes to be subbed (insert appropriate FIGHTING!! comment here)”

AC episode 8 is subbed and on sugoideas.com (have you seen yet?). Vanness even does drunk and passed out magnificently (don’t think any of the other F4 can topple over quite so stick straight like a board – kudos for VWu’s method acting, and strong abdominal muscles for holding his pose).

  251. @ ockoala

Woo hoo! No, I haven’t seen the subbed Ep 8 yet, just the raw, so YAY for that (and the YT cuteness overload, too)!

  252. re: AC ep 8…who else noticed that the village chief’s name is Hua Ze Lei?!!? i laughed so hard at that. I also liked how when Vanness was drunk, makeup was even so great that he had that slight red tint to his skin.. ASIAN GLOW!!

  253. lovenyc52, good catch! That’s hilarious. Almost makes me want to watch Meteor Garden again. :-D

  254. Fantastic catch, lovenyc52

Time for me to do something useful (the names of the villagers are hilarious!)

The names of the Hua Tien (Flower Paddy) Villagers:

花癡心 – Tuo-ye’s child-bride fiance chick – Hua Sze-hsin (a Hua sze is a foolishly sentimentally attached person, so she’s foolishly attached to Tuo-ye).
花雕雞 – A flower engraved chicken
花椰菜 – a flower chinese vegetable
    花煞煞 – a flower stop
    花枝丸 – a squid ball
花蝴蝶 – a flower butterfly – also known as a flirt
    花公主 – a flower princess

And best of all, apparently Tuo-ye’s (the second male lead) dead father is named 花美男 (we see it on his deceased plaque). Hua is the last name, but Mei-nan is Mi-nam (and where do we currently know this very name??).

  255. langdon813:D

Thank you! I’m finally able to watch Red cliff on AZNV! Just started doing so since I couldn’t sleep in this morning with my jet lagged body. Now I have to go and attend to my business stuff, been doing more ghost busting(part of my healing work) lately, strange, 4 requests in row…

Anyway, coming home tomorrow just in time for YB! By the time I get home, it’ll be hopefully available on Viikii?

Anybody watching Hero? Is it any good? Plz let me know.

I’m still reluctant on AC. When I cry, I get all stuffed up… But so many praises here… I guess I’ll join up soon or later.

  256. @188 Mzpakipot — A Mac is probably a fine choice, but a cheaper option is to go to Craig’s list or FreeCycle and get an older laptop and load Ubuntu. It comes with Firefox, OpenOffice, a bit torrent client, audio & video players, etc. but has a very light footprint I have a couple of machines that were given to me by more cutting edge friends & relatives, and am very happy with that setup. I am not super techie, but really Ubuntu is easy. If you do get your new mac, you could turn your old laptop into an Ubuntu machine and get years more use out of it.

  257. Funniest. Thing. Ever.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFsmqvKkGmY

  258. Oh, I forgot the most important thing — no viruses! Just like a Mac.

  259. @ This belleza

It appears you need to guest-star in your favorite show QSS immediately. Ratings have declined double-digits since This Mishil up and went to hell/heaven. You are needed to revive the Seon-doek ratings beast.

Perhaps you should do QSS before signing onto the YB Season 2 as Shin-woo’s erstwhile love interest.

Can I be your agent? Zero fees, only want to tag along on set.

  260. @ langdon813 – thanks for that clip… much needed laugh after a day like today :) i need YB fixes throughout the week until Wed.. just lil hits here and there. that’s all i ask. hehe

  261. @langdon
Thank you…that video was funny…I needed that.

    @YB OST
Maybe @Samsooki ( or anybody else) can help me with this. The song “My Heart is cursing” is sung by Kim Dong Wook…now this is HowL Kim Dong Wook and not Coffee Prince’s Ha Rim Kim Dong Wook, right? I know CP HR sings also. So, I’m not 100% sure as to who is the singer…
I fell in love with HowL since Goong ( Perhaps Love). I bought his CD Almost Transparent Blue , and it’s my fav ( so much so it’s in my alarm clock CD player) , and I wake up every morning with his beautiful voice. I think HowL is THE drama OST ballard “go to” guy.

So sad…I know this week is the finale week, but part of me already gave up because I know I can’t watch it., so I’m not that emotional ( sad nor excited) about it ending soon. I’m sure I will feel differently come Wed night and yearning for my JGS…which lead me to this….

Just saw clips of the AN JELL ’s last concert…it was good, and like most of us, wished I was there. While I was watching JGS performing “Goodbye” and hearing all those young female fans screaming, why did I feel so ICOMYM??? I felt like these young girls, too, the “young girl” part of me also joined them shouting “Hwang Tae Kyung Oppa “. ***sigh***even with the formula someone mentioned earlier ( age /2 plus 7), uhhhhh…I still hear this in my head “jail bait”…”he’s old enough to be your son”….*sigh** On the brighter side, thank God one of my manrem (Gong Yoo) is finishing his military service soon…so new target for me to drool about, he he :)

  262. @ 236 belleza : my Takeshi Kaneshiro as the Chinese Johnny Depp? I like it. The face that is beautiful but not empty (a la Keanu Reeves). I also agree with Samsooki’s comment about my TK’s depth… even in lighter films he has presence. I haven’t seen Red Cliff yet, so no comment there.

    @ 257 langdon813 : “Funniest. Thing. Ever.”

Damn. I wish I hadn’t followed that link b/c I can’t sleep after laughing so hard! And it’s time I went to bed.

You know, I still laugh out loud and helplessly when I see, try to explain, or even think about the fey tai-chi/pig-chase scene… that may be my favourite scene not only of the whole series but perhaps of any series–I seriously and deeply love stuff that can make me laugh uproariously. YB has made me laugh out loud a lot. Thank goodness.

  263. @114 cingdoc

Re: YB Lol at your scene of sound of music ‘parody’ of jeremy and jolie.

My PC literally burnt while rewatching YB ep14! Now, my watching YB finale is also in doubt. SOB, SOB!!!

    @langdon813
    Really glad you are safe.

Just posting a quickie from the office, just wanna wish everyone a very HAPPY THANKSGIVING! Take care :-)

  264. @263 simplesim
I’m glad that you like “my version” of YB ending…don’t worry, you and I can have a “viewing party” on Sun together… BYOB ( I will bring my beverage of choice-Schweppes’ cream soda-yum yum) …no popcorn for me ( for some reasons I cough severely every time I eat it) we will have BBQ chips….let’s start about 2pm PST…sounds good….

I was a mess again…first I “tried” to watch Smile, you. Episode 17 wasn’t too bad ,even though there was no subs ,since our dear DB had the recaps. As for epi 18, I got the gist of it. @langdon, aren’t those 2 (Jung In and Hyun Soo) getting cute? Way to go Kang Hyun Soo- no more beta male- stood up for your love ;)
The “messy” part was when I watched Hwang Jin Yi- I was sobbing so hard…my poor JGS- he acted so well in that drama. And this was when he was sooo young. Damn, you’re great, JGS! -all this without any manliner, too :)

  265. Even though I love YB, there is a large part of me that is really looking forward to it ending since I have a bare semblance of a life since I started watching it. This is my first mania drama not having been overly enthusiastic about Coffee Prince and purposely missing the whole BOF boat. I realize this feeling is very similar to falling in love which sounds great on paper but falling in love is totally engrossing and exhausting as muskrats may attest to if they can talk. Thank god I only fell in love once (to my husband) otherwise I might not have survived my teens.

I have a major project waiting to be shepherded and a life to catch up on but all this crazy anticipation of YB’s ending is preventing me from concentrating on work or my life right now. Instead I’m on youtube watching BTS, mini concerts or listening to OST part 2. BTW I’m so addicted to the fool song that shin woo sang. This is not his version but I really like it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIkq2y_5KWs&feature=related

PS thanks to everyone who wished me well. I’m feeling better. Its one of two things work related stress or YB related stress. I’d like to think its the former since the 2nd would be a bit too embarrassing.

  266. @everyone,please welcome a new member of YB lovers
    my 16 yo-asianifiedkris5
    “hi!!! ^_^ XD <3"
we are going to marathon YB- whoo whoo- mother /daughter bonding time :)
another example that kdrama addiction is genetically transmitted….

  267. @ Belleza
If this is what you are saying, I do agree about Ralph Fiennes not always being able to make a distinction from stage to film. I’ve seen him and other great theater actors make the mistake of overacting in films from their theater training. KMM, however, I can’t criticize. I loved him in white tower and almost everything I’ve seen him in.

And to whoever asked–if you can afford it get a MAC. I have a MacBook Pro. Today’s macs offers everything macs are known for such as great graphics, great processing speed for film editing and photoshopping and ease of all apple products working well together, ipods, backup, wifi but due to the intel chip you can now run any software that can’t run on mac’s OS e.g. Visio and MS project provided you run Parallels or an equivalent.

  268. @ 220 Momosan

Again I’m late but I have to say Hi! to Momosan, seems to rude not to say hi! in return. Momo or 毛毛 (in cantonese) is literally ‘hairy’ but it also in reference to ‘fuzzy, cute” (feeling). The name just got stuck during high school.

In the area where I work now, there is a huge international community – Japanese, Korean, English, American, Vietnamese, Chinese, Burmese, etc and very often I get a Japanese or Korean mistaken me as one of them. I promise myself I ll take up Japanese (first) as I feel so obliged to answer when just the other day a Japanese old lady nodded at me and wanted to start a conversation. Yes! I will do it …

  269. Um, rumors of a Japanese version of Coffee Prince? No thanks… I just think with all the lovey dovey moments it won’t work that well. I have a strong dislike of remakes because…….. I’m lazy about watching things over again. So I only watched Meteor Garden, and I only watched the Japanese version of the “Man who can’t get married” (Kekkon Dekinai Otoko).

  270. @ simplesim-moni

    You asked, I delivered. ;-)

@ Islanders (and Team Park Kyu!)

Turning a family member into a raging TPK member is fun – my sister bought the Tamra OST AND forwarded me a link to the original source manhwa she scoured the web for. Yes, score one for mania dramas cut short by evil TV stations. I miss Tamra, a lot.

    @ Autumn’s Concerto lovers (do we have a name? Concerto-goers? Vanness ab-admirers?)

I went back and re-watched the first four episodes last night, because when I first watched I wasn’t paying as much attention, cuz I thought it was just another fluffy throwaway TW drama (didn’t help that I had just watched 2 episodes of Momo Love right before, which fits that bill perfectly). But takeaway after round 2 – the second male lead, Tuo-ye, the actor is going places. Mark my words, he’s gonna get a lead role real soon. And if it wasn’t for Vanness playing the lead – I would be in full-blown second-lead-crush-syndrome right now. As is, I merely marvel at this wonderfully written character and just wish I could insert a lovely lady for him to end up with.

If YB addicts think that Shin-woo with his manufactured date-like gestures and little caring moments for MY makes him the perfect second lead – oy vey, please, please see what Tuo-ye does for Mu-cheng, and how he is in front of her. He’s a 100% open, honest, she knows he loves her, they are best friends, he takes care of her, she doesn’t want to let him, but what he does for her is because he loves her, and let’s all remember that when you truly love someone, you can’t hope that the other person also will want to be with you because of what you do, you do it because you want to protect, help, and take care of that person. Shin-woo is a sweet dude, but he has yet to learn that honesty is the best way to face the girl you love – his continued pretense, even to this moment, that he didn’t know from day 3 that MN was a girl – beyond annoying and lame to me (which is why he’s not getting MN even though in many ways he’s much better for her).

I melts – both guys in AC make me want sit in front of a window and just gaze outside with a doofy grin on my face and think about how awesome they are. Mu-cheng’s crappier than crappy life is counter-balanced by her having Guang-xi and Tuo-ye in it.

  271. Fans of Jang Geun-seok and the movie “The Happy Life’ should def check this out:-)

  272. Hey Smilers!

I’d love to know what the melody that’s playing at the beginning of this clip is (during Jung-in’s fantasy movie date with Hyun-soo). Can anyone tell me what it is? I can’t seem to find it on the OST.

The music begins at about :28 into the clip.

  273. Hello, I have a question for all the ANZV.TV viewers Is your viewing experience is like watch movies on 5 inches screen with low resolutions(at the point of having hard time deciphering sub-titles)? Am I doing something wrong? I’d love to know. I have hard time concentrating being distracted by images breaking up.

I think it’s still Tuesday in the States? I first thought it’s already Wed. there and get excited about YB … I was wrong… Sigh.

Anyway, please let me know. Thank you.

  274. @ celestialorigin

I haven’t had that problem with AZNV.tv, sorry!

If you select the “Video” tab, there are different screen options shown in the lower left part of the screen; full screen, 1X (normal size), 2X (double size). Have you tried each of those to see if there’s any improvement? I hate that you’re having issues because it’s such a great site. If they would just load Oishii Man, it would be close to perfect.

    Good luck!

  275. Aarrrrrgh! Overloaded with work, two days before thanksgiving, stuck in the office!

    big frownie face.

  276. So, samsooki raved about that giant slice of revenge best served warm Temptation of Wife a few months ago. I did indeed catch a few scattered episodes on TV, all of them from the second half after the wife comes back with a new identity. Missing episodes never hurt my understanding – horrid husband and evil bitch of a second wife Must Pay For Their Crimes!

The length and low budget look of the daily drama deterred me from ever watching it in its entirety, but I totally get why the drama was addictive.

Along comes its successor Angel’s Temptation, which is not only digestible in length (20 eps!), it has Bae Soo-bin. Win! So, last night I caught an episode on TV by accident (the program guide said Dream, and I was feeling a Kim Bum fix) – and there went my night (of sleep).

Holy hell in a handbasket, is this stuff unreal – and totally wickedly delicious in its sheer evil plotting silliness.

@ samsooki – I think i may have just found you another guilty pleasure (not like you have any free time, what between work, wife, newborn, recapping City Hall – but…..I think this may even be better than ToW).

Bae Soo-bin, what more can I say, hallelujah, he is THE only reason to watch, the show doesn’t even get good until he shows up. But hot damn, once he does, he shows up as the guy who had full facial reconstructive surgery, then learns to cook, weight train, swim, become an amateur photographer, tennis player, and drummer, all in the span of, I don’t know, 3 months. Awesome!

Anyways, I’m up to episode 10 (what can I say, it’s a slow work day – sorry about your situation, samsooki), and I can’t wait to be caught up because this drama is for real totally unreal. Gotta be seen to be believed. If On Air is a meta-drama, Angel’s Temptation is the uber-revenge fantasy of all k-drama fantasies. Wish I could have been in the room when the writer pitched the story, they must’ve all been drunk.

Oh, and forgot to mention, BSB shows his abs in every episode he’s in, without fail.

Angel’s Temptation – it delivers what it promises to deliver, in spades. Oh, and also forgot about the need for logic and realism, neither shows up in this drama.

  277. Added bonus on Angel’s Temptation:

The indescribably awesome Lee Jong Hyuk even shows up in an multi-episode cameo that totally caught me off guard, I had to rewind to make sure it was him. Then I realized must have been between days of shooting that three-way sword fight mano-a-mano-a-mano scene with Jang Hyuk and Oh Ji-ho in Chuno, and he needed a break. Or else he thought Angel’s Temptation was Green Rose 2 (man comes back with a new identity to seek REVENGE!).

No matter the reason, he popped up in Angel’s Temptation to mess with my mind, and steal every scene he’s in, well, because he’s Lee Jong Hyuk, and he tends to do that, it happens when he enters into the frame.

  278. @274 langdon813

Awwwhhh! Thank you for the tips, I shall try that.! I’ve been so jet-lagged ever since I’d landed here that my brain function is at bare minimum level. Haven’t even noticed those options! Just also notice my English writing is totally going down hill as well… after 30 years and still writing like above sentences… Sigh…

    @277 ockoala

So, does this mean it still worth watching? I guess?
after my next Sydney trip(leaving the day after I arrive home from Japan, Madness!), I’ll be home for at least 5 days, that will be a good time to start on that one and watch Red cliff with higher res. I’m already dreaming of my time at home… Hummm.

Anyway, thanks for the useful tips as usual, my fellow ICOMYM members. Sending love and hugs.

  279. @Samsooki
….so you’re stuck at the office, eh? So sorry…it hasn’t been roses for me either…working double shift this week also(til Sat night)…going home now…making bulgoki tonight, bring the missus and the baby over for dinner, ok? ;)

  280. Sorry samsooki! As I’m sure you can tell, we miss having you around. Hope things settle down for you soon!

Must be going around, I’ve been really busy with work the last couple of days too. I did manage to get caught up on IRIS, Autumn’s Concerto, and Hi, My Sweetheart last night (the latter has me scratching my head, because I can’t for the life of me quite figure out why I’m watching it, but I am). I hope to start watching Robbers tonight; I’ve been meaning to for a couple of days now.

My husband is in the man room tonight watching G.I. Joe. I told him to be on the lookout for the hot Korean guy, which interestingly enough didn’t go over that well. I, however, thought it was hilarious. :-D

How about Bad Couple? I watched the first episode of that a couple of days ago and it seems kind of awesome…is it??

No ideas on my sound bite from earlier today (Smile, You)? I think I’m doomed never to know what that song is. What makes it even more frustrating is that I also recognize it from a commercial, too. I just can’t remember what the commercial was for. :-(

  281. @ockoala,

“Anyways, I’m up to episode 10 (what can I say, it’s a slow work day – sorry about your situation, samsooki), and I can’t wait to be caught up because this drama is for real totally unreal. Gotta be seen to be believed. If On Air is a meta-drama, Angel’s Temptation is the uber-revenge fantasy of all k-drama fantasies. Basically think of it as a melodrama turned into a Bond movie, The Ultimate Bond Movie. :D For a melodrama fiend like moie, show is magnificent, beyond magnificent.

And, yes, I think I like Angel Temptation more than I like You’re Beautiful. Why? Because at the end of the day, this is the Bae Soo-bin of my wildest dreams. The eerily pretty (but manly) boy from Jumong and Painter of the Wind. The Greatest Support Oppa in the History of K-drama (I’ve said it — Shin Woo, learn from THE MASTER. Unlike emo boy, this dude was never afraid of putting his heart on the line and doing the hard thing, the right thing. Even if it meant going against his own dad due to his principles. Seriously, BSB in Shining Inheritance was PERFECT. It took me a long time to come around to LSG/HHJ, but I guess I realized, well, BSB IS MINE lol!!) in Shining Inheritance.

But, girls, now we know — NOW WE KNOW — mere dress rehearsal to playing 2009’s Sexiest Beast in K-drama. His character
    –cooks
    –cleans
    –plays drums
    –ride horses like a cowboy
    –makes figurines for mom
    –kendo
    –photographer
    –winning tennis game
–basically seduces 3 different women without actually being nice to 2 of them
–stabs himself in the hand, just to make a point
–drinks and almost dies but still drinks

And my God was he born to wear suits. I’ve not seen an actor own his wardrobe like this since Jo In Sung and Lee Jung Jae.

  282. @langdon
The sound bite that you are wondering about is the background music in the commercial for ….almost had it, but just got brain freeze…I won’t think about it, and it will come to me…will get back to you….

  283. @ belleza

*Agree* *WIth* *Every* *Single* *Word* *You* *Wrote* (see above for what I am agreeing with).

I almost said in my earlier post that BSB comes back from surgery as a cross between James Bond and Bear Grylls, but minus the guns and drinking your own urine to survive (but thought better of it, but now, what the heck, saying it!).

I knew as Jun-se oppa in SI that he was perfect. But now in AT, he’s God-like. How is that possible, and yet still acceptable to me? Because he’s portrayed by Bae Soo-bin.

Man looks GOOD, from every angle, he’s owning this drama without allowing a single ounce of camp to seep through. He’s bringing the levity to what is otherwise known as *what the ^&*^&&^**! is going on?!?!?” type of show. And he can kiss………….folks, BSB makes out all over the place, and I hope to god he does moar moar moar (suck on it Eun-sung! Go make out with your birds nest of a hair-do sullen boyfriend).

    Shin-woo – You Annoy Me. Jun-Se – I Adore Thee.

And even though I said I agreed with you, b, I still must quote you so these words live on and on:

“Unlike emo boy, this dude was never afraid of putting his heart on the line and doing the hard thing, the right thing. Even if it meant going against his own dad due to his principles. Seriously, BSB in Shining Inheritance was PERFECT. It took me a long time to come around to LSG/HHJ, but I guess I realized, well, BSB IS MINE lol!!) in Shining Inheritance.”

There is currently a three-way battle for most enjoyable currently airing drama I am watching – YB and AC, with AT barging in late. But holy heck, why choose? All completely different in every respect, so I love them all equally.

  284. @ ockoala and belleza – you two have convinced me to watch Angel’s Temptation… i loved BSB in BL and same as belleza, took some time to like the LSG/HHJ pairing. Only wish he got a lady too!! Once AT is done airing i think i’ll pick it up. It seems like one of those ones i’ll need to marathon cuz waiting ep by ep may kill me.

@ ockoala – i agree with you 100000% about SW in YB.. as much as i think he’s the ultimate nice guy, i can’t stand that he pretty much has yet to tell MN that he loves her and has not said a damn thing about knowing who she was from the first ep and yet still thinks he can win her if he pushes and prods a lil more. Totally needs to take a page from Tuo Ye’s manual of 2nd male lead. :)

@ langdon813 – i’m watching Hi, My Sweetheart too, and though it’s not crazy addictive like YB and AC and does not have the hottness and big budget factor of IRIS, it’s still nice fluffy fun. i’m only on ep 3, but i’m just waiting for Ugly Mushroom Head Show to turn into Hottie McTottie Show and for the love triangle games to really take off !

NCIS tonight… it’s one of those nights i wish i still had my DVR because i really just need a nap and to pack for this weekend. Plus i may actually have to watch NCIS:LA as well cuz Abby’s on it tonight!! I’ve noticed there’s a lot of cross-over episodes lately. Off to do laundry…

  285. @ langdon813

Sorry for bugging you… Where do you watch Iris? I haven’t havd a success, so far. Thanks for telling me(in advance:D)

  286. Good Lord…forget Robbers (for now). I’ve got to either watch Shining Inheritance or Temptation something-or-other (Angel? Wife? Must learn to read previous posts more closely before responding to them). All I know about BSB is that he has a movie coming out with my baby Kim Bum. Obviously he and I need to get better acquainted, sooner rather than later. :-D

    Sigh…

What I REALLY want to just wail about is the end of YB. I’m such a spoiler whore for this show…I want to know everything right now, I want it to be Wednesday right now, but then again I really don’t want it to be Wednesday right now and I can’t even think about Thursday….ARRGHH!!!. :-(

I want a Pig-Rabbit and a gaudy pin and and another 16 episodes, damn it!

@ celestialorigin (and anyone else who wants to know)

Send me an email at soompi if you can (if not I’ll give you my email address) and I’ll tell you. I don’t want to say here because I’m afraid the IRIS police will find out and shut them down like they did viikii. And that would be a very BAD thing.

  287. @Samsooki
If you are still stuck at work and totally bored out of your mind, you might want to watch this -
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRFu_rjbt-M …gotta love your KJH :)

“@everyone,please welcome a new member of YB lovers
    my 16 yo-asianifiedkris5″

Welcome! Yippee–Mother-Daughter YB marathon! I’d love to have a YB marathon with someone, but no one I know has the stamina. I managed to force Ep 1 on some visiting friends, and I think I hooked their daughter, but they’re too far away.

    @ Belleza :

OK, you convinced me with :

“But, girls, now we know — NOW WE KNOW — mere dress rehearsal to playing 2009’s Sexiest Beast in K-drama. His character
    –cooks
    –cleans
    –makes figurines for mom

And my God was he born to wear suits. ”

I have no idea who this guy is, but how can I resist checking him out now I know about his handicraft skills (who could say no to a guy who can whip up both a souffle and a figurine???)?

  289. 286 langdon813

I know I’m the same way, When I read mystery or detective stories, half way through books, I have to read the last 10 pages. I’m sure majority of others can’t stand this.

Anyway, I’ll do that when I get home and can find my password. Thanks a million!

  290. 286 langdon813

    Happy holidays!

  291. Wow! I seriously did not know how many folks in OT have not seen Bae Soo-bin in a drama. Get thee to the nearest Shining Inheritance feed, and meet the almightly Jun-se, I says.

Jokes aside, SI is only okay of a drama, and at 28 episodes really too long to slog through just for all the BSB scenes. But, sigh….it’s all worth it, he really is the best k-drama oppa of all time. and lovenyc52, Tuo-ye is pretty much a lock for best tw-drama second male lead of all time. I can sense it, he’s got that much heart.

And langdon-unni – it’s Angel’s Temptation, m’kay, make sure you pick the Angel one and not the wife one. Think Angel, Bae Soo-bin, cuz the boy is Angel with wings.

  292. @ ockoala

Got it! He’s the Angel. Which reminds me, the poster for this made BSB look deformed. So I’ll be glad to see him looking…not deformed. :-D

    @ celestialorigin

I normally hate spoilers and avoid them like the plague, but for some reason I’m terrible about YB, although I was this way with City Hall too. Now with IRIS, it’s a completely different story. I would hate to know anything in advance so I try to avoid all discussions about it.

Funny…as much as I enjoy IRIS, and I do, it’s such an “in the moment” drama. While it’s on, it keeps me on the edge of my seat, yelling “NO! WHAT!? OMG!” at the screen, just all up into it. But the minute it’s over…I never think about it again until time to watch the next ep. Unlike I’m Sorry, I Love You, Hong Gil Dong, Friend, Return of Iljimae…those will be with me for life. Probably because they scarred me for life, LOL! But mostly in a good way.

YB and City Hall are just in a class by themselves. I’ve been totally obsessed by them and completely overjoyed to be so.

  293. @274 langdon813

Have you seen Oishi Man? I’ve been looking forward to it since it was first announced but I can’t find it anywhere. Is there a possibility of it being uploaded on aznv.tv?

  294. @ doublethink101

I haven’t seen it but I’d really like to. I suppose there’s always a possibility of it showing up on aznv.tv but I haven’t personally requested it (they have a whole page of rules about posting requests and I’m too lazy to read it).

I’ll probably end up buying it anyway since it’s LMK. :-)

  295. @ ockoala, “Man looks GOOD, from every angle, he’s owning this drama without allowing a single ounce of camp to seep through. … And he can kiss………….folks, BSB makes out all over the place, and I hope to god he does moar moar moar (suck on it Eun-sung! Go make out with your birds nest of a hair-do sullen boyfriend).’

Just watched ep.6 yesterday, in which middle-aged, slightly overweight man transformed into mascular sculpture that is BSB. Ep. 1-5 without BSB was crack enough for me, but from your description, I’ll speed up my viewing for sure!

@belleza, hubby has watched Legend of Four Gods, too (and the Chinese drama Ghenghis Khan – awesome). Come to think of it, he watched it while we were on a holiday overseas. Since family will be taking off to Europe on a 5-week holiday over Xmas-New Year, I’ll have him and pre-teen watch what I bring along! Will definitely bring YB to get 12-old who-doesn’t- find-Wolf Boy’s abs-interesting-yet hooked. She likes GLEE and High School Musical, so maybe YB will work!

And folks, if you dig Stephenie Meyer, try Anne Rice. The reason I can’t jump onto the SM bandwagon is because I’ve read Anne Rice. Her vampire series is so rich and heart felt – and mature. “Cry to Heaven” is the only book that has made me cry, ever.

  296. @ belleza : But does he still need to eat a sandwich? He needs to eat a sandwich. (I’ve seen photos of some sort of fashion catwalk thing and went :O)

I feel the need to attach “Like a Boss” to your list, haha He Cooks LIKE A BOSS. Makes figurines for Mom LIKE A BOSS. Stabs himself in the hand LIKE A.. wait, what?!

  297. To JB, and to all dramabeans readers:

    Happy Thanksgiving!

People say that this is the time to consider the values that we hold close to our hearts, to reflect on the things for which we are thankful, to connect (or re-connect) with our friends and family, and to reach out to the less forttunate.

For us and our household, for my family, one of our primary “things” is that we try not be arbitrary with respect to the above. In other words, every day is the time to consider our values, every day we should think about our blessings, and there is no time like the present to bring our family and friends closer, and to help those who are less fortunate. If we were to act differently, to think differently, only at specific and rather arbitrarily determined times during the year, how hypocritical would we be?

Yet holidays and this Holiday remain special, not because we will be acting or thinking differently, but because convention and logistics allow for special events to happen to highlight what should be already in our hearts. And so, with that in mind, on behalf of Mama Samsooki and baby Ji-Hoon, I’d like to wish everyone the safest of Holiday seasons, the brightest of Holiday cheer, and the warmest of gatherings.

We are all limited creatures, and some of us are more fortunate than others, and so this life can be so random and unfair. For these reasons, I would like to urge everyone to take care (but not just during this Holiday season) to behave in a way that reflects this tyranny of opportunity. Even if you believe that you have earned everything that you have, the fact that you were born with the ability to earn itself is not something that was under your control, as it is axiomatic that the amazing miracle of life cannot to be taken for granted or ever taken lightly.

So be good to each other, be more patient with each other, be more honest with yourself and with each other. Apologize sincerely if you screw up. And finally, send JB an email asking for her to officially declare that KJH is mine and not hjkomo’s.

Oh and of course, and we should never forget how much we owe JB a big thank you for dramabeans. It is the coolest place on the internet, with the best peepz, the most awesome of authors, and the first and last website I visit each day.

    :D

  298. Thank you, samsooki, for your heartfelt words. Brought a warmth and happiness to my heart immediately.

Warmest wishes to everyone on this Thanksgiving weekend (in the US), and blessings for everyone everywhere.

Finally – *Now that’s what I’m talking about!!!* You’re Beautiful, if tomorrow’s final episode is as good as today’s, then I forgive your lapses for the last few episodes, you are beautifully awesome again!

  299. 2009 has been one of the best and worst years of my life. What made it one of the best was discovering the wonderful world of Kdramas, this fantastic site, and all of you guys. You will never truly know what you’ve done for me and I am very thankful for all of you, not just today but every single day.

Virtual hugs and hand-holding all around as we say goodbye to A.N.JELL. It won’t be the same without them around. :-(

But there is a bright light in the not-so-distant horizon called Chuno…

  300. it’s 420pm and i’m still at work…

what is wrong with this picture?!?!?!

    .roar.

  301. #300 is me. sighs. it’s been a long day.

  302. *laughs* I can tell, lovenyc52. Hang in there, almost done!~

  303. langdon813

Finally home. I tried really hard to find you on soompi site without a result. Your name comes up but I can’t get to the place I can click and get to your profile. I guess my current status can be described as brain dead… So reluctantly, I’m posting my address: admin at celestialorigins dot com. Thank you so much.

  304. @ celestialorigin

Sorry you had problems, not sure what’s going on there but check your email, I just sent you a message! :-)

  305. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  306. @ 299 langdon813 :

I’m so sorry it’s been such a rough year for you. I had a great year up until September and it’s been chaos ever since (karmic payment for the calm and space of the preceding 8 months…). I can’t imagine how I could have got through without YB to focus on and look forward to, but only really in the context of DB and the OT. YB just by itself as a solo pleasure wouldn’t have been enough to make things bearable.

THANKS all! (It’s not my Thanksgiving, but I’m celebrating our southern neighbours’ holiday with some transplanted friends this week, so here I am getting in the spirit.)

  307. @langdon
I’m not 100% sure, but I think the song that you’re thinking of was for the Prius commercial….not sure though

I hope all my OT friends and “families” will have a safe and happy Thanksgiving…think of me when you guys are watching the final episode of YB…

  308. Boys just wanna have fun!

O_o (not sure what to say about this one)!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyE6ASoHBzA

  309. back at my parent’s house and snuggled in bed with my laptop.

sneaked a peak at IRIS ep 13 even though i haven’t watched since ep 4 since i decided i want to marathon the whole thing after it’s done airing. i’ve been kinda bad and scanning through each ep just to see some TOP (he seriously has like 5 minutes per ep, if that) and was sad that eps 9-12 had zero of him. ep 13 he was in it for about a minute and said not a word. but my Tabi doesn’t need to say a word and i’m ok with that…. cuz he is hot hot hot!!

So, funny thought popped in my head whilst i was watching my 3 minutes of TOP… u know how there was an article chronicling the 100 hairstyles of TK in YB?? they need to do that for TOP in IRIS.. everytime he comes onscreen i swear he has a different hairstyle! and lemme tell ya, the boy can pull them all off. he is that hot.

ok now off to finish YB… sigh. i can’t believe this show is almost over. i will be glad to resume living though, as my life has totally revolved around this show the last 7 weeks.

  310. @309, lovenyc52

I have IRIS to thank for introducing me to Big Bang. I knew who they were, of course (and TOP, well, nuff said); but I never listened to their music until hearing their song “Hallelujah” from the OST. And now I can’t listen to it enough.

I love the skull shoes TOP wears when he’s on the job…and the not-so-inconspicuous green jacket he sports while on a shooting rampage. Because he is just so badass, he can totally get away with it. ;-)

  311. @ langdon813 – my first Big Bang song was Haru Haru and it’s still my favorite song and video. Just such an awesome balance of melody and rapping (Tabi’s growly rapping gets me everytime) and the video is so wonderfully angsty. I’m glad IRIS brought you to the wonderful world of Big Bang, even if my Tabi is only in it for so little. I believe he gets more of a storyline in future eps and i’m totally looking forward to it.

“I love the skull shoes TOP wears when he’s on the job…and the not-so-inconspicuous green jacket he sports while on a shooting rampage. Because he is just so badass, he can totally get away with it. ” – hell to the yeah.

I wish they would make a separate Hallelujah MV with the BB boys… even if it’s just 3 of them actually featured in the song, Daesung and Seungri could totally have roles too!!

Have you heard their new Japanese song “Koe Wo Kikasete” from the Ohitorisama soundtrack? English title is “Let Me Hear Your Voice”… beautiful song (GD and TOP are only at the end, but man Daesung has a heavenly voice).

  312. @ 284 lovenyc52
hottie show is coming up on this week’s episode! this eppie will be full of angst and bound to make me tear up, because our adorable couple will be separated! and then hottie show will appear and trample on the heart of the one he so dearly loved three years ago! i think hi, my sweetheart will be reallyyyy angsty and heart-wrenching from this point on. it’s gonna be hella awesome!
speaking of show, did anyone here go to his concert at mohegan sun? i desperately wanted to go, but curse the fate of a college student still under the iron fist control of her mother..

i’ve started 9 end, 2 outs thanks to OT-ers’ recommendation, and i was confused about smth. hyung tae goes on a vacation, but he unexpectedly returns much earlier than planned. was he on his way to spain to find his first love, or? i remember the sequence was, he arrived in front of his door when nan hee and jun joo were smooching in his apt, and then it back-tracks to him flirting on the plane with this girl. he said he got all his money stolen? was it the girl he was flirting with who stole the money? or did he actually lie and spent all the money on the trip to madrid? if so, why did he come back so early? was it b/c he was unsuccessful in finding his first love?
thanks to anyone who could clear up the confusion, and happy feasting!

  313. @ annieee – i believe i have only watched up to ep 3, so i’m assuming you mean ep 5 this weekend is when they separate and the angst begins. can’t wait!!! i wish show would come to cali for a concert! i know he was part of jolin’s concert when she at the Brens Event Center in Irvine, but that was years ago before i even knew who he was. sigh. i also gave up a chance to see him and jolin at Luxy in Taiwan a few years back too… again – before i knew who he was. dammit! as for 9E20, i believe what happened is hyung tae spent his money to fly there and he either couldn’t find her or decided that he didn’t want to (i’m not sure the exact reason). he was lying to nanhee when he told her he got his money stolen because he didn’t want her to know where he had gone and why. but basically because he didn’t want to stay in madrid as long as he was planning to, he came back a lot earlier than planned and had to scramble for a reason to give nanhee. sorry, it’s been awhile since i’ve watched it so i’m a bit fuzzy on the details.

IRIS ep 14 – TOP is hot. i want to share rings with him. and for him to make me coffee in the morning. the end.

  314. @311 lovenyc52 @310 langdon813

    I’m with you!

I love them! Somebody told me about Bigbang sometime ago and check them out and since then, I’ve been a fan.

Especially Haru Haru and Koeo kikasete, they are my current fav. my brother went “You have turned into real obasan.” while I was talking about DBSK and Big Bang. Oh, well…

  315. I have had the song Koe Wo Kikasete from the Ohitorisama stuck in my head the whole day. Kinda weird to be eating turkey while humming it in my head. I am also pretty new to Big Bang, but I think I am turning into a fan pretty fast.

  316. @ lovenyc52

yes it is ep 5! this sunday! im getting my tissues ready.
i am so sad that i missed the concert. because it turns out i could have totally went.
thing is, my grandpa is a mohegan sun-frequenter, and apparently, they can get free tickets/use allotted points to “buy” tickets to the show?! i only found out today during our thanksgiving dinner. someone was mentioning how dad got a new karaoke machine. she mentions that i probably won’t find show luo’s songs on it though. grandpa hears the name and says, “why didnt u tell me earlier? this guy’s performing at mohegan sun, right? i could’ve gotten tickets for you.” gahhhhhh. u have no idea how upset i was. everything could’ve been planned perfectly for an excursion to mohegan sun. for FREE. not to mention the concert was just yesterday. what luck : (
(also, dad tells whole family im a hard-core fan of show. distant relative from taiwan asks, “zhen da ma?” “really?” i proceed to nod my head sheepishly. i think the whole world knows of my fangirl obsession by now.)
and just to share, news of his concert at mohegan sun popped up on the nytimes! http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/27/nyregion/27gamble.html?ref=nyregion
thanks for the clear-up on 9 end 2 outs! im liking the drama quite alot, and who doesnt want a real-life hyung tae? also finally finished coffee prince (dont know why it took me so long to), and was left with a giddy feeling! but, probably no love story can ever trump city hall’s. jo gook & shin mi rae = INTENSE LOVEEE

  317. Hope everyone celebrating Thanksgiving had a wonderful day with loved ones. :D

    @ Samsooki

I was deeply moved by your Thanksgiving wishes….
until, of course, I came across the – “And finally, send JB an email asking for her to officially declare that KJH is mine and not hjkomo’s.”

Now, why on earth would you think JB would do such a thing? She may be on vacation, but her brain certainly isn’t. ;)
Perhaps, you should take Shin Woo’s advice and – LET IT GO.
You’ve done all you could….“gone to the end”
so just sit back, relax, and….hope karma doesn’t come back to bite you in *ss. :P

    @#277, ockoala
    “Added bonus on Angel’s Temptation:

The indescribably awesome Lee Jong Hyuk even shows up in an multi-episode cameo that totally caught me off guard, I had to rewind to make sure it was him. Then I realized must have been between days of shooting that three-way sword fight mano-a-mano-a-mano scene with Jang Hyuk and Oh Ji-ho in Chuno, and he needed a break. Or else he thought Angel’s Temptation was Green Rose 2 (man comes back with a new identity to seek REVENGE!).

No matter the reason, he popped up in Angel’s Temptation to mess with my mind, and steal every scene he’s in, well, because he’s Lee Jong Hyuk, and he tends to do that, it happens when he enters into the frame.”

Sis – All I read of the above, the first time around, was LEE JONG HYUK….
blah, blah, blah….CHUNO….blah, blah, blah….LEE JONG HYUK. :P

I wasn’t about to touch Angel’s Temptation, even with a ten-foot pole, but if Lee Jong Hyuk is making an extended cameo, then I may be tempted to check out his scenes. Which ones is he in? More info, please! :D

    @#308, langdon813

That Seo Taiji parody is hilarious! Wow, brings back memories…
But my first thought was – Aren’t the A.N.JELL kids a bit young for it?
I mean, it’s kind of like the Jonas Brothers doing a parody of RUN-D.M.C., no? :P

    ——-

So, I finally finished YB. It only took 5 hours to get through (between dinner, some football, and watching a movie). I’m glad I chose to watch today’s ep of Hero first, though. YB had a nice, cute ending, and it was fun and entertaining but not one of my favorites. (Yes, I know I’m in the minority.) It just didn’t pull me the way ROI or Tamna did this year. *sigh*

So, if you’re looking for something new to watch, check out Hero. With JB’s recap of the first 2 eps, you should be able to bypass the confusion over the set-up. Episodes 3 and 4 were much better on that front. I’m not a Lee Junki fan, so he definitely wasn’t the draw for me, but I like the characters and the story.
Team Underdog is awaiting new membership. :D

    Nice, cute ending…but still

  318. @ annieee – man oh man!!!! i’m sorry you couldn’t watch Show. i’ve heard he’s a great performer. but at least we get to see him on tv each week hehe. i read the article you posted and it says he performed at 2a.m. and 2p.m…which just makes me think.. of 2AM and 2PM and how much i love them lol! i hope the 9E2O explanation made sense… like i said, i’m not totally positive on the specifics cuz it’s been awhile since i’ve watched it, but that’s the general gist of it. i’m glad you’re enjoying it though!! we all need hyung taes in our lives huh?

@ celestialorigin and jtinma – i’m actually pretty new to Big Bang as well… i’ve known who they were for awhile now, but only within the last few months have i REALLY started digging into their interviews and MVs and such. and man there’s so much out there! i have almost all their music and i believe have watched all their MVs as well. but even as they have been pretty inactive in korea this past year (concentrating on breaking out in the Japan market), there’s so much older stuff that i’ve been kept pretty occupied hehe. I’ve also managed to convert a couple of my friends *ahem lb_tmi!* to BB fans hehe. they are a very talented group of *young* boys and i’m loving what i’m seeing and hearing!!
