Oh, where to start with 'Thirst'? Just my opinion, but It's such a cerebrally intoxicating piece of film ... full of innuendoes and deadpan humor, too.

The way I see it ... and this is somewhat of a *spoiler* ... you have a priest who has dedicated his life to helping people. He even volunteers for an experimental medical trial even though he knows that the majority of test patients die as a result. (In fact, he's the only one out of 500 in his session who survived) Once he becomes infected via a blood transfusion, he doesn't automatically turn into a soul-less vampire who violently kills his victims. The benevolent side of him still exists, and co-exists, with his tainted blood.

Then there's the heroine he falls in love with. A mousy woman who was kicked around all her life. Forced to marry a dimwit and living a life without luxuries. Once she becomes infected, and in direct contrast to the priest, she takes vengeance for all her years of suffering.

Rather profound.

I agree that this movie isn't for everyone, but for us Park Chan Wook fans ... it really does deliver.

@mayadee: i knew you were on LU :) I'm not some stalker or anything- but you reviewed two of my stories- I'm iridiscentillustrations:) But yes, I didn't like the ending either. It was just off and too odd.. it surprised me a lot, but idk if i'd ever make it one of my favorite movies.

@Snikki & @muffin

thanks for your two cents, guys. I might gonna watch it for free then. Well, let's see if I would like it or not, that will depend on my preference. I usually like odd movies, but I'm also very picky. Hopefully I will enjoy the movie. (even though I highly doubt it ^^;)

@ernie
as a matter of fact, yes I am. nice to meet you here. May I ask what is your ID in LU?
I pretty much like Mother, but not entirely enjoyed it. Great movie is not always be an enjoyable one to watch, isn't it? I like the plot actually, it's poignant and unpredictable. I don't like the ending either, it's an awful cliffhanger. But I guess that's intentional. And I really adore how Kim Hye Ja portraying a mother of an idiot boy. She should get the award for that, I think.

@mayadee: are you the reviewer mayadee on Lovers Unparalleled? just wondering :)

anyways, I have no idea about Thirst since it never struck me interesting enough to watch it.. but Mother I did watch, and well, it was totally an ending I never really expected. I think Kim Hye Ja was pretty good as the role of the dimwitted kid's mother. Won Bin was excellent at portraying a dimwitted kid- he had the blank look on down and it was def believable. This wasn't my type of movie, especially with the way it ended. But other people might enjoy- I just thought it was very odd. But def an ending I never expected, or anyone might've expected. There was also a very unnecessary inapproriate scene in there- I can't understand why that scene had to be there, but it was there.

I'm glad Park Bo Young won for Speed Scandal! I love that movie- especially that cute little kid. :)

But to people who have watched Mother and Thirst- if Mother wasn't my type of movie just because of the ending, would I enjoy Thirst at all?

My disturbo-meter is very high so I cant say that it's a heavy R versus a regular R. I say if you can see it for free then do so. But it you have to pay to see it, it's not all that.

@mayadee or even @Nom_Kitteh

If you have time, I say go watch it. It's now available online to see, so at least you're spared from wasting your money at the theatre. Also, you can always stop watching if you get sick of it. Who knows, you might even like it.

I was kinda interested to watch Thirst first when I saw the poster and its trailer, but now I kinda doubt that I'll watch it. Since you guys here are giving the negative feedback about the movie. So it's rather a very heavy R movie huh? Not that I don't like that kind of movie, but if it has so many disturbing scenes I think I'll give up to watch it. ^^;;
Please do tell me one thing, that I should consider to watch Thirst. Before I change my mind. thanks guys~

I like Mother a lot - a quiet and poignant piece that lives up to its title: Mother! Yet, somehow, I felt like having seen this before, some European film that gives you the wow and argh at the end. The story, the acting (especially Kim hye-ja of course), the cinematography, the beautiful country scenery all add up to two very worthwhile hours of cinematic experience. Highly recommended!

While Thirst was a disappointment, I wouldn't say it was bad. It just wasn't as awesome as I expected. And frankly, given the actors and the director, I expected a lot. I would have to say the story fell flat and the directing had an awkward flow. The entire movie was just... off.

I didn't think the sex scenes were graphic at all. On a scale of 1 to 10, with a 10 being Movie: A Frozen Flower and 1 being Drama: La Dolce Vita, I'd give it a 6.5 sexually.

Now as for violence, I'd give it a 8 or 8.5 maybe.
