    @ samsooki

    “But I love epics. I eat them up.”

    To borrow a quote out of context from There Will Be Blood: “I drink your milkshake. I drink it up!”

    Be careful, samsooki, there is enough Chuno milkshake for everyone.

    Current tabs:

    langdon wants Jang Hyuk.

    hjkomo wants the awesomeness that is Chuno in its entirety + the great Lee Jang-hyuk (and whomever else strikes her fancy).

    samsooki wants Lee Da-hae + Oh Ji-ho (but only if OJH turns out to be much improved, which I think he will be).

    ockoala wants to share in everyone’s bounty above. ;-)

    And for “trendy young starlet / star vehicle dramas tend to make tweeners go ballistic” – *gulp* shhhhh, don’t repeat this elsewhere, but alas it is true. I’ve lived through BOF and YB in real time, and it still gives me shivers when I think about it. Like langdon said a few OTs ago, it’s like staring at an oncoming train and the lights are blinding you, and you want to get out of the way but are rooted on the spot. Terrifying is the fervor, but really quite a sight to behold.

    I think saguek-crazed ajummas may in fact be an equally ardent bunch of fans, but we shall see.

  2. 452 langdon813

    “I am preparing to battle hjkomo now for the rights to Oh Ji Ho, assuming that Oh Ji Ho is as improved as he appears to be.”

    You just keep making me happier with every post. But I’m practicing my Jang Hyuk Is Mine defense moves as we speak, just in case.

    And no, celestialorigin, this in no way means I’m letting LMK move even one inch from my side, so don’t get any ideas. I see you over there clapping your hands…I got my eye on you. O_o

  3. 453 Samsooki

    Actually, I fear gluttony so I won’t ask for more than what I have. =) I can’t claim LDH cuz I fear a tidal wave of Soompiers coming to get me. I might as well just watch meekly and raise my hand before speaking. No claims from me. I am happy with KJH and Binnie.

    But as for Jang Hyuk, here’s the thing. Most of you guys have seen Jang Hyuk in a number of things, like:

    Chuno (KBS2, 2009), Tazza (SBS, 2008), Robber (SBS, 2008), Thank You (MBC, 2007), Successful Story of a Bright Girl (SBS, 2002), and movies – Rabbit and Lizard (2009), Windstruck (2004), Please Teach Me English (2003), Volcano High (2001).

    But I’ve only seen him in Successful Story of a Bright Girl, and I really didn’t like him in this drama (I also saw Windstuck, but I don’t remember him in the movie?). Successful Story is your a typical arrogant rich boy falling for a poor angelic girl kind of drama, and so it shouldn’t be too hard to act in it. Most k-drama stars can do this kind of acting with their eyes closed, but half the time, Jang Hyuk actually LOOKED like he was asleep, waking up only when it was his turn to say a line.

    Also, re: Oh Ji Ho – my first impression of him was in Super Rookie, and I thought OJH was out-acted by Eric Mun, the lead rapper from the group Shinhwa, which was a little surprising, since I grew up with Shinhwa and I never thought Eric Mun could act. But Oh Ji Ho has done a lot since, and has really upped his popularity and presence.

    I guess it is about time to wipe the board clean and watch these actors without prior knowledge or bias.

  4. 454 Taohua

    Wait Wait Wait…Me five for the Chuno-mania!

    And since hjkomo got to call tabs on LJH…then I guess I’ll have to settle for Han Jung-soo and Kim Ha-eun….and the awesome visuals of Chuno…

    but Chunderalla definitely needs a cameo in this! I’ll even take Jin Yi Han :)

    Off to check out the new trailer (it’s awesome that all the blogs I frequent are really enthusiastic about Chuno)

  5. 455 Taohua

    Samsooki—did you watch Successful story of a Bright Girl because Jang Nara was in it?

    The only actor I remember liking in that drama was Ryu Soo-young and he played the evil guy. I was not impressed by the story…actually it reminded me a lot of Taiwanese dramas for some weird reason…like Prince turn to Frog (though this is a remake of the kdrama Save the Last Dance). The way the main leads meet was so random and I really didn’t like Jang Hyuk’s character.

  6. 456 Samsooki

    @455, Taohua -

    Yeap, I saw My Love Patzzi, thought it was really cute. So I went ahead and bought Successful Story of A Bright Girl… and was underwhelmed immediately. Jang Hyuk was so… disinterested in everything. How can you be bored in the same scene as Jang Nara? lol.

    re: how the lead characters meet: Jang Hyuk para-gliding in the deep deep countryside and coincidentally landing in Jang Nara’s tiny outdoor bath tub as she is taking a bath??? How likely is that to happen, even if it were para-gliding day and hundreds of paragliders were in the sky at the same time? Are you kidding me? lol.

    That said, Jang Nara did a yeoman’s (or yeowoman’s) job in her performance. She never gave up on a scene, ever, she worked hard through-out, she kept her satoori (country accent) consistent, and she cried in fine form, in keeping with long and distinguished k-drama tradition of lead actress playing angelic poverty-stricken characters who suffer (and then later overcome) tremendous loss and suffering.

    Higher Power of This OT, I now present this piece of easy evidence y the witch must die. I acknowledged she was shedding pretty hair and her outfit was at her blah-est when she had this specimen+mane sleeping next to her on the same mattress and all she did was made him wash her toes and OWP. GUILTY as charged, DEATH by thrown into my boyrem!!!!

    @ Samsooki
    “Oh my god… if that is what Chuno is going to be like…. how will I ever get any work done in January?
    EPIC!!!!!!
    I am now 100% behind Chuno.”

    I’m echoing ockoala -
    Dood, what took you so long???

    Watch CitC, and you’ll be looking forward to Kim Ha Eun, too.
    Dood, you seriously need to watch some of Jang Hyuk’s post-military service performances. He still hasn’t reached his full potential, but we’re putting our trust in PD Kwak Jung Hwan. I mean, look what PD Kwak did with Lee Chun Hee!

    For a pre-M.S. earlier peek at what JH’s potentional was, watch Into The Sunlight and his love story with Kim Ha Neul, BFF with KIm Hyun Joo, and complicated family ties with Cha Tae Hyun.

    “I didn’t really “get” Chuno until I saw the last trailer. Now I get it. I am preparing to battle hjkomo now for the rights to Oh Ji Ho, assuming that Oh Ji Ho is as improved as he appears to be.”

    @ Taohua

    I’m not a yok-shim-jaeng-i (greedy) like Samsooki.
    I’m perfectly willing to share the greatness that will be Chuno. The more love for Jang Hyuk, Lee Jong Hyuk, Han Jung Soo (and maybe even Oh Ji Ho), the better.

    Did you finish CitC???

    @ 449, ockoala

    Love it!

    @ hjkomo

    *thud*

    Don’t know how in the world I missed that interview, but thank you. THANK YOU!

    I’m being told to get out of this chair…but I don’t wanna. What’s wrong with cereal for supper once in a while? And does the laundry HAVE to be done tonight? Will we die if it isn’t??

    I mean, really. :-(

  12. 462 ockoala

    @ langdon-unni

    This illustrates why we all need our own set of oompa loompas to run our household, and chuck fat rapacious German boys into a river of chocolate.

    Laundry shcmaundry, ever heard of turning your underwear around, I’m sure the Mr. knows what I am talking about.

    And no, I don’t engage in such behavior, I’ve been told I have OCD, and a very severe case of it. True story from last weekend – play date at my house, and little boy comes running to me every few minutes screaming “Mommy, look at the mess they are making!” while I reassure him this time, it’s okay to make a mess, and I will clean it up. Then he tells another kid’s mom “______ is so messy, I’m going to clean up now because I want my mommy to be proud of me.”

    Lesson: I need to lay off the poor kid before I turn into a certain mom plus 8.

    This is like the longest thread in the history of long open threads.

    @belleza

    “This Belleza does not like green eggs and ham. This Belleza does not like them, Sam-I-Am!!”

    You’re so picky Belleza. You’ll never grow to be tall as your sisters if your so picky [I'm projecting here since this is what my mom used to say to me]. Sometimes some moldy eggs and ham is just the thing for what a growing body needs.

    @ everyone

    I just came home and hubby had a nice surprise for me except its kind of not exactly my thing though its really nice. Apparently I forgot it was our anniversary a month or so ago and he got me a belated very expensive purse. I’m pretty laid back about birthdays and anniversaries to the point of forgetting them. I’m going on a business trip to London this week and he wants me to take it with me so I can remember him while I’m away. haha. like I’ll forget I have a hubby back home just because I’m gone for a week. Does he think he is married to the guy from momemto?

  14. 464 celestialorigin

    @441 Samsooki

    LMAO!!!

    It’s actually for Miss Langdon. What a profound sentiment! it says it all… Tears streaming down on my cheeks…

    @452 langdon813

    LOL! How did you know? You must be a psychic!

    Boy, I’m catching up with you all from a company computer… I’d better sign off before anyone sees.

  15. 465 nycgrl

    @ ockoala -
    “Laundry shcmaundry, ever heard of turning your underwear around, I’m sure the Mr. knows what I am talking about. ”

    When I was in HS one of the school advisors went on our class European trip as a chaperon and she took 2 pairs of underwear and lots of pantyliners. You figure out the rest. I still shudder at the thought.

  16. 466 ockoala

    @ nycgrl

    You are I, we’re so alike on this one. I not only forget my wedding anniversary every year, I confuse the actual date all the time with one of my kid’s birthdays. But saying “its kind of not exactly my thing though its really nice” about an expensive purse is heresy! It’s totally my thing, hee, and hubby knows it and just sighs and says he has to work harder. That was a totally sweet gesture on your hubby’s part, I approve.

    Have a safe trip to London (lucky you!), you know I love NYC, but London is actually my absolute #1 most favorite city in the world – in fact, all of England is my dream backyard. I lived there for awhile during my college days, and the entire experience is colored in frosty grey-tinted background colors.

  17. 467 hjkomo

    @ nycgrl, ockoala

    Ditto on the anniversaries/birthdays…or any holiday for that matter. That’s why we’re the BAH HUMBUG household. As for gifts (I hate shopping), hubby takes great pride in the occasional flowers – just because. Trader Joe’s, $5.99. Why waste money otherwise? It’s much better spent on wine. ;)

    @ belleza

    What’ll you do if the twins get a sudden craving for green eggs and ham?
    So what if their papa’s a womanizing philanderer…don’t hold them responsible for the sins of the father. ;)

  18. 468 ockoala

    @ 465 nycgrl

    One sound in response to your high school trip story: ewwwwwwwww……
    And I don’t even want to know why you knew the person only brought 2 pairs of underwear.

    @ hjkomo

    Hear hear, more wine, less flowers. I am so unsentimental, I’ll put the flowers in a pot and never look at them again, and poor hubby mopes around the house.

    Also, take care calling belleza’s baby day a you-know-what, don’t want baby daddy’s fan’s to go all ninja assasin on you. Even if he is in fact a you-know-what.

  19. 469 ockoala

    Vote time. Which one do you guys like better:

    womanizing philanderer or philandering womanizer?

    And is there a difference, i.e. one conjures up and image of X and the other of Y, and X is more palatable than Y for whatever reason.

    Just curious. :-P

  20. 470 langdon813

    @ 464, celestialorigin

    Trust me, the profundity is all ockoala. What I actually said was probably more along the lines of “OMG, it’s like a train coming at me and I’m scared” whenever I ventured into the YB recap comment section.

    And yes folks, supper is simmering away nicely, one load of laundry in the dryer, another in the wash. Divorce avoided for one. more. day.

    @ nycgrl

    Your husband sounds awesome. Mine is too, most of the time, but the last two Christmases and birthdays prompted me to just give him a list of things to choose from this year. For some reason the last two years I was like, “have we met?” because he was SO far off the mark. ;-) Anniversaries are no big deal after you’ve had 26 of them…we might go out to eat but that’s it.

    I loved London too…Sundays in Hyde Park are the best!

  21. 471 crzycpl

    @ nycgrl

    Welcome to London where it’s always miserable and raining! Remember to bring a brolly with you cos we’ve had so much rain here lately.

    @ 466 ockoala

    Come visit me in London!! We’ll see the sights by day, eat at Michelin restaurants, drink at the coolest bars and then stay up all night watching kdramas and eating ramen!! Come! Come! Come! :D

    @ 461 langdon813

    LOL, I know what you mean. Lately, with work and all, I only get time to watch WISFC and CD and AC when I get home late in the evenings and that means eating dinner in front of the computer screen. Which also means that I leave instructions for the Mr to make dinner and do laundry before I get home. :D It’s working out brilliantly! Hehehehe

    @ 441 samsooki

    LOL! You are too funny.

  22. 472 hjkomo

    @ ockoala

    I was just thinking that I was being redundant with the “womanizing philanderer”…
    until I read your post.
    How about philandering cradle-robber? I can’t think of anything better at the moment.

    And what are the odds of a little sum’in, sum’in going on with Sienna Miller? They were awfully flirty at the G.I.Joe promos in Korea… ;)

  23. 473 ockoala

    @ langdon-unni

    You sell yourself short – I constant repackge your bon-mots and on-dits and pretend something witty is coming out of my mouth.

    And would missing clean underwear and one meal cause Mr. langdon to say the dreaded D word? I don’t think so, he’ll probably appreciate you more when the hot food comes and the clean clothes magically appears. And really, doesn’t he have functioning hands himself? Nonetheless, I’m glad WWIII did not happen in the langdon household tonight.

    @ crzycpl

    I would, I would if I could, visit you in London I mean. My last trip was 5 years ago, and involved me taking the overnight train back from Edinburgh to London because I could not take another day of Scottish food. But I would need to schlep myself there with my little girl draped on my back (she’s *very* attached), but then again, two ladies in London sounds mighty fine to me. I’ll let you know when I plan a trip there.

    My favorite candy bar I can only buy in England – the Boost bar.

    @ hjkomo

    I think I pick philandering womanizer (no offense to your first selection above), because Britney sang “womanizer, womanizer, womanizer, you’re a womanizer” all the while writhing around like she had Parkinsons (time to give Han Ye-seul lessons, B).

    “Philanderer, philanderer, philanderer, you’re a philanderer” doesn’t quite have the same catchy ring to it, don’t you agree?

    And to your last question – I plead the fifth, don’t even want to go there. (psst, who knows? but I wouldn’t be surprised either way)

  24. 474 cingdoc

    @nycgrl
    I ‘m also jealous of your trip…our trip tp HKG has been postponed soooo many times that my kids don’t even ask anymore ( Olympics, me in the hosp., Grandma decided to come to the States instead, and the latest- H1N1 scare).Have fun, and carry your purse proudly…it’s a scarce thing ( at least in this household) that a husband actually get anything remotely “non- household” gift…count your lucky stars ;)

    @anniversaries/birthdays- we only celebrate the kids’ and the elderly’s ( Mom),,,,since I have severe allergies, Hubby always brags that he doesn’t have to worry about flowers for Valentines etc…We’ve been together so long ( going 24yrs) that we just buy what we really wanted and then just tell the other that we’re good for another year’s worth (of Christmas, Valentines, anniversary, and birthday) ;)

  25. 475 nycgrl

    haha you guys are all acting like I’m going to london for a romantic weekend getaway. The reality is when I’m traveling for business its very not interesting or fun. I never get out. Its usually breakfast meetings, all day meetings, lunch meetings, dinner meetings and spending the evening prepping for the next day’s set of meetings and then repeat until I fly back out. The only time I get to myself is at heathrow on the return trip and I’ll slurp on some oysters and drink some wine before boarding time.

    Thanks for the weather tip. I’m usually in London 1-2 a year. October and June has usually been pretty nice for me but this is my first December trip.

    The problem with the bag is its a nicer bag than what my MIL has which my husband also bought her and she will immediately know how much her son spent on me and not on her (korean moms and their sons is whole OT #113 topic) which can cause relationship problems. I can never carry the thing in front of his family or I’ll set tongues wagging.

  26. 476 lovenyc52

    omg i don’t check OT for a day and comments increase exponentially…

    anyway just wanted to drop in to say THANK YOU to JB and all of you wonderful people who recommended What’s Up Fox. I am 5 episodes from finishing and am loving it. It’s nicely paced and I’m loving all the characters – and especially that nobody is evil!! It has that 9E2O realistic feeling that i adore. And really can the boy be ANY more adorable. Just from pics i thought he was only ok, but it’s really onscreen that he shines. AND he’s not even an ICOMYM (for me anyway). Thorougly enjoying it and can’t wait to finish…. :) :) :)

  27. 477 hjkomo

    @ ockoala

    Philandering Womanizer, it is then. :)

    @ belleza

    Hope you can get some child support, though. ;)

    @ cingdoc, ockoala, nycgrl, langdon813…and any other married folk

    Very early on in my brother’s marriage, I once asked him what he was going to get his wife for Valentine’s Day (or her birthday or some other occasion like that), and his response was – What for? It’s all the same money (shared bank account) anyways. At the time, way back then, my mouth dropped, and I thought he should, at least, think of something nice to do for her. But now, I’m exactly the same way. I think we all are to some degree. Hubby and I are in complete agreement that we don’t need any more crap. ;)

    @ nycgrl
    “(korean moms and their sons is whole OT #113 topic)”

    I guess my mom and brother won’t fit in well in that discussion.

  28. 478 cingdoc

    @Winter Solstice (???)
    To all my Chinese OT friends – according to my Chinese calendar ( and just been reminded by my sister), this year’s Winter Solstice ( the festival that EVERYONE have to be home for dinner- eating “tong yuan”/ glutinous rice flour balls) will fall on 12/22. I’m sure most of us will have the get- together on 12/20 Sun instead…and you wonder why I can’t seem to lose that last 6 pounds…yikes…another food fest :(

  29. 479 simplesim

    @441 samsooki
    Lol… Your ‘Eloquencifience’ is amazing! Ooooh, and your casting of JB as Lady Mishil and belleza into So-Hwa? *chortle*
    Please, please Samsooki, I beg of you to preserve your sanity and not turn into Kwang Whe!!!

    Now, turn your eyes on Jang Nara. I love her since My Love Patzzi, also followed with Successful Story of A Bright Girl, Love is All Around, Wedding (poor thing so soppy and tired looking – hate the story line, 2nd lead and 2nd girl) and The Mischievous Princess/My Bratty Princess.

    Can I recommend you to watch The Mischievous Princess even though its in Mandarin? Normally, I will not watched a dubbed drama but I couldn’t stay away from Jang Nara in this cute chinese ‘sagueky’ series (33 episodes). JN is so very, very pretty as the princess (more so than in any kdrama) and Alec Su is great/dishy as the lead (but alas, albeit a bit ‘short’ hear, hear my doppelganger cingdoc).

    Aaannd, if you don’t know, its about a girl act as a guy (hoodlum) mixes with HGD characters…what more do you need? :-)

    @452 langdon813
    Boy, I’m catching up with you all from a company computer…
    Ditto, sister in crime! That’s how bad my addiction is…

    @cingdoc
    You ARE MY doppelganger… will write more about it another time as I am risking my job just to save Samsooki’s sanity and hope to prevent the wrath of The Great Belleza being cast as So-Hwa! I can’t stand So-Hwa and Ducky ‘shaking head’ Princess…:-D

    Re: QSD, stop watching at about eps38-39 but still drooling at the mention of Bidam and Alchen. Lol

  30. 480 belleza

    “Lol… Your ‘Eloquencifience’ is amazing! Ooooh, and your casting of JB as Lady Mishil and belleza into So-Hwa? *chortle*”

    Hmm, this kinda works . . .

    Chil Sooki: SSOOOHHHHWWAAAAAAA!!!!
    Bellezahwa: Onos!!! Gotta run from Chil Sooki!!! So what if I’ve been catatonic for 20 years, I got my Air Jordans!!
    Chil Sooki: SSOOOHHHHWWAAAAAAA!!!! HASTA LA VISTA BABY!!
    Bellezahwa: Help!! Help!!! Help Byung Hin-Oppa!! Think about our children Ji Hoo and Jung Pyo!!

  31. 481 belleza

    Oh and thank you writers of Queen Seon Duk and Live Shoot Syndrome.

    Because this show, post-Mishil, basically lives off us the Legion of Bidam Fangirls, the writers have given up and were unable to fully turn Bidam into Evil Bidam. And as a result, they kinda threw the Deokman/Yushin love story under the bus, and now it’s full on Deokman/Bidam. First time I ever seen the Rival Romantic Guy, WIN (or at least half-win. Don’t think Bidam will make it to his wedding day. Ask LBH how hard that is in a drama lol)

    Thank you live shoot, or should I say Love Shoot. Sigh. If Deokman stabs you in the back, you can still marry me Bidam!!! I’ll make you Korean Fried Chicken for the rest of your life, mm kay? ;) ;) And don’t worry about the kids, no drumsticks for them!

    We haven’t seen this level of rewriting since East of Eden. It’s glorious. I love it.

  32. 482 reluctantbutaddicted

    @ 446 samsooki,

    Thanks for the explanation of MiSa. I vaguely recall the scene from Goong you mentioned, but I was watching such a woefully bad subtitled version I got in Asia (clearly subtitled from Chinese by someone who spoke neither English nor Chinese) that the man-bap thing just didn’t make it through. I didn’t know about the online sources (eg aja-aja and withs2) back then, so I just took what I could get. I’ve sat through some very sad subtitles. And consequently have for some dramas only the fuzziest idea of what went on.

    But I think your explanation may have cured me of wishing to study Korean.

    @ all :

    You’ve convinced me to watch Chuno now. I’m not usually very interested in the historical series, but I don’t want to miss the excitement of watching with you guys.

  33. 483 Taohua

    @belleza
    Have the ratings increased? Or at least for the episode where Deokman tells Bidam she cares for him/loves him? I can’t say I’m surprised that they changed the writing to make fans happy (especially after this year)…this is MBC we are talking about and they seem pretty obsessed with ratings. I wonder if they’ll make Hero head to the chopping block if ratings don’t go up…though Lee Junki has a lot of fans and maybe they don’t want to incur the wrath…

    I saw some recent stills for QSD and wow…Deokman/LYW aged a lot in the series…even GHJ who was supposed to be like 50 plus looked young throughout the series. What’s up with the weird aging with LYW and the rest of the cast. Aren’t they suppose to be in their 20/30s? I’m so confused….

    But I’m glad that Bidam’s love wasn’t unrequited technically

    @hjkomo
    Not yet. My last final is tomorrow so I plan on finishing CITC this weekend hopefully. I really wish Jin Yi Han would do another drama, at least I get to see LCH in Smile, You

  34. 484 reluctantbutaddicted

    @ samsooki and taohua …

    “re: how the lead characters meet: Jang Hyuk para-gliding in the deep deep countryside and coincidentally landing in Jang Nara’s tiny outdoor bath tub as she is taking a bath??? How likely is that to happen, even if it were para-gliding day and hundreds of paragliders were in the sky at the same time? Are you kidding me? lol.”

    If we are going to start invoking the standard of “how likely is that to happen?” in Asian drama land, we’re going to get pretty fed up pretty fast! I usually recite to myself the Sherlock Holmes mantra before starting a new k-drama, “Just because it’s IMPROBABLE, doesn’t mean it’s IMPOSSIBLE”. Mother-in-law needs a bone marrow transplant and the only donor in all of northeast Asia just happens to be the detested daughter-in-law who herself received a cornea transplant from new husband’s first love (actually, I’m not sure about that part b/c I came into the series late, but it seems so)? Improbable, yes, but NOT IMPOSSIBLE.

    Just finished Ep 21 of Smile, You (now on Viikii, fully subbed, woo hoo!) and it’s official, I definitely have a crush on Chunderella. He’s so cuuuuute…I want to go back and watch every single Family Outing episode now.

    So, if I’m a very good girl and get all of my housework done, Christmas presents wrapped, super-spicy trash made, and watch eps 15 & 16 of IRIS tomorrow, that leaves Saturday and Sunday free to watch CITC. I think this is doable. Maybe. If I don’t linger too long in OT # 113, that is. So y’all try to be boring tomorrow, mmkay? :-D

    We’re almost at 500 posts, yo! The Everlasting Gobstopper of Randomness OT # 112 is almost history.

    I love this place!

    @ockoala and @mookie
    Just finished making winter melon soup ( it’s for tomorrow nite since I get out of work only @730)…wanna come over for some??? I put in extra dried oyster, dried scallop, the usual firm tofu, chicken meat ( no pork for this household due to diet restriction), and of course a big wedge of winter melon. It should be good since it’s going to be cold and rainy tomorrow nite =P

    @480, 481 belleza

    ROFL! You are awesome, bellezawha! Grinning like a loonie thinking of poor samsooki as Chil sooki.

    I am so gonna start watching from ep57!

  38. 488 ockoala

    @ belleza

    I’m just gonne start watching the last 3 episodes of QSD because finally, finally, fan-service done right. I watched the first 10 episodes or so and then stopped cuz it just was tiring, but once I can skip the bloated middle parts, I’m so back in! (like my simplesim-moni)

    @ simplesim-moni

    You probably made samsooki quite quite happy, with your Jang Nara love. OT has not been kind to Jang Nara in the past, save for her most ardent defender samsooki. Whereas Bora has a few defenders, until you came along, poor JNR got eviscerated quite frequently.

    @ langdon-unni

    Tee hee, love your Everlasting Gobstopper analogy (I see I started a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory mini-theme) – so apt. You’re watching CitC already, jeez, I’m feel so ponderously slow with my drama consumption lately. In-laws are in town actually, so I do have an excuse, but meh, still want to watch more.

    @ cingdoc

    You are too sweet! Your wintermelon soup is 100& Honkie recipe, baby, and must taste soo good. I’m gonna grab me a hunk of wintermelon at 99 Ranch this weekend. I have a nice ham bone from the Thanksgiving ham still waiting to become soup broth.

  39. 489 langdon813

    It occurs to me that I didn’t include Ninja Assassin on my weekend to-do list! This film of course trumps all and will be attended to immediately following the end of my work day tomorrow.

    You know what sucks? This is definitely a movie you want to see with somebody but no one wants to see it but me, so I’m going alone. :-(

  40. 490 Samsooki

    this place is a looney bin. lol.

  41. 491 belleza

    Alright kids, 10 to go. Who wants to be FIRST! to 500??? :D

    “This is definitely a movie you want to see with somebody but no one wants to see it but me, so I’m going alone”

    I really want to see this movie, but I heard it’s a gorefest so I’ll have to pass until video. (Love Takashi Mike, but honestly I can only watch half of any given movie. The other half, I’m watching the palms of my hands.) This Belleza is a lover, not a fighter. But This Belleza is also a fighter, so don’t get any ideas. ;)

    @ reluctantbutaddicted

    Welcome aboard the Chuno train. It may not be the speedy, ballistic tweener-making bullet train…but it’s more like an old faithful steam train (with the occasional Good, Bad, or Weird hopping on board) that years down the line, you’ll still find running smoothly and think, “Hey, they just don’t make them like they used to.”

    @ Taohua

    Good luck on your final. And enjoy the awesomeness that is CitC.
    Yeah, Jin Yi Han’s part in My Life’s Golden Age was small, but at least, we got to see him sing and dance. The man needs to be in another drama soon.

    @ langdon813

    Sounds like a good plan. Enjoy!
    I’ll be away myself (with limited internet access) enjoying great food and wine in Sonoma, so I won’t be around much to distract you with Chuno-related squee-ing. But please keep us updated. :D

    I’m still deciding what to subject hubby to watching over the weekend. Being stuck in the inn’s room with only one TV and no escape…should I catch up on IRIS, Friend, or a kmovie…hmmm *diabolical scheming begins*…

    @ cingdoc

    Your winter melon sounds perfect for this weather and my current condition (another cold. had jook for dinner tonight). I’ve only had it once, when I was visiting a friend’s house in college…his mother’s winter melon soup was delicious.

    @ langdon813

    Alone?! How about calling your son for an early Christmas present (from him to you)? Yes, it’s a gore-fest. Even hubby nearly jumped out of his seat a couple times (I love it when that happens, and I get to mock him endlessly). I’m a jumper/screamer/squeemish-hide-behind-hands-er.

    @ Samsooki
    “this place is a looney bin. lol.”

    Speak for yourself.
    :P

  43. 493 belleza

    Around Christmas or New Year’s, our family likes to do a good ol’ hot pot. It’s one of my favorite things, really, and I’d rather have that than a formal feast. But last year, we went with a Korean spicy seafood soup base (rather than a sesame oil-based sauce base) and we just went nuts. OMG it was good. :D

    @cingdoc,

    Yeah, actually, do you ever wintermelon soup with spare rib bones? My mom often will do a basic chicken soup (with herbal “medicinal” seasonings) with wintermelon, but on special occasions, she’ll go for the rib meat to make a richer broth. I liked that you’re using dried scallops and clams in there. Really good that way.

    @490 Samsooki – Dec 10, 2009 at 9:51 pm

    this place is a looney bin. lol.

    Well, it’s a sort of a loony bin I come to after a looooooooooooooong 12 hours working day to have a bit of laugh, sanity and comradery. Thank God it’s here!

  45. 495 ockoala

    @ samsooki

    The first reviews of Avatar will be trickling in really soon. The world premiere concluded in London to a standing ovation from the entire audience. Take that for what it’s worth.

    You may want to pencil in a movie date with the misses in one week.

  46. 496 langdon813

    I’ll just imagine all of you there and it will be okay. Plus, like hjkomo & belleza, I’ll be watching it through my fingers mostly anyway. My oldest son would love to go with me, but he’s the manager of a video game store and working about 70 hours a week at the moment!

    IRIS is AWESOME. It just gets better and better. TOP is back, smooching and killing and generally sexing things up just by standing there…doesn’t get much better than that, LOL!

    Oh God, I’m getting punchy now…samsooki mentions the looney bin and I immediately hear Katherine Hepburn (Ethel Thayer, Thounds Like I’m Lithping) in On Golden Pond, calling to the loons, doing her crazy dance and calling Norman an old poop.

    I’m laughing at how our friends who don’t frequent the OT every hour on the hour like some of us (okay, me) do, looking at the post count on here thinking something MAJOR has happened in Kdramaworld…and getting SAVE BORA! BORA MUST DIE! CHUNO IS HOTNESS! And…On Golden Pond.

    Heelarious, as samsooki would say.

    Edited to add…belleza & cingdoc , please feed me. It’s only fair since you made my mouth water @ 486 and @ 493. :-)

  47. 497 belleza

    “The first reviews of Avatar will be trickling in really soon.”

    Kinda feel like the only person not looking forward to Avatar. I mean, they’re blue. Blue men!!! BLUE MEN!!!!

    Don’t hate me for my racism. :(

  48. 498 ockoala

    @ belleza

    Feed me, too. Actually, my house does the hot pot ritual every Christmas, New Year, Moon Festival, you name it, we eat hot pot. We each make our own hot sauce, to varying degrees of hot. I like to add satay paste to mine.

    As for Avatar – heresy! Burn belleza! Okay, okay, I was worried it was overhyped, too sterile and glossy, or both. But it doesn’t sound like it from the early peeps. Plus, they aren’t blue MEN, silly, the are Blue Na’Vi.

    I’m all for intersteller, intergalactic, interspecies grand love affairs.

    As for this ridonkulous OT, I credit the Kill Bora/Save Bora movement, the Chuno onslaught of promos, and the general samsooki-belleza induced looniness. And it feels so good.

  49. 499 belleza

    “belleza, please feed me. It’s only fair since you made my mouth water”

    Probably my favorite Korean food are the stews, especially on a cold cold day. The flavor is so robust and brawny, yet clean and enervating. Plus, it’s just lovely to share a hot pot with family. It’s not really about the food per se, but you are actively breaking bread with each other and feeding each other by putting extra meat, vegetables, and just your attention and thoughtfulness into the hot pot. And that’s why I enjoy it around this time of year.

    “We each make our own hot sauce, to varying degrees of hot. I like to add satay paste to mine.”

    Satay? Oh that’s a good idea!!

    “I’m all for intersteller, intergalactic, interspecies grand love affairs.”

    Bestiality is a sin!! Sin!!! Says so in the Handbook of K-drama!! :(

    “I credit the Kill Bora/Save Bora movement, the Chuno onslaught of promos, and the general samsooki-belleza induced looniness.”

    Seriously I don’t know WTH we’re talking about half the time because this page flows too fast.
