Park Shin-hye’s Love Request

Park Shin-hye, the 19-year-old star of the recent You’re Beautiful, is heading to Nepal for six days as part of KBS1’s Love Request. Like stars who have gone on similar trips before her, the program will follow Park as she donates books and school materials to children growing up in difficult circumstances, many of whom put education on the back burner in order to earn money at a stone quarry.

Park is busy as this year comes to a close; the day before leaving, she’ll host Melon’s music awards with her You’re Beautiful co-star Jang Geun-seok. She leaves for Nepal on December 17 and returns on the 22nd, after which she has appearances scheduled for the 29th, 30th, and 31st at a music function and awards ceremonies.

The Love Request program will air on KBS1 on December 26.

Please cover the Melon Music Awards!
Maybe if we're lucky Jang Geun- seuk will sing "What do I do" that night? Love his version of that!

What a surprise to me! Lolz.

I can't believe that Park Shin-Hye have a new incoming drama on Dec. 26th! But I thought she needed to take her break for a while -- but she's still hardworking as a actress! ((clapping my hands))
Anyway -- I am really glad to see this young actress Park Shin-Hye will do her best for her new project -- "Love Request" -- especially, I really miss seeing her with Jang Geun Seok in that best drama "You're Beautiful", yeeaa! (grins)

@Sonam
I also remember reading (not sure if here or soompi) that JGS was contacted about Goo Jun Pyo's role, but he turned it down b/c he wanted to play "Ji Hoo sunbae" :P
When BOF became a success at the beginning of the year with the huge ratings, I thought it was a mistake and a shame for both JGS and PSH because YAB's story sounded silly.

HOWEVER, after seeing and falling in love with YAB, I'm now extrememly glad that JGS and PSH weren't in BOF because I can't simply imagine anyone else as Go Mi Nam and Hwang Tae Kyung! PSH and JGS are just super uber cute as a couple and they're one of the main reasons why YAB became my favorite drama this year!

"I also remember reading (not sure if here or soompi) that JGS was contacted about Goo Jun Pyo’s role, but he turned it down b/c he wanted to play “Ji Hoo sunbae”"

Yeah, Jang Geon Suk turned down the role and instead opted for Beethoven Virus. Not sure about the accuracy of the notes though. KHJ was going to be Jung Pyo, but that got changed.

Park Shin Hye was one of the leading candidates for Jandi, and she was 18 years old for the part. Originally thought it would go to either PSH or Go Ara.

JGS and PSH were my original JP/JD picks for Boys Before Flowers, if it were a high school drama. If you rewind the situation about a year-and-half ago (i.e. before Kim Bum did East of Eden, Lee Seung Gi, Han Hyo Joo, and Moon Chae Won did Brilliant Legacy, Jung Il Woo did Return of Iljimae), you still didn't have a lot of choices from the 86-90 generation. The top names were Jang Geon Suk and Park Shin Hye.

I am so glad to see this couple on-screen again.... so excited!!!!
Just want to make it clear that "Love request" is like a Celerities Charity program , not a drama , right?
I also heard that JGS will be mc for SBS Drama Award as well , but the co host wasn't confirmed yet. ** Cross my fingers*** It'll be PSH again

@belleza
I didn't know that. Had never heard of JGS before BV and PSH before YB. Tho' later I found out I had watched 1/4 of her drama Tree of Heaven before I dropped it .
JGS would have made the perfect GJP. LMH was great but I always felt he looked a little too mature to play Domyouji and also he was a little too normal and regular if you know what l mean . Kim Joon was the only who who was perfectly cast.

Loved her portrayal of Go Mi Nam...she's the reason I decided to watch YB. I was hooked on the little nun w/the pink helmet riding a little pink scooter.

Hope we get to see more of her in the future.

That's very kind and thoughtful of her! Not only is she a talented, and hardworking actress. I'm glad she's using her fame and success for a good purpose. I'm sure, this will help shed light on the whole "children growing up in difficult circumstances" awareness. She's so adorable. And so lucky to go through such experiences! Keep up the good work, PSH! People may criticize your acting, but no one can say bad things when you help out the people who need it. Best wishes to you. ^^

I had not heard of Park Shin Hye, prior to watching her in YB...same goes for Jang Geun Seok. I wasn't just impressed by the fantastic chemistry of this couple in YB; I was amazed by their excellent acting and singing talents, as well...blew me away.

And now that PSH is going to be doing charitable work in this Love Request, it's really nice to see that she's just as kind in real life as she was in her role as Go Mi Nyeo. I am continually impressed by her, and look forward to watching her in her future projects.

While I thought that Lee Min Ho did an awesome job portraying Gu Jun Pyo, I can totally see Jang Geun Seok in that role, too. And, I know that Park Shin Hye could've given us a phenomenal Geum Jan Di...and their chemistry together would've been so much fun to watch. I'm a fan of Goo Hye Sun(loved her in Hearts of Nineteen) and think very highly of her...but, Geum Jan Di was simply not the right role for her, imho. I never felt the chemistry between her and LMH, and the absence of that really made it difficult to buy into their pairing at any point in the drama. Oh, well...in the end, if the way things worked out made it possible for us to have JGS and PSH, together, in YB...then it was all worth it! =)

I'm surprised at the comments about JGS as GJP!!!! I believe what really made BBF was Lee Min Ho. I checked out the Japanese version....kdrama was really different. Although I really liked the actor who had the role that Kim Hyung Joon played. I also felt that PSH would have made an excellent Jan Di....but the cards were to fall so that she and JGS were cast together in YB! That was the best match made by the casting director!

I hope JB will have story on the Melon Awards.....I'm sure there will be some nice flirting between JGS and PSH!

Always enjoy reading the comments!!!!

Would someone please translate what "hyungnim" means? I thought it was so cute the way Mi Nam called Tae Kung that and I felt it was a respectful title.

Thanks!

@32 Norma,

I certainly don't know Korean, but isn't "hyungnim" the more formal way for a boy to address a big brother(doesn't have to be blood related, though)?

its the normal 'feeding frenzy' she now a markable commodity and those behind her are going to work her half to death and beyond to make sure they can get all they can out of her while she the 'darling' of the moment. Hopefully for her sake the press doesn't get sick of building her up and decide to tear her down just to make a new story. It happened often enough it the past.

@33 sukispop

Thanks for your reply....I really don't know what it means....I'm fascinated by the korean words and love it when I can recognize them in other dramas!

I just assumed it was a "respectful" kind of way referring to him....but she never called Shin Woo or Jeremy that. Just as I loved the way Tae Kyung called her Go Mi Nam....there was a certain kind of feeling in the way he said it. :-)

@36 Norma

My pleasure, Norma. =)

Here's an answer for us, courtesy of answers.google.com:

형님(hyung nim)

"hyung" is what you call an older male like older brother when you are a boy/man.

"nim" is Korean's highest honorific. It is applied to someone important or to someone of great status like god, CEO and so on.

Of course, you can apply this to hyung as well if you believe that person is extremely important to you and/or yo respect him. But hyung-nim is particularly common among gang boss or between males that know each other very well.

Hope this may be of help. =)

I also think that JGS and PSH should be a perfect couple as GJP and GJD. JGS should be able to protray GJP's character in a more interesting and lively way. But LMH is alright for this role.

I like YB better because it is an original story. BOF's story has been re-made so many times (and I have watched all 3 versions) that it is not as interesting as YB.

In terms of picking the scriptwriter and director, I think JGS has made the right choice. Hong sisters and director Hong have done a much better job than those from BOF. But it is difficult to control the outcome i.e. rating.

I cannot understand why BOF can be so popular. Although I manage to finish the whole series, I found it extremely boring in the second half part of this drama.

YB should have done better if it was not put against Iris. So sometimes you just need more luck.

But I do believe JGS has built a good foundation for his acting careeer. He has been picking the right roles and doing a great job for each role so far. He just needs some more luck before rising to the top.

I am his die-hard fan now and will definitely follow his next drama/movie.

@39 Sukispop

THANK YOU....that's informative and I smiled because it's definitely the way Go Mi Nam respected Tae Kyung. I loved the way she would say it!

A note to those who haven't seen PSH in any other dramas....I'm watching her in Tree of Heaven....it's a MUST see! She's incredibly talented and it's a real tear jerker....and a moving role for a young actress. Her male lead is also very good......or I should say EXCELLENT.

I'm certainly enjoying this ride with JB and all the neat people who share their comments! thanks for allowing me to be a part of your world!

Dear JB,
Namaste!

I have been updating myself about Korean drama/movies through your blog....and I am greatful for that.
I was interested in PSH's visit to Nepal as I am a journalist working in Kantipur, national daily of Nepal. If i could know the organizers who are helping her to distribute/donate books and school materials to children, and request her for some time to talk to her...so that we could make some news out of it...as you know Korean artists have big fan base in Nepal as well, it would be like a Christmas treat to many of them.
So, could you please help me on this with some information on her program and organizer.
You can check my website for the authenticity of this request.

Thanking you!

Sincerely,

Smita Magar
Kathmandu,
Nepal.
