Jin-Bum couple in the Woman Who Still Wants to Marry

Aww. I’ll admit that when 20-year-old Kim Bum was first cast to play 32-year-old Park Jin-hee‘s boyfriend in the upcoming Woman Who Still Wants To Marry, I wasn’t sure how this would play out. She’s gorgeous and youthful, but Kim Bum — well, he’s practically a baby, right? But seeing the latest stills from the drama, I’m starting to think they make a really cute couple…
Their real-life age difference is preserved In the MBC drama, which stars Park as a television reporter and Kim as a genius musician in an indie band. Kim expressed his own reservations about the romantic storyline, saying, “To be honest, the older-woman-younger-man romance is a part that really concerned me. I’m sure that my co-star Park Jin-hee felt the same way. I even wondered whether we would be able to act as people really in love. However, as filming began and I started working with Park Jin-hee, I had the thought that thanks to [her character] Lee Shin-young the cold winter would feel warmer, and my worries went away.”

Kim had also hesitated to take the role after filming two dramas last year, which kept him incredibly busy (those would be Boys Before Flowers and Dream). Taking this role meant not getting much time off, but he met with the writer and director, “and I felt something warming in my heart. I think it’s my good fortune to have joined the team of The Woman Who Still Wants To Marry.”
In order to prepare for his role, Kim Bum has been busily learning how to play the guitar. He described his character as: “Ha Min-jae is a songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist as well as his band’s leader. Whenever I don’t have filming, I’m learning how to play the guitar.”
The drama replaces Hero in two weeks on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Kim Bum looks older in that hairstyle! And yes, they look cute together.
he’s gonna play a musician? wow..a rich potter, a fighter and now this..hmm..i’ll try watching this one..
I am still quite skeptical but I will wait for your reviews first JB before I watch it.. It is a big age gap difference, and it would be quite a feat for both actors if they are able to pull of a convincing romance..
Just want to wish the incredibly beautiful Park Hee Jin a happy birthday! As for young Kim Bum; It appears these days like every day is his birthday…
I will definitely watch this
must watch for me!
That hairstyle is definitely doing him wonders. I like. <3
I like!! I’m actually pretty excited for this.
Hey, Hero’s finishing in 2 weeks? Already? Poor Hero, flew completely under the radar. I’m looking forward to it after my drama plate clears some.
From 17 to 32 in a year – that is no small feat. He does look so much older with that hairstyle!!! Let’s see if he act like it too.
“To be honest, the older-woman-younger-man romance is a part that really concerned me.”
Translation: . . . throwing a temper tantrum didn’t work with Son Dam Bi. And then I realized . . .
“Park Jin-hee felt the same way. ”
Translation: . . . Jin-hee thought my NPW was turruble, turruble! And then I realized . . .
“my worries went away.””
Translation: . . . Jin-Hee Noona is SO pretty. Jang Geon Suk was right — noona love is best. And so I needed to . . .
“I’m learning how to play the guitar”
Translation: . . . study the Noona Killer master himself Lee Seung Ki.
I want his hair…I’m beginning to look forward to this.
Kim Bum looks good! Park Jin Hee is one of my favorite so I’ll be watching this one!
@ #10 belleza – LOL. i especially laughed hard at “Translation: . . . study the Noona Killer master himself Lee Seung Ki.” yes, it seems like lee seung ki developed and mastered “noona killer”
i too am reserving my opinion at this time, but as someone dating a younger guy – i can’t wait to see it!
kyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah~ kim bum is so HOT~
i want to touch his hair<3
drool………………………………………………..
Kim Bum looks so pretty. And both look good together.
@belleza..yay for Noona Love!
He looks older, but ah, I can’t imagine him being 32. Am I the only one? Then again, maybe he’ll make it up with his acting? hmm
@Sere, I don’t think he is playing a 32-year old in the drama. It is Park Jin Hee who is 32. It said in the article that their age difference is preserved in the drama.
Well, we’ll all just have to wait and see if this couple will work onscreen!
Ohhhh I never think that I will ever fall in love with younger man, but if I have someone younger like me like Kim Bum, hell yes, this Noona will love you, baby!
*rambling ridiculously*
Kim Bum looks sooo…..adorable?
My version of Noona killer, is still Jo In Sung. Damn I miss him!
Younger men? Yes please!
“My version of Noona killer, is still Jo In Sung. ”
Indeed. And Jo In Sung is Kim Bum’s idol. And so, if KB wants to be like JIS, KB must win over PJH. Noona love is your destiny, young Kim Bum — search in your heart, you know it be true!!
adorable indeed!
I 2nd all the hair comments!
I’ve never really seen what all the fuss was about with Kim Bum, (sorry, KB fangirls!) but seeing him here with that hair, wow, so cute!
Not that he’ll replace Jisub, Hyun Bin or Go Soo or anything… i’m jus sayin’!
ooooh, I love the way they did his hair and I love the way he’s dressed….the monochrome look. And no colorful scarfs. I am so sick of colorful scarfs. KB has such a great facial structure and he seems to look more masculine every time I see a new picture of him.
t I hate the way PJH is dressed in the first picture. Reminds of Jandi in BOF. I hope they didn’t dress her that way to make her look young.
@belleza,
Noona-luuurve? I got my first scent of that when I was a first year in college… she was my roommate’s older sister’s roommate…. lurrrve…. of course, I was much too much of a chicken to say or do anything.
btw, noona-lurve is a pipe dream.
It’s a pipe dream. It’s fantasy. Real life says that that noona has like 5 other (older) guys liking her too, along with a dozen other smitten kittens like yourself, and so the chances of NPW doing anything but getting you a pat on the head and some ji-gae cooked for you… well, you are seriously deluded if you think that NPW will result in PASS rather than EPIC FAIL. Lee Seung Gi should be censored for giving hope where there may not be any.
Just saying.
real is real. and noona-lurve is a pipe dream. i will watch this with very skeptical eye….
I just finished watching Kim Bum in Outrageous Women, where he played a 15 year-old with very awkward (but cute) acting, so even seeing him again at 20 is a little weird for me lol ^_^
“Lee Seung Gi should be censored for giving hope where there may not be any.”
Yes, but were you rocking Kim Bum’s HAIR???
Yes, but were you rocking Kim Bum’s HAIR???
No, unfortunately, I played hockey at the time and so I kept my hair shorn completely (tight cueball style crew cut) for ease of quick showers. I didn’t grow out my hair until after said noona had graduated….
As far as i am concerned noona-lurve should be placed in the same class as unicorns, dragons and manitcores.
@17 Brendel
*headdesk* I fail at reading!
@10 belleza -
you owe me another computer screen.
belleza, your comments are hilarious!!
anyways, the hair does help in making the two look more compatible! and look at that awesome jawline!
This sounds like Kimi wa Petto except he is a musician instead of a dancer
Is it me or does Kim Bum look significantly skinnier? I know he’s busy but I hope he’s healthy. He trained quite a bit to shed his youthful image for Dream, but his face looks so thin in these stills.
The coupling looks cute and I hope that the drama doesn’t suffer too much from following Hero. It’s going to face some tough competition from Chuno and Christmas.
Am I the only one who doesn’t like his hair?
Finally…Samsooki’s talking some non-delusional sense…(thank you, Ji Hoonie, for bringing Appa into the real world…now, if you can only convince him to stop torturing you with the clothing…
)
hehehe when I clicked on this page the header was this
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm96/javabeans122/blog/r_yonghwa_jgs_tae.jpg
When I saw that first shot of Kim Bum’s hair – it was like ‘Hey his hair is a Jung Young Hwa – Jang Geun Seok combo (with the reverse downward sweep of JGS!) He would be emo if he was not smiling. This hairstyle could make Kim Bum heaps more CFs – perhaps shampoo ads with his shiny pretty hair?
Kim Bum is such a cutie. The recent spate of mid-late1980s hotties – KB, JGS, LHM etc – has suddenly made me wish I was younger. Hmmm might be the ICOMYM effect too
@belleza – ROFL! You are a legend!
Correct me if I’m wrong, but is this story similar to the Japanese drama called Ohitorisama that just aired with WaT’s Koike Teppei and Arisa Mizuki ?
It’s similar story where the leading lady was 35 and the younger guy was 25 and they both were teachers at the school and she’s a single lady who likes to do things herself and realizes she may have a crush on the younger guy…
obviously the back story is different but the concept is same.
Both look very cute. Thanks for posting!
1. i, like many others, love his hair!
2. I soooooo wanna watch this. But the thing is, I think a lot of the drama is going to depend on Kim Bum and how he acts as the younger man. Since this is an May-December romance with a woman being the one, that probbaly means a lot of women are gonna be watching this – so it a lot of it depends on Kim Bum and whether he can pull off this sly/sweet/determined younger man. (of course, i’m not sure if that’s th characetr, but from the screen caps, i’m guessing so) that’ll make older women wish they had their own. HAhaha1
omg Kim bum! you look like such a player! >.< More so than those dreaded dreadlocks…
And for Emi, he was cute in Outrageous Woman, haha that's kinda how we got my friend to watch that stalker show. We all agreed he was cute, and I was so surprised he turned up in all these shows. =)
@kirara,
The show is really about 3 different women in different relationships. If I’m reading the casting right . . .
Park Jin Hee with Kim Bum
Uhm Ji Won with Choi Chul Ho
Wang Bit Na with Lee Pil Mo
“Noona is pretty” love stories have been popular in K-drama, since My Name is Kim Sam Soon. (Nine Ends 2 Outs kinda gives a more realistic appraisal of May-December romances.)
Whereas in Japan, it’s sometimes associated with the adultery love genre. For example, Tokyo Tower.
The prejudice against older women (and at 32 I wouldn’t call the heroine old at all…she’s hardly Methuselah!) is part of a wider picture of cultural anxiety and bad repression of female desire, of a desire that outlives the fixed social roles society metes out to women. It is high time Korean (among others) society was challenged on its preconceptions about female sexuality and love, and what better medium than a popular TV drama to mount such a challenge? ( I’m sure films must have got there first). If Kim Bum is serious about acting he should be able to carry this one off effectively and convincingly enough, if he is not, then he will fail to convey the substance of Eros. Eros is always the stuff that breaks free of what we are conditioned to expect and experience, of the socio-culturally fabricated images of happiness, and of what we convince ourselves to anticipate and want. A world where that kind of transcendence is impossible is, would be, a loveless world.
For the record, my dear auntie is a whole 20 years older than her, now, husband, and they have been blissfully happy for the past eight years (which is far more than you can say about more conventional relations). I’ve noticed with a great sense of satisfaction that, in Britain at least, the number of couples where the woman is way older than the man is on the increase (the very interesting artist Samantha Taylor-Wood, 43, is getting hitched to her beloved who’s 19) so, hopefully, in a few years the age gap (where the woman is older) will not be singled out as the main issue of the dramatisation of such loves.
I love May-December storylines. As an older woman, I find them endearing.
And Kim Bum is more handsome than cute in this.
there is something about him that is just so… yum.
hopefully i’ll be able to watch this show if it’s good – i totally dig olderwoman-youngerman relationship muahaha
I’m going to watch this for sure. We don’t get to see older women+younger guys as main couples in dramas often.
was crazy for dating a granny.
Do we know how big will be the difference between the partners this time? I’m curious because the last (and only) time I’ve seen a couple like this was in MNIKSS and that drama was a shock to me. I couldn’t (and I still can’t) understand how can a difference of 3 years between the man and the woman be such a huge problem. It’s practically nothing but everybody in the drama kept acting as if Sam Soon was some kind of a cradle robber and Sam Shik
“It’s practically nothing but everybody in the drama kept acting as if Sam Soon was some kind of a cradle robber and Sam Shik”
Yeah, but Sam Soon was depicted as an old maid. Borderline ajumma.
With Japan, Korea society has a strong sense of social heirarchy in their relationships. So, if somebody is “noona” to you, then inevitably the “big sister” dynamic influences the relationship itself. And that’s part of the appeal; in a classic “noona is pretty” story, the guy has to drop (some of) the chauvinist posturing and actually work to win the heart of the woman. That may mean being the more honest or vulnerable one, or it may just mean they have to actually present themselves as a viable boyfriend or husband type.
The main appeal of noona love is the notion that a guy has to “change” or “grow” to win the respect and love of noona. He can’t just substantiate his own desire and expect noona to go along. And his NPW needs to be strong.
And usually there’s a few OSS (Obligatory Shower Scenes) for noona to go “mmm mmm mmm!!!”
And sometimes it does even when the story doesn’t speak to it. Both Full House and BBF have strong noona love vibes to them. You can read the Song Yu Ri-Jang Geon Suk dynamic in Hong Gil Dong as noona-ish vibes. And Jo In Sung takes NPW to levels of Shakespearean insanity in both Bali and One Spring Day. The two most popular noona actresses are Kim Sun Ah and Go Hyung Jung.
And, of course, the theme song of all Noona Killers is Lee Seung Ki’s “Noona is My Woman” And, yes, Belleza LOVES this song. Betcha never tried this one on the college roomie’s friend, eh Samsooki?

Agree with #42.
And I think Kim Bum can pull it off. Will definetly watch this!
*excited* kim bumm ^____^
I love May-December love stories in general…but a 12-year gap is kinda extreme!!! It’s a relief to see that they visually look “good together”…WGM’s Buin & KHJ pulled it off because of their great chemistry & KHJ’s 3-dimensional personality… hope KB & PJH’s tandem works!!!
I pray that by the time this drama is shown, Viikii’s problem w/ MBC is resolved or else…I’ll have to wait it out till Feb to watch it!!! I’ve been sooooo FRUSTRATED ALL WEEK for missing out on my Assorted Gems, PASTA & Creating Destiny “crack”!!!
Oh and advice to Kim Bum. Don’t piss off Park Jin Hee. She’s friendly, but she can be fierce like Tyra in a fat suit!!
Park Jin Hee — Hidden Camera Prank
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJ_klUOWbx8
hey,
is it the girl look young or a guy look old… a 12-year gap, not really
I don’t like his hair. It looks like my hair except … I’m a girl. Lol, the guy looks gorgeous either way. The age difference is bothering me a bit … 12 years? +_+” … I can tolerate at most 6 but 12 is double that. ACK!
I’m watching this because it’s sounds interesting and well, it’s Park Jin hee.
i like Park Jin Hee ever since Money War and I also like Kim Bum but I don’t like love story whose character’s age are decade(s) apart especially if men is the older one but if the chemistry is great …why not? On this drama I feel the actor will be on the great part (and wishing!)
I also agree with #42
Also, Kim Bum looks very nice. I love his hairstyle now. Park Jin Hee is pretty too. I can’t wait for this to start airing.
Kim Bum and Park Jin Hee do look good together!
Any fans here over the noona love in Creating Destinty?
I just hate his hair…ug.
they look good together, waiting…
@epyc,
“Any fans here over the noona love in Creating Destinty?”
Yup. That’s what kept me watching the show until the recent adoption arc.
Also it’s done pretty accurately. There’s this one shot where they look at a reflection in a dark window. It’s kinda sweet . . . but it also shows them as they are. He’s this really cute guy with great clothes, great job, and a great smile. And she’s a single mom who’s not really in any way glamorized or caricatured. He’s smiling, and his eyes say “I love you.” She’s not, and her eyes says “Gawd, I look so old next to you.” In real life, the actor’s about 24 years old, and she’s 38 years old. So you have a 14 year gap, which looks like a 14 year gap.
And that isn’t to say a potential romance is “good” or “bad.” It just “is.” Park Jin Hee is very popular with guys pretty much from 25-40. If “Woman Who Still Want to Marry” was starring Eugene, Kim Bum would be giddy like a SES fan.
(BTW, Kim Jung Nan’s one of my favorite daily drama actresses. She and Lee Pil Mo were the only reason why I stayed with Creating Destiny, and their story arc was, again, a noona love story, albeit one only 5-6 years apart. Also, she tends to play single moms or female characters who get really screwed over by guys. Which I guess kinda reflects her real life. She and SIG were in love with 4-5 years, but his mom would not accept her as his wife. And, so, they could never be. When he got married to his wife, her name came up a lot.)
just have one thing to say… I think Kim Bum and Park jin Hee look compatible. The age difference can be seen but it doesn’t feel weird:) looking forward to this drama!
They look so good together. Actually I think this is the first time that I’ve thought that Kim Bum doesn’t look like he’s 17 years old. I think I’ll definitely be watching this.
Oh my giddy goshness.
He’s amazingly good looking. And yes, they actually look like they might pull it off. x]
I’ll prob be watching this- I’m also a fan of Park Jin Hee and so this is a double whammy for me:)
Well said Elizabeth (#42). I totally agree. I particularly liked the bit about Eros and the lovelessness of a world where humans can no longer be affected, overwhelmed by, or delight in, what does not conform to their preconceptions. Such a world will be wholly predictable and conformistic….quelle horreur!!!
I also concur with belleza@59 on the subject of Kim Jung Nam. While I refuse to blame any of the players for the shortcomings suffered by the “script that went astray” that made a mess of a promising story (You Are My Destiny, among others), the scenes featuring KJN and the “Ban family” remained engaging and worth viewing right up until the end. It is often the “grownups” that carry many of these dramas for me. I don’t think that there has been a Korean drama yet that didn’t have something or someone (Lee Yoon Ji in Heading to the Ground…) to retain my interest. Acting talent like Ms. Kim’s and Lee Pil Mo’s are always enough for to keep my grip on the sides of even a sinking lifeboat.
with that hairstyle, kim bum reminds me of lee min ki. isn’t LMK’s character in Dal Ja Spring, noona-killer as well?
this comment section is very entertaining. thank you for making me giggle, samsooki, belleza, djes…
Oh, my…Bummie is looking GOOD!!! I will most DEFINITELY be watching this!
@ belleza
Thanks for the info on Kim Jung Nam. She has a sad face that draws me in, especially now knowing her sad affair with SIG. Dramas do reflect real life and isn’t her/SIG’s fate known to us as a drama cliche?
I too love that glass reflection shot in Creating Destiny. Their pairing has a couple compatibility rarely found in other noona loves. Together with the little girl Jin Joo – a lovely nucleus family in the making! Wonder what will eventually unfold for them although I don’t really hate the real father. Oh, the adoption arc. Do we really need it??
Woman Who Still Wants to Marry. Looks like the new Queens of Housewives.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FS2WbSviJIw
“Oh, the adoption arc. Do we really need it??”
One thing I appreciated of Creating Destiny is that the main couple gets together pretty early and through actual dating they fall in love. No over-the-top comedy scenes, no big weepy bits. They’re so normal and their chemistry is warm and comforting. In other words, we’ve up to this point kinda enjoyed Eun Sung as living a normal, happy life kinda like our own. And then this happens pretty late in the show.
The adoption stuff actually has been done pretty well. After all, Eun Sung has a happy, very loving family, her late mom is close to her heart, and she had a great future. Until last week, it never crossed her mind, and though she did miss her adopted mom, she was secure about her memory. It’s a unique twist — the presence of the birth mother threatens to damage her happy, well-meaning life. She may lose her fiancee, and she will continue to be looked down in Korean society. She may start questioning her own nurtured personality. And so on.
It can create a compelling dilemma — that your normal, happy life is suddenly taken away from you. Because we didn’t see this coming either, we feel her pain and her anxiety as part of our own shock over the plot twist.
I have never really thought the Kim Bum was that cute, but in the first picture he is adorable! I’m completely in love with his new hair style. I’m not one to watch dramas unless I’m really bored but this one seems really sweet! I’ll diffidently check this one out.
i love younger man-older woman stories! i hope it’ll be great!
Unimaginably PERFECT jawline.
Awh! (Not the Edison-Gillian’s “awh”.)
reminds me of Dal Ja’s Spring!
he is so cute its making my heart melt
whenever love comes, age difference vanishes away
we should look at the feelings for each n not the age difference because feelings n love make relationship rather than age
hey guys where can i watch this drama? please help
