Happy Friday Everyone! Hope you all have a great weekend. As for me, I'll be watching Love Marriage. Anyone have any thoughts about that drama. Watching Wish Upon a Star has sparked my interest in Kim Ji Hoon. I'm not sure if this has been brought up in any previous threads but was just wanting feedback.

Happy FRIDAY!!
I will be playing music for a weeding tomorrow, the third youngest daughter of a good friend is getting married, they asked me to play during the interlude and also during the ceremony, my friend has three druthers, the other two are already married but he is having a hard time with the last one, he is a minister so I hope he can perform the ceremony with out to much agony, I have only one child, when my daughter got married I have dinner with her alone the night before the wedding and it was hard, my baby girl was no longer a child but was on her way to become a wife, that transition was hard for me, she still my daughter but know she was going to be in the care of another man, relinquishing your kids as they grow old, and start to do the grown up things it hurts and its quite scary at times, but we as parents must be willing to trust that they can make good choices for their lives, but I believe still is harder on a man when the daughters get married, it feels like a big chunk of your heart is torn apart.....well enjoy the start of your weekend... : O }

Why, Happy Friday y’all! Yeee-hah!

Is anyone else watching OB-GYN? What do you think of it so far?

Don’t suppose it’ll get big love from Dramabeans readers or any recap love, but hoping to catch someone else here who’s going to be following this drama like me. So, anyone?

My thoughts so far: The female lead is pretty cold, aloof, sterile, nay, clinically sterile of emotion at this point (aka typical doctor), but it’s interesting to see such a character, in comparison to the customary outspoken, heart-on-sleeve kdrama heroine (the kinds I root for, FYI). Will be interesting to see how the story develops seeing as she’s secretly pregnant and is looking to abort the baby.
And how can I forget the most important part? Three hot, handsome male doctors to ogle over! Song Joong-ki, Seo Ji Seok AND Ko Joo Won! Ooo wee!
I like that Song Joong-ki is in a lot more scenes than I’d anticipated but he tends to buzz around in the background more, doing his doctor stuff. Blink and you’ll miss that beautiful face. He isn’t as ‘Onew Sangtae’ (scatterbrained) as they’d first made out; in fact he’s impressive and works pretty skilfully (I want to see more of him, damn you!). The scatterbrained one is the cocky surgeon played by Go Mi Nam’s manager in YB.

Love the charming background score and OST, also that the drama doesn’t focus as heavily inside the hospital at this point, it’s showing a lot of stuff taking place outside of the hospital. Also some familiar faces, Gu Jun-pyo’s butler in a very different kind of role, (dude, try all you want, you’ll always be Gu Jun-pyo’s butler, though your poker face IS very doctor-like) and Chun-hee’s evil tearoom boss from the first 2 episodes of WISFC is in this too, as a surgeon. (Heeeelp!)

Not as gory as I thought either, although the twins freaked me out in episode two (OH MY GOD!). The actor playing father to the twins (who could pass as So Ji-sub’s abuji or even hyung) was phenomenal. Wow! I want to see more of this guy in future!

While this drama didn’t ‘completely’ blow me away, there was never a dull moment, there’s so much to see, and that’s other than the pretty faces. I’ll continue to tune in and eagerly, as long as they keep things at this pace.

@ghian: You can just feel free to talk with others here or just say something ^^

@Amg1: aww, *pats*.

@Su-pah: Oh, I haven't given it a try. Glad to hear it's not so "gory". From what you have stated about the drama so far, my interest has been peaked.

Ah, the You're Beautiful power is really big!

I had a friend who did not watch K-dramas AT ALL. First introduced to Stairway to Heaven, but refused to watch it after 2 episodes due to it's crazy, melodramatic madness. Since than, every time I tried to get her to watch a K-drama, it resulted in "How sad is it?". Than I tried to get her into K-pop and showed her Wondergirls. "Ah... Korean spice girls." Showed her Big Bang's Sunset Glow MV, and all I heard was "Whats with the purple pants and suspenders! *cracks up*"

So recently I said, "Give the drama 'You're Beautiful' a try. At least watch the first episode."

BUAHAHAHAHAAA! She watched the first episode, and she told me she liked it. Two days later she's on the 7th episode. A day or two after that, she was up til 1 am finishing the series :D
Although it seems like she's fairly new to the fate of second lead. "Shinwoo gets her, right!? So dissapointed if he doesn't..."

I understand her pain, but after watching a ton K-dramas... my heart is already prepared. It's a K-drama fact: Second Leads won't get the girl. *eyes Bae Soo Bin*

For all you K-drama lovers with insane amount of information on K-dramas.... any ideas what I should show her next? Must keep the K-drama-love fuel running before it goes out ;)

I just finished Queen Seon Deok, and is still having trouble moving on to other series. hoho. Maybe i should revisit When Spring Comes. at least KNG is in it. hehe. or maybe Goodbye Solo? The only other series of LYW i'm familiar with is Fashion 70's. love that one too. but I don't know where i put the CD already. Or perhaps rewatching Queen Seon Deok isn't such a bad idea???

It's finally Friday!!! I went out on a school night and am now trying to stay awake in class (it's break time now)...but since I plan to study this afternoon, I want to make sure this message gets posted early. So this week, I had found out that a member of the romance forum that I usually visit is also a drama addict and visits dramabeans! I just want to say hi to her on this open thread in case she is reading! =DD "Hi!!!!"

@ 8 Biscuit:

Next up, I recommend Wish Upon A Star (which JB is recapping right here). It's getting pretty warm reviews and personally, I love it. If your friend likes YB, she should like WUAS. And of course, there are the 'classic' rom-coms: Coffee Prince, Kim Sam Soon... and many others. JB has a nice little page here where she rates k-dramas, and gives some comments about each one. You might find that useful ("My Drama Ratings" you'll find near the top at the left under "Navigate").

@1 ghian -

can i ask?
what is an open thread

Ooh great question. It all started that fateful day when Javabeans thought to herself,

"I need a way to control my k-drama creatures so that they don't overrun my regular articles, recaps and posts."

So Javabeans, in her near-infinite wisdom, created a petri dish / corral where her k-drama unicorns, yetis and other such fanciful creatures could meet and greet one another, grow bigger and stronger through shared knowledge, devour and battle one another, and generally just frolick like free-range chickens.

:D

***

To answer your question a little more seriously, open thread is just a place to talk about anything that is on your mind. people post questions, talk about their personal lives, discuss dramas, voice complaints or rave about stuff.... and then, other people sometimes reply and that's just what happens.

If you say stuff, sometimes people will respond if they have something to say. Sometimes, nobody will respond, but that doesn't mean that they are ignoring you.

So, post away! and welcome to dramabeans open thread!

I went to Giant & Wal-Mart yesterday & was surprised at how many people there were! Everyone is preparing for the big blizzard today (up to 40 INCHES!) up stacking up on our food supply. I felt like we were getting ready for a war or something!

Btw, is anyone else following the doppelgänger (celebrity look-alike) on Facebook? I've been trying to  find one of myself for the past week but all it's doing is attentuating my self esteem. Is there any website where you can find one? I know there's a Korean site for it but I don't know what it's called!!

So, I've got a funny story : )

Yesterday a friend and I were wandering around a neighborhood in Seattle, and we stopped in this dive bar to buy concert tickets. We get to talking to the owner, and it somehow comes out that they had filmed Late Autumn with Hyun Bin there a couple of days ago! He said that everyone was very polite, but wouldn't tell us what the scene was about. I was so shocked to have stumbled upon the filming that my friend had to keep talking to the owner...I can't imagine what would have happened if we found them actually filming!

The song is pretty good, as always javabeans.

Happy Friday evrbuddy! My stomach is rumbling, I'll just slip in a post before I go rummaging in the cupboards downstairs.

Right now I'm watching Chuno and WUAS as they air, and I'm going nutso waiting for subs. I'm prob going to end up viikii-ing the rest of WUAS, after WITHS2's almost-done subs are completed. Chuno needs HQ, I think, but I think I'm loving WUAS more. They're both really, seriously great. WUAS is so refreshing in that it's so brilliant even without barely any progress on the romance (upto ep 6), never a dull moment. I also REALLY enjoy that the male lead is such a tool, ahaha. I think I'm team tae gyu, fml, shipping neither the main nor the second lead but someone who doesn't even register! Also it's been ages since an Other Girl has been so detestable omg, she has no merits whatsoever, and she's not even hateable because she's mean to the main girl and an otp interloper, she's just ACTIVELY hateable! This is one of those dramas I could gulp down in an easy marathon and would want never to end.

Chuno, on the other hand, really does need the breaks between the 2 eps, although not a week long but there's so much going on. The pace is awesome, as is so much about this show. Everything is so badass! Nonetheless, WUAS reaches in and touches something much deeper. Chuno is a bit showy but it deserves a lot of the praise/ratings. Hot grimy mens manse! \o/ Also I love that the shipping lines aren't so clearcut, plus we have that pesky interloper of death to potentially deal with. Nice one.

Jdrama fans, anyone watching Wallflower? So wonderfully absurd, such an unexpectedly fabulous OTP!

I just finished watching YAB for the xxx time (lost count already) so it's great to know you managed to influence yr friend to watch Kdrama through YAB! If she likes YAB kinda stuff, perhaps you could show her Hong sisters other dramas as well..

Happy Friday everyone (it's 5 min past Friday here in Malaysia so officially we're already in Saturday LOL)

I'm totally Chunofied these days, can't stop watching them, can't stop thinking about them, and my playlist has now changed from CN Blue to Chuno soundtrack. On ep 6 now, can't wait to watch ep 7 onwards. I know I'm late at catching up, but am still having a blast while waiting for the the rest of the subs. When I was addicted to YAB before, I could watch the drama raw, but I'm listening to the advice of the experts now that the best way to enjoy Chuno is by waiting for the subs. And I totally understand why!

to Biscuit: show her "wish upon the stars". It was full of laugh and I was really happy to start the new year with such a sweet and funny drama. Last year was really a dissapointment in terms of drama with the "so they distroy Boys over flower myth" for me. But at least I was happy to watch "you are beautiful" and "shining inheritance".

Anyway, week end came so fast. it seems that this year i embarked on a high speed train! and february will be really short: no 29th. Time pass by and it seems that I couldn't grow up and still addict of korean dramas. My taste still the same: funny and sweet dramas with cute guy and romantic story.

i love Kdrama because they are my directive line life! I learn how to be patient while waiting next episode, learn how to cruise guy, learn how to cook, learn how to be unfashion ...ok just kidding...

this year gonna try to be more mature and be less adict.....:P

Hmm, I've noticed that these Friday threads have been rolling around with increasing frequency. It could be because time has been speeding up ( which is the most likely explanation) or that I am getting older and my perception of the span of time is smaller/faster (which is a ridiculous explanation).

Happy Friday, JB/DB. I miss not having anything to watch. My next stop would probably have to be Lee Min Ho in April.

@samsooki: that is hands-down the best definition of OT ever.

is anyone else watching Pasta? I LOVE IT!!! it's just so cute, i can't stop smiling/squeeing all throughout the episode!! ep 10 especially!!!! i must say though, i don't really like the three female cooks. i suppose the new development in ep10 is needed to show hyun-wook's progress(and they can't have them moping around in a random restaurant forever i guess :D), but all three of them are frankly annoying. :P ah well, plenty of hyun-wook yoo-kung love to make up for it. ^^
and the soundtrack is just too cute.

Happy Friday everyone!

Bad news: this morning I rolled down my window to buy coffee at a drive thru, but my monthly parking pass fell INTO the door well, sliding down between the rubber window seal and the window glass. To fish it out, it will cost $110 approx.

On the other hand, a replacement parking pass will cost only $15 at the garage security office, but since this is the SECOND time in month that I've lost my parking pass (i lost my pass somewheres a few weeks ago), I don't want to look like a total idiot (or like a guy who is trying to pull a fast one), and so I am paying a $95 premium NOT to look like an idiot.

Guh..

Initially I was really excited for Chuno, but having watched up to the fourth? fifth? episode, I find myself still not being able to get into it. The mens are definitely yummy (all that running around with no shirts! yay!), but I just can't get into the storyline. I guess I'm not really sympathetic to the characters, nor am I really buying their relationships. Honestly, I find the most interesting interaction to be the one between Seol-hwa and the maknae, what his name again? Anyway. The angst on his part of still having to do all the woman's stuff, coupled with his frustration of trying to get her to roll in the hay with him...so funny.

It's the weekend!! TIme for some serious cleaning and drama watching!

Greatly enjoying Pasta. How often do you get to see some serious flirting in a Kdrama? (Episode 10 - my goodness!) Not a complicated plot, it's true, but just love the 2 main actors. Heard rumors that it may be extended (from Dahee's blog) - say it isn't SO!!!

And Assorted Gems just continues to grow on me! Some great characters and the couple relationships continue to develop in ways that seem natural/healthy to me. Just wish it wasn't so LONG! (Although I guess that's the reason the relationships have so much time to develop... Ah, you can't win for losing!)

By the way, if you want to watch Kdrama on a iTouch/iPhone and need subtitles, I highly recommend iSubtitle. Works like a charm! (Hmm...may be for Mac's only. Sorry!)

Ugh, I wish my school wasn't so strict about downloading files. I haven't been able to watch Assorted Gems the past two weeks because I can't download the raws. Thankfully I am going home this weekend (only a few hours until my mom comes to pick me and my roomie up!) and can download away.

My 20th birthday is tomorrow and I have no idea what my friends have planned for me; I only know that we're going out to dinner. Who knows what we're doing after. Hope it's cheap cause I don't have much money.

@30 Nonbirira:

I think I like that Assorted Gems is so long because it seems more natural pace-wise for relationships. With dramas that have less episodes it seems more forced...even though I suppose the argument can be made of time passing when you aren't aware in some dramas. Ah well. Enjoy watching AG!

Anybody here from Hong Kong? Which New Year has a grander celebration - Jan. 1 or Chinese NY?

My boyfriend and I originally planned on going on the last week of Dec., but my cousins and aunts told me they will be in the Motherland the whole of Christmas break...ugh! So nobody who lives in the same building as I do can take care of my cat. :(

We can then go in Feb. for Chinese New Year, but HK peeps, is it bigger and better than Jan. 1? Should we just wait for 2012?

Hi everyone! I just started City Hall and it is growing on me, fast. I stayed up late watching ep9 last night. I love the couple and the budding romance between them, but I just can't get over the fiancee issue. So Jo Gook can justify his cheating ways and jerk attitude because he is "inexperienced" with woman like Mi Rae? Arggggh...if he wasn't so suave, say like the Mi Rae's ex, isn't what Jo Gook doing basically the same as the other guy? That is, using her for his own gains. And worst, he's engaged. But Jo Gook is the definition of tall, dark and handsome, and so she (and all female viewers) endures.... *sigh* Did anybody else have as much difficulty accepting the fiancee issue?

sorry I have to be brief (@ work)... I'm a HKer. ;)

ppl take CNY much more seriously there than 1/1 but the festivities usu r at home, w/ fam (sorta like Christmas in the whole middle America) If u r going just for sightseeing, shops are closed at least new yr day and the day after (and it may also apply to some resto) I'm also going back to HK for CNY.

WUAS is owning me, I finished 10 eps in couple days. I'm not saying it's perfect, but I'm emotionally involved w/ almost all the characters like no tmr.

I think Chinese New years is bigger.... I just came back from Christmas there....but got food posioning from eating street roasted chestnuts (BUT THEY SMELLED AND TASTED SOOOO GOOD!!!) so did not get to enjoy the Jan 1st festivities.. but I think that was mostly just a countdown. I've never been back during Chinese NY, but I just think it's grander since everyone gets a longer break. But then, that's like in the olden times and since HK is becoming more and more Westernized.... it probably isn't as big as it used to be.
