btw, does anyone have a link to eng-subbed episodes of Assorted Gems? i'm stuck on Episode 31, because viikii keeps postponing the licensing agreement (i think?) and i can't get access to the episode!

If you need to watch streaming and you're in the US or Canada, Dramafever just loaded Eps 1-26 of Assorted Gems and should be adding additional episodes soon:

If you download, our wonderful adorable Thundie has graciously provided everything you could possibly need at her site:

Fridayyyyyyy~ Which means my friend will be coming over to make Korean food with me tonight. She spent last semester in Korea, and I want to learn how to cook more Korean meals, so we've decided that every Friday is Korean food night. I'm excited! :D

So, random:

The other day I was on OMNTD on LJ, and through a random comment I discovered the awesomeness that is Boyish Project. Some girl (?) takes all sorts of female Kpop artists and lowers the pitch of their voices so that they sound like guys. It's kind of awesome, and I've been listening to some of them nonstop.

http://www.youtube.com/user/otokee

After School and BoA make especially great men, although my favourite boy-ified song is probably SNSD's "Oh!" for obvious reasons. XD

@hpn88 -- I know, I love Alex, too! At first I wasn't really that into his character, but he's grown on me. Now, even though I'm totally shipping Chef/Yoo-kyung, I can't help but hope they get to at least kiss once...gah. Why can't she just have both???? But hey, I'll take the other if she can't have both. ;)

Happy Friday & Happy Valentines Day! (Even though Valentines Day is Sunday...).

I'm grateful that it's a long weekend; I stressed myself out this week over two tests and three quizzes (as well as a six page paper). I didn't get to watch anything this week!

I still have six episodes of Assorted Gems to catch up on, four of Wish Upon a Star (Stars Falling from the Sky), and I have yet to finish Will it Snow for Christmas (three episodes left!). Not to mention all the other non-Korean dramas I have to finish/catch up on. This is going to be one drama-filled weekend, so thankfully it's a long weekend.

Oh! That's right! Happy Chinese New Year!

I recently dled all 3 seasons of "Avatar: The Last Airbender" just to see what the hype is about and why people are boycotting the upcoming movie. Some guy even claimed that this is the best cartoon ever (yeah, he's an adult), which includes beating out X-Men and the Batman series from my childhood (did I just date myself?). I think I'll spend this Valentine's weekend watching all 3 seasons. ^^

i've started watching "Autumn Concerto" (taiwanese drama) a few weeks ago, thought it was pretty good, but not as good as ppl claim it to be. i stopped watching after ep2, because i was really getting bored. i like how the story is unfolding and how the characters are developing, but i just didn't feel like continuing it. i'll prob give it a try...later.

i've been trying to watch Tamna with subs, but gosh, most of the kdrama links on mysoju are broken. BROKEN~~ *cries*

@16 mie
It is one of the best cartoons EVER! I have to agree with your friend. Its smart, funny, and season 3 is filled with gut-wrenching goodness. It has everything you could want and more - romance, mystery, action, bromance.
It is totally the perfect date for Valentine's Day...no lies.

the main controversy is that 3 of the 5 main characters are clearly drawn as if they were of Asian decent. The other 2 are from a tribe of people supposedly based off Inuit culture. However, the cast now feature 3 Caucasian actors playing the main character (Ang) and the 2 "Inuit Characters". and an Indian (the guy that played Jamal in Slumdog) playing a character that was Asian and who is also the evil guy trying to kill the main characters. So now people are angry about why the casting is so different from how the creators originally had it! And why the only minority in the cast is playing the evil guy?
And I agree. Why? its not as if they could get Asian child actors - if they ever watched a single kdrama featuring child actors (Pick the star cough cough), they would have all the talent they need.
That being said, I am actually excited they cast Dev Patel as Prince Zuko. He is such a conflicted and awesome character that I am glad an emerging talent that I am keeping my eyes on got the chance to play him. And also i think originally one of the Jonas bros or someone was supposed to play him! Thank god they avoided that major fail

I adore Avatar: The Last Air Bender. I wouldn't say that it was better than Batman: The Animated Series, but it's still excellent. (There. I'm dating myself AND outing myself as a total geek! :-P) It has its flaws, but there is far more to love. It is beautiful to look at and it deals with far more mature themes than you'll see in a cartoon primarily aimed at children. There's some wonderful use of foreshadowing and symbolism. And it's laugh out loud funny too. I hope you enjoy it!

And, yes, I'm dreading the live-action movie.

Happy upcoming holidays, dramabeaners (dramabeanies? can we get some of those patented or something?). o/ A week of rest. Well, a week of assignments but at least I can stay indoors! It's COLD.

Dramaland~ mindbogglingly obsessed with Pick The Stars. Am upto ep10 w/ WITHS2's subs and am wondering whether to head over to Viikii for the next 2. The quality's actually pretty good, but watching a great drama in great quality has its own appeal. Ah, well. I doubt I can control myself. May I say Junha is realllllllllly pissing me off. Goojaab drama, making me hate Dong Wook sshi. +.+" Just wtf mate, you'd think he'd be happy that his brother, who's lived about as warmly as a piece of paper, is thawing out and getting attracted to someone, doing something as normal as bickering and not freaking out over stains. What the hell is with the dark looks and manipulation? Also been a while since I hated an Other Girl so much, to the point where the sneer doesn't leave my face until she's left the screen. Also, PA RANG + KANG HA. WIBBLEPLZ. Those reading javabeans' recaps, when they read the comment about how Pa Rang is probably the only person who's ever loved him unconditionally and for himself, is there a single person on this site who didn't awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww for about 5 pages of text?

Finally, anyone watching jerry/ella's down with love?

"I am actually excited they cast Dev Patel as Prince Zuko. He is such a conflicted and awesome character that I am glad an emerging talent that I am keeping my eyes on got the chance to play him."

Yes, Zuko was definitely the most interesting character in entire series. I'm glad they found someone with true range to play him. In fact, Dev Patel might be the only reason to see this movie. Well, that and it looks like it really will be visually stunning. From all the still I've seen, it takes all the creative designs from the cartoon and ramps them up a notch.

And I believe they had originally cast Jessie McCartney (no idea if I spelled that right and don't care enough to check) which would have been all levels of wrong. But it shows what where their brains were when they cast this originally.

@16 mie I adore Avatar: The Last Airbender. I think the channel was surprised as all get out when they figured out their demographic was bigger than 10 year old boys. I have all 3 seasons on disk, and gave it to my nieces and nephews as on automatic shipment pre-order from Amazon, I love it that much! The live action casting really worries me.

Norwegian beef stew aka brennesnute for dinner tonight. 8-) Mostly in honor of the opening ceremonies of the Olympics. So I'm off to the grocery to see if I can battle the crowds and scare up the ingredients. Still no mail though! Nothing since Tuesday. And we're out of Peet's Coffee because the UPS man hasn't made it here either. Life is rough!

Happy Friday everyone!

And Happy Long Weekend :)

And of course, Happy Chinese New Year!! My mom asked if i was coming home for CNY dinner this weekend, but as I'm 400 miles away, i said no. She even offered to pay for my plane ticket! Felt super bad, but if I'm going home twice in the next month, that makes up for it right?! I'm just gonna tell myself yes, it does. Sigh.

I finally restarted IRIS last night.... and MAN i forgot how fun that show was. I could do without the repeated flashback montages of LBH/KTH's 3 day-relationship, but i'm totally sucked back in. This is it guys! This is what's gonna get me back into drama-watching mode! I also started to DL SOAM. It'll probably take a few days, but by then I'll have finished IRIS and will be ready for another intense roller-coaster ride :P

Avatar: The Last Airbender (mild spoilers below).

My fave animated series since Robotech. Completely different genres, but equally gripping stuff. I have all 3 seasons on DVD, I've watched Seasons 1-2 multiple times, but I CANNOT bring myself to watch Season 3, because I hate the ending. I hate it with a vengeance reserved for delusional cows like JY on WUAS.

I spent weeks venting to my husband (we both love Avatar) about how jacked the ending was, and he eventually hid the DVDs so I can't destroy it. My boy loves Avatar, too, he could care less about the story, he loves Aang and Momo and Katara.

Why do I hate the ending? First off, it felt rushed. Secondly, and this is a dealbreaker for a melo-fiend like myself, the series f*cked up the OTP (pardon my french, still pissed a year later, as you can see). For 2 seasons, it was clear and so rife with tension and expectation that the OTP was going to be Zutara. Until the writers completed did a mind meld in season 3 (prolly realized that oops, this is a show on Nick and kids watch, and Zutara would probably melt the screen and be more suitable on SciFi) and forced them apart and ended with a complete WTF that was KatAang. Ummmm, hells to the no! I ended up reading fanfiction and pretend the ending was not what it was.

See how a kid's TV show can screw with me emotionally, I now avoid cartoons. But seasons 1 (water) and 2 (earth) are epic in Avatar, and season 3 (fire) had some great individual episodes, but as a season (putting aside my OTP-issues) as a whole was rather disjointed and ended quickly, which always made me wonder what happened behind the scenes.

I personally am watching The Last Airbender movie for Uncle Iroh and Zuko. And thanks to stupidly showing my son the extended trailer on YT, I've now watched the trailer over 100 times (ahhh! N. Night, I have reservations.....) and my son is really confused "who made Aang normal, you know, like us" (as opposed to a cartoon). I don't know how to explain live-action adapation of a cartoon to a 4 year old.

I've been hacking up a lung and feeling miserable all week, but the Avatar: the last airbender love here is making me smile! I love that series! It's really expensive to buy, though =*( But i think it's worth it. Even though you can just tell from the series itself, the commentaries and behind-the-scenes stuff really shows us that this series was a labor of love. how awesome is it that the creators and martial arts consultant jump around the Nickelodeon studios acting out the scenes in real life so that the animation could be done properly? And I love the asian themes and the sensitive use of them. Too many western cartoons/live-actions just use martial arts and asian themes as a gimmick.

I was a bit upset that James Cameron named his movie Avatar and now we have to refer to this live action movie as the last airbender. =/ I have reservations about the movie too (M.Night plus casting controversy), but the recent extended trailer looks pretty good so far- so *knock on wood*

@32 ockoala. I actually enjoyed the season 3 and its ending, but I agree with you that the OTP should be Zuko and Katara. Whenever they're on screen together, I go nuts! And when they're interacting, my heart gets all fluttery. And nothing is hotter than opposites attract- water and fire. But then I do admit that Aang's at a disadvantage for being so young and short. Maybe he'll grow up to be taller.

Anyways, Happy Lunar New Year for those who celebrate it this weekend!!!

I'm watching Down With Love! It's quite cute, although the dubbing of the actress playing Hui Fan is driving me nuts. I'm vehemently anti-dub, though, so maybe it doesn't bother anyone else..

I hate the kids though, haha. The whole orphaned child who hates their nanny is a wayyyy abused plot device.. The little girl is a brat and should be punished. The End.

I do love Ella's sister, though. She's so adorable.

@32 ockoala

Mte, hun. Seasons 1 and 2 were freaking kick-ass, and then I watched the first couple of episodes of season 3 and couldn't take it anymore. Zuko with Mai?! Katara and Aang?! I..what??? I still can't bring myself to watch the rest of the season, because I know it'll be a disappointment. :(

My family is in the midst of a huge conflict right now and it seems that most people have claimed a side. This New Years is missing a family member whom we don't know how many more we'll see that person for. I'm just hoping that the family will realize that they are being absolutely insane. When we're supposed to be banning together, they are riping each other apart. Terrible...Hope all your families and this Dramabeans family offers enough support when you all need it!

And then neither of them thanked me for remembering to take out the garbage when they BOTH forgot, or for doing their dishes, or for cleaning up the mess in the bathroom created by them..

3 more months and I'm out of here. I'm counting down the days already, I swear. x.x

@38 kaedejun

See, I think everything in Twdramas is ridiculous already, so I can forgive a little overacting. Because she's not bad per se, just..over-the-top. Which I guess could bother people, but she doesn't do it to the point that I hate her or anything.

@44 langdon813

I don't really know anything about Jerry Yan, but I like him in Down With Love. His character isn't as "cold" as I think he's supposed to be (much too likable haha), but I think he's doing a fine job as the straight man to Ella's ridiculousness.

@ asianromance (and Kender and spglt001)

"Aang’s at a disadvantage for being so young and short. Maybe he’ll grow up to be taller."

Mwahahahaha, that was too cute! Oh, yeah, Aang being a foot shorter than Katara did make the *kiss* scene at the end of Season 3 so cringe-inducing it was akin to the JY forced kiss on KH (sorry for the repeated WUAS references).

I don't hate on Aang, but he belonged with Toph, end of story. Katara and Zuko were practically spitting fire and water on each other from the first encounter (he takes her necklace, hello people, classic hate to love move), and every meeting just brough the butterflies and mad mad emotional tension each time. Like you all said, we'd be a dope to think otherwise, and it make total sense for Aang to get over his puppydog crush on Katara and them realizing they were the best of friends. And then Season 3 happened, and I headdesked myself into oblivion. I have not been able to re-watch a single episode of Avatar since then, sigh, but by June, I think I'll be able to go in and check it out.

I pray, pray so hard, that if Avatar becomes a sequel, M. Night will screw with canon and make Zutara happen. If that happens, I will rewatch The Village and proclaim it the best movie ever made!

Btw, the fanfic legions of Avatar fans are split, like 99.9% of the stories are all Zutara, *giggles*, it made me feel better that I was not the only one who was massively PO'd at the ending.

@ mookie-twin (from last OT)

Thanks for checking in from HK, have a fun and food-filled trip! Give us the latest scoop when you get back.

Thanks for the rankings of Duke, I figured the ZJZ version would be the typical gorgeous to behold but rather empty inside. I'm still mighty tempted to watch, like I said, I shallow, if someone actually made a version where all 7 wives are pretty, that would alleviate a major beef I have with the Tony/Andy version (where other than Carina Lau, none of the other 6 girls were pretty at all!).

And, ahem, The Bed Scene, I've heard talk that its, ahem, completely shocking that ZJZ would allow this to be portrayed as raunchy as in the novel (or that it made it pass the Chinese TV censors). Unlike Tony's version, where the morning after, everyone was still all dressed! (made me very very confused, and I was a kid, and didn't know why a bunch of people sleeping fully clothed in the same bed would make the 7 ladies get into a total bitch fight the next morning, or why they all suddenly had to marry him afterwards, again, I didn't see the light until many years later). Seriously though, one of the funniest scenes I've ever read in any novel. And the thought of that gorgeous hunk of man HXM doing that scene with 7 lovely co-stars makes me totally all fluttery, he's really so handsome, too bad he possesses only 3 expressions in his acting repertoire - eyebrow arch, pinchy crying, and stoic determination.
