The first round of open auditions have been completed for writer Song Ji-nah‘s anticipated new campus drama What’s Up, and a list of the lucky applicants who passed to the next round has been revealed online on the audition webpage. The production still has a ways to go because there were 200 hopefuls who survived the first round; that number was pared down from an overwhelming number of overall aspirants — more than 10,000 showed up and participated.
The drama takes place in the musical department of a university and will begin filming in March. The main cast has already been selected; see initial group photos below.
They are, in order of the photo directly below: musical actor Jo Jung-seok, Hon‘s breakout star Im Joo-eun, Big Bang’s Daesung, Tamra the Island‘s Im Joo-hwan, former child actor Jeon Hye-jin, and model Lee Soo-hyuk.

When I was in college, I once went to an open audition for extras on campus for a movie that was filming.
I walked back and forth in fake snow for more than an hour in the freezing cold. Since it wasn’t snowing though, they sprayed fake snow on the ground. The fake snow they were using was some sort of latex foam, and so when it dries, it dries into hardened plastic almost. It gets into the folds and crevices of your shoes and then your shoes are done.
And to make matters worse, I was not among those selected. And I didn’t get any autographs because no actors were there. To this day, I am still sore about it.
In that What’s Up crowd of 9,800 people who did not make the first cut, I bet there are dozens who are just as talented as at least some in the main cast. Why does one become Team Park Kyu, and another person just have to go to work every day in a salary-man job for the rest of his life? Life is so unfair sometimes… sigh.
OH MY GOSH! I think they all seem very coool and acting so fun while enjoy shooting picture — AWESOME!
Lolz, I love seeing Daesung were acting so cool and funky (2 pictures of Daesung) — like, “Wait…Don’t go, you will make me so heartbreaker to see you leave like that….Don’t go…” (1st picture) AND “OH YEAAHH!!!!” (2nd picture), heh! That’s what I thought, lolz!
It really made me sooo interesting to watch this drama “What’s up”, hehe! (grins)
