Bad Guy preview video and stills

To be honest, I wasn’t too excited about the new SBS drama Bad Guy, but I’m warming up to it. Especially after seeing the preview video, which is GREAT. (Watch below.) Maybe it’s because I’ve been watching a lot of romance and comedy lately, but I’m in the mood for something dark, and the tone of this drama seems to be just what I’m looking for — a bit of melodrama, mystery, and thriller-esque intensity.

Not only that, the acting looks pretty solid, which is to be expected with Kim Nam-gil but a nice surprise for Kim Jae-wook, who hasn’t really had a chance to stretch himself dramatically yet. Nor has Han Ga-in, and maybe this’ll be a big jump for her; I’ll keep an open mind about her with this foray into heavier material, which — who knows? — may end up suiting her better than cute romantic-heroine fare.

The trailer opens with Kim Nam-gil’s narration: “The thing about cats is… they don’t just bite a mouse once and kill it. They pretend to let it go and play around with it, and finally kill the mouse when they get tired of it.” This is his way of describing his revenge plans for the Haeshin Group — which is the company to whom Tae-sung (Kim Jae-wook) is heir.

Kim Nam-gil’s Gun-wook meets Tae-sung in Japan, who challenges him on the bridge, “Now that I’ve told you to try and kill me, are you afraid? I said, kill!” (Note: there’s a lack of pronouns in the sentence so Tae-sung could be directing Gun-wook to kill someone else; I am inferring from context that he’s taunting Gun-wook to try and kill him.) Further complicating things is their intertwining fates with Jae-in (Han Ga-in). Gun-wook is described as an homme fatale, a man with hardened heart to match his hard body, and ambition enough to sell his soul to the devil to get what he wants. In these still photos of the dock, Gun-wook cleans the yacht he lives in, which he has reclaimed from Tae-sung.

Still no appearance of Oh Yeon-soo, though the trailer does remind me of her prior drama La Dolce Vita, which was also dark and intense. (I personally found that drama a little too pretentious, but well-acted.)

Bad Guy began its shoots in Japan, and plans to begin filming in Jeju Island at the end of the month. It will air on SBS in May.

I guess we can stop POOR BIDAM!!!-ing. Bidam appears to have reincarnated hisself into a lean, mean revenge machine. Good luck to KNG and the team, drama sounds very interesting.

Let Bidam get the girl he wants for once hehe. Looks like it will just be that..? I wish KNG would get rid of his mustache though.. I think Han Ga-in's acting's going to be no better than average, but will be watchable.. at least she has better chemistry with her romantic partners than Lee Yo-won does.

It does reminds me of La Dolce Vita (which I don't like it.. btw). Does anyone know who's the writer behind this "bad guy" drama? And what's his/her previous work?

The writer seems to be relatively new and is listed as one of the three IRIS writers. Director is Lee Hyung-min of I'm Sorry, I Love You and Snow Queen.

I. Can. Not. Wait!!
All three look beautiful. KJW has amazing bone structure, he must be Kim So-yeon's relative.
But Kim Nam Gil at 1:14 -- those eyes are going to haunt me for many years now.

I'm not really into dark dramas. I've tried La Dolce Vita and Story of a Man but couldn't finish either of them. However, for the sake of Han Ga-In and Kim Jae Wook, I'm going to give it a try to see it it will last longer than LDV and SOAM for me.

HOLY WOW! I was expecting solid acting, but I totally didn't expect the drama to be like this. Rest assured, I'm watching this...not that I've had any doubts before the preview, but yeah, now I'm literally bouncing with excitement now! I cannot wait to watch this.

Re:Han Ga-in. OMG! You might be right. This kind of drama might suit her better. *crosses fingers* And hey, I was one of those who weren't so sure about her acting...

Is this the "Bad Guy" drama that Lee Min Ho considered? I can't imagine him in the role.

This looks cool, though. For tv shows and dramas, I watch almost exclusively comedies, but I might make an exception for this if it's good...

@LL,
You're right, I'd forgotten about that. I imagine he'd have taken Kim Jae-wook's role, though, not the lead. I might be able to see that, and I'd like to see Lee Min-ho try something serious next.

Kya....the trailer looks so good! Doesn't hurt that the it looks like a movie...

And Coffee Prince hottie.... Kim Jae Wook!!! Always know he had that in him, apart from looking pretty can well act... perhaps after "fluffy" roles in CP and Antique, this might be what he make his mark with...

And Kim Nam Gil, before his name change, before his popularity as Bidam, which I did not manage to follow, I'l remember him as the cool right hand man of Lee Seo Jin's character in Lovers(and wondering why an able actor like him is not expose more?) and that hot lover from Portrait of a Beauty...

It's amazing how actors transform and sometimes they just need that one role for breakthrough and Bidam nabs that for Kim Nam Gil... which brings us to this... that I am actually pretty excited and might check it out later...

Han Ga In, cute as ever, I need to see lady being fierce for a change!

I've been waiting for something similar to La Dolce Vita to finally come up.
Unfortunately, in the teaser she's always sporting the same blank look in each of the cuts she appears in.
Please Han Ga In...please don't disappoint. :(

Nice trailer.. It looks kinda mysterious and very dark.... Hope the actual drama is as good and interesting as the trailer. Good luck to Kim Nam Gil. Love him in Queen Seon Deok. He broke my heart though, seeing how he died in the end as Bidam.

My, my, my how delicious, tempting and intense the trailer is?

I LOVE thriller so much. The vibe of this drama felt like my alltime/ultimate thrilelr/dark fav-classic Japanese drama Stars fallling from the sky starring Kimura Takuya and Fukatsu Eri.

I love dark/thriller/mystery drama but I haven't found any satisfying one (with exception of Resurrection, The Devil and ALTK).

I'm gasping with excitement and want to watch this BADLY like nothing before. Really want to!

I found the male leads is excellent but I have a doubt when I watch Han Ga In. I think to make a drama works, both male and female leads both are vital, if not it wouldn't be an excellent or a great drama. Hope she can make me eat my words. I already prepare to be surprise.

oh exciting. I wasn't considering this drama before, too excited with other 3 upcoming dramas, but now this will complete the mood. We already got romance comedy, melodrama, and now this, a thriller ( hopefully it is ).
The casts look good ( and we have to be hopeful with Han Ga In, right? ). I'm going to try this when it airs.

Thank you for sharing!

Looks good. I was expecting a Bad Guy... Reforms type of drama but it looks more like a Bad Guy... Ruins Everybody's Life type. Honestly, I don't normally stray from romantic comedies but come on - it's Kim Nam Gil!

He could do an 8-hour infomercial for kitchenware and I'd watch it.

since if i am not mistaken, he never had any popular drama where his character isn't killed...lol.

BIDAM...I wouldn't be surprised if his acting would overshadow other actors' skills...
~~~best of luck for Bad Guy...
I was just thinking how awesome it would've been if KNG was paired with Kim So Yeon in this drama. Oh well, guess you can't have it all.
I don't know about Ha Ga In. Her character was so flat in Super Rookie but the other actors weren't so great either so it didn't bother me that much. KNG, on the other hand, is a very charismatic actor so he can make her character seem even more flat (like how Bidam made Yushin seem so dull and how the boys of Chuno completely overshadowed HW).
@47, Daniel Chen: Korean actors sporting mustaches and beards have been around... since Damo (that's the earliest I can think of in the K-drama world). I don't think Chuno did it. KNG probably did it create a different image in the minds of people since his Bidam character was pretty popular, or that was the appearance of his character.
