Ha Ji-won denies IRIS 2 reports
Hm, conflicting reports on this one. Although a few news outlets have reported that Ha Ji-won would take the lead in the IRIS sequel drama, Athena, the actress’s side has come out to say that this isn’t the case.
On the 19th, it was reported that the Taewon Entertainment CEO had said that they were in negotiations with Ha. In response, Ha’s management stated, “That is not at all true. She has a lot of other projects that she is deciding between. She has not discussed appearing in IRIS 2.”
Ha already has her next film project lined up, which reunites her with director Yoon Je-kyun from blockbuster disaster film Haeundae. She’ll begin filming in April. Athena, meanwhile, plans to begin filming in June in Italy, then Switzerland, followed by shoots in Singapore, New Zealand, and more overseas locations.
I’m not sure whether this is a serious denial, or just Ha’s side being careful not to jump to conclusions — often news reports will announce something before it’s finalized, and most of the time the issue goes on to be finalized anyway. But as we know, plans can often fall through and until both sides are willing to announce the news, ain’t nothing set in stone. However, merely mention of Ha Ji-won being considered for Athena gets me excited, because she would be PERFECT. She does sexy and intense better than most actresses of her generation, and I would put her and Kim Sun-ah as my two top picks for the role, with Ha edging out Kim. In fact, if she joins Jung Woo-sung and Cha Seung-won in this sequel, I’ll be much more excited about this drama than I ever was about its predecessor.

I’m going to sound like a mean old crankypants but this has been annoying me FOR YEARS, so here goes:
Her name is Lee DA Hae (이다해). Not Lee DAE Hae (이대해).
I know, it’s a tiny small little letter, but it changes the pronunciation of her name and soooo many people seem to think it’s Dae, which is so very much not the same thing as Da.

She still needs to improve on her acting but could be worse

HJW would be great, but I have to admit I would love to see Kim Sun Ah get it; her sparks with Cha Seung Won are legendary, and she does tough – and tired, and vulnerable, and woman-on-a-mission – so well.
The original quote is “전혀 사실이 아니다.” JB’s translation is unfortunately accurate: “That is not at all true.” So, this bums me out. I thought maybe the translation could have been “That’s not all true.” Like, maybe the part that wasn’t true was that “she was in negotiations,” when in actuality, there were no negotiations because she jumped at the chance and signed without negotiating. Hehe!
Still, saying something IS NOT TRUE is not saying something WON’T BE TRUE.
Like, I could say, “It is totally not true that it is raining.” But this does not foreclose the possibility of rain coming in the future?

Am Kinda glad she won’t be in it. I love the Guys and i can’t imagine her pairing with either one. I used to like her but Cain and Abel was such a disappointment, i have sort of a mental block. I want to see her in some light rom-com type drama/movies.
I really wish Jun Ji hyun could be in it. I think she suits the character and really want to see her in Drama.

Lee and Yi are two ways to romanize the same name (이). Uhm and Eom are also two ways to romanize the same name (엄). Both are acceptable ways to write the name, although Lee is certainly more common. (I think Uhm and Eom are about equally used; it’s a less common name to begin with.)
(Lee vs. Yi is an example where a spelling difference doesn’t automatically mean the other version is wrong. Whereas, Dae actually is wrong as opposed to Da.)
Ha Ji-won wasn’t in Cain & Abel… (That was Han Ji-min and Chae Jung-ahn.)

I’m hardpressed to think of that happening in any drama I’ve watched. But then again, mortal enemies in a typical k-drama usually of of the same sex, i.e. two women fighting over the same man, two men fighting over the same company and woman, etc. I’d be hardpressed as well to think of a k-drama where a man/woman were mortal enemies and played the leads.
Since that instance is rare enough, then having them play a romantic couple either before or afterwards, probably hasn’t happened before.
KSA playing the lead in Athena would mean that CSW would be responsible for turning her entire life, love and work, upside down, shake it all around, and then toss it in an incinerator bad, i.e. if she and JWS get a happy ending, one of them probably has first lost a limb or their family to get there. Aish.
I would have to watch an episode of Athena followed immediately by re-watching The Kiss or The Proposal each time to feel balanced again. o_O

If KSA is cast as JWS’ love interest, opposite of CSW the Evil Mastermind, I will be happy for her, but I will be a very confused samsooki.
In the end, I think, I would believe that KSA can redeem CSW and turn him to the Good side of the Force, just like Luke Skywalker did with James Earl Jones.

OR, if KSA is cast as the black leather temptress who goes around sexpot-ting all the government workers and then killing them for their secrets…. and then disguises herself as a potential victim of the evil conspiracy, lures JWS into a sexpot trap, and then drugs him and strips him, and then CSW shows up and KSA dressed in all black tights and 3 inch heels walks around to stand next to CSW, sneering at a tied-up JWS…..

I think HJW or KSA would be great candidates for the role. Definite improvement from KTH. Lee Da Hae looks too fragile to be playing a secret agent. I wouldn’t be able to take her seriously. Same goes for Song Hye Kyo as others have mentioned in previous posts.
I really hope Ha Ji Won would play the lead role in IRIS2, she is perfect for the role. She has a strong presence and very sexy too. Although, she doesn’t have an astounding beauty her appeal outweighs that, and she has a very good chemistry amongst all the actors she had worked with.

I would love to see Kim Sun Ah in this drama, but after yesterday, when the news came out that HJW will be the lead, my world crashes down on me.
Not that I`m against HJW, but I`m not a fan of her, though I`ve seen 2 of her movie`s,
not enough for me to say she`s good or not good.
I just feel that KSA is the best for the role, acting wise, KSA is excellent and she can transform herself in any character.
I wish producers and scriptwriter of this drama can be as good as the PD and writer of CH.

I don’t think Lee Da Hae would be good choice here at all. She’s just doesn’t have that intensity in her acting for an action series like Athena. A soft melo, rom-com drama suits Ms. Lee better
If NOT Son Ye Jin, the only person I can think of for ‘IRIS 2′ would be Ha Ji Won. Any of the two actress would perfect for the part; in fact, I wouldn’t mind seeing both Son Ye Jin & Ha Ji Won on screen together either.
I just hope that the ‘IRIS 2′ director/casting/producer considers an actress who can handle a strong-female character. Oh, how about someone like Uhm Jung Hwa to appear in the Kdrama? She’d be PERFECT! Maybe not exactly to be paired up with the two confirmed lead actors but to have a minor, yet, crucial part!

IRIS 2 UPDATE !!!
Recently, rumors about actress Ha Ji Won joining the cast have been floating around. But on the 19th, the drama’s production company Taewon Entertainment stated:
The rumors about Ha Ji Won being confirmed as the female lead is not true. Currently, her schedule for the movie Seven Remedies and Athena overlap, so she cannot join the cast. … A female lead will be confirmed in the upcoming 2-3 days.
Furthermore, Taewon Entertainment revealed about the “real” sequel of IRIS, stating:
Athena: Goddess of War, which has been called “IRIS 2,” is only a spin off drama. So technically, it isn’t the real sequel. … IRIS’s real sequel, IRIS 2, is scheduled to be produced and broadcast in the latter half of 2011.
On being asked about Lee Byung Hun and Kim Tae Hee returning in the real sequel, he stated, “Because it is a sequel, of course they will be cast for it.”
Athena is scheduled to broadcast in the latter half of 2010, while IRIS 2 will be broadcasted in the latter half of 2011, making it a trilogy of some sorts.

Hmmmm…very interesting. I’ve noting against HJW, but when I saw her CF shoot with the group including JWS, she was dwarfed by him. Oh well, she can be second lead.
I want to see KSA as a double agent.
If it’s true that HJW can’t join the cast in Athena, we will have a limited candidate choice for a lead female since they (the candidates) have to be a top & solid actress. Jeon Ji Hyun has a slim chance cause she have to shoot for her Chinese movie (besides apparently she’s not so keen into drama right now), Son Ye Jin : I don’t think she want to jump to a new production right away after finishing personal taste, Song Hye Kyo is too delicate to portray a spy agent, Kim Hye Soo is too old for action scene, Lee Da Hae isn’t so popular right now after she’s been critized in Chuno, not a good choice. Yoon Eun Hye has never been in an action drama/movie before but she has a potential (by looking at her early scene of MFL where she had to tackel the man she have to marry off, or when she’s fighting with YSH character in kendo outfit) & besides like someone said YEH has star power. Ha Ji Min is too short & can’t be considered as a top actress yet. And lastly Kim Sun Ah. I think she’s a perfect candidate for this role since she has an appropriate height, good acting skill & has been in an action movie/drama before. But isn’t she eyeing a movie project right now ?

KSA is great, but she’s errr… pardon me If I offense anyone in here, she’s too old for this kind of role (?) I do love her though, but I’d like to see fresh and fierce image just like KSY in IRIS. And HJW is definitely the best choice for the role. Dunno though…
But I’m okay as well, JWS and CSW are two great choices!
I really hope KSA will be part of it. Especially now that she’s been sporting the bad girl image in recent released pictures.

Son Ye Jin would be perfect. She had great chemistry with JWS in “A Moment to Remember” and being the talented actress that she is, I’m sure she’d blend with CSW on-screen too. With her previous “Open City” role, I’m sure she can do villainous too.

My take on that statement is that goso was trying to belittle the annoyance javabeans feels whenever she sees this common spelling error. Goso then asks another question in a scornful manner.

Either of the two makes a perfect choice for the female lead in Athena. Acting wise – both are competent actresses. Physical compatibility with male leads – both would look good with either of the male leads, although KSA is taller than HJW by several centimeters. Chemistry – this is where I would lean more on KSA. KSA has that certain “rapport” or “affinity” (for the lack of right word) that makes her hit if off with most of her screen partners. She has that certain allure that draws out the best in her co-actors thus making the partnership attractive.
For CSW and JWS, it’s KSA for me.

For my money, it can’t be JWS. If JWS is playing the good guy, and I believe he is playing the good guy, then if KSA comes in, then JWS cannot be OTP’ed with KSA. CSW has got to hook up with KSA.
