Only one news outlet is reporting this, but Jang Geun-seok has reportedly been finalized as the lead in the Korean movie version of You’re My Pet, a remake of Japanese drama Kimi wa petto. The movie had gone through an earlier casting round and selected Kim Hyun-joong as the cute “pet” to a fashion-editor careerwoman, a role that was once rumored to be Su Ae‘s.
According to Star News, Jang has decided on the role and is currently finalizing the details. An A-list actress (yet-unnamed) is the top contender for the female lead, and once the rest of the casting is made official, the movie will begin filming.
This ought to be interesting — back when Kim Hyun-joong was supposedly headlining, I had been turned off because his acting is SO inadequate that it even got in the way of my finding him physically attractive; in Boys Before Flowers, my annoyance with the acting spilled over into annoyance with the character. But Jang Geun-seok is not only pretty, he’s got comic chops as well as dramatic ones. Plus, there’s the fun trivia tidbit of Jang taking over this role from Kim considering that he had initially wanted to play the Ji-hoo role in Boys Before Flowers (which, of course, eventually went to Kim).
(The source article says Jang’s casting is a done deal, but until I see other outlets reporting this news, I’m not fully convinced this is final. For what it’s worth.)

I can’t wait to see him! Kim hyun joong ll be my choice always but not for this movie, i really dont want to see kim hyun joong acting as a ballet dancer. thank god he turned the project down and it went into the right man’s pocket.

hahah…we have the same reaction… I LOVE KIM NAM GIL and JANG GEUN SEOK… They made my February and March very lovely… I am excited in seeing them again… I LOVE JANG GEUN SEOK… He is the best in Tae Kyung character… I don’t like to see him as the second guy, who is going to hurt and heartbroken… He’s been like this in Hong Gil Dong, luckily he didn’t got the Ji- Hoo role… TAE- KYUNG character fits him…. I love and miss his pursing lips moments in You’re Beautiful, “If I’m going to be mad, I lose.” hehehe…so cute…

And kimi wa petto! yeahhhh… Not a big fan of the drama, because it’s def out of my league. But I love MatsuJun, such a good actor for portraying a quirky character like that. And I know that JGS can really pull it off very very well! He’s got the talent man!

I totally agree with you about KHJ. Sorry I’m not a big fan of his nor did I watch BOF drama. But I loved YB and think JGS is way better at acting so I am looking forward to this. I saw the Jap series, and JGS may do well as Momo [as Pet] however I’m not sure how he’ll play Takeshi [as human]. Takeshi is a child prodigy growing pro dancer, and honestly, JGS’ dancing skill is completely awkward (yet comically cute); maybe this was the main reason how KHJ was to favor this role by the casting agent… by those dancing skills… as KHJ’s acting skills have so much room to grow, I believe, he just needs to tap into those zones and grow a new facade of life. Oh well, if the script tries to keep the integrity of the manga then JGS will spend more time refining his dancing skills to pull this Pet character well.
Oh, I hope this news is verified soon. He is so talented and charming. I hope they really take their time and look for just the right female lead… just old enough to be credible.

Sumire needs to be played by a sophisticated, tall and cool lady. Choi Ji Woo? Lee Na Young? Su Ae might fit the bill too. Not YEH, she is too girlish and Anyhow, this is very interesting news. Kimmi Wa Petto is one of my fave Jdramas. Matsujun was absolutely lovable as momochan and he had wonderful chemistry with Koyuki!
No offense people, you can keep on fangirling about JGS but PLEASE leave KHJ out of it. There is no need to bash him. He was OFFERED this project. It was NOT him who asks for it.

You can be a KHJ fan, but please don’t be blind in something that doesn’t exist. We are not bashing his talent as a singer, but being offered a lead ACTING role which he doesn’t deserve and gets people to respond negatively is understandable. JGS is one of those young actors who can really act.

KHJ is cute singer but his acting is so poor , make me laugh in BOF , he might have
