As previously teased (and teased again), Rain (Jung Ji-hoon) is coming back with a drama this year, and the news has finally been confirmed. He will be teaming with the writer and director of Chuno, PD Kwak Jung-hwan (also of Conspiracy in the Court) and writer Chun Sung-il (also of Level 7 Civil Servant).
The drama is titled Runaway [도망자] and will aim for a late-September or October premiere on KBS. However, PD Kwak was rather vague on the details, saying, “We haven’t decided whether it will be 16 episodes or 20, and it could be a spy melodrama but we may change it. I can’t reveal the details of the plot.” Based on previous interviews, it seems that this will be a contemporary project rather than sageuk.
This will be Rain’s first drama in five years, since KBS’s A Love To Kill in 2005. Since then, he’s acted in Park Chan-wook’s quirky psych-ward romance I’m A Cyborg, But It’s Okay, the live-action Speed Racer film, and the blood-n-gore action film Ninja Assassin.
I’m… approaching with caution, but the potential is there for a good drama. Kwak has quite the cinematographic flair and a stylish sensibility, while Chun has penned two blockbuster hits. And while Rain is still pegged with that “idol-turned-actor” label, he’s generally given props for being the successful kind.

LDH was acting good in other dramas but not Chuno , sorry , i like LDH but i’m
disappointed with her acting in Chuno , too stiff , not sincere acting .
JS is pretty but her acting is poor in all dramas , she makes me hate her characters .
Sorry , likely we have to know what kind of drama first before we can suggest actress

@55, I like your point, this drama sure is the male-centric drama, so the female lead must be someone who are very talented, hallyu stars, bcos if the writer still using the Chuno style, the female leads will only become guy escort and no dialogue..If they used unknown or just rising stars with still questionable acting, well good luck to the drama (Maybe Rain status can help it). I remembered, in the whole 24 episodes of Chuno, if you combine all LDH’s dialogue, i think it’s only 1 page-same with OJH, so few dialogue, just actions-luckily both had AMAZING chemistry and individual CHARM, it save their part in the drama.
Good strategy by KBS in combining the PD Kwak with CSI, eventhough the sript might turns out to be weak, the director knows how to fix it.
all those wishes may not be accomplished, main lead actress may turn out shocking surprise, maybe unknown or older actress – Ko or Jeon . but how abt JJH same initials as Rain suppose & he likes to act with her. shk is taboo where Rain concerned, enuf sex scandals dont start anor for heaven sake. whatever cpls seldom in repeated actings – kinda boring & annoying. never like SHK aniway just pretty face cant act hate Full House by fluke it got popular because of Rain not her.

I’ll be honest here : LDH is really pretty and all but she cannot act. I am happy Chuno helped to redeem her reputation somewhat after that East of Eden walkout. She was terrible in her other productions – My Girl, Hello Miss, etc
What a load of codswallop and terrible over-acting
Given the right roles, girls like Sung Yuri, Kim Tae-hee, Kim Hee Sun and Lee Da-hae can make up for what they lack in the acting dept. Case in point – Sung Yuri in The Legendary Hong Gildong
I’d like to see Rain with lesser known actresses like Lee Yeon-hee or even my current fave Kim So-yeon

Actually, the choice of female lead isn’t as important as how the ending will pan out. I cleaned out like 6 boxes of Kleenex watching Sang Doo Let’s go to School and A Love to Kill combined, so I’d give an arm and maybe a leg to see him in a rom-com. But seeing the choice of writers, I doubt so.
But there is nothing to prevent me from hoping
After reading all the comments and just finished watching Chuno, I can’t wait to see this drama-can’t wait to see what the director can bring this time. PD Kwak is one of the most talented young director.
Based on the all videos I saw, no doubt the female can be LDH, the director is interested in her, the writer already mentioned, if he gets a chance to work with LDH again, he will give her meatier role, and LDH is under Rain company (no issue of partnership), so right now, it is just up to her, if she wants the part, she just said YES to the director.
However, I prefer unknown but talented actress, I want a new face. LDH is OK, one of the most versatile actress that I have known, but I don’t want her to gain popularity under somebody name, she don’t need that.
I go for Yoon Eun Hye, Jeon Ji Hyun and HJW no LeeHyori or SUR can’t act, KTH not sexxy enough for Rain.

Rain shud act with talented actress to improve his acting skill. or else why not the versatile jill of all trade Go HyeSun , they look cute together in CF must be good chemistry.
Though LDH is not the best actress out there but she had proved she have what it takes. Her transformation of characters from Green Rose to My Girl is evident enough. Not all her dramas are good. THere are some miss and hits. Chuno was one of them. Though the latter half of the series, she shines more than the first half. But i’m not a fan of Chuno overall. The story is kinda boring to me. The camera work is great.
I prefer someone new and uprising. Song Hye Gyo already worked with Rain. I think Lee Ming Jung is good choice.

I think Sung Yuri will be good for Rain -physically she is tall, slender built , soft and beautiful facial features . She will be a good contrast to Rain’s physique and facial features . She can act given the right material/story/role contrary to criticism hurled at her . They are also both singers and dancers . So there ! And besides they should rotate casting -not only give dramas to same actresses .

RAIN is my one and only favorite..my inspiration..I’m quite sadden by the recent turn of events..I mean his coming military enlistment..I am not ready for his 2 year absence and I guess the rest of his supporters feel the same…Hay….I will miss you RAIN….and I will wait for you even if it takes forever…
