Wed-Thurs battle heats up as ratings numbers rise

Two weeks have given our new Wednesday-Thursday dramas a chance to get settled and establish their stories, and today’s (Wednesday) fifth episode offered the series something of a new direction as they kicked off major storylines. (This isn’t very spoilery if you’ve seen the episodes from last week, but if you don’t want to know a single thing about the episodes’ content, skip to the next paragraph.) For instance, Cinderella’s Sister wrapped up the teenage years and sped forward to eight years later, and also marked the drama debut of Taecyeon. And Personal Taste got going in earnest when Lee Min-ho‘s character begins to make over Sohn Ye-jin‘s unkempt character.

Accordingly, ratings rose for both those dramas. Cinderella’s Sister stands poised to break 20% soon, as its Episode 5 drew a 19.7% (TNS Media, or 19.1% via AGB Nielsen), widening its lead and solidifying its first-place standing. With each episode’s numbers creeping upward, it’s on its way to being a bona fide hit, both ratings-wise and critically. (And deservedly so, in my opinion.) The news was also good for Personal Taste, which dipped a bit in its second week but came back up to a 13% TNS (14.3% AGB). You can probably credit that to Sohn’s prettified appearance (her messy looks were a common complaint of fans used to seeing her more polished), which frankly kinda bums me out a little. (I know Kae-in’s a slob, but she’s so adorable! It’s refreshing to have a heroine who isn’t always dressed in thousand-dollar designer threads.)

Prosecutor Princess, on the other hand, remained stable in third place as its story delved into a child sexual assault case. Its numbers have hardly budged since Episode 1, and in fact the latest 10.8% (or 10.4% AGB) was a repeat of its premiere rating. While ratings can always change, it looks like the rankings have been firmly established and will likely remain in this order. What I’m most curious about is seeing how far Cinderella’s Sister can rise.

Cinderella's Sister is clearly the best drama of the 3. The leads are too good and the I am completely captivated by their characters. These are complex characters portrayed to perfection. The characters in the other dramas are fun, but no where near as compelling as the one in CS.

Dropped PT after two episodes.
Dropped CS after four episodes in which I did not even finish episode 4. Why?. While I agree that MGY, SeoWoo, and CJM are good actors, NOTHING in the plot is moving me emotionally. Pretty much after the fourth episode I'm really BORED of MGY's PO'ed face. I'm having enough bad days in my life that I'd rather dig for something lighthearted and delightful like PP. Besides, its lead actors are only less famous than CS's, not less talented.

I'm agree with the ratings-wise given respectively. I do enjoy CS a lot, and it's currently on my top watch list. It has a different vibe storyline with the others. So I can not compare CS with PT and PP.
Although I have to agree with PP has better plot, storyline, and directing than PT. I enjoy PT more than PP.

I've given all of them a try. My favorite so far though is Prosecutor Princess...the most disappointing would have to be Personal Taste. I really tried to like it because of LMH and SYJ...but the pace of it is just very slow, and I can't stand how nothing really happens in each episode. It's very cliche and predictable...and the pace just makes it even less enjoyable (I've watched up to episode 5, and to me it's still boring even when SYJ prettied up).

I follow Prosecutor Princess because it's the type of genre that I like. Cinderella's Sister isn't bad, but I'm just not all that into the complicated drama. I think the acting in PP is underrated and I wish more people would give it a chance. This drama has the least A-list Korean stars in it, but it's really good.

The ratings are totally justified (which we don't hear often, but so true here).
Agree with many of you... I think that the acting in PT is good, and it's clear the actors work hard. I also really like the supporting characters. But somehow everything feels so "manufactured," and "strategic." Each scene feels calculated, no matter how natural the actors perform. I would kind of be watching it in a detached way, thinking, oh, now I'm supposed to feel a certain way. So far it hasn't made a connection with me. It's enjoyable surely, pure eye candy and predictable laughs. I watch it to come down from CS, which completely grips me from scenery to acting to dialogue and the chemistry between actors...Maybe it's the wine and the the countryside that gives it this natural, earthy feeling as well. It's really uncomparable with the other two dramas - it's got soul.

@48 annae... don't let the thought that CS is a melodrama scare you away... I'm not the type to enjoy melo either, but I overcame that and picked it up, and it's so worth it!

cinderella's sister is WONDERFUL. much much much more so than i'd ever anticipated. it's becoming what man's story was last year.... wow i keep bringing that up haha

but personal taste is a disappointment. lee minho comes across to me as stiff and... well, not such a stretch from BOF. he's just stiff. i actually like son yejin better and i don't even like her! lol but i've got cinderella sister, and life is beautiful, which i picked up last weekend... it had some great lines haha

CS totally deserve 1st first. PP and PT not bad either but those can be put off for later.

Does anyone know where I can watch CS raw? Viikii is just too busy. hehehe not that I will be able to understand anything. But oh so addicting. Thanks

Watching all 3 and hands down: Cinderella's Sister is the winner. I'm too emotionally attached... and tomorrow seems to far away. The preview gave nothing away for eps 6! Darn. Its not often that a drama of this quality comes by and captures me.

Gosh, and I have the theme song "It has to be you" on repeat!

#7- I agree. That "Eun Jo ya" stops me in my track as well. Silence, heart beat and his voice "Eun Jo ya."

as for CS, i'm following the drama and MGY is such a stellar actress..
for me. CS=PP> PT
PP all the way..

I fell in love with PP pretty much when the song Goodbye My Princess by Monday Kiz started playing. I'm sold on this drama!!! CS sounds wonderful but I'm not a melodrama sort of person. PT is a bit flat and I'm not emotionally attached to it. I always look for that drama that tugs my heartstrings and PP does it for me.

I shud watch CS shudn't I??? Dut it just seems soo much of a melodrama. I really hate watching melodramas BUT since i've been reading the comments around here, i shud watch it. PT is soo cliche but its funny and i love the two leads and plus SEULONG from 2am is in the drama && FYI Kae-In looks extremely cute with her messy appearance. PP I thought it was gonna be a horrible drama but it turned out pretty ok, the lawyer is the main reason why imma soo drawn into PP, I just want to find out who is he and what does he want!!

I'm watching CS and PT. PP just did not interest me >.>

I'm so glad that CS is in the lead, because it deserves to be. As everyone else is saying, PT is good, but not great. I've laughed a lot watching it... but I just don't feel like there's anything ~original in it. I feel like... I've watched it before. I will continue watching it because I AM liking it though.

CS is just pure perfection for me. It involves me emotionally in the plot and I feel like I can understand and analyze the characters. I've already cried a few times xD
And hurray for Taecyeon, I started watching this drama because he was in it, and then I forgot he was even supposed to be in it xD it's that goood.

i MUST SAY you have to try watch it al least for 2 episodes and i am sure you'll feel for this drama..
eventhough you may find that Ma Hye Ri is soo annoying but bear with her as she is not completely ignorant or a doormat to everyone else..

Plus, you have In Woo as the hot+mysterious+funny+adorable+sharp tongue lawyer .and Prosecutor Yoon, not to forget..

nevertheless, this drama sure is underrated and i'm quite disappointed BUT my love for PP will never die..

about PT is the only kdram that makes me rolling on the floor laughing
call me shalow and 5 years old kid but I really laughed at it.
and the heroine kinda resembles with me 10 years ago. I've changed a lot but not over night... so the makeover thing I won't buy it. And when he was late even he promised to dinner with her... I would never expect the guy outside ..c'mon a lil' brain u must have - here now I'm a lil'bit like Jin Ho ... doesn't matter how do you feel first think about his reaction...and the desired result...first thing first is the result and after that I can think about my feelings... OMG and I was so naive and stupid like Kae In...after you are fooled around a few times c'mon you must learn from your mistakes... so don't wait outside...
about the clothes SHE DOESN'T HAVE ANY MONEY for now so this would be the tricky part, and I'm sick with million dollars heroin wardrobe for this we have In Hee and Hye Mi
well I really want to see a SMART Kae In
Jin Ho is suppoed to be stiff and he just to reveal some cracks in his armor.
I don't really like Lee Min Ho. (I'm all over Kim Nam Gil looks and acting). I loved Boys Before Flowes because of the 3 Kims and the action and not because of the girl and GJP (the pair didn't looked right to me- this was another "uglified" beautiful actress for the role) and I don't like LMH's diction for me he sounds kinda lisp and his voice I found it annoying.
but I love his faces when he sees the boobs or his look when she's jumping into his arms unaware of the hormonal "troubles" that men have in the morning

and as usually for me the other OTP is more interesting than the main one
Jung Sung Hwa as No Sang Joon is LOL all the time, he's like the lil' minion who will teach you only the wrong way to do it.

Can't watch CS because I can't watch anymore a tears jerker... I'm an optimistic person and my real life problems are right now bigger than a drama with tragic end can provide, so in this depressing year I really need something like Personal taste to get over it

KDrama- watching has never been THIS GOOD!!! I'm watching ALL 3 Dramas...but always start w/ Prosecutor Princess...then Cinderella Sister & lastly...Personal Taste. PP is getting to be more interesting as Ma Hye Ri's fast evolving into a more mature prosecutor & more "humane"!!! + I'm loving PSH's caring yet mysterious character!!!
Cinderella Sister is a solid drama & MGY is an amazing actress...CJM's SMILE is so lovable & the way he calls "Eun Jo-yah"...hmmm...so endearing!!!
Haven't caught up w/ PT yet, but I hope their chemistry gets better...
Thanks for recapping ALL 3 Dramas...I'm in KDrama HEAVEN these days!!!!

I usually don't follow ratings but this is interesting since I started off watching all three.

-CS is by far my #1. Its like living in my DNA. I am totally embodying MGY.

-PP is a distant 2nd. Its light hearted fun and I love KSY. I love the music, clothes and shoes. I don't think it pretends to be anything but a light fluffy romcom but I like it for what it is which is fun.

-PT I've dropped after 2 episodes but I'm following it with recaps since its funnier than the actual show. The problem with PT is all the situations feel contrived. Someone posted that the show tells you how you should feel and I totally agree with that. Plus I really dislike the gay cliches. My own little sore spot.

Cinderella's Sis absolutely deserves to be #1 in the ratings. What I have a problem with is the 2nd and 3rd place dramas.

Prosecutor Princess is a VERY GOOD Drama. I think what amazed me the most was that while watching episode 3, I had just come to the realization that Kim So Yeon WAS her character. I didn't see her as the chick from IRIS, I saw her as the ditzy perky proesecutor princess. The last two episodes that came out were great, very disappointed at the ratings.

Personal Taste...what the hell. Boring as frack. The dude has to pretend to be a gay guy, I mean how long will this have to go on before Gae-In finds out that he isn't a fairy? 20 eps? I'll pass

I think that it's kind of pathetic that people aren't watching "Personal
Taste" just because of Sohn Yi-jin's "non-fashion statement."
HEY, SHE'S.......SUPPOSED TO LOOK.......LIKE AN UNMADE BED!

And I hate to think that LMH's "fans" (especially of the teen-age
variety) aren't watching this delightful rom-com because the
leading lady is old. Please..........cut the woman some slack.
When did 28 become old? Excuse me. You want old? Try 98.
THAT'S OLD.

I watched Episode #5 of "PT" without English sub-titles yesterday.
We got the shopping scene done, and the hair-do make-over, and the
big entrance at the party. And as an added bonus, we also got dinner
featuring the hand-shredded fish. ("Boys Over Flowers" anyone?) :)

As much as I love this rom-com, that's also how aggravated I am.
I'm gonna' hafta' wait.....HOW LONG.....before the DVD comes out? :(

*

If I had never watched "Boys Over Flowers" and didn't know who
anybody was in this rom-com, I would still be enjoying PT an awful lot.
I've never seen SYJ in anything before this. Dramatic actress, you say?
OK........but she does comedy as well as a duck takes to water. And
Lee Min Ho's sidekick and partner in crime, Sang-jun played a serious
role in "My dad loves trouble."

I have just watched CS ep 5 with Chinese subtitles. The pace of this episode is a bit slower. But the last scene is also so memorable. I just wonder if KH's love towards EJ is genuine.......this time. But if not, then KH is also a good actor. Just love this drama so much.

I guess ep 6's rating will be higher than 20%.

PT was way way better than BOF.... BOF started off well but 1/2 way thru, the writer changed direction and spoilt the whole show...

PT is my No.1......... the actors/actresses are great.... the drama sort of started with Son Ye Jin's character and though she is 28, but i love her cuteness in the drama. it was done just nice, even in epi 5 when she was kneeling down to Min Ho's character, she was so cute that i would give that smile like what he did...

Min Ho character in this drama is so different from BOF GJP. It's good to see him choosing the right character after a year of absence.. He really makes me glue to this drama since epi 1. his success in portraying his character in the drama makes me continue watching it.

The supporting casts were so good too.. with such a good cast and maybe not so perfect script(nothing is perfect anyway), how could someone just drop out after epi 2 or 4...

i don't think that PT is not good, it's just this type of drama is not your taste for those who stop watching after epi 2 or 4.... just like CS, i'm not interested because it's not my taste...

i wonder how fast some of you want it to pass by.. it's only epi 2 or 4 that some of you stop watching... if things goes too fast, it's not good.. you can't see the feelings between the lead being build up..

Cinderella sister is so amazing. I knew, KNEW MGY wouldn't fail me. lol. The characters are SO real.

The stellar ratings are also in the face to all those irksome taec fanatics who seemed to think he was cast for 'ratings' (excuse me? Moon Geun Young/Chun Jung Myung much?!) just thinking about that angers me.

But the plot is thickening soo much and the acting is so good (taec hasn't been given anything particular demanding to do as yet but he fits in well enough - I'm looking forward to what he may bring to the table actually) and the ratings have no where to go but up, up, up!

@50 - I wonder what sort of delusional fan-thinking will have you say that. Idols have very little to do with ratings - a case in time: Yunho U-Know in heading to the ground. Please go away.

watching today's personal taste episode has got me totally hooked. I agree in the beginning it was really slow and kind of weird but episode 5 and 6 was soo freaking cute. the way LMH got her pads and the way he took care of her throughout the night.. eek so attractive~ I can't wait until next week to see how the characters develop more.

as for cinderella's sister.. I don't really feel the chemistry between MGY&the other guy. plus don't get me wrong I think taec is cute, but acting-wise is awkward. but since he's a newb he'll probably get better through experience. I really don't like the "cinderella" girl she just seems so whiny and plastic. It's weird to know that she's older, yet is playing the younger sister role.. same goes for MGY who is younger and is playing the older siste. I know this is MGY's change in where she's a darker character, but her eyes to reflect that role is getting overuse...

didn't watch PP, but maybe i'll check it out...

Grrr! KBS is a farce, I tell ya! It's ALWAYS getting the lead ratings! No-fairs!

Naah, truthfully I DO love Cinderella's Sister and having had only watched MGY in 'I Love You, Not' I could see the charm but not the hype - not what set her apart from the many other talented actresses out there-- until episode 4. ]
It's a good show but bad timing for me so will have to give it up for now. I've been watching too many melos over the winter and was looking for something light and fun now, to sandwich the upcoming angst-fests this summer: Giant, Bad Guy, Road No. 1, Athena.

For that PP hits the spot! I absolutely love it!
PT is great too but had to drop it after episode 4's ''turn me into a woman!'' But I love you as you are Sohn Ye-Jin! Whyyy??! *headdesk*

Just watched ep 6. It's a fantastic episode. But some people may not like it because the distance between KH and EJ is getting wider and wider.

The last scene - conversation between mum and EJ is so intense. The lady playing mum is really impressive in this episode. I believe mum do love her daughter in her own way. Though it may not be the way EJ wanted.

This episode gave Seo Woo some chances to elaborate her character. I think HS also loves her sister EJ. She is so happy when EJ tells her that she is beautiful. And she is really worried and upset when EJ fainted and got sick. I hoped that she will understand her sister and break the wall between them one day, 'cause EJ will not be the one to do this. Seo Woo did a good job for this episode.

But I am getting nervous on the development of KH. He is turning into a bad guy. I felt so torment to see KH agreeing to his father's plan and giving up his love. I hoped that KH would not be used and sold by his dad once again. I hoped the director can also give some more scenes for CJM to develop KH's character. Anyway, this drama is a lady drama. The 2 male actors seemed to be the supporting actors so far. They are used for explaining the story's development but have not yet been given the chance to perform fully like MGY. It's not quite fair to them.

I think the first 4 episodes just gave us the starter which tasted so sweet that we might not be able to accept the bitterness in the later episodes. The script is really good and intense.

Need to wait for one more week again. Sigh!

CU is a winner to me. Good acting from everyone especially Seo Woo. In the 2 last episodes I felt for her the most even though her character has flaws and SW stroke me the most by her acting and lookwise, she is HS from head to toe. Suprisingly Taec did not make me cringe. He is a newcomer but I have not yet seen overacting in his part. He was better than I think he would be. Anyway I hope he confirm in the next episodes.

Prosecutor Princess is second best. PSH and KSY have chemistry and they have charisma. This is sometimes slow but the plot and the storyline is not boring.

Personal taste is the worst. I don't think SYJ is bad actingwise but she does not shine with "actor" like LMH. the latter is so stiff in PT (like in BOF). The drama is boring. He is unconvincing in his role (he looks like SYJ dongseng when he is supposed to be his oppa) and I noticed he has no chemistry with his female co-stars. I like KJS here. Even though his character is annoying he acts convincing. I think what saves the show is the LMH fangirling...

This is not a new I find this guy simply overrated actingwise ! But now I have the proof. He is not really good here too. He is not convincing as an architect older than SYJ. He does not have the vibe. Even people forget this is not a noona/dongseng drama... If an actor is bad, popular or not, I will say it ! Sorry but I am not blinded by the so called "cute" (the only thing I heard about him since the drama started) thing. About SYJ I dont think she is as bad as people (most of them are LMH's fangirls) say. She is even good not extra but the lead actor next her is stiff, not in her level !

You can be very sarcastic with other people's views, and you can easily ridicule some drama or some actor who other people think is wonderful or talented. But if someone questions your views you don't seem to be LMAO anymore, do you?

I consider that Lee Min-ho is a very talented actor. I will continue to watch whatever he is involved with, in the future. You think that he has no talent. Fine. So why do you continue to watch Personal Taste? Can you post a comment here without being insulting to other people? Or do you enjoy what you do?

How dare you rationalize and belittle my opinion by calling me " a fangirl?" (I am the grandmother of two grandaughters, aged ten and eleven.) Is this the only way that you can retaliate, when someone answers back to your insults? Are you assuming that you must educate those less brilliant than youself with the only correct opinion (yours) which is why you have the nerve to quote comments from others, and then proceed to write, "LMAO?"

Quote from your comment: "Lee Min Ho is hot!"
When and / or where did I say that? I'M TALKING ABOUT HIS ACTING TALENT.
His performance in "Boys Over Flowers," and now in "Personal Taste."
If you can't see it on your TV screen, that's your problem.
But you picked the wrong person to attack, honey.......

Quote from you: "@ JG : are you LMH wife ? Are LMH ?"
No. I'm not Lee Min-ho's wife. And I'm not Lee Min-ho.

Who are you, lilly?
The wife of whichever actor lost the role of Gu Jun-pyo to someone better?
You certaily qualify, since your LMH comments are always so bitter and vindictive.

And thanks for making me "LMAO" by comparing yourself favorably to javabeans.
JB is tolerent, fair, accurate, funny, and respectful of other's opinions.
You, on the other hand..........are not.
