All right, now THIS I can get behind!
Kim Min-jong has been added to Athena: Goddess of War, and not only do I love him as an actor, the character sounds great: He plays “Kim Ki-soo,” a North Korean intelligence agent who is arrested by South Korean agents while stationed in China, and then defects to the South. Thus begins a close partnership with the series’ lead star Jung Woo-sung, who plays a South Korean spy. How awesome does that sound, right?
Kim is making a complete 180 from his previous image — serious, gentle — by playing an impudent and snobby character in Athena. In fact, he has been so good at playing the sensitive guy (refer to his heartbreaking Officer Gu in The Return of Iljimae) that if he hadn’t recently gone for an action role in A Man Called God (see above photo), I wouldn’t be sure whether the casting was right. I do recall that he was pretty good at playing a cad in the cable drama Hyena, though, so I have faith he can be convincing as a brash spy.
Athena has just piqued my flagging interest! Aside from Kim and Jung, it also stars Cha Seung-won, Su Ae, and Lee Jia.
