Oh My Lady: Episode 16 (Final)

Ah, the end is here! I suspect this episode made most if not all fans very happy, as it tied up the plot in a light-hearted but satisfactory way that was in keeping with the tone of the drama. It’s too bad that things didn’t get really compelling until about Episode 10 (then stepped it up with Episode 12 on — incidentally when Yura took a big step backward — coincidence? I think not) — which is frankly rather late for me to be connecting with a drama.

It’s to the actors’ credit that their amusing and sweet interactions were able to carry the plot until the story finally managed to tap into that emotional place with Min-woo’s growth as a father and as a person. I’m just glad that this one ended on a high note, because so many finale episodes feel like a letdown — they’re either too rushed or dragged out as an extended epilogue.

FINAL EPISODE RECAP

Min-woo asks Kae-hwa to be Ye-eun’s mother, explaining that he had purposely waited to ask her until after the musical premiered. Nobody could be as good a mother to Ye-eun as she is, “And I need you. Let’s marry.”

(Omo! Usually when episodes end on cliffhangers, the next episode drops the tension back down, but in this case they just upped the ante.)

Kae-hwa is stunned, but Min-woo adds, “I’m not saying this out of the blue. I’ve thought this over seriously for a long while. Think it over, then give me your answer. I can wait as long as you need.”

Min-woo is invited along for a celebratory drink with The Show Co. staff, and Jae-hee remarks that it feels like Min-woo’s a part of their office family now, seeing as he has come to all their gatherings. Min-woo smiles and, while looking at Kae-hwa, says pointedly, “I think so too. It feels like a family.”

He’s extra solicitous to her, offering little things like napkins and such, which Shi-joon finds amusing while Kae-hwa is exasperated. When the others urge her to drink more, Min-woo swoops in to play the “black knight,” i.e, drink for her.

Min-woo’s behavior is so noteworthy that Jae-hee asks teasingly if their fake scandal is actually real. Kae-hwa blurts, “No!” just as Min-woo answers, “Yes.” (Such a mixed reaction makes the others think there’s more to this relationship than they’re letting on, and they exchange knowing looks.) Kae-hwa rises to leave early because of the kids, and Min-woo hurriedly excuses himself too, accompanying her out.

Kae-hwa is impatient with his exaggerated attentiveness, and says that she’ll give her answer now: “I’m not going to marry again.” He asks her to think about it some more, but she replies that a lot of thought has already gone into making this decision (not to remarry).

A bit indignant, he says it’s cowardly to swear off marriage because her first one failed. Maybe she just met the wrong guy the first time — it’s always possible she’ll meet a good person the second time around.

Kae-hwa replies that she doesn’t want to entertain such an expectation, and besides, she has Min-ji. He counters that a daughter isn’t a husband — and once Min-ji grows up and gets married, will she be fine being alone? That makes her pause briefly, but she reasserts her stance.

Min-woo: “Are you that afraid?”
Kae-hwa: “Yes, I am! Do you know what marriage is?”
Min-woo: “‘What do you know when you have no life experience?’ Is that what you’re telling me?”
Kae-hwa: “You haven’t been hurt so you don’t know. You don’t know what that pain is of promising to love each other for the rest of your life and having that shattered. So please don’t talk to me about marriage again. I’m sorry to say it like this.”

She walks off, leaving him pondering her words.

Kae-hwa’s words make him look deeper into the cause of her resistance. Thus the next morning, he intercepts Byung-hak just as the latter is leaving his house (humming “Sorry Sorry” in a meta moment, lol).

Min-woo gets to the point, asking aggressively what the heck Byung-hak did to Kae-hwa to make her swear off marriage forever. Byung-hak returns that this is hardly his concern, but Min-woo says it matters “because it’s a hindrance to her marrying me.”

Byunk-hak’s reaction is pure confusion: “Why?” Why would he want a woman like Kae-hwa when he’s a star? Min-woo presses on with his question, which elicits a roundabout answer about how she’s a difficult and tiring woman to live with. Min-woo watches with narrowed eyes, reading between the lines — he cheated, huh?

Defensively, Byung-hak turns it around on Kae-hwa, saying she doesn’t know how to make herself pretty; it felt like he was living with a housekeeper. In fact, he never bought even her flowers — not because he forgot or anything, but simply because he never felt inspired to buy them for her. You know, since looks are the only reason for loving a woman and all. (I’m not even offended by this comment, because Byung-hak is such a silly idiot that the sentiment has no sting coming from him.)

Min-woo asks if he ever apologized for hurting her. Byung-hak laughs, saying it’s embarrassing to do that. Min-woo tells him firmly, “Apologize to her. Ask her officially for her forgiveness.” Byung-hak finds this an odd demand coming from Min-woo, who replies, “I’m asking as the man who loves her.”

Now that Min-woo has made up his mind to woo Kae-hwa, he gets busy trying to win her over. For instance, he waits outside her apartment to give the girls a ride to school, and reacts in concern to hear Kae-hwa hasn’t eaten breakfast. After dropping off the girls, he takes her to a fancy buffet, where he even serves her.

Kae-hwa worries over the pricy food, trying to convince him to watch his spending because he must have lost a lot of money in the cancelled endorsement deals. Min-woo answers matter-of-factly that they probably add up to about 3 billion won ($2.5 million), but is unfazed. He’s got money in the bank and is confident he can get more work; he’ll consider this a luxurious hiatus from work.

Unimpressed, Kae-hwa urges him to adopt a frugal attitude and says she’s better off than he is, since at least she has a regular salary.

At work, a huge arrangement of red roses is delivered, addressed to Kae-hwa from Min-woo. While the other employees all smile at her knowingly, Kae-hwa tries to explain it away in innocent terms: “Can’t this be a thank-you?” They don’t buy it for a second.

Min-woo sends her a text, which is totally over-the-top and ridiculous (“More beautiful than a flower… Kae-hwa”). Embarrassed and uncomfortable, Kae-hwa says she’ll clear the flowers out of the office and takes them to the stairwell, thinking Min-woo is being shameless. But they do bring a smile to her face, as it’s been ages since she’s received flowers from anyone (which is why Min-woo made the gesture in the first place, in reaction to Byung-hak’s remark).

Next, Min-woo takes a cake to Bok-nim in thanks for treating Ye-eun, then asks for a favor, as she is a friend to Kae-hwa. His statement that “I’m intending to marry Yoon Kae-hwa” so shocks her that Bok-nim drops her coffee and stares at him incredulously.

Bok-nim rushes to ask Kae-hwa about it, wanting to know when the wedding is. She dismisses Kae-hwa’s grumbling that he’s just a kid — 28 is plenty grown-up, and the seven-year age difference is nothing. How can she let a guy like him slip through her fingers?

Kae-hwa grumbles that Min-woo’s proposal asked her to be Ye-eun’s mother, not his wife. Bok-nim sees through Kae-hwa’s complaining and smiles: “You really do like Min-woo.” That’s why she’s disappointed over the wording of his proposal, right? Bok-nim waves aside her resistance, saying that if they like each other, what’s the big deal? In her eyes, Min-woo is serious about her.

Min-woo takes the family out to a nice restaurant. Kae-hwa is self-conscious about coming to a place like this where they’ll be watched, but Min-ji enjoys eating out for once, and Min-woo tells her that it doesn’t matter to him. He pats Ye-eun on the head, saying, “I’m going to raise her proudly, since she’s my daughter.” Which is probably the most effective thing he could have said to impress her, and she allows herself to look at him with moony eyes (but only when he’s not looking back at her).

When Kae-hwa takes Ye-eun to the bathroom, Min-woo tries to make conversation with Min-ji. He sees this as a chance to suss out her thoughts and asks if she’d like having a sister like Ye-eun. Min-ji is pretty sharp and asks point-blank, “Are you going to marry my mother?” Her bluntness takes him by surprise, but he confides that he wants to. Still, he has to first hear out Min-ji’s opinion and wait for her mother’s answer.

She asks, “If you end up marrying my mother and then a prettier lady comes along, are you going to divorce my mom?” Min-woo gapes incredulously, but Min-ji points out that he works with beautiful actresses all the time: “If you betray my mother, it’ll be so sad for her.”

He tells her solemnly, “That’ll never happen. I’ll promise that to you.” They pinky-swear on it.

The musical continues its run and after another of Min-woo’s performances, he calls Kae-hwa, who is working late — or at least, she lies that she is. He offers to pick her up from the office, but for whatever reasons (fear, insecurity, nerves), Kae-hwa rejects the offer.

Reporter Han overhears Min-woo muttering to himself after the call, and says knowingly that he must be stuck in an unrequited love. Min-woo is wary, but Reporter Han has some insights about the situation, and his comments pique Min-woo’s curiosity. Wanting to hear more thoughts on his situation, Min-woo goes along with the reporter’s suggestion to grab a drink.

Kae-hwa works late, keeping herself busy to avoid going home right away. Finding her still in the office, Shi-joon offers her a ride home, and they pause for a break to talk. Tentatively, Kae-hwa says she hopes that he and his wife can give things another try, as it seems they still care for each other. Although Shi-joon doesn’t respond, he’s not offended by her statement and in fact seems to consider her words.

He turns the topic to Min-woo, asking how things are between them. Kae-hwa can’t feign ignorance since Shi-joon knows too much, but first she asks how much he knows. He answers, “One person is sending flowers, but the other person doesn’t seem ready to receive them.”

She confirms that Min-woo seems to be serious about a relationship but she’s not sure; she doesn’t feel confident that she can be seen “as a woman” to anybody. Shi-joon tells her she can — enough that he felt something for her for a short while. This stuns her, as he had never given any hint of his interest, but Shi-joon assures her that there is no cause for alarm. He has dealt with his feelings, and things won’t get awkward between them.

Liquor loosens Min-woo’s reserve (and his tongue) enough that he starts to talk freely about his woes, wondering how Kae-hwa can reject his proposal. Grabbing his laptop, the reporter starts to take notes, asking questions about why she rejected him and how long he’s had feelings for her. And I love Min-woo’s answer:

Min-woo: “Since we went looking for Ye-eun. No — since she had to go to the sauna because of me. No — since she fought with Mr. Jung [Yoon-seok]. Or was it from the beginning?”

Reporter Han says he must like her quite a lot, and Min-woo answers, “Yes, an awful lot. She’s different from the women I dated in the past. She’s beautiful. That’s why I think, ‘This is my woman.'” With that, he falls asleep, his head coming to rest on the tabletop.

Huh — well, this is a new side to Min-woo, and the reporter finds him pretty pure-hearted after all. It’s nothing like the partying image he’d had earlier. He starts typing a story about Min-woo’s “heartfelt love story” and uses words like “rebirth as a real actor.”

Han’s article spawns a wave of press, which now portrays Min-woo in a much more down-to-earth, humanistic light. They even declare that he has now washed off the disgrace of his former image as a lousy actor.

Yoon-seok is dissatisfied — I guess this good press does him no good, since he has lost his hold on Min-woo — but everyone else’s opinion of Min-woo makes a drastic upswing. He presents himself modestly in interviews, and even producer Eom is impressed with him. In fact, Eom gives himself credit for having recognized Min-woo’s talents early on, but Byung-hak scoffs since he didn’t do anything about them. Eom counters that he’ll get Min-woo for his next production.

Eom isn’t the only one wanting to cast Min-woo, and Shi-joon conveys an offer to Min-woo from a Japanese producer colleague, who has sent a proposal for Min-woo to take a role in a Japanese drama. Min-woo is pleased with the news, but as soon as he sees that he’d have to live in Japan for a year, he declines. Shi-joon thinks it’s a great opportunity, but Min-woo answers that he has somebody to watch over here.

And that’s not all: Jae-hee hands Kae-hwa some documents to give to Min-woo, which are papers for a new advertising contract offer worth 1 billion won (nearly $1 million). Apparently advertisers love his new image as a dedicated young single father.

Kae-hwa takes the documents to Min-woo’s photo shoot, where he takes a break from posing for a makeup touchup. The makeup artist tells him that his “scandal partner” (Kae-hwa) is really below his level, and offers to introduce him to a younger model friend. She describes the girl as one of those innocent-looking beauties, to which Min-woo answers, “I like sexy women.”

Naturally this is hardly thrilling for Kae-hwa to hear, even though Min-woo is actually making that quip as a way to reject the date. (Rather than saying no outright, saying that he prefers sexy women is a way of declining her friend, who is the opposite.)

Feeling dispirited, Kae-hwa decides not to approach and starts to leave. She runs into Yura, who congratulates her on her relationship and assures her that she has decided to move on.

Kae-hwa hands the envelope to Yura and asks for her to give it to Min-woo, making up the excuse that she’s busy and has to leave. Yura does, and when Min-woo hears the reason, he hurries out and tries to call Kae-hwa. Alas she isn’t answering the phone, so he goes to the theater, where he is told she is still back at the office.

Shi-joon finds her on the roof ignoring Min-woo’s phone call, and offers her a beer. In her melancholy mood, Kae-hwa offers to tell Shi-joon a “really funny story” and confides that Min-woo proposed to her. Even funnier is the fact that her heart thrilled to hear it. It was exciting to be seen as a woman again — but today, that feeling was shattered.

I’d assumed she was hurt by the makeup stylist’s dismissive comments about her, but I’m actually relieved that those words weren’t the cause of her mood. In actuality, it was the sight of him in action, looking like a star, that made her feel like they were completely unsuited for each other: “He seemed like someone from another land.”

Shi-joon points out that Min-woo was a star from the start — it’s not like she didn’t know. Kae-hwa answers that at the beginning, he had nothing to do with her so that wasn’t an issue. But as they got to know each other, she saw him struggling and felt sorry for him, and nagged him when he said silly things — and those things felt comfortable and manageable. Now that he’s doing better… it’s like he’s back to being a lofty star and the chasm is growing between them.

Shi-joon tells her that Min-woo likes her very much — enough to give up a drama opportunity for her. “Min-woo has changed this much — shouldn’t you recognize his feelings?”

Min-woo arrives at the office to find it empty, then recalls the roof. He arrives outside just in time to see Kae-hwa wiping away some tears. So much about this situation upsets him, and he strides up to her, grabs her wrist (urg!), and takes her downstairs.

He feels hurt that she has been ignoring his calls and avoiding him, particularly when she knew he was waiting for her — and now she’s here crying in front of Shi-joon — and raises his voice to a yell. Kae-hwa tells him levelly that she has already given him her reply, but he ignored it. No matter how she thinks about it, they don’t suit.

He argues that if he cared about those things — age, status — he would never have liked her from the start. She returns that this is just proof that he’s young, and they should quit while they’re ahead. And he should go to Japan.

That gets his attention: “Is that why?” He explains that he didn’t tell her about the Japan offer because he never intended to go. She takes issue with his high-handedness in dragging her away, saying that she’s ashamed of him when he does that, and gets angry and starts fights out of misunderstandings.

Min-woo asks, “So are you saying you can’t marry me? Are you saying I won’t do because I’m immature and young?” Kae-hwa answers yes. She can’t marry someone who reacts in such unpredictable ways — it makes her feel uneasy. She storms off, leaving him to shout her name in frustration.

You know, I’m actually relieved that they had this fight. They’ve never fought for real, and this addresses issues that they’ve been skirting thus far. It’s also nice to see some real conflict — genuine emotional clashing and hurt feelings — rather than the glib, fluffy sort of conflict that has characterized most of this show.

That night, Byung-hak calls Kae-hwa, who finds him drunk and in a thoughtful mood. To her surprise, he tells her, “I’m sorry.” He acknowledges that he never apologized properly, so he’s doing it now. She did nothing wrong — he’s the bad guy — and they divorced because he wronged her. But he felt too embarrassed to apologize, so he couldn’t do it: “But after listening to Sung Min-woo, I felt I was really wrong, and that I had to apologize. So I came here.”

That surprises her — he met Min-woo? Byung-hak gives Min-woo some credit for the way he had insisted he apologize, admitting that the kid was pretty impressive with the way he said, “As the man who loves Yoon Kae-hwa, please apologize.”

He says it one more time: “Kae-hwa, I’m sorry. I was wrong. I pushed you aside and hurt your feelings — forgive me for everything. Forget that all, and make a new start. And if he upsets you, come and tell me right away, and I’ll give him a scolding.”

(Aww. An unexpectedly touching moment from Byung-hak. As with the last time he defended Kae-hwa, this gives us a glimpse into why they were married in the first place while also showing us why they didn’t work. It’s rare to see ex-spouses in a drama ending on amicable terms, and it’s a nice change.)

Min-woo comes home feeling frustrated, and looks over his drama proposal documents. This gives him an idea, and he starts typing away. And when we see what he’s drafting — gahhh, Min-woo is so cute. I about died reading the title of his document: “Proposal On Living For Yoon Kae-hwa.”

In the morning, he comes to her apartment and gives her the envelope. He looks at her with puppy dog eyes and tells her to give her response after reading it.

Kae-hwa reads Min-woo’s proposal, which is formatted like a business document. In keeping with the theme of the drama proposal packet, he has drawn up Kae-hwa’s resumé, only it’s more like a life resumé than a professional one, outlining her traits and skills such as “she has a loud voice,” “makes killer ddukbokki and kimbap,” and “she likes Kim Myung-min better than Sung Min-woo, but I want to forgive her anyway.” Also of note: she has become a mother to Ye-eun, “and now is the woman in my heart.”

Under the “future plans” column, he has scheduled marriage in a month, a vacation cruise to celebrate their one-year anniversary, and so forth. Byung-hak’s apology had started to melt her resolve, and now she has to smile a teeny bit at Min-woo’s document.

Jung-ah has been offered a job in Daejeon, which is located in central Korea and about a two-hour drive from Seoul. She asks Shi-joon for his approval, suggesting that they need some space between them. As she leaves, she tells him that she realizes she hasn’t been the best wife to him either (I presume she means before the adultery, since otherwise that statement would be met with a resounding DUH).

But the door isn’t closed on them forever — with Shi-joon now opening up more to Jung-ah and realizing his part in driving his wife away, it looks like they’re leaving room for a reconciliation later, after they’ve both healed. Shi-joon even says he’ll go down to visit her on the weekend.

Min-woo performs another show, after which he checks his phone and tries to contain his disappointment that Kae-hwa hasn’t called. To his (happy) surprise, Kae-hwa finds him sitting in the empty theater, here with a much more conciliatory attitude than the last time they saw each other.

As we know, important conversations must always relocate to prettier environs (can you imagine that car ride over to the waterside? Most awkward silence ever).

Kae-hwa apologizes for her harsh words, telling Min-woo that she didn’t mean it when she pushed him away. She asks for his understanding and also thanks him for thinking of her life and her future (i.e., in his proposal) in such a serious way.

Min-woo has been looking pensive and tense throughout her speech, like he’s bracing himself, sensing that she’s ready to deliver her final decision. So it takes a moment for her next words to really sink in, as she tells him:”So I’m thinking of being courageous now. Thanks to you, I think I can do that now.”

She adds that she’d always thought she would just focus on being a solid support for Min-ji’s benefit, “But if things get hard, it’s okay if lean on someone now.” Min-woo smiles and steps forward to hug her gently, thanking her for her answer. Kae-hwa thanks him back for letting her be courageous again.

Min-woo then thanks her for watching over him and Ye-eun all this while. He promises that from now on, he’ll protect her.

And then they get the swirly-camera kiss — which is a nice way to bookend the drama, considering that this is very similar to how we started. Only, now it actually means something.

The end!

COMMENTS

I picked up Oh My Lady because (1) when it started I had the time, as none of the current Wednesday-Thursday shows had premiered yet and I had no other recap commitments, (2) I had just finished its timeslot predecessor Wish Upon a Star, which was a happy surprise, and therefore anticipated a similar tone for this one, and (3) I wanted to keep up the watching and recapping momentum. There’s also (4) the matter of loving Chae Rim (and wanting her to pick a more enjoyable project than her last, Good Job, Good Job) and (5) the fact that I had pegged Choi Siwon as an idol-star-turned-actor to watch out for after Story of Hyang Dan back in ’07. (See? There IS some thought that goes into these decisions, however random the choices may ultimately seem!)

About halfway through the drama, however, I found my interest flagging, but not enough to drop the show. Even the less interesting episodes were easy to watch, and it wasn’t a challenging show in either theme or plot, so keeping up wasn’t too much of a hardship. I did, however, start thinking that if the actual plot development got any SLOWER, I would seriously consider dropping it.

Ultimately I’m glad I stuck with the show, and the last four episodes in particular gave me a sense of satisfaction about the drama as a whole. It turned into a different drama than the one it originally seemed — which pointed at the hijinks of a star falling for his ajumma maid/manager — and focused much more on Min-woo’s development as a father than as a romantic partner. I don’t think the romance came out of nowhere, but it wasn’t a priority, and that was actually refreshing.

I won’t call Choi Siwon a brilliant actor — he’s pretty decent, but he’s still got a long way to go if he’s going to keep pursuing an acting career, and I think he should — so rather than pure acting skills, it’s his personal charm that carries the character. I mean, just look at that smile, right?

It doesn’t hurt that he’s perfectly cast — image isn’t everything, but it’s a pretty significant part of how we approach a character. And when you cast a star to play a star, you’ve always got that benefit of the audience’s meta awareness of the actor’s real-life fame. (Also see: Choi Ji-woo in A Star’s Lover, Rain in Full House, Jang Geun-seok in You’re Beautiful, Kim Ah-joong in Accidental Couple.)

It was a leetle disappointing to have so little screentime for the two girls in the last episode, but we’ve seen enough of the Cute in previous episodes that I was content to let this finale be Min-woo and Kae-hwa’s exclusively. (Well, there were a few Shi-joon and Jung-ah moments, but I choose to skip right over them in my mind. Yawn. I’m satisfied, story-wise, with where they ended, but don’t need to dwell any longer on them.)

And then there’s Chae Rim. To be honest, I don’t think this is the best vehicle for her, even though the drama really benefits from having her in it. Therefore I’m glad for the drama’s sake, but she’s an actress whose talents weren’t fully used here — particularly since her character was less developed than Min-woo’s, and hardly changed at all. She made the most of it, tapping into a vulnerable side of Kae-hwa that gave the character a hint of depth. But I hope to see her tackling something more challenging in the future, and something out of the ajumma mold, as she’s done two in a row.

All in all, Oh My Lady was a sweet, cute series that could be a fun way to spend a breezy weekend with some unchallenging but personable characters, and that will leave you smiling at the end.

@doraemon - I do love the "No Other" performances too. I appreciate the song more now that I can see them sing it. Love the uniforms too (it was either a concept or the stylist got lazy!).

Howzit my OML friends -

Congrats on breaking 400! Upward and onward!

@doraemon - Thanks for keeping up on your tweets to Siwon. Perhaps he'll serve us a glance or two or three...

@ace - Great pic with "our" man (haha). I "liked" it and hope you get a lot more so you can get what you deserve!

@Koreanpsyche - Hey, long time no see! Thanks for the congrats, and stay longer next time - we miss you.

@sajor, twubble, firsttimenewbie - Where are you all? Drop us a line, or a lot more. We miss you all and your contributions.

@lumi - Thanks, as always, for those links - lso to whoever else who includes links that help us see what's going on with Suju, Siwon, OML, and other fun stuff.

@Mel - You done packing yet? Or unpacking? Such a tedious process, a necessary evil, but survivable. Bet you'll be sooo glad for it to be done with. Thanks for still taking the time to comment.

I wanted to ask your thoughts on when Min Woo got his friends together for a drink. Was it mainly to touch base with them? To get info on the mother of Ye Eun?

It was spurred on with the arrival of Ye Eun. From this meeting of friends, we learned they seldom get together, primarily due to MW's scary/controlling manager. Nothing else really comes to mind, except that afterwards, in MW's "bad dream" of what could happen if the scandalous news were to get out, he envisions his friends donating money to him as he's waitering at a restaurant with his kids in tow.

Hello to all the Angels in the OMLHaven-Hood......... Congratulations all, it's now heading to 500 and beyond... finally got the internet connection, the iphone screen is so small and the keyboard gets tedious--now I can get to Dramabeans OML ep 16 rant and rave and immediately log on.. Yesterday, my husband and I watched a kdrama he'd missed to the end!!! ... one less kdrama to worry about..

@405 kappy (longggg sigh) am not done unpacking... 'am discovering treasures/junk-clutter and... it's no fun... then having to have reality hit... I wish I had a magic wand that would just help to clear everything up. At least now we can walk straight around the place, last week we had to walk sideways to get from one place to another!!! Luckily someone decided they needed our used boxes and so recycling is done for that.

before I go on... here's an unsubbed SBS Stronghearts with SW, KY, DH as the guests and of course LT, EY and SH are few of the mainstays. As always, SW stands out and gets teased. It looks like he's standing on his own. He looks quite comfortable though even with the teasing. Can't wait 'til someone subs it. Also am waiting for Win Win with SW to be subbed. It's difficult to watch and it's looking like the guests are having so much fun but no Eng subs... oh well, just gotta wait. There 8 parts, enjoy.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1OFxvebWt4&feature=channel

It's funny how really this is turning into a SuJu ELF... club in addition to the OMLHaven. Of course, I checked out the Kang In pre enlistment gathering. SW stood out didn't he. It's funny how it was a sad moment for Kang In, but many posted how "our boy" stood out among the other members of SuJu. I wonder how the Athena filming schedule will affect SW's presence in the SS3 and SMTown concerts? I hope SW will be in the L A Staples Center concert. I'll end up bringing a real gun vs a water gun... (... ummm kidding really.. but I'd be super pissed if he won't be there...)

I still have lots of unpacking and garbage fetching to do before I feel comfortable. Thanks for all the entertaining posts on OML, SuJu, hobbies, books...etc, it's so much fun. Have you guys listened to JB and GF's 2nd podcast yet? I'd love to join in. I bet we'd all be like a crazy bunch talking over each other.

Have a great day to all you the Angels in the OMLHaven-Hood, 'til next time....

@405 kappy - thank you for adding to the people who liked it. Even if I don't win Siwon's portrait, I'm still happy that I got to participate in it. Not that i'm giving up yet! Fighting! =)

@406 mel - Welcome back! Thank you for the SBS Stronghearts link. I also saw the pictures of Suju supporting KangIn's enlistment. Siwon looked a little thin, but he looked really good. My co-worker saw it and asked me if he was their "leader". He looked so mature compared to the other members. I hope he's not wearing himself out with his busy schedule. I saw JB's comments on Athena's teaser poster and agree that it looks a bit cheesy, but nonetheless, umm "don't judge the k-drama by it's poster"? Hehe! I hope you get to see Siwon on the SMTown concert. I'll just wait for my turn at SS3.

OML/Siwon/SuJu fans, I hope you enjoy this. It's a relay talk among the 13 Suju members. I've seen this ages ago but forgot to post. The guys are introducing each other. As usual, Siwon and Heechul's bit are so fun to watch. They have great chemistry/bromance!

Good morning all -

@ace - I enjoyed watching those relay talks of Suju. They really seemed thoughtful/ reflective as they considered what they would say about their friends. It is really nice to catch a glimpse of the relationships they have with each other, their honesty, their good nature, their humor. The fact that Heechul claims to be an athiest and Siwon, a Christian, and they still love, respect, and get along well with each other tells you a lot about them. It's funny when Heechul said something to the effect of "I knew he'd say that to me, 'cause he always does" re: Siwon's wish for him to be happy in Jesus (forgot exact words).

@Mel - Thanks for the links of Strongheart and CR's lead men. You know my favorite..

@408 Ace, thanks for the YT links to the relay talks among the Suju members ! I enjoy watching them, and my favourites are #10 – Kibum to Siwon and #11 – Siwon to Heechul (yes, yes, I'm biased.......). It is the first time I saw Kibum, he seems the quiet type; and I like the interactions between Siwon and Heechul, the 2 are so funny, especially the part Heechul imitated Siwon (saying Siwon always has opinion on everything).

But how come some of them look so different from now (sorry, I'm a new Suju fan) ? I almost couldn't recognise Kyuhyun, Hankyung and even Heechul. Talking about looking different, I have been wanting to ask this long time ago, I somehow find Min-woo / Si-won look different in the 1st scene on 1st episode showing he was filming on the set, but I can't pinpoint why ? Is it because of the hair style or what ?

@411 Ace, thanks for the MV of No Other, I have been waiting for it !!!

@412 Mel, thanks for the YT links, I shall watch them later ..............

@ doraemon - Yup, it's the hair! And maybe their ages too. The relay talk was part of the DVD of their second album Don't Don (Repackaged Version 3). That was in 2007. They really looked young back then. As to Min-woo on episode 1, it's the hair. Even Chae-rim's hair looked different in episode 1 that's why she looked a little different too.

No Other MV: It's a cute video, right? It's a contrast to the "dark" Bonamana MV. I'm just glad that Siwon & Kyuhyun was in it even if they weren't in on the dance parts. Honestly, my first reaction to the video, specifically Siwon's part, was "Who's that girl? Why is he smiling at her?" Hahaha! =)

Hello everyone! It has been quite a while!!! I was (still am) so busy , I did not even had the time (and the energy) to post messages here. But honestly, I visited this site every other day just to keep me updated on what you have been up to.

@ACE: i am simply dying with envy of your vacation plans....certainly wish i could go to Korea with you! BUT no time this year, maybe next year? with KAPPY?

@412 MEL.....thanks for the 18 vs 29 video clips. when I watched the series years ago, i found this boy really cute. I didn't realize it was Choi Si Won! ( I was able to watch just the first clip; i plan to watch all of them when i find the time).

...gotta go (AGAIN!) goodbye for now...thanks for your continuous support of this
site!

by the way, just finished downloading movies based on Jane Austen's novels, (including 3 different versions of P&P, 2 different versions of S & S and EMMA). I am of the opinion that the BBC mini series are still the best! I am sure i will somehow find the time to watch all of these. SOON.

@Mel, Ace - Thanks again for those links. I felt like I must do my homework and watch them all. Mission accomplished! You can test me now.

Eunhyuk was so cute trying to calm that baby down. If he didn't realize or appreciate just how much moms/parents do in caring for a child, he has a better idea now. And (talking about how their looks have changed) his look now compared to back then, my goodness - man vs. boy. One example - him doing his dance in the No Other MV. I, for one, would appreciate that video gift.

Speaking of the No Other MV, I missed Siwon and Kyuhyun dancing, but Kyuhyun showed up in the shot at the very end. Siwon was still missing in action in that shot (perhaps he was busy filming Athena), but I'm glad we got those cute scenes of him (with the girl, but not of the girl). Yeah, I was like you, Ace. Who is that girl? She's not even all that! Haha. (We never saw her face, but the evil green monster in me still surfaced.) If you notice, that same girl showed for some of the other guys' love presentations. A fan commenting on YT said she represented us, the fans. Okay, I'll take that. The girl can stay.

I enjoyed those Eng. subbed Strongheart segments. Sure wish I understood more, but I was grateful for what was translated. I was laughing, even at the parts that weren't translated. Man, poor Siwon - It was like a Siwon roast. LOL at the "Self-praise" sign. Siwon took those shots at him like a man. They were coming at him from all angles, but he remained a good sport. You got to, otherwise I guess you would say no to that kind of show.

@Mel - Walking forwards yet? I mean, you don't have to walk sideways in your place anymore, hopefully!

@doraemon - Gotta be the hair and the age differences as to why the Suju guys look so different now, as Ace said. Oh, and working out, too, thanks to Siwon's influence.

Talking about hair, in Stronghearts, one of the guests there (the funny guy in all white) commented on Siwon's hair saying that even though his hairstyle generally is not an attractive one (being side-parted at an 80/20 ratio), it works for him. Hey, anything would work for him. He's Siwon, after all. (Sound familiar?)

@koreanpsyche - Good to hear from you! You and I sent our comments at the same time, apparently. I would love company on my trip. Great minds think alike, and I'm sure we'd have a blast! I'm envious of Ace, too, but she said she might swing another trip next year. I can see us now, converging at a Suju event, or stalking - er, did I say that? I meant touring - areas of Korea where we might come upon some filming, or whatever.

For now, our annual Korean festival this weekend at Waikiki will have to do. I will search for dukbokki (sp?) and that yummy (whadyacallit?) Korean shaved ice dessert. There is a tent where posters and paraphernalia of celebrities will be displayed, so you know what I will on the look out for. Maybe I'll even come across a life-sized cardboard cutout of a certain someone. Hmmm, I'll report later.

hello OML Angels... more fangurling on Si Won...

@kappy, yeah been walking straight but still have a lot of stuff and junk to get rid of. During the unpacking, I discovered my 1980 airplane ticket stub on my first trip back to the Philippines by way of Korean Airlines--Seoul stop over... Of course, I'm planning to visit Korea 'cuz of my Kdrama obsession. By the way, don't forget to share what you discover at the Waikiki Korean Festival.... and yes please study more... there's more materials now.. Have a great time on your trip. And Si Won was definitely getting roasted on Strong Hearts... Here's a link that has more Eng subs of that episode but it's mostly of SW, apparently the rest of the episode still not completely subbed but here it is.

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xdyh7h_sujuism-blogspot-com-706-sh-1_creation?start=1#from=embed

@koreanpsyche, enjoy 18 vs 29, one funny story, having SW in just the memory cuts was icing on the cake, I'm glad someone has those on YT... also enjoy your JA downloads, here's a YT site that has many of the film versions of her novels:

http://www.youtube.com/user/mansfieldparkmovie

@ace am and have been beyond green with envy about your trip, I wish you could upload every single step. This is like a definite "can I hide in one of your luggages?" Oh yeah on your getting lots of freebies at the Bonamana album launch--another green with envy situation. The music store I go to in Ktown-L A sells the posters(!!!) and you got them for free. All I got from my Bonamana album were pics of Eunhyuk and Ryeowook. But, it's okey enjoy SuJu, my spouse and children would really place me in an insane asylum if I started taping posters of Kpop celebrities on the wall--in addition to my current Kdrama obsession--addiction... So, I just have them on my iphone.... he, he, he... I always brag about SW being my cutiepie... (this old lady's losin her mind!!! yeah, almost there!!)... awright that's enough.

I wanted to say hello to menci--have you seen AAE yet?, Wendy, Amy, Sajor, epyc, luvthisdrama, sobia, Lumi..... and the rest we're still here, keeping up the Kdrama-kpop addiction...

...been rewatching OML, there are so many scenes that MW takes glances at KH and it's just big letters L O V E, with his growing attachments from ep 10 to ep 16. He yearns to speak and be with KH many times that he starts to spurn YR's attention. One of the scenes is Ep 11, MW is dismayed that KH has disappeared with SJ after getting rescued from the evil manager. The funny scene at the Show celebration with MW agreeing to have the drinking session continue at his home and KH's "are you crazy eye language" and MW's return apologetic "it's okey" silent communication. Also the ride from the Show office after reporter Han accosted KH, MW comes charging in to the rescue--I love the simple conversation between the two. First is KH's--the are you crazy (for coming to get me in front of all those reporters and fan?" and after the exchange KH and MW asks each other how their day fared--so sweet. For such a cute show, it's great to have these simple scenes (--and there were so many) be touching and become unforgettable.... Oh yeah, like many of you, I too would like a cardboard cut out of MW..

have a good day all Angels in the OMLHaven-hood

@Mel - I see you posted on the Playful Kiss casting. All I could post was simply "no!" at first but somebody commented on the ratings of OML and PT and I had to say something about that! I'm really disappointed. I know CSW didn't have a chance because of his schedule, but anyone other than he-who-was-chosen would be welcome. Agreed with JB that if there was a choice of switching roles, SW should take Playful Kiss instead of Athena (but on the other hand, I'm greedy, he should take both!) If any of you watched Attack on the Pin-Up Boys, Siwon played the haughty genius student body president very well. That sounds a lot like Naoki. Unless JB recaps the first episode and give me an idea, I won't be watching it voluntarily. I watched the Taiwanese version and it still makes me smile. The opening song "Say U Love Me" by Jason & Lara is the only non-Korean song playing on my iTunes. =)

@ Koreanpsyche - how have you been? I wish all of you could come with me. I'm not even sure if my former co-worker(s) will be able to go with me. But alone or not, I simply MUST! This has been planned for more than a year already. I just need a camera stand so I can take pictures of me by me! Like what kappy says, I might crash in on her trip next year if an opportunity presents itself. Wouldn't it be great if the OML-hood would have a reunion in Korea and tour (stalk?!) around some OML locations?

@ Kappy - I once watched in eitehr KBS World or Arirang or Discovery the Korean festival in Hawaii. It sound like a lot of fun! Just do a lot of food tasting and share it with us. I'm simply envious of the Korean food that you'll be eating there (I've been meaning to eat at a Korean restaurant here but my friends' schedules and mine are not meeting, and I can't very well eat there by myself, could I? Even if I'm almost tempted to do it lots of times). Oh yeah, find a lifesize cardboard cutout of our certain someone and take lots of pics!

Re: The Strongheart segments - winced a couple of times because Siwon was being roasted. But he was really a good sport (I guess because he's used to it?)
And while I was watching it, I thought I know why SW has few appearances in variety shows. He simply overshadows the others and becomes the center of attention even if he's just sitting there quietly (remember WinWin? I mean, Taecyeon & YongHwa were good, but SW really stood out).

@Mel again, when (not if!) we meet for SS3, I'll give you your choice of version A or B of the posters! Promise! (pinky link)

@ace... yes I posted on Playful Kiss--I really enjoyed the original Japanese drama, and sure yeah, Si Won's haughty demeanor would just be great-right on for that lead character...(as seen on his other roles in Attack of the Pin Up Boys, Legend of Hyang Dan as well as in some scenes in Oh! My Lady, oh yeah, let's not forget 18 vs 29 too!) But like you, I am greedy too, I want SW to be in Athena, Playful Kiss as well as Sungkyunkwan Scandal... But then I have a soft spot for KHJ because of We Got Married. Anyways, did you know SW was also casted for the Hello School Girl/Pure Comic movie but since he was working with SuJu M in China, Kang In got the role instead. Hmm, that's another role for a sort of May-December romance... I remember when Boys Over Flowers was underworks, Javabeans wanted SW casted there, just like me....

I agree about SW overshadowing the rest in variety shows, even the other Kcelebrities that were on Strong Heart agreed at his radiance.... As for our meeting on SS3, I will be there... The Staples Center SMTown World Tour will just show a small part of SuJu's songs, it is SS3 that I am looking forward to with you no doubt!!!

@Mel - thanks for the 18 vs. 29 clips! I'm still hyperventilating from the SW smiles. =) This was on my list of old kdramas to watch because of Park Sun Young who I loved in Sons of Sol Pharmacy. It just went up on the list because of the SW factor. Oh! I'll also give you my duplicate Siwon photocard (the one that came free inside the CD) courtesy of the 20 photocards I got as freebies.
Oh, was that Kangin in Hello Schoolgirl? Interesting. Cute movie! And was SW also considered for the Gu Jun Pyo role??? Archiving BOF articles...

@ace -- oh, you loved Sons of Sol Pharmacy, I loved that but my husband more so... that was one lovable kdrama... I've enjoyed Lee Pil Mo's goofy role in that and 'have watched him since Here Comes Ajumma. Sons of Sol.. was fun to watch. I loved the 4 sons and their versions of singing Kpop songs. And as for Park Sun Young, I liked her since her part as 2nd with lead girl to Chae Rim in Oh! Pil Seung and Bong Soon Young--my husband fell in love with Chae Rim in that kdrama.

And yes, for that second SW photocard, I would definitely accept it... I was hoping I'd get his photocard when I bought the 2 Bonamana cds. I don't mind the two I got, my kimchi sisters think my son looks like Ryeowook.. 'Am not sure if SW was considered for the Jung Pyo role in BFF/BOF but, I was hoping he'd be in that... definitely not the too brooding Rui/Ji Hoo... I don't know if he could contain his goofiness for that role, but as for now I'm too much of a SW fangurl to question what he can or can't do... He's like a God right now, no doubt about that.

We've got to add more to our archive. There's a ton of materials out there, we still haven't got to. And there are those exams we've got to make for the fans... giggle...giggle..

Okey, we really are just over the top on SW aren't we.. 'cant be helped people... I just hope he doesn't have some hidden--secret, like he's already married or has a 6 year old daughter or ... that would just be so devastating!!!.... but I'd forgive him. That's it!!! Gotta go make some dinner!!! Bye... all in the OMLHaven..

@ Mel - we really have the same tastes don't we? I'm still waiting for JB to finish the Sons of Sol recaps. She just stopped at ep 34 and I think that's the last I'll hear from her. I really loved the 4 sons and the Bokifer-Dae Pung love story. But what I loved the most was the father of the 4 sons! He was so hilariously funny and so cute & cuddly! I'm also watching re-runs of Her Comes Ajumma in KBS World. =)

Yeah, it was just JB's recommendation for CSW to be cast as Domyouji/GJP {see http://www.dramabeans.com/2008/02/boys-before-flowers-aka-the-korean-hana-yori-dango/}. Some other SuJu member names that came up from Netizens for the F4 roles were Heechul as Domyouji (because they didn't want Siwon to get those awful curls**; they wanted him as Rui instead), Kibum as Sojiro, and Kangin as Akira. Ah well, it was just not SW's time to shine yet then. Despite the enjoyable mess of the Korean version, Lee Min Ho was a jewel on that show.

**As kappy said, it's SW, so he'd look good with any hairstyle (but oh please not the one he had for Spring Waltz!)

Hello everyone. @Mel - thanks for the all the links. I greatly enjoyed the Strong Heart english subbed. I wish someone would sub "win win". I agree with u. Siwon has got this charismatic/radiant vibe every time his on any tv shows. He doesn't have to do or say anything. He always stands out from the rest of the members.... aside from being the tallest, he's a sharp dresser (just look at how gorgeous he look when they went to send off Kang-in) and polite. I always wondered about why he's always singing first on most of their songs. It's funny how Strong Heart asked the same question. Btw, I thought he lives with his parents so Donghae must be referring (Siwon's routine when waking up and all) to the time when Siwon was living with them in their dorm, right? Is that correct?

@Ace & @Kappy - if only I'm not booked to go to China in August, I would have gone with u to Korea. I think it'll be a blast if the OML-hood indeed have a reunion in Korea and tour (stalk?!) around some OML locations & SuJu events?

@Ace @kappy @luvthisdrama........ I envy you world travelers you, the closest I get is a trip in a week to Seattle (and Jaeboom formerly of 2pm isn't there for me to stalk.) I know the 3 members who split from DBSK are in town, I like them too but SuJu's it for me. So, again, I wish you could all film your trips and stalking and all. I would love to be on your trips. Am a pretty good camerawoman able to get many "kodak" moments and I don't mind not being in the picture. So Ace you wouldn't need a tripod if you were with me, unless it's an almost "peed in my pants" moment... and that would be a Si Won sighting, and Chae Rim as well ... I'd stalk her too. And so, this OMLHaven

luvthisdrama, maybe you'll see Hang Geng/Hang Kyung? He's got it made, with a solo cd to his name and even his own concert. Still love him though he's on his own. Are you planning to see the World Expo--that looks like a lot of fun...

During the last UFO SuJu fanmeet, there's talk about a future reunion of SuJu after Kang In gets back from his stint as a soldier... that's gonna be hard to do because the members will not be free for a long time. The members will be almost middle aged by the time all of them gets out of the service.

okey... good night all in the OMLHavenhood..

@Mel and @Ace - You are right about SW's presence. It's like what the Strongheart host said - he just sits there and you can feel his charisma. He just kind of steals the show without trying. i wonder if that bugs his fellow Suju members. If it does, they sure hide it well.

It's interesting what was said about Siwon singing first in most of Suju's numbers. Siwon told the truth - that staff and members said songs are received better if he sings first - but got teased for it. Of course it's going to come across as boasting. Eunhyuk shared that Siwon looks his best when he's not sweating, so he goes first. The next bit just cracked me up about it being the opposite situation when Shindong sings, 'cause he's petered out by the time he sings and so it tends to sound breathy. Shindong shared that in Sorry, Sorry he sings "dan dan dan.." and in Miinah it's just a different "dan dan dan..." I thought that was so hilarious, I was in tears!

@luvthisdrama - How long will you be in China? I hope you get to see Hang Geng. He seems like such a sweetie. I like his voice, and I think he's a great dancer.

And it really would be a blast for us to unite in Korea somehow. Don't give up on the possibility, OML haveneers!

@Mel - Thanks for reminding me of those scenes. I will be re-watching them very soon (like in a few minutes). Always nice to hear and talk about them. And thanks for the 18 vs. 29 links. SW is adorable in them, but I think the girl could be prettier. Wait - if she were prettier, I'd be saying she should be uglier. Never mind.

@ace - Thanks for the link to JB's recommendation of Siwon for the part of Doumyouji/GJP. I have watched BoF, Hana Yori Dango, and Meteor Garden, and I very much can see him playing the part. I haven't seen the Japanese version of Playful Kiss, but I can see your greediness in wanting him to do this and Athena as well. The chosen-frozen lead is lacking sufficient acting chops, but I hope he proves all wrong.

And btw, what was said about OML and PT ratings? I didn't catch it.

They showed our Korean Festival on a TV show there? Wow, didn't think it would make the news, but I guess it is a big event. I will be sure to go on an empty stomach and eat for you all. What are your requests? Kalbi? Meat jun? Bi bim bap? I will for sure have kim chee but will make sure not to breathe on anyone.

'Til next time...

Hey,

Did you notice how many comments there are about KHJ getting Playful Kiss? They are rivaling us with 399 so far and rising, and in record time. That subject really created a huff. They (comments) are, of course, as a result, of a different nature than ours which are quite the opposite, being of adoration rather than of shock, disbelief, and protest.

I was watching episode 13 yesterday and was reminded of Manager Jang's boss referred to as "the chairman." You'd hear about this guy on and off in the series through the manager. Does he sound like, say, the boss of the entertainment agency or do you get a gangster vibe about him? We have a good idea what the manager is capable of, and he has even spent time in prison. That's probably why I'm getting that vibe of the big boss. He seemed harmless enough, however, for MW to cut off ties with them when he was ready to.

@kappy, yes the manager-"fishlips" had been to prison, I remember that. In episode 12 you could see how violent he got at MW's apartment after the scandal with KH broke out. He threw what ever it was near MW and luckily MW was cool in handling that. But in ep 14 the manager was so upset with YR when she lost YE in the department store. Yes, I agree that he seemed harmless enough in the end to let MW go without any threats. The manager probably knew if he'd mess with MW, there was KH to deal with !!! KH was afraid of the manager but wouldn't let herself get bullied. KH always stood her ground in dealing with "fishlips," even if it meant life or death--like in the kidnapping... KH's lucky, she's got her two guardian angels, MW and SJ.

I was rewatching bits and pieces of OML, MW always gave devoted looks to KH in many scenes. One was in the car after KH sprayed all the reporters with water upon finding that false article from YE's supposed "mother." And then at KH's home, she herself was touched at MJ's appreciation of MW's being a good father to YE at the dinner table. KH is so touched-proud at what MW has accomplished during the end of the play. In ep 15, MW is at a restaurant feeding the children, I love how KH's adoringly looks at MW when he says he'll be a good father to YE. Of course, there's that touching pinky swear between MJ and MW on MW's promise not to break KH's heart when he marries her.

I never seemed to dislike SJ. He was a coldfish, but he was always warm to KH except when she needed to be shaken. The romance didn't really get started 'til almost the end that we questioned who KH was or wasn't going to be with. I even
harbored thoughts that SJ and KH would have been great together. Of course, after several years jump and a divorce that are quite common in Kdramas. But, I just love the ending, MW mustered the troops to help in wooing KH. YEY!!!

As for Si Won getting roasted, that seems common, even maknae Kyu Hyun is now making fun of him a lot. This is probably how the other SuJu members, get back at SW for all the applause and adulation. Wasn't he cute in 18 vs 29, even though his scenes were just small bits. Have you guys seen him in Legend of Hyang Dan... It's on YT, I don't want to give the account because the original upload disappeared. There's only one account with Eng subs. While other videos of them are so many--you can pick which ever one to watch. So just search for it. SW was quite adorable there too. And so their "No Other" is doing well.... KBS win:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NrnbuEu8ixo&feature=player_embedded

As for KHJ's being the lead on Playful Kiss--- O U C H !!!! Yes, the netizens can be cruel, a lot turned on Javabeans too.... There were many supporters, like myself, who stated to give him a chance. KHJ is quite popular, he's got a huge legion of fans. He may redeem himself with this upcoming drama. He's got BYJ--Bae Yong Jun-- as his new boss as well as many other well known Hallyu stars. They may give KHJ tips on his acting, right? I mean, he won the popularity award over Lee Min Ho during the BBF/BOF heyday. With this being such a big deal, I bet even the haters/antis will watch just to keep on hating him.. And now that Girlfriday is going to recap it, well, there's no doubt it's going to be popular whether it's bad or good. and... It's okey if the number of their posts go beyond ours--currently... after all the heat, their posts can't catch up to ours nor the devotion, love and support for OML as well as our Chae Rim, Choi Si Won, Ye Eun and Min Ji, SJ...as well as the rest....

Oh Yeah, there were posts about how some of the dramas had low ratings upon initial offering but were quite popular on the net.... just like our OML. And also there were discussions about dramas with great writing, scripts, directors, and actors that did poorly in the ratings... We never know what becomes a hit or miss. I kept wishing and hoping that there was a way to gauge the popularity of the dramas through the internet popularity--hits, instead of just live viewing through the TV. I mean, OML would have been up there!!! I remember being so hungry for the new OML episodes, updates or anything OML related, probably like many, and refreshing the keys just to keep checking if the latest episode was somewhere on the net. Even RAW--without any knowledge of Hangul... I'm finding myself doing that now, I used to never watch the raw videos, I was patient then, awaiting for the Eng subs, but now, noooo!!! I go everywhere, even the the sites that used to annoy me... So goes the obsession, addiction.....NO CURE IN SIGHT!!! Maybe we should bring this up to Oprah, do you think she could get someone to find a cure or will she join us???? ... and get legions more of fans to become Kdrama addicts and become SuJu fangurls???!!!

Have a great weekend all Angels in the OMLHood....

@ Kappy - Meteor Garden was the only version of HYD that I didn't watch. My brothers loved that show but it just annoyed me so much. If Gu Hye Sun was annoying as Jan Di, then the actress who played it in MG was ten times more annoying for me. Or maybe she's just crying every time I see her which turned me off the whole show.

It was nearly 400 comments just in 24 hours for the Playful Kiss post, right? I admit to contributing a few. =) I don't have anything personal against KHJ. 70% of the time in BOF he was okay, but during the times when it counted, he just didn't deliver (the emotional parts). Actually, the main point was not really or mostly KHJ's acting skill (or lack thereof) but the fact that he was chosen when there were so many more qualified idol-turned-actors to choose from. You know how when there's a promotion in the office and you're expecting the most qualified to be chosen but it turned out they chose the most popular instead? Wouldn't that make people angry? No offense against the popular guy, I'm sure a lot of people like him personally, but if it's an important responsibility or duty, shouldn't it have gone to the most qualified? Oh well, at least Girlfriday's recapping it. Let's see how it will go.

Someone commented that with actors like CSW in OML and LMH in PT, even with their acting skills, why didn't the shows get a higher rating? I replied to that and added JGS in YB as an example that despite the low ratings in Korea, outside Korea those shows are big and have loyal followers. And ratings are not really a good basis of a good show, right? Someone cited Twilight as an example of something that's not really good quality-wise but got popular despite it.

Siwon sweating or not looks good. I actually liked the 7/02 performance of No Other because he was sweating a lot compared to the other members. He seems much more human. ; ) I don't think the other SJ members resent Siwon's screen presence, but they sure do enjoy teasing him a lot, specially Donghae. The Legend of Hyang Dan is available on mysoju.com or Dailymotion:

Raw videos are almost always available on dramastyle.com. I used to go there to watch unsubbed OML, PT, CH episodes.

@Mel - Huh? Links erased by the powers that be? From where? Your sources? And which ones? I'm curious. I enjoy all the stuff you and Ace and lumi and luvthisdrama and everyone else provides.

@Ace - It's so funny, but I liked Siwon sweating in the 7/02 (and at least another) No Other performance, too! That may seem weird to some, but I guess it's because he did seem more human, as you said.

Missed Siwon singing at the beginning of No Other on the 7/09 Music Bank performance. So, as a result, I didn't receive that version well. (Just kidding - see my comment #430.)

And Gu Hye Sun bugged you as Jan Di also? I dunno, I just didn't feel much chemistry between the couple. Lee Min Ho did a good job, I feel, but there was too much stiffness and, at times, goofiness from GHS. However, I did like Meteor Garden on the whole better, even though the budget definitely seemed bigger for the Korean version. Hana Yori Dango had a better, more well-rounded feel to me and won out in more areas than the other versions - to me, at least. I had read Jang Geun Suk was offered the part of Gu Jun Pyo, but really wanted KHJ's part. I wonder how different these dramas would be if the original picks ended up doing them.

Anyway, back to OML -

Mel, you mentioned the looks of adoration from both main parties? Loved watching those, too. Those scenes win out over the kissy-wissy, overly lovey-dovey scenes often in American dramas.

More favorite bits -

Zoo scene, when KH tells YE to thank MW for the fun day. MW says, "No need to thank me" and does this cute lower lip tuck thing. Ye Eun offers her lollipop to MW who at first says, "How dirty!" I like the arm/hand gestures of KH in admonishing MW to accept YE's offering. Then, YE doesn't want her lollipop back after MW has slobbered all over it, and both KH and MW both get a kick out that.

I really like how tough MW can be when needed (here he comes to save the day!), especially to protect his woman (who, maybe at the time, he didn't realize was his woman yet). But at these times, he is gentle to Kae Hwa. I mean, the contrast is beautiful. We've pretty much covered those scenes in previous discussions, but I feel they deserve another mention.

Hi, there guys!
I've been out for too long, I 'feel like a total stranger (LOL)! See, I am totally lost! I barely have enough time to read all the comments, and no time at all to watch your video links. I will get back to them when I find the time.

@MEL, I already have downloaded Mansfield Park, but thanks a lot for your thoughtfulness. @your 432 comment, yeah, I too am guilty of searching the whole wide web for raw feeds during the OML run.

@ACE, we will be waiting for your vacation updates and uploads. GO GIRL!

Can anyone tell me what "STRONG HEARTS" is? Is it a drama? a reality show? (Sorry guys, I just don't have the time to "äbsorb" all info.)

@everyone : Can you imagine what a riot it would be if we all could be together at the same place and at the same time?

@ Koreanpsyche - Welcome back! Strong Heart is a talk show on SBS (Kang Shim Jang is the Korean title) hosted by Kang Ho Dong and Lee Seung Ki featuring 23 or 24 guests.

Oh, I'm sure it will be a riot if we all get together! Hope it happens someday!

Anyone read the latest Open Thread? There's some fantasizing about a bare-chested Siwon there that would really crack you up!

I was a bit slow and didn't get to watch the Strongheart segment before YT removed it :(

@Kappy, I share the same sentiments as you. Though the No Other MV is cute, but I kind of missed Siwon and Kyuhyun in the dancing part (frankly "Siwon and the girl" is a bit off with the rest of the MV); I also don't like the 7/09 Music Bank performance (so little of Siwon). My 2 favourites are still the 7/02 and 7/04 live performance and they are the Top Most Played in my Ipod :} Oh, count me in the like-Siwon-sweating-in-7/02 live performance of No Other !

I better continue watching the video clips before they are being removed ........

Take care, all the angels in OML hood !

Okay, I just read some of the latest Open Thread, and there is a lot of lusting over Choi Siwon. It is a crack up, like Ace said. Our fangurling is nothing compared to theirs, let me assure you! And to think I was holding back on saying I also liked Siwon sweating because I thought it was sexy... heh!

hello every OML Angel, we're almost at 450... in time we'll be beyond 500... So nice to see the common thread that binds us all... and how that common thread has spread other common likes, and discovery of new likes---SuJu and Jane Austen, and other Kdramas and traveling. YES, YES, YES... we have to plan on a get together somehwere neutral, inexpensive, are there like group flights that consist of Kdrama addicts umm fanatics (?) -- we definitely would be a riot. We're still old fashioned, love the slow generation of love yet drool over the choco abs and sweating young bods!!! These, DOL--dirty ol ladies!!! Or is it DOW--dirty old women, not literally old but older than SuJu or are we all older than them? It's so hard to restrain the written word--it's funny, I haven't written so much since high school and college. There's word check here but I still find myself checking the Merriam Webster Collegiate Dictionary and a concise thesaurus. I searched for those two books and there are in my reach right next to the PC whenever I become unsure of my spelling. ... Again, communicating without restraints. It's probably because our identities are hidden and who cares who reads anyway.!!!! Just join in the fun!!! UMMM, is there a "dirty" police out there, that watches what's written here??? We're just having our bits-lots of fun here...

Hey Ace, you've written @33 about watching dramas raw, you mentioned CH--is that Coffee House--I'm loving that and episode 12--I cried during the farewell scene between EY and JS.... I had a few words to say regarding that relationship too. I do recommend that drama, though my devotion is still with OML!!! I'm still recommending My Country Calls, Lee Soo Kyung and Ryu Jin are a laugh riot.. Ryu Jin steals so many scenes--he's so underrated!!!

Kappy, yes, like you I just love those unspoken looks of devotion that KH and MW exchanged. Unknowingly even in the first third of the drama, I do remember when KH first got a good look at MW, there were signs of admiration. But we know she had to hold herself back and we understand why during her refusal of proposal argument in Ep 16...

I just watched a few eps of BBF/BOF--yeah, I wasn't really into GHY as Geum Jan Di... Though I don't know who would have done that better--probably many others. My Kimchi sisters preferred Kim So Eun (Jan Di's best friend)-- to play Jan Di... There were lots of stiff--ooppps moments but, I was part of the crazy bunch who ate it all up... But my thing is that when I get interested, it doesn't matter who plays, there may be some cringing moments but I still enjoy many dramas. The ratings doesn't matter, it's what my heart is drawn to... The brain tends to become blank when I enjoy something.

Ohhh, so sad about the many links for SuJu that go kaput because the broadcasting companies demand it's copyright infringement. Gees, if every single broadcasting co did that, we wouldn't be able to share in the discovery and wonder of Kdramas or Kpop... What, no SuJu... no Si Won nor Chae Rim... What a dull world, no Javabeans deconstructing the Kdrama addiction. I'm glad Arirang is definitely out there in promoting the Korean world--culture.. KBS is also sharing bits of their programming... It's kind of like a new person presenting their presence but is stuck up. We're so interested yet that person does not want to share. I am glad there are illegal uploaders out there, how would we discover all the wonderful events, individuals, groups... Kdramas.. that I've gotten myself so addicted to...

I remember one of the entries in JB's addiction stories regarding the burning bootleg DVDs with her brother before their return to the U S, am sooo guilty of that, but all I did was remove all the covers more than 60--it's so cheap but the English sub (SIGH--big old SIGH). No burning, just placed them in those used round CD containers and got through customs easily. Yes, I was warned by everyone, but nobody could prevent me from taking all those DVDs with me. I risked imprisonment and huge fines, I just had to have them... The covers were spread through different family members who did me the favor of taking those covers when they returned to the U S. Those wonderful famiy members brought those covers to me without customs detection... Heck yeah, I'd do anything to satisfy my Kdrama addiction!!!

I've done the calling to work sick just to finish watching whole dramas. During the height of my addition, nobody could pull me off the PC, the TV, portable DVD player... I had to finish my Kdramas. Lots of marathon weekends that my husband joined me and was as eager for the next episode to start and finish through the weekend. I do not allow those navigators, it's hard for me to get lost.. One time, my husband who can get lost in his own neighborhood was driving with me--I was watching Summer Scent on my portable player and navigating.. Our mission was to drive our kids and their classmates to a statewide hip hop competition in Irvine. I have never gotten us so lost, we kept turning and turning, repeating the drive that my husband almost threw my portable DVD player out the window--heaven forbid--grounds for D? Oh no!! not my beloved DVD my lifeline to my Kdramas!!... but I still laugh, luckily we got there in time and the kids actually won!!! My huge eyebags??--I blame on Full House, Coffee Prince and ohhh that precious child in Wonderful Life !!!!

Okey, Legend of Hyang Dan as well as OML in is my ipod and iphone. I can go anywhere and not have the itch to hurry up and get back home... Yes, my family and friends have learned to accept and join me in my addiction... Now if they find out that it's for young hotties like SuJu... They'll join my kids in sending me to the insane asylum....

Okey... Have a nice weekend everybody--every Angel in the OMLHaven-hood!!!

Hello everyone! I'll be touring China for 10 days. My sister and niece are coming with me. I don't think we'll have time to go to World Expo. @Kappy - The "chosen-frozen lead" lol .... my pc monitor just got a good shower... LOL ... the water I was drinking ran to my nose when I read that part. I think we all agree that he's a flower boy & can sing/dance but just doesn't have the talent for acting (at least not just yet). I only managed to watched a few episodes of BOF. I mostly got annoyed with the lead actress and thought the other 3 guys (not Lee Min Ho) were lacking in terms of their acting. They didn't connect with me. I preferred Hana Yori Dango. I haven't watched It Started with a Kiss so I'm not sure about the story or the lead actor in Taiwanese or Japanese versions. Hopefully the "wooden" one has taken more acting lessons/workshops after his acting debut to develop his skills since he seems to want to pursue acting. Maybe he'll surprise the viewers...(wishful thinking on my part).

Did any of you notice Siwon's facial expression (& rolling his eyes) at the beginning when he was getting roasted at Strong Heart. It reminded me of one of his many facial expressions in OML. The one I like most is from a scene in ep11 - KH was getting drinks in the refrigerator and Shijoon was telling MW to make sure the incident with KH & his manager doesn't happen again & that something like that should never happen to a woman. I never in my mind would have thought a facial expression like that would be totally cute & adorable. Oh My/Our Siwon/MW can really pull off just about anything and look good with it, even the guy at Strong Heart said he doesn't like 80/20 hairstyle but Siwon looks good with it.

I found this youtube subbed of Win Win with Siwon. Enjoy!

@44 Mel, love your comments about us. Didn't know we are DOL / DOW ??!! Yah, agree with the part on comments without restraints. If my friends or co-workers ever know about my addictions to OML / Choi Siwon, they will freak out and send me to the insane asylum to join you too. My "kimchi sister" (sorry sorry, allow me to borrow this name for once, really love the name) has been urging me to move on, forget about Siwon, "go for men, don't go after boys" she said. Ha ha .......

Good news ! OML DVDs will be avaialble at our video stores soon ! Normally we have to wait about 6 months, but this time round the distributor acts fast, probably to capitalise on Siwon and Suju's popularity. I'll be able to watch OML on big TV screen soon ! Hmm.....I need to take leave.

To all OML angels (aka DOL now), thanks for all the links to the video clips and the continuing posts; really hope we can exceed 500 !!!

I'm going to continue with my "homework" ........

Greetings to all in the OML hood -

Do you ever get this way? "Hmmm, where shall I start? So much to say!" Or was that a silly question? I'm hearing resounding yesses. Even my silly question was a silly question. Or are there no such things as silly questions here? Anyway....

@Mel - Wow, you really risked doing jail time for Kdramas? You do got it bad! That is true dedication. That's why we are called the OML "hood", I guess! I think, though, that we here would probably do the same. You are lucky to have a family that is so supporting of you in your interests. It's an uphill battle, otherwise. Mine is not quite like yours, but they don't fight me on it, so that's good.

I have to admit that I shrink at being called a DOL/DOW, though I know it's in good fun and that we have our limits and all that. I know, I know...loosen up, kappy! Here I go loosening up....Siwon sweating in a performance is sexy. There! I said it again!

That is a bummer about the yanked YT videos. You're right about if it was taken to the extreme and all possible copyright infringement videos were yanked. A lot less would know about and therefore not come to love or want to watch these groups, and that can equate to a lot of money lost. Free publicity, guys! Let it happen so the fan base can expand while your pockets do.

It seems some videos are still "safe", like the ones in @433 Ace's comment. I understand now why the reminder about not uploading to YT is plastered over them.

@luvthisdrama - So you pulled a Kae Hwa and sprayed your monitor? Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, neke neke neke neke paggyeo paggyeo paggyeo... (Shindong's cue coming up...dandandandandan...)

Here is my report on the Korean Festival -

It was a little disappointing. Last year's was better because there were more booths and the celebrity paraphernalia and media tent was not reduced to a 10' by 10'. Didn't have dukbokki because I wasn't in the mood, but what I was in the mood for - bean sauce noodles and that refreshing shaved ice with fruit and red bean dessert - was nowhere to be found. Yes, I went "huh?" too. I did have spicy garlic chicken and steak, which was yummy. Not very Korean, but yummy. Oh, and a tad of kim chee.

I ran into a friend of mine who was pulling a bag on wheels. She said, "Hi! I just spent $500 on stuff here!" Wow, howja do that? DVD box sets for herself and friends (plus natural cosmetics). Now this lady is one serious Kdrama fan. I asked if she watched and liked OML. She loved it, of course. She alerted me to the sign by the 10' by 10' media/cosmetic tent which read (and I saw it later), "Pre-order DVDs for Jungjyoon...(sorry, heard of it before but don't know correct spelling) and Oh! My Lady. HaHA! They weren't able to tell me just when to expect it, but did say it was $89.99. My buying it through them then wouldn't change the price, so I'll just wait (impatiently) until I receive more word. Thanks, doraemon, for that confirmation also, on OML DVD coming out soon.

Oh, and I asked the young girl at that tent if they had the Suju 4th album, and she asked me in return, "Oh, the repackaged one?" Yes, she knows! Unfortunately, they didn't have it there, but another festival worker said she gets her stuff through Yesasia with no problems and no shipping/handling fee in a few weeks. Hmmm, sounds good, except for the "few weeks" part. Dunno if I can wait that long for either the album or OML DVD set...

@ Mel - yup, CH for Coffee House. Sometimes, viikii is slow so I go and watched unsubbed at dramastyle.

@ luvthisdrama - enjoy your China trip!

@ doraemon & kappy - thanks for the heads up on the OML DVD...still waiting for the repackage version too of Bonamana.

@ kappy - sorry about your disappointment @ the KoreanFestival...but I still would have gone with you if I was there!

Random thoughts:
- DOL/DOW? Uhm....n/a to me?! I'm a little older than SJ, so Noona instead??
- Caught this week's No Other performances: 7/10 - Heechul so cute with the pink ribbon on his hair! 7/11 - Pink coats! But still so manly & sexy! Realized that they shortened this week's performances and removed the song's first stanza (Siwon & Yesung's parts)
- Didn't win the portrait of SW for the Finding Miina contest: an unattractive big-boned gay guy won...waah! On second thought, better him than some unattractive girl... ; )
- Thinking of getting both repackage Don't Don and Sorry, Sorry albums. Been watching SJ Premium Live in Japan DVD everyday and is currently addicted to "A Man In Love", "Marry U", "Mirror" and all songs in the Don't Don album.
- I caught my mom humming "Ddanddan ddanddada dda ddaranddan..." She told me she liked Sorry, Sorry's beat! Told her the story of how I recently became a fan of SuJu (has it just been 2 months?) She's looking forward to watching OML when I get the DVD...
- Love the new Pop Culture series by GF & JB! Piggyback rides! I go "aaaw!" every time the lead does that! (Imagining OML with a piggyback ride...hmm...nah! OML worked as it was. Only Ye-eun got a piggyback from Kae-hwa when KH was singing her to sleep & Ye-eun also managed to get herself carried on Min-woo's shoulders at the zoo.) The only American movie I remember that had a piggyback ride between the leads was when Danielle (Drew Barrymore) carried Prince Henry (Dougray Scott) in Ever After. =)
