Coffee House: Page 8

A picture says a thousand words, doesn’t it?

I could tell from the way the Episode 7 recap went that the fan fervor would increase for this episode, which surely delivered. Aside from the laughs and the chemistry between the actors, one thing I’m really loving about this drama is the loaded conversations — there are a few really interesting passages of dialogue that play a lot with text/subtext and nuance, which I always enjoy.

PAGE 8 RECAP

Later that morning, Eun-young wakes up and thinks back to the dawn hours, when she had woken up to see Jin-soo deep in thought by the window. All he had said was for her to go back to sleep, but she had sensed the change in his attitude — serious, pensive — and comes out of the room wondering how Jin-soo will act now, in the light of day.

But he acts totally normal, chatting easily like nothing happened, and Eun-young looks disappointed. Like she’s bummed out at herself for expecting anything more.

When she heads to the bathroom, Jin-soo makes it a point to wait until she’s out of earshot to turn on some music. Whether he’s setting the mood or not, it’s a conscious move that tells us he’s aware of the change that Eun-young sensed, and that he’s purposely putting on his nonchalant front. As for Eun-young, she sighs to herself for bothering to come here to check on him.

Over breakfast, Jin-soo chuckles at his memory of last night’s movie outing and prods Eun-young to guess who Dong-wook likes. She guesses everyone else first (the cafe employees, her employee Hyun-joo) before landing on Seung-yeon, and marvels at the unexpected pairing. He jokes that if he’d interfered the date a little more, he probably would have been killed.

Having revised her opinion of the secretary, Eun-young gives her due credit — although she doesn’t seem to be especially sharp, she’s determined. With more development, Seung-yeon could become quite useful the more he continues to use her. But Jin-soo says that he can’t do that, because “I’m going to leave.”

This brings a serious note to the conversation as he says that he’s worked hard and written diligently for the past two years, so he wants to disappear for the next two. He feels he’s been here too long and wants to get away; they can always re-sign their contract at a later date. Eun-young’s sharp, and asks if that’s why he has thrown himself into his writing now — to finish quickly and get out of here. Jin-soo teases that yup, he wants to go far away to escape her nagging, but she doesn’t find it funny; he assures her it was a joke, but she corrects him — it’s the truth disguised as a joke.

Jin-soo promises he’ll stick around until the manuscript is done, and even agrees to do the TV interview, just this once. However, Eun-young sees that he’s keeping his gaze away from her, and she prods him to look at her.

Eun-young asks, “Did I dream last night? You’re the same person, but how can the look in your eyes be so different?” He knows exactly what she means but he throws humor up as a shield and makes exaggerated faces to keep the tone light.

Sigh! There he goes, pulling a Troy from Reality Bites. I hear Eun-young’s frustration with this, having known a few of those boys in my day. He’s using flippant jokes as a defense mechanism, and it’s clear that he’s desperately trying to avoid any sort of genuine emotion to protect himself, and Eun-young is the only one who sees that and can call him on it. But even though she understands, she’s disappointed at his response. Like he thinks it’s just not worth the trouble to be honest.

That feeling grows during their drive in to work, and she gets sick of his glib veneer. She calls him hopeless, but not in an endearing way — it’s in an “I’m so upset that you’re actually beyond hope” sort of way. Pulling over to the side of the road, she tells him to get out of the car, frustrated with herself as much as with him for thinking that things might be different this time.

Jin-soo starts the long walk to the office, where Seung-yeon waits at the door. He gives her a key with the excuse that it’s inconvenient for him to always open the door for her, but she appreciates the gesture.

Jin-soo asks Seung-yeon how “ice cream” went last night, said in a knowing tone since he’s really asking about her date. She doesn’t get it, of course, and says he should have come along, to which he laughs, “I can’t risk my life over ice cream.” He muses to himself about her curious appeal — he could kind of let Do-sang slide, but now Dong-wook as well? She looks at him questioningly, not quite able to hear and not understanding what he means anyway.

While checking some camera footage, Jin-soo finds something odd and instructs Seung-yeon to take a look, then leans over her shoulder to peer at the screen. The sudden proximity sends her nerves all a-jitter and she hunches away from him nervously. When he again leans close while she’s making his coffee, she lurches and exclaims wildly that he should stay at a distance, and complains how he’s always hovering.

This is all to cover up her uncomfortable budding attraction, but Jin-soo misinterprets her snappishness for rebellion. Offended that his employee is now putting on airs and daring to talk back to him, he gets mad right back and scolds her for taking advantage of his lax attitude. Lol.

In the safety of the bathroom, Seung-yeon scolds herself for suddenly losing control of her hormones, reminding herself that this is her workplace.

Ji-won drops by the cafe hoping that Disapproving Grandpa has gone by now. However, the employee informs him that Grandpa is sitting right outside, then calls out to get the old man’s attention. Ji-won reacts hilariously, saying furtively, “Don’t call him!” and ducking out of sight. But the employee then moves aside and points down at him, telling Grandpa, “Ji-won hyung is here.” Hehe. Ji-won forces a nervous laugh, bows respectfully, then turns to leave. (And almost runs into Jin-soo on his Segway. He’d like to give him a piece of his mind, but he’s too eager to get away from the dreaded Gramps.)

Grandpa recognizes Jin-soo and requests a chat with him. He dislikes Ji-won’s constant lurking around his granddaughter and asks Jin-soo to do something about it to get him away from her. It’ll be a temporary fix, because Grandpa figures that the ultimate solution is to marry her off — perhaps he should start sending Eun-young on blind dates. Mention of this dims Jin-soo’s smile a bit.

Eun-young joins them in the cafe, where Grandpa asks if she met that guy she was supposed to be set up with. She sends a quick look Jin-soo’s way before smiling it off.

When Jin-soo comes back to the office, Seung-yeon hands him the phone, awkwardly holding the receiver as far from her body as possible to keep Jin-soo at a distance. The call is from Eun-young, and he asks if she’s going on blind dates now, telling her that they don’t suit her. She jokes that he probably thinks she’s more suited to being a forever-single cat lady.

Eun-young is calling to give him her answer to his breakfast proposal regarding his future plans. She recognizes that he’ll leave no matter what she says, and from a business standpoint he’s too valuable for her to just cut ties. She adopts a philosophical tone — it’s not ideal for him to go off for months or years, but he’s bound to pop back up bearing a new book. As far as hypothetical situations go, it’s neither the best- nor worst-case scenario.

This is her way of saying she’ll accept his decision as his publisher. Jin-soo asks for her opinion from a different perspective — meaning, not as his publisher but as a person. She says matter-of-factly, “I told you earlier, the person Lee Jin-soo is a lost cause.” And hangs up.

Spurred by Grandpa’s request (and maybe some of his own personal motivations), Jin-soo gives Seung-yeon an assignment — to write her very first synopsis for a story. Her task is to work out possible ways to get rid of Ji-won from Eun-young’s life for good.

Seung-yeon is taken by surprise, since writing scenarios is hardly something she’s good at, but Jin-soo insists that he’s giving her the opportunity to develop her skills. Even Seung-yeon is smart enough to know that that’s a crock of bull, and retorts that the only reason he’s telling her to do it is because he doesn’t know the answer himself.

He gives her an hour, after which she comes up with the idea to set Ji-won up with a new love interest. But she hasn’t thought out the particulars, and Jin-soo ruthlessly pokes holes into her idea — who? Where would they find her? What would she be like? How would they find someone even more impressive than Eun-young herself?

As he points out each flaw, Seung-yeon’s half of the split screen starts slowly shrinking, to match her falling spirits. Jin-soo sends her back for another pass, and this time she takes more care, interviewing Hyun-joo to ask about Ji-won’s past relationships. Eventually she ditches that idea and tries out a couple new theories.

The first involves a fortune-teller she knows, who can be persuaded to read Eun-young and Ji-won’s couple fortunes and declare them a disastrous match. This is such an obvious line of thinking that Jin-soo declares it completely lame. As he again criticizes her lack of imagination, her split-screen box starts shrinking again. Aw.

She retorts that HE ought to give it a try, to which he replies that this is HER homework — he’s purposely not giving her the answer just so she can practice. Seung-yeon calls him out for the lame excuse, pointing out that he’s foisting this off on her because he doesn’t have a better solution, and this time his box starts to shrink. Haha! (I love the shrinking screen motif, because it’s so simple and yet says so much.)

Her last idea is to get someone to act as Eun-young’s new boyfriend. Jin-soo starts to ask about the particulars, ready to shoot them down: What would it entail? Who would be the boyfriend? By now she’s lost confidence in all her ideas and blurts that he should be the one to play the boyfriend.

She points out that it would be believable, and if Ji-won saw it with his own eyes, he’d have to accept it. Jin-soo asks what would serve as “proof” of the romance, and she mumbles, “Stuff that dating people do.” He asks if this would require “a bed scene,” to which she nervously says no.

Jin-soo sends her back for more thinking, and Seung-yeon brainstorms various scenarios, like getting them drunk and “proving the romance” with a grand public display of affection.

Eun-young sees her name scribbled all over Seung-yeon’s notebook and peers over curiously. Seung-yeon tries to cover it up and explain that this is just an exercise — absolutely imaginary, with no intention of real-life implementation! — while Eun-young ponders why Jin-soo would make her the subject of study.

Reading over the list, Eun-young muses that No. 1 (setting Ji-won up with a new woman) is something she’d have done ages ago if it were possible. On to No. 2 — but that won’t be convincing because their parents already had them go to a fortune-teller when they were engaged, and the forecast was positive.

Now for No. 3 — having Jin-soo pose as her boyfriend. Seung-yeon hurriedly explains that it was just a stupid idea, but Eun-young looks at her with interested eyes: “Now this, I like,” she declares. It has a high possibility of working — how can they work with this?

Eun-young dives into the scenario, thinking of a way to engineer a scenario that is so natural that Ji-won would fall for it. Uneasily, Seung-yeon is forced to sit with her as Eun-young lays out the details: Ji-won has a habit of looking in on her office from his window, so they’ll set this scene in her office. She also figures that a kiss scene is necessary — using a kiss that is convincing even from a distance.

Even more unsettling to Seung-yeon is Eun-young’s decision to keep it secret from Jin-soo, because he wouldn’t cooperate if he knew. Eun-young makes her pinky-swear to it, then praises her for her idea. Afterward, Seung-yeon looks at her promise-pinky in dismay, as though thinking, “Oh, what have I gotten myself into?”

That evening, Seung-yeon waits nervously for the hour of doom, aka 8pm, when Eun-young will put her plan into motion. Jin-soo gets the call requesting his presence in her office, and Seung-yeon bites her tongue anxiously, wanting to warn him but afraid to ruin the plan. (I can see her hesitation, because this is another exercise in loyalty. In an earlier episode, she had decided to stick with Jin-soo no matter what, but the last time they did that we sorta came to the conclusion that Jin-soo’s escape from the interview was childish and caused more damage than it solved.)

Good thing for her she realizes that this time she doesn’t have to go either to Eun-young or Jin-soo, because there’s a Door No. 3. She races next door to Ji-won’s office, intending to stop him from seeing anything.

Eun-young greets Jin-soo with a suspiciously bright smile and a glass of wine. He immediately knows that something is up, although he can’t pinpoint what she’s planning. At first she enjoys leaving him in the dark while she toys with his hair and touches his face, before she tells him through clenched teeth that Ji-won’s watching.

She also calls him out for dismissing Seung-yeon’s idea, because she thinks it’s a great plan — it’s the most realistic and has the highest probability for success. He was just letting his personal distaste for playing the boyfriend color his opinion of the idea itself.

Seung-yeon races into Ji-won’s office, ready to distract him from the scene at the window, but as it happens she’s too late. He is already looking over in shock while Eun-young moves even closer and starts to slowly unbutton Jin-soo’s shirt.

While keeping up the appearance of being locked in a romantic moment, Eun-young tells Jin-soo that she worked out this scenario with Seung-yeon, and they planned out the script for the evening. He asks nervously how far she’s going to go — “You want to keep going? How far?”

All this time, Jin-soo has been a little nervous and uncertain, but at her confirmation that there will be a kiss scene involved, his mouth quirks up in a self-assured smile and he challenges her to show him what she’s got. Eun-young moves in, pushes him back onto her desk, and leans over him.

I love the spectators’ response to this — they both recoil in shock, and Ji-won finally notices that Seung-yeon is in his office. He asks what she’s doing here, but she’s so stunned that she just presses her face to the window dumbly. Ji-won does the same. (Seung-yeon knows that Eun-young is faking this, but she assumes that Jin-soo is unaware of her motives and is reacting accordingly.)

There’s a hilarious pause while Eun-young is leaning over Jin-soo’s torso, practically on top of him, and he tells her to go on. She mutters, “You want me to do it? I pushed you, so you should do it [kiss].” Jin-soo: “What are you talking about?”

This pause has the effect of killing the mood — not that the mood was romantic, per se, but it has been charged with tension as they both waited to see what the other would do. Eun-young’s expression had gone from teasing to questioning, and at his terse response she now becomes serious.

With some anger creeping in, Eun-young tells Jin-soo not to mess around with her life: “You do all these things that I don’t ask for, and then you don’t do what I do ask for. I’m not thankful at all. If you have even a little thought for me, you’d do what I wanted you to. Don’t keep doing things I don’t ask you to do. When did I ever ask you to help me?”

Ooh, banjun. I love when scenes suddenly turn on their heads, and that’s what happens here. The comic uncertainty and jokey tension dissipates entirely, and Jin-soo asks, “So what is it you want from me? A convincing, magnificent kiss?” Their exchange is loaded with meaning — not about the words at all but in the way they say them.

Eun-young (Duh, exactly): “Yeah.”
Jin-soo (challenging): “Yeah?”
Eun-young (matter-of-fact): “Yeah.”
Jin-soo (very interested) “Yeah…”

However, Eun-young’s confidence seems to falter, and her gaze wavers uncertainly, like she’s about to back down and give up on her crazy scheme. Which is when Jin-soo decides, “Then let’s do it my way. I don’t like this way.”

Ji-won and Seung-yeon watch in horror and disbelief as Jin-soo leaps up and clears off all the papers from her desk. Moving with decisive assertiveness, Jin-soo flips around their stances, lowering Eun-young onto the tabletop and leaning down over her, one of her legs bent and raised up by his waist.

Then, Jin-soo gets up to face the window, where he looks tauntingly at Ji-won. He reaches toward his waistline… and pulls out his belt… and pulls the blinds shut. HAHAHAHA.

As soon as he pulls the blinds closed, he’s back to his old self. Putting his belt back on, he points out that it’s more powerful to leave them to their imaginations. Eun-young, however, is just as shocked by his sudden romantic fake-out and takes some moments to recover from its effects.

Ji-won and Seung-yeon are both so stricken by the events that they stagger from the window in a daze.

Jin-soo suggests heading out for something to eat. Eun-young, now recovering her composure, tells him that he’s right and wise — he’s more logical than her. “I understand,” she tells him. She’s referring to his tactic, but it also mirrors her perception of their emotional paths as well — he puts on a good show and comes out of it totally unmoved, while she can’t be that detached.

Jin-soo points out that no matter how worked up she gets over something, she’s always able to return to her original state. Eun-young forces a smile and agrees — that’s her, all right. Coolly, she turns down his dinner invitation, and he heads back to his office.

Once he’s gone, though, Eun-young lies back down on her desk, still feeling all that pent-up anticipation.

When Jin-soo gets back to the office, he tsks-tsks over the silly plan Seung-yeon had worked out with Eun-young. Seung-yeon realizes that this means he was aware that the whole thing was faked, which means that his part was also just as faked. (Her shock came from thinking that Eun-young had made an advance as an act, which he reciprocated in reality.) This is a thought that vastly relieves her — until she recalls with frustration that she shouldn’t feel relieved about that, as he is her boss and et cetera.

A few nights later, Seung-yeon is working at her family’s coffee shop when Dong-wook comes by. He’s happy to see her through the window, but his path is blocked by her curious family, and he has to endure a brief interrogation before he can head inside, answering questions about his family situation. Grandma likes him, although Dad has a few reservations. (Grandma points out that his reservations are unfounded, since Dong-wook is no worse off than Dad himself.)

I wonder if it’s worth noting that Dong-wook appears to be getting sloppier (outside of work) while Eun-young continues to get sharper — her hair is smooth and straight, and her dressing style is becoming more put-together.

Seung-yeon hasn’t been to the office in three days, because Jin-soo had been busy writing and told her not to come until he called. Dong-wook perks up, as this means she has lots of free time, and just as he starts to ask her to a movie, she gets a phone call that cuts him off.

Seung-yeon answers eagerly, hoping it’s Jin-soo calling her back to work, but it turns out to be Hyun-joo. The publishing office is cluttered with birthday presents, and they were hoping she would take them up to Jin-soo’s place. Seung-yeon had been under the mistaken belief that Jin-soo’s “real” birthday was months later and that this was only his “profile birthday.” Of course, it turns out that Jin-soo had lied — she’d been going on and on about throwing him a party, so he picked a different date to shut her up.

Dong-wook tries to ask Eun-young out again, but now she’s distracted by this news, and barely hears him. She decides that the day isn’t over yet, so there’s still time to plan some birthday events. I love that her reasoning isn’t (only) to celebrate his birthday, but to get back at him for lying to her in the first place. Hee. She’s learning!

At the store, she picks up an array of party supplies, choosing items that will most annoy Jin-soo, and heads over with her items of torture. However, Jin-soo looks out the window to see her walking up bearing her festive atrocities, and decides to sneak out before she gets there. He drops by a local convenience store to pick up some snacks, then makes a phone call.

Seung-yeon now has an apartment key so she lets herself in and starts to decorate. When she answers the phone, it’s Jin-soo demanding that she remove every little balloon and party favor immediately. If there’s anything left when he gets back, he’ll fire her. She protests (and despite her desire for a little “revenge,” she really does mean the best), but she senses he means it and glumly starts to collect the decorations.

Jin-soo steps out of the phone booth just as a sudden downpour starts. Without an umbrella and with no particular place to be, he retreats back into the glass booth and pops a beer. Happy birthday to me.

A knock on the glass draws his attention — it’s Eun-young, standing just outside.

She is on her way in, having had a few drinks herself, in celebration of signing a new contract. She tells him to come with her, since she’s got an umbrella, so Jin-soo grabs his plastic bag and starts to leave, but the contents spill out and beer cans fall to the ground.

He kneels to pick them up, while she comments on the oddity of him drinking alone in a phone booth on his birthday, especially considering that he’s a star author with crowds of fans. He thought she’d forgotten his birthday, to which she responds that since he’d prefer that she forget, she has to act the part to oblige him.

Jin-soo likes that about her, in contrast to his dense secretary who insisted on going out to prepare him a birthday party. Eun-young points out that Seung-yeon’s the normal one — it’s Jin-soo who’s abnormal. Eun-young adds that in going out of her way to suit him, that has turned her into another abnormal one: “I can’t buy a present for a friend on his birthday, or tell him congratulations.”

Jin-soo replies that he doesn’t need words of congratulations, “But a present is good. Just give me a present.” He’s happy with that, just as long as it doesn’t come with a birthday card.

At that, Eun-young’s gaze changes — she stares at him more intently as he continues to chat. Then, without warning, she drops her umbrella, steps inside the phone booth, and moves in for a kiss.

COMMENTS

I have gotten questions about a Coffee House novel, which appears to be a different case from Coffee Prince or Personal Taste, where the drama was adapted from a previously published book. It looks like the Coffee House novel — or I’d call it novelization — was published after the drama began to air, and one of the writers is the same writer of the drama. Based on a few reader reviews, the characters are the same but the storyline is a little different. So I wouldn’t go around worrying about what happens in the book version.

However, if you are curious, here are the chapter titles. (Highlight to read; I’m keeping them hidden for those who wish to avoid the spoilers.)

CHAPTERS

1. Meeting at Palace Coffee
2. My enemy, my treasure
3. Love’s emergency landing
4. I’ll become a pro secretary!
5. The Jang Dong-gun and Go So-young of the publishing world
6. Dreams can’t come true
7. 척하면 착!
(This is the thing that Jin-soo tells Seung-yeon, and I don’t have a good direct translation for it. It basically means that if he gives the signal, she should know what to do immediately.)
8. This is Jeju Island
9. Things that change, things that don’t change
10. Ten-year friendship
11. Goodbye, Palace Coffee
Epilogue

END CHAPTERS

It’s funny how I’ve never warmed to Park Shi-yeon before, and suddenly love her. Even after she improved mightily in La Dolce Vita and Story of a Man (as well as several movie projects), she was no longer bad but I still didn’t connect with her. But I find her absolutely endearing, adorable, and winning in Coffee House, and I love her chemistry with Kang Ji-hwan. She banters, teases, taunts, holds herself confidently, and even manages to show glimpses of uncertainty and vulnerability, all with a natural charm.

It’s partly that she’s improved, but also that this role really shows her off to her best advantage. I wonder if she’s one of those actresses whose perceived image and persona are quite different from her real personality, and therefore when she acts in roles that require her to be haughty or glamorous (which is how most people see her), it doesn’t work as well because there’s a disconnect in the acting. But I love her as this character.

As for the chemistry? Off the charts. How hot was that last kiss, huh? But not only that, I particularly dug the fake-out scene, because there were a lot of different layers operating there. There’s the outward “show” to convince Ji-won that they’re romantically involved, and their facade with each other that this is all just a ploy, and that they’re cool and unperturbed by the act. Then there’s a tinge of hope (for instance, in the way Eun-young looks to him when she wants him to kiss her), and then the flash of contained disappointment (when he doesn’t kiss her). I didn’t think this pair would be so well-matched at the beginning of the drama, but I’m a big fan now. And if THIS episode didn’t convince you… well, then, I guess nothing ever will?

Fan! I just so in love with you now! ^_^
HSDS is also my favourite series of all time! Like I said I have all those version. And will buy any new ones coming my way. I'm still not sure, which one is my favourite though as each one has its own great new moment.

Now, that you mention it, perhaps that's why I love Eun Young yes she reminds me of Zhao Min a little bit (that cunning, powerful, brilliant, evil Princess) hehehe....

I love powerful women, no denying that.
Yes, perhaps we should also create a discussion forum as well about HSDS, so we could talk about it to our hearts content ^_^

Apologies to others for digressing. But I highly recommend this series for those who haven't seen it yet. It's really great! Even for those who doesn't like romance. The plot is just great! Trust me on this.

@ Miaka-chan

omgsh, I remember the times when I was glued to the TV because of wuxia series. All the elders in my family, except for my mom, LOOOOVVVE that genre. I grew up watching LOCH, ROCH, Tian Long Ba Bu, Heave Sword and Dragon Sabre. But I saw the more recent ones, since I wasnt' really alive when the old ones were out, but my uncles always said that the older, the better. Andy Lau...yea, he was something in ROCH huh? Man, I miss those stuff. Do you have something that's recent but worth a watch? I haven't been following these stuff and I really want to watch one before summer ends, and my hectic school begins.

BTW- Have you/anyone saw ShangHai Bund? the newer one with Hua XiaoMing? I'm thinking of finishing that drama, but I'm not sure if I should, or just start a new one already.

And I'm going to find My Girldfriend is an Agent somewhere to watch. Any good sites to recommend?

If we're going to compare Coffee House with Yitian Tulong Ji (Heavenly Sword Dragon Sabre), I'd like to make a few comments regarding the male protagonist. If they turn JS into anything NEAR as wishy washy as Zhang Wuji when it comes to the loveline, I will personally go and slap the senses into the boy. Seriously, I don't know what Zhao Min saw in him. At least for the other three, he saved them a few times or was extra nice to them so it was understandable as to why they would fall for him. But Zhao Min? Come on girl, you could've done way better than that fool.

@soysauce
Shanghai Bund is a good series but definitely a heavy one. It's another one that's been remade for the 5th million time, so you won't have to worry about a crappy storyline.

Hehehe... funny that we now start to bring other series into CH discussion, first, Lois and Clark and now HSDS (both are the world's classic). Does it mean that CH is also on the way to be one itself?

Yes Sleepy! I'm 1000% agree with you regarding Zhang Wuji's character when it comes to romance. It annoys me to no end! Every time he's not with Zhao min and interact with his other girls (and it's plenty as Zhang Wuji and Zhao Min's screen time is very limited - and I think this could be used as an example to answer those who use who has more screen time with the lead guy is the one who'll get him argument) I feel like screaming : stop being so nice and make them fall for you!

So Jin Soo, I'm warning you...becareful.. don't make SY who starts to fall for you misinterpret your attention and consideration as love!
And you're right again Sleepy, Zhao Min doesn't deserve the pains she has to experiece because of his undecisiveness! She's a very powerful Princess for heaven sake!

And that's why I want to warn Jin Soo again,...please have a care with Eun Young heart! Don't be another Zhang Wuji!

@ 4 sleepy

OH my my!! That completely TRUE!!! I'm agree with you for to be Jin Yong and Gu Long fan!!

You mentionned a good thing. If JS become a Wuji type ..i WOULD hate him.
Sorry, but after all Wuji can't decide BETWEEN the 4 girls UNTIL the end o.o
Come on, Wuji..i was thinking he the one who can't decide at all from all characters from Jin Yong. Imagine!! Guo Jing is better than him o.o He choose Huang Rong and break his word with his fiancé. He understand he love Huang Rong and that all. She was only 15-16 year old and Guo Jing 20-22 o.o but they know each other they love together.

You know, i was thinking is because when she meet him a first time, she fall for him. Zhao Min. Also add Zhiruo in the plot, Zhao Min jealous is really scary but also Zhiruo. I think is because she saw Zhiruo and Wuji have something between them so she don't want no one take Wuji from her. Three wish..from Zhao Min is keep Wuji all his life to her ...that so cute of her.

So if JS turn to be a person who can't decide who he love the most like Wuji...i quit all ship ..and only ship for Coffee House ....

Btw Wuji is the most who have the good combat skill from Guo Jing and Yang Guo....but have a lot problem for love ...and can't decide in nothing for love -.-;

Guo Jing is the most stupid and his wife the more intelligent woman in jiang hu. But his characters is really gentle ..well in Loch ...in Roch ...a bit more mature and intelligent from his wife hehe...

Yang Guo did have a excentric character like JS a bit, also like Huang Rong father ...the one from excentric also arg..forgot his name ...but also be dramatic because his love for his own teacher. Karma from his Yang Kang dad ....''sigh''

well..hope JS don't turn to be Zhang Wuji...i prefer him to be Yang Guo o.o

correction, in the novel or tv adaptation, Zhao Min have appear more. The one other appear a lot is Zhiruo. After she practice her inner force and become Emei lead, she did appear along her ''husband''.

I know that you ''HATE'' SY/JS ...but could you give some chance for them if they really end together?

I would give a chance for EY/JS if they really is the OTP and the plot explain me that they love each other so they must be together.

Right now, you can don't give even 1% a chance to accept a possibility for SY/JS to be a pair. So you will hate the PD and the scripwriter for that? and would hate Coffee House all the way o.o

For JS be nice to everyone, the most he nice with the person, the most this person is a stranger for him. The most he be familiar with the person like he be with SY and EY the most they are nearby to him.
That is explain in episode 2 by EY ^^

JS don't make SY fall for him, it's just happen like that. Even JS didn't know about how his action could make SY have a feeling for him. Also we still don't know about JS. JS could have some good feeling also for SY and he don't know himself ...[speculation don't take that like is a true]

Again JS LOVE EY and EY LOVE JS ...yes that is really TRUE
but love can change...so why is impossible that EY or JS change ?
If someone from EY or JS let go this love ...could you accept a second chance for JS to become a couple with someone else? or you just don't feel SY can be a canditate?

Again be SY/JS shippers and i keep write that
I DON'T HATE EY/JS couple ...but PD must to explain inside the plot story why he choose them ^^

thank for to read ^^

If JinSoo were like Yang Guo...he'd never get over his ex-wife (assuming he loved her).

The most "realistic" love story of the main Jin Yong novels would probably belong to Linghu Chong& Ren Yingying from Xiao Ao Jiang Hu (State of Divinity). As for Zhang Wuji...I was actually a Zhou Zhiruo shipper at the begining (though I did enjoy Zhao Min's character, too). But once they got to the fire-ice island, I was pretty much turned off by any shipping when Zhang Wuji was sitting on the boat day dreaming that he could have all four of them (greedy bastard). Seriously, he's a great guy and all, but in terms of romance, he deserved none of the ladies. He didn't really even "choose" for the most part even though he admitted that he'd probably liked Zhao Min the most at the end. Still, for the most part, it was kind of like, "Oh, Xiao Zhao needs to go to Persia? Okay, I guess I have to cross her off my list. Zhu'er is dead? I guess there goes that relationship. Zhao Min killed my cousin and stole the weapons? I guess Zhiruo, you're the only one left. Oh wait, what? You mean Zhao Min is innocent and Zhiruo was the bad one? I guess I'll have to stick with Zhao Min instead."

I don't see Jin Soo being that wishy washy though...hopefully *cross fingers*. I mean, the guy seems to be a bit hesitant in expressing his feelings, but I think once he figures out what he wants, he'll stick with it.

More off topic: I'd hate to be nitpicky, but Bai Fa Muo Nu Zhuan (Legend of the White Haired Maiden) is actually by Liang Yusheng :). Anyways, thought I'd mention it only because I'd recommend the Seven Swordsman series if none of you have already watched it (http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Seven_Swordsmen). The TV series is totally different from the novel, but still pretty well made IMO. And it still rings in Liang Yusheng's style--bittersweet story.

If JS was really in love with his ex-wife, yes ..he can't become Yang Guo
But if JS married with the ex-wife really fast like someone from Soompi said and he could be really in love with EY. JS could become Yang Guo.....^^

Do you think Yang Guo and JS have a same excentric personality? Yang Guo is a lady man also ...i think he win for the number a girls falling with him....but only one Long Nu. ^^

Linghu Chong & Ren Yingying couple
the most realiste couple in Jin Yong ...that seem true....
Linghu Chong didn't accept Yingying love after be so long time in love with his sword-sister. He couldn't accept someone else than his sword-sister who married with Lin Ping Zhi [i hate this perso! ].
He will accept her long time after ....They start to playing a citar and Yingying deguise herself a old woman. This is soooo cute when Linghu Chong find her like a young woman who also beautiful. But he didn't love yet ....it's after he know what she do for him [Shaolin place....] He missing her presence, her sitar playing ...
Can i compare Xiao Ao Jiang Hu ...LingHu Chong and Ren Yingying with SY/JS couple? a slow couple developpement?

No SY isn't like AT all like Yingying
JS also isn't like LingHu Chong
but just a developpement ^^

MY COMPLETE MISTAKE
yes is was really from Liang Yusheng o.o Legend of the White Haired Maiden
I was mistake with Sentimental Swordman from Gu Long -.-;;;
The too is sad so ....-.-;;

About the Seven Swordman ...i was going watching until my friend in other forum said to me like a lot die o.o
I was like o.o no way ......i was going to rent or download it o.o
If you recommend to me that great....hope isn't sad ...i can't control well my tear sniff....

So for you ^^ if you didn't watch yet ..a classic story but remake ..
http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Chu_Liu_Xiang_2007

I never like KEN from F4 [marmalade Boys ....] was scary to watch it because o.o Ken in ancient serie o.O . How i could imagine it . + THIS Chu Liu Xiang isn't have a WHITE CLOTHE O.O no way i can't imagine ...it's the playboy Chu liu Xiang ...<
But i was amazing by the serie ....a lot love story and the plot is deep ...maybe too much in love serie ...hehe Chanhoman [Benny Chan] also acting ^^

You must to watch it ...i love the theme song
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31ECaNYQ8Co

You can't figure who he would end ...hehe but i did shipping for the good girl YAY!!

Also ...i did also like Richie version ....and also the theme song and story
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=za8KmEK5ydU

BTW O.O I finally find a serie with a same interaction like EY/JS
My Date with my Vampire !!! for sure...ONE my MOST favorite serie EVER !!!
Part 1, part 2 and 3

The two lead keep arguing ....one a Vampire and one a Ma family who destroy vampire !!!
but i dunno if it's a same like EY/JS couple ....

I'm still ship with SY/JS couple ^^

@mara,

no need for the trailer. The synopsis sounds like something interesting. I'll need to watch it whenever I get the chance.

Actually there are a couple of shows I need watch when I get a chance. Capital Scandal being one of them.

And I agree with you about not ever actually "loving to hate a character." I either hate/dislike a character. Or I enjoy the character as is. Meaning even if it's supposed to be an antagonist character (Jiwon isn't really an antagonist character), I just watch. This usually means it needs good writing and acting. If it's supposed to be over the top, I laugh. But hardly hate.

I wish EY/JS happy ending too!
they mean to be each other, isnt it? :)

Other than your feeling that JS was not YET in love with EY... My feeling is JS cares about EY long time before EY does on him ^^

I love how tender JS kissed Ey...... It feels like he wants her for a long long time....so sweet .....he was enjoying the kiss very much ……

EJ/JS is so adorable couple .. I hope they can be one of the classical CP of 2010!!

JS/EY FTW!

We've been speculating over at soompi about what JS is going to do after the kiss.. and came up with a few funny suggestions.

"Err.. thank you."

"Hmm... I wan't quite ready for the gift... could we start over?"

"Who are you and what did you do to EY?"

Lol at the wuxia OT discussion, as everyone says- back to CH! :)

ROFL! YES! RENT VHS! goodness, back in the daaaayyyysssss before this whole internet streaming videos happened. I have never seen the older versions of these wuxia series, but I really do love the story lines. I think I'm going to start HSDS 2009 with Ady Choi. The effects look pretty amazing.

I just saw the intro for the new Journey to the West and I have to say, it doesn't look very appealing. I saw the very very first version when I was around 5 or 6, and it was pretty much the shizzzzzzz. I LOVE THAT SERIES SOOO MUCH.

I'm not a fan of The Myth, so I probably wont' check out the series version, and htank you for the My Girlfriend is an Agent link. I'll watch that tonight! :D

Mike He....wow, I remember watching Devil Beside You solely because of him. I don't think I'll have time to watch Infernal Love, but maybe I'll squeeze that in somewhere. heh, I do love me some Mike He.

I have a feeling the comments on this recap will go up and up because everyone of us is on serious Coffee House withdrawal. (hah! coffee withdrawal, get it?) I cannot WAIT for ep. 9.

Yes ! the new HSDS is good ^^ but -.-;; a bit going off from the original plot ...
Still the special effect is GREAT and Ady An is great ^^. You know the opening theme is sing by Zhang Wu Ji actor Deng Chao and the ending was sing by Ady An and euh forgot his name...

The new Journey to the WEST for me isn't also appealing but is a JTTW so what can i do but watch it ^^. I love this serie, with a lot buddhist message, same like the story with Dharma serie. Or The Reincarnated Princess serie ...

http://www.spcnet.tv/TVB-Series/The-Swordsman-Lai-Bo-Yee-review-r2108.html
Here another serie where the second lady is a OTP with the lead ....I do love Patrick a lot so ...hehe ..

The MYTH serie is really more good than the one from the movie -.-;;
It's really change everything from the MYTH movie but yes, we have the guy who return 2000 YEAR before ....

"STEP by STEP. Ooh babaaaaaay! Gonna GET to ya GIRRRRRRRRLLLL!"
Yes, even though I'm at work, I'm totally playing KNOTB's "Step By Step" through YouTube Vevo (headphones rock). I have no shame.

I've started re-watching the series in order to further probe and analyze it in a deep, intelligent, thoughtful manner....

...OK, so that was a lie. I started re-watching this weekend because I'm going through withdrawal (hardy har har @ 15 soysauce), and I swear I must be defective, because while everyone else is noticing the romance, all I can think about is how HILARIOUS this cast is. I would give my left kidney to see them all collide. Really. Can you imagine if Eun-young and her grandfather for some reason had to go to Seung-yeon's family's coffee shop? Eun-young and her grandfather are such an awesome, no-nonsense mofos, while Seung-yeon's father and grandmother are just ... *facepalm* I don't even know!

I've only re-watched the first two episodes and half of episode three, but this stuff is even funnier the second time around. I'm not even sure how that's possible. Jin-soo, Seung-yeon's grandmother, the sweater vest and the medicinal spray in episode two. Seung-yeon's family's food attack on her ex in episode one (So Ninja!). Or Dong-wook taking in Seung-yeon's Totally Rad Sign Language Skillz. Or Ji-won with his wink-smirk-fingerpoint combo. Or that whole ordeal with the wildcat and the lynx. This show is outrageous, and I'm not even at episode 3 with the sheep pasture yet prank yet.

Lastly: I've seen a new shipping war break out into the JS/JW vs. JS/DW factions. I am willing to take sides here. I'm with Choufy on this one. JS & JW are OBVIOUSLY the way to go.

Ji-won: Who's my sweet widdle Heffalump? Who's my lumpy wumpy?

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm96/javabeans122/drama/2010/ch/ch1/ch2-00132.jpg

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm96/javabeans122/drama/2010/ch/ch1/ch4-00027.jpg
Ji-won: Come here and let me squeeze those preshus cheekies.
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm96/javabeans122/drama/2010/ch/ch1/ch3-00026.jpg

Oh mah gah. Lahlita has officially Lost The Plot, y'all. Coffee House withdrawal has left me several brain cells short of a synapse. I'm just gonna go focus on the World Cup and cheer on my and Mr. Lahlita's teams for the next few weeks (USA and Netherlands). What-what!

Finally we are a same side dear ^^ i'm JW/JS shippers also

In High School, JS made a friend who also strange like him name JW. After, they hag out together to play a computer game and go out to have some fun. In this time, JS was strange because his feeling for JW grown up. In university, he present JW to EY and JW falling in love with EY. Sad life because, JS wasn't thinking about that so he was so sad to lost his beloved and his great friend EY. In a same time, he meet EY friend. EY friend fall in love with the first sign ask EY to present JS to her. So that why is coming 4 couples. JS, who be sad but need to hide his inner feeling go out with EY friend.............to be continue

Hehehehe......my goodness! What has CH done to us? It turns us into a bunch of loonies ....^-^
I was flying out of the capital to other Province for an official trip. Yet, while the Governor was giving his welcoming speech my eyes were glued to my BB reading strange and funny things you wrote here ^-^

@ sleepy:
-love you calling Zhang Wuji greedy bastard and that 'cross the check list' analysis ^-^
-I think Jin Soo is different from Zhang Wuji. He's selfish enough to do and get what he wants once he makes up his mind. He would fight/work for their love. Unlike that bastard Zhang Wuji who let Zhao Min did all the hard work!

@miaka-chan:
-hate is a too strong word to describe one feelings for something/anything. It needs a very legitimate reason.
-what's to hate about SY?
-I don't' think we're on the same page regarding this loving/hating a series. Allow me to explain how I feel regarding this issue that seems very important to you. 1st example:) HSDS is indeed my favourite series and Zhao Min is my favourite female character perhaps ever. But Zhang Wuji? Hell, I think I hate him the most amongst all other male lead! Does it give you enough clarity on how I see things? 2nd illustration:) I hate Damo's ending with a passion! But on the other hand, I consider Damo as one of the best KDrama I've seen. What I love most about Damo is its strong characters and the fact that they love each other so much so deeply. I cried an ocean as the story developed. It hurt too much to watch. And that's why the passionate hate for its ending. Does it change the fact that Damo is an awesome drama? No, it doesn't.
-I love CH so far. I think it's refreshing, entertaining and engaging. And I love Jin Soo and Eun Young interactions the most. What a pair!
-If the writers could develop their story further I think they will easily become my most favourite couple in KDrama.
-How about Jin Soo and SY? I'm sorry to say this, I don't hate your SY, but if she ends up with Jin Soo I see nothing special in that pairing. This pairing doesn't appeal to me as much as Jin Soo and Eun Young pairing
-Will I hate CH then? I'm not sure. Like I said, hate is a very strong word. One needs to feel very strongly to either hate/love.
-Lately, I don't find KDrama that satisfactory anymore. Just watc one or two episodes before dumping them. Does it mean I have them? No, I'm simply not that intrigued nor excited. That's all.
-CH is stiil work in progress. It's great so far. Let's see how long it'll be able to hold my interest. Hopefully till the end.

@fan:
Very amusing ^-^
Here's my share of contribution:
Jin Soo: Ehm,..do I still get my bonuses?
Eun Young: Well...I should've thought about it sooner. I could've saved a lot of money with this method.
Jin Soo: You'd better not! You might have to spend a lot more in court fighting the angry wives/girl friends of your other authors.
Eun Young : yeah you're right. I just going to use it with you then.

I think DWs style of dressing in the coffee shop is just plain. But in his free time however, he does do casual very well.

But I think we are all forgetting the breakthrough moment for JW and JS. Jinsoo was dressed down. Plain old, somewhat baggy/loose jeans. Definitely not stylish and just used to hang out. And a really loose and baggy striped v-neck shirt (I don't even know what to call it).

That's right. Jinsoo takes care to bring different dynamics to his relationship with his sunbae.

What did DW do, when he saw JS in that get up? Shoot him death stares. What did JW do? Heheheheheheheheehe. We all know the answer to that.

Well for me I held off on watching this episode until now because I knew it would take two weeks for new ones. Now it's only one week and I can pretend the break never happened lol (that and last week was crazily busy).

I'm still sweatin' from that kiss! Woooooo...I wish they kept at it awhile longer hahaha. Park Si-yeon has miraculously moved into my A+ actor list with this character....I can only hope she can continue to do so in the future! Hi miaka...
Let me there in the name of SY/JS, lol...i find you fight the battle with your sword and you keep struggle..hahaha keep strong gals! ^^

Just get more interest with all our thoughts to defend our ship. That pretty awesome girl.
I’m on SY/JS ship..
I do admit myself that JS in love with EY. But i consider what part PD brought for SY? firstly I’m scared hoping for JS/SY and stay calm if SY will be professional writer beside her manager means SY end to be professional and ignore love conflict in her. I’m okay with that before, but then someone has fighting for the ship very well (yeah, its you miaka..^^) so I think I will fight with you & all SY/JS shippers...
I can’t make fanfic. I prefer have small analysis and imagine how far the plot could be. For SY/JS of course...
I remember with the first step of SY when she said JS will beg her to stay...I scared to stated that it is the sign for us. But its bring a lot of us, shippers of SY/JS here...in this battle...lol, then let’s analyze..None is right or false in our analysis, because it is depend on our preference. I’ve decide to go with JS/SY ship. I will responsible to my decision as well..so I don’t mind any protest for my taught after...
About JS past, I think the one can resolve all his’ past is himself, no one can...neither EY and SY. But he need someone to pushing him. Just someone give him a bait to reconsider all. Im pretty sure it is SY. If he love EY, he need just fight his’ past for it...Then move forward. However, I guess he have some awareness that it not that so simply. These scars not healed by finishing his’ love interest with EY. Because it is more than love interesting only, not simply love conflit.
I found characteristic build above condition & environment. JS characteristic now was build over his’ past. Whatever it is. If he make his’ EX so sad before, is his’ choice make people around him down..don’t know the exact. But something happen in the past that bring him to be the unique person right now. So mask-full, so perfectionist, so feel-hider...Ouw, I’m just curious about it. So something he must overcome to move forward to be the way JS should be. My explanation here I’m being curious how he’s been wear mask too much in front of people he doesn’t know well. Maybe it is because he scared of himself. if he show he’s the way he is, people getting hurt. i.e when we go to the past and possible that JS make confirmation to his’ EX about he ever been has feeling for EY. He just tries to be honest with her (JS’ EX) but then his’ EX stressful (since she knows that EY also has crush to JS) bring her to death (accident or suicide). Its one thing, JS feels honesty sometimes so hurtful to bear. Maybe there’ll another things to show because he’s feel guilty so much then he decide not to show the originality of him. Stop being himself in front of people he doesn’t’ know very well. So it is important for him to taking care of this. Found the ‘root’ why he become the way JS as now (include he need to reconcile his’ past with EY).
If he has found the ‘core’ of all, he need to consider his’ personality now, whether he comfortable with or just feeling so blue? If he comfy with it, then means he will be JS as we know right now and possible he end with EY. Because his’ past simply just feeling guilty of love interest matter that forbidden to reveal.
But if he doesn’t comfy with it & the second (feels blue) was he in now..then I’m he should be courageous to face his past. It is hurt to overcome his past, his scar. It will make him more hurt than before because while he want to finished all, he just like through it all again. Those hurts, those sadness...and SY will help him. Because I agree he need someone else out of his’ past to pushing him out of his’ shell: release himself, forgive himself...forgive the past...JS will reject her several times of course, but SY with her crush will be the one to cure JS’ scars, with her way...
Who end with who. I’m on SY/JS not because I’d found their relationship funny. Not at all. It is just the surface, tools to build the relationship. You know, when we know some one liking to joke all around very much, when we get closer with them, we realise sometime its because he/she tired with themselves and one day they will be tired to be clown for others. They want to acknowledge as human being, as normal...For SY, deep down inside, SY could be as lonely as EY, has her misery but should she revealed to everyone? for what? I think she doesn’t reveal herself because she know, she can’t be burdened for some else so she need to keep it for her self and give to the world the other side of her. Her loyalty, her happiness, her support, her truthfulness thought. SY, i guess will keep it, her crush, secret for herself. Her silently just make me feels her love deeper than some one else. It s different from EY’s. EY hide because scare of her & JS past. While SY hide because she know very well JS crush on EY. Ok, she keeps it secret since she know she won’t get the return. But knowing her characterrs, instead of her awareness of JS’ love interest, she keep it secret merely because she want some one she loved to be happy. wanting to be loved : yes. but expecting JS’ happiness is her concern so she just try to keep far away her expectation to be loved...The best gift for someone you love was yourself...omG, omG....this kind of love so awesome....
I will also protest if she accept JS’ love while JS still in relationship with EY or part of his’ life on EY..no, don’t do that. It’s so bad to build your relationship on other scar, esp when you’re cheat....If JS (by any chance, PD give this plot) fall in SY, I wish because JS already finished all his’ stuff with EY, know very well what he need...not to runaway but because ready to have new love and to be loved again.
From now we wait what PD bring us who’s SY, EY and JS for real...can’t wait it. PD also has homework regarding the couple. If it is EY/JS, I need more explanation rather than SY/JS. Ok, they are best friend. Ok, theys know each other very well but they revealed their feeling because insecurity of someone else (SY) not the best plot. *PD, give me the acceptable and reasonable justification...(as we need justification for SY/JS pairing). Because, someday when you found difficulties or problems in your relationship, you’ll realise that you’re not make best choice and time can not turn back. You choose because something outside of you pushes you to. Means, you’re not choose but you’ve chosen. I’m afraid this kind of relationship cannot be responsible. If you’re fall in other, you must responsible, aware of your choices, awareness is important not make you be someone’s burden and in the other hand think your pair is burden you so much. Because you already choose so you’ve responsible. This what i mean. It’s i found in 9end1out, which the male lead fall with the female lead because he want to be cared as she care to her boyfriend. He feels he need it either. Someone from his past come to make him more realise and have clean taught who he needed more. And the female lead yet not see it as best base for their relationship to be moved on so she just ignore until she find that he has true feeling for her. He has clean feeling. He already finished all his’ past. She also finished her’s past. Then they move on.
In different scenario we have’ My best friend’ wedding about friend pair Julianne (Julia Robert) & Mike (Dermot Mulroney). Remember ship scene when they sang their song together which make me sad alot for their time passing by symbolised when their boat passing under the bridge. Mike said “ when you love someone you should say it out loud right at the moment you’ve been in love or the moment passes you by”. At that moment after Mike said it, the boat already pass by the bridge. arrgggghh...wanna cry a lot and give hug to Julianne at that time. That song that Jules lent to Mike & Kimmy for wedding gift “ the way you look tonight...huhuhhu, feels so blue. Hehe, back then... After nine years of their friendship, julianne found that she stuck with mike which he will married to Kimmy (Cameron Diaz) but then she know Mike isnt the same person on her taught. He already found some one comforting him. However, he can not lose his bestfriend (julianne) because some one rooting in his heart in different aspects, someone to be loved and someone to stay a friend. He need both...hence, i agree with you Miaka, love sometime about timing....
Then, its JS to make all clean for himself...which one he needed. First move of course, finished his’ past. All.
I will keep my spirit to enjoy CH and fairly accept any pairing. In case JS not pairing with some one, I do respect his’ choice. Not this time maybe, he need more time. Then the message for us not about love conflict, but as discuss..about maturity of charateristic. About facing the past, dare face the future, keep struggle with curcumstances world given...nooo, its too much. Lol. I mean, just about growing, develop, learning...
Lol, I’m become demanding and expecting a lot for the plot now.
I can’t imagine with all of our expectation, if PD can give all to us? Hahahaha...I’m afraid dissapointment incured with all of my expectation. Yhhh, let PD do his homework, any result of it, let believe he do the best..
COFFEE HOUSE : awesome!!!

hi there, this will be my first time commenting...cant help it! hehehe... anyway, thanks javebeans for that wonderful recap.. actually, I first read your recaps before watching the videos... and thanks for the comments here, I realized I had to turn off the discussion button in viikii so I can enjoy each episodes... hehehe...

Just want to say I love JW/EY couple.. I really hope they end up together... Although it seems that there are a lot of complications in their relationship... but i believe those complications, though difficult, are not impossible to resolve... that's why i find it exciting!! =D

Though its really amusing to read all the comments here, I must admit, Im shallow, so I don't have deeper analysis of this drama or whatsoever, I just love happy endings... so I hope all characters will end up happy!!! (^_^)

Sigh... after that kiss, should I really wait 3 more weeks???!!!! This is torture! hehehe

@34, von

I don't think JS is *in* love with EY. I don't think she is either. I think they both love each other care for each other deeply. But they're not in love.

I know JS/EY shippers will disagree. And if the it becomes JS/EY in the end, I would say it goes to being in love later on. But not now.

If Jin-Soo is supposed to end up with Seung Yeon, then it's really bad directing because he's enjoying the kiss with EY way too much. It should have been a lip-touching kiss or have had him have a surprised look. This kiss should have been saved for the main romantic leads.

Wow, lots of shippers' debates here, eh? I think we should just enjoy the show like people normally do hehe, but I think I wanna give my thoughts

I personally like JS-EY simply because they are both 'cool', and they're different than any other pairing I've seen in kdrama.
Not sloppy, not full of sweetness, and more importantly, looks mature.

Don't get me wrong, I love SY too, her reactions and her words always make me laugh a lot, and without her this drama won't be as funny as it is now.
But sometimes we just need different drama where the lead male doesn't always end up with the sloppy but sweet female character, right?
The fact that SY is changing JS's behavior is exciting to me, and I'm just wondering what if their relationship became like brother-sister?
For me, it will be funnier if JS helps DW to get SY, and SY helps EY to get JS. And in the end they all can go on double date :D :D

Well it's just something that comes up in my mind, no one but the cast and crew knows about the next episode and the ending..
Let's just hope it will end in a nice way so that one day we can watch it again without any weird feeling in our hearts :)

@mimi,

I think the one problem with the romantic genre, especially when they are films or a set episodes (but I like dramas that don't go above 20 episodes), is that they focus only one that one final pair.

In a lot of cases in real life, one is going to go through other relationships or deep bonds before finally settling on the person they want to/will marry. There may be many reasons for the ones before not working out. But it exactly diminish the significance those older feelings.

You could say relationships are shaped/affected in some way by the relationships or bonds that came before it.

I have a theory about JS/SY but it's not really that easy to explain. It also will probably not please a lot of people. But it's somewhat similar to what I said above. (Although, reading it again I realize the whole thing could be applied to JS/EY as well.)

@ Miaka-chan:

I think you took it a bit too personal here
We ( EUNSOO shippers) dont hate SY-JS shippers nor SY charater
We love her and think she has a lot of potential as well as contribution to the drama. The story wouldnt be the same without her.

I said it before, we have different belief and value so we may look at the exactly same thing with completely opposite views. But we are open and looking forward for SY romance possibilities in the future, if there is
For saying that, we still do pretect, support and reason for our actions and belief. It's funny but you do exactly the same thing as you said about us or even worse- by speculating of what is gonna happen to open more SY possibilities and close all chances for Eunsoo to be together without supporting reasons, but just personal imagination
I dont blame you because we follow what we belief. And there is no right and wrong in this case.
Despite my understanding how challeging for you to fight and endure for your couple around all the growing -strong and stable- Eunsoo love, yet I still want to defend my ship a little here.
- We dont know what is going to happen since CH is unpredictable, all possibilitis are there. But at least for now , we are reasoning and analyzing based on the observations and facts that had actually happened in the drama, not speculation, hypothesis, nor imagination. And for what we have seen, there are a lot of trace and hint for us to believe that EunSoo in the OTP (for us, at least) no matter what 's going to happen( not that SY-JS dont have any, but the question is " Do we WANT to see and read into it?") . Is it wrong for us to have faith??? ( For saying that, it doesn't mean I will "hate"-hate is a strong word btw- if SY and JS is the OTP at the end. As long as the script, story, and actors performace successfully covince me how so, CH is still one good drama)
And dont you think it's also unfair for EY when people already supported SY ( Or EJ- as their idol) even before the drama aired and admit that they wouldn't accept any other actress but EJ to be lead and be with the male lead???? It's shallow and childish for some of them to do that. On the other hand, you should know PSY wasnt all that famous actress nor have large fanbase ( huge anti fansbase in contrast , indeed). It was never PSY's advantage from the very beginning , especially when the drama introduced and lead SY/EJ as a a typical female lead in k-dramaland with the most screen time and family background.... So viewers will automatically support and predict that SY has to be the OTP, not the other. However, we have to give PSY and KJH credit for their impressive acting and their sizzling chemistry for turnning many of us to PSY/ EY supporters and die-hard EunSoo shippers desipte of the little screen times they had together.
And you mentioned the kiss. One the reason I like this couple because their relationship has a lot of layers to unfold and it's deep, challeging and mysterious( could I say that?). The kiss did seal the deal to many viewers but it doesnt say all about their romance, more like a confirmation. Their conversation, expressions, hidden emotional eyes, interaction, denying , preteding cover and intense tension in the last 8 episodes were what bought us slowly but steady into the believers bit by bit. Many cant deny their chemistry even in the 1st episode and we all know who and which interaction the drama focus on in the first 5 episodes, rite?

I just want to say please be open-minded with all the possibilities . So do we.
SY is a also a love interest of JS and there will definitely be more emotional process b/w them in the next episodes. We know that ,but there isnt much has surfaced on their romance yet ( especially on his side). It's difficult to us even just to reinforce SY ship and analyze the triangle love line with hypothesis, and not facts. They're absolutely cute and hilarious together and they have chemistry on-screen , yet just not in a ROMANTIC way.

Ok, that 's enough for the rant

Personally, I never expect a simple rom-com drama could have made us invest, analyze, debate, discuss non-stop even when the show wont be on for 3 weeks. CH is such wonderful piece of work. Despite of the language boundary, I 'm deeply grateful to read so many brilliant, refreshing, interesting and powerful arguments, debates, insights, analysises and comments from a lot smart and amazing drama lovers in various countries ( here and Soompi). It's delightful^^
Just want to say thank you!!!

Note: Oh I forgot,
For EY-JS shippers, we can call our love team "EUN-SOO " now
Isnt the name just as lovely as they are? hehe ^^

No CH for a while it may be, but the love blossoms in the absence of the beloved ^-^

At first I was like, who’s EUNSOO? Hehehe....don’t mind calling them that. But it feels that by agreeing to give them a nick name I’m committing myself to a long lasting relationship.

I whole heartedly want this couple to be a legend (contemporary legend), but could they? There are many good series besides CH that have interesting couple (personally I think My Sassy Girl Chun Yang is one of the most interestings, but then again it’s story comes from a way back), so it doesn’t really count.

Just like many others, I also love Cinderalla story which is getting excessive love here by Kdrama. Whenever I watch it I know that the first down on her luck girl on the screen will get the most handsome and rich guy afterward regardless of the fact that rich handsome guy already has a rich and beautiful girl friend or still in love with someone as beautiful as himself.

This story line has it charms and will continue to do so, but the problem is that it doesn’t have lasting impact. We’ve seen it all before. And will see it again, and again. Nothing special. The variety may be on how many ways the rather foolish/naive/clumsy girl might embarass herself in front of the perfect Prince or how hard those scenes will make us laugh before they become a couple. That’s it.

One just has to sit, prepare for a big laugh and a happy ending. We don’t need to think about what’s not being said, we don’t have to read beyond the lines, we don’t have to look into layers, because there is none.

I don’t feel excited when I see this kind of pairing. No increase heart beat whenever I see them together. No pain in the heart when he’s dones something not to my liking. What for? Yes,the guy is not in love with her now, let him be a jerk for a while, he’ll see her charms soon enough anyway. The other girl doesn’t even have a chance.

But CH has change that. Here’s a story where we could see the making of an increadible couple in an increadible way. If not brilliant. CH has set this couple against the most favourable pairing in Kdrama. Therefore the excitement and fervour. Is the other girl really the other girl?

The supporters of the popular theme are in a hot seat because this other girl is ......so not like all the other girl! And despite their fervant hope and strong conviction that their girl wil get the guy, the guy is just....so unlike the other guy!

He’s nice and kind to their girl. He also looks like he’s finally has a genuine fondness for her now after all their interactions which are plenty. But he stops as that. It doesn’t feel good. Their time on sceen could make the supporters of popular theme giddy with happiness because like in other Kdrama that would be enough to seal the deal.

But is it really so this time? Personally, I don’t think so. Despite its light hearted tone and its many hilarious scenes, I think CH is a deep one. And deep down, the supporters of the popular theme know it too. That’s why the uncertainty in this corner. After all, Jin Soo is not their ordinary guy.

While the supporters of the other girl are between heaven and hell. Their couple have this strange connection and relationship which are not something they could see on their daily Kdrama menu. It’s intoxicating, captivating, intense, rare and new – at least in Kdrama. When do you see that kind of sexual tension and physical attractions so strong that make you feel like screaming in front of your screen? None that I can think of. Well, there’s a little of that in the Coffe Prince Shop.

Despite this very obvious things that could be seen by all, the supporters of Jin Soo and Eun Young (EUNSOO) are not completely in heaven yet. All because of the existence of this ordinary girl, who wouldn’t be such a threat as Jin Soo himself doesn’t even show or feel any romantic feelings towards her. This hell comes only because of the sad fact that this is Kdrama after all and the ending in a certain book!

If I have a say in the making of CH, there’s no doubt of my decision. It’s going to be a decisive EUNSOO. This is one in a life time chance. Let other dramas continue with their usual themes because they don’t have the luck of having Jin Soo and Eun Young on their screen. But when I have something that rare, there’s no way I’m going to throw it away and replace it with what is common!

I’m not ashamed admitting that I love a good love story. But, amongst many plots which are available I dislike love at the first sight one the most. What I perceive as a good one is where love grows and blossoms between the couple despite having many obstacles. When love conquer it all and endures the hardship and the passage of time.

I love the idea of eternal love. That’s once you love someone you’ll love them forever. And I found this idea is very suitable had it been applied to EUNSOO. I almost make myself swooning with happiness just by imagining the romantic lines and hotter/sexier scenes I would create for EUNSOO who are still in denial had I been given a free reign ^_^

Another confession:

The first time I read the synopsis of CH I didn’t even know whether I want to see it or not. Publisher vs Secretary? I don’t want to waste my energy and be emotionally involved because even then I’m already liking the character of the publisher. And then the bomb dropped, PSY is the publisher?! I don’t even know how to explain my feelings. Satisfied? Disappointed?

It’s like:
Let her be the publisher for she’s going to be the other girl anyway the one who’ll get dumb by the guy. She’s got to be used to that by now. Suits her. Now, I can happily cheer for the ordinary girl. But, ouch, I like the character or whatever little was revealed about her. It offers possibilities. And I’m at the point where I need something to improve my lowering admiration for Kdrama.

But then CH starts airing and the story is unfolding:

Let me tell you this, it doesn’t matter that I know Kdrama so well that I understand what it means when the ordinary girl comes first on screen meeting her prince charming and getting so many shots with him! IT DOESN’T MATTER THAT PSY IS THE PUBLISHER! The publisher has come into being with a character/personality beyond my expectation. The way she interacts with the author is so captivating. The ordinary girl may get a lot of screen time with her guy, but the publisher has something else with the author, something which I’ve never seen before, something which makes my poor heart beats faster. I’m captured and become a helpless prisoner who champion their cause and happy ending. I think this is the highest complement I could give to all who are involved in CH (the director, writers, actors/acresses).... particularly PSY.

I’m willing to risk my fragile heart for EUNSOO’s happy endings and a new legendary couple on the making.

And like you said Kay, there’s no right or wrong here. It’s just another case of personal taste and preference....

Hehe Dear Kay ^=^, we really isn't same line at all LOL really like you said to me in Soompi. We are completely opposite and well that ok for me because it's give me some amical fun between two person who analyses.

If you read from the page 50 something to 120 from Soompi, did you find something like i don't like EY characters? ^^ It's just you seem also tell me that i can't see the possibility that can be EY/JS become a couple o.o
I did write and all a time write...if the plot make EY/JS become a couple. That ok and i do accept that ^^. But if the plot is make SY/JS a couple, would you EY/JS shippers accept that? Just after i read in SOOMPI like about a rumor Eun Jung request a make-up scene like from episode 8, did you read some comments? ^^
if you read interline from the comment is said ''make me sick'' or get me some pills....it's so disgusting for you all SY/JS couple may have also a kiss o.o
I repeat myself like i keep repeat in soompi. I find the kiss is hot between EY/JS but also a bit hop to hop. Also i was explain about this scene because it's seem irreal....Just like that EY appear in the rain, and ask JS what he want ..and kiss him ^^..Do you also think is seem like ..too fast o.o It's could be for JW see it or nobody see it or like i said right now a paparazi see it..... post in newspapers ... Again all are a speculation and i do write speculation each time. Or maybe my speculation seem so true that hurt some of you o.O ...sorry then ..i didn't mean it.

A bit personal ^^...nope i'm not hehe
Just because this serie isn't like other serie i watch make me feel lost o.o
I do defend and protect all a time for SY/JS couple in SOOMPI because EY/JS are too strong overthere. So maybe my comment seem a bit personal....
But imagine .....
A cute red first into a shark ....^^ see what i want to tell you....the little red first need to fight in the shark....and defend himself
In soompi, maybe is the only one big forum where we have a strong EY/JS shippers....From facebook and others ...SY/JS shippers is do have more shippers....
I do ask my friends to watch Coffee House and the views ...they are also a dramafanatics some or some never watching a drama ....

The result is plausible ^^ but i can't said who they ship because .....well ^+^

But in Soompi, for to be SY/JS representant....i must attack with my sword ^^ so with my speculation, analyse and imagination. Why are EY/JS seem to be so emotionaly instable with my post o.o should i stop to post in soompi that o.o and post somewhere else ^^

Dear, i do have proofs when i said something in soompi...isn't all my imagination.
Did you read all them and agree with some? Or you just said nope EY can't act like that ...that just mia-chan imagination. I also can see the vibe between EY/JS and I also write that i do sense it. How come me a SY/JS shippers can also see the vibe for EY/JS shipper? It's just simply i do see....all lines we have for CH serie...how come EY/JS shippers can't see any ...1% vibe from SY/JS in soompi o.o. Again not all EY/JS cannot see the vive ..but some in Soompi do see some vibe from SY/JS....

Unfair for T-ara supporters support EunJung? hm...dunno o.o i'm not fans of them at all o.o but i do like the song from them ^^ . I do agree with you yes about is unfair if fans just choose EunJung because she the leader from T-ara and don't give a credit to EY. Yes completely agree ^^
But in Soompi, most of SY shipper there don't know who is T-ara o.o well most my fellow who post in Soompi...and only like the characters SY ^^ like myself ...
She just too much mimi ^^ and do like her acting

please be open-minded with all the possibilities ...but Kay-chan o.O I do ....
I see a lot possibilities but that true i do see only for SY/JS couple.... Kay-chan ....with what you write in Soompi ^^ you also see only EY/JS couple possibilities so we are safe right now ^^ I do also said, I never like PSY like actress from ''My Girl'' ...i'm still in a same position BUT I LIKE EY character
when she funny ^^. For to be a lover for laughing ....i do laugh a lot with EY scene....If she enter in melodrame scene ...let's see if she can convince me ^^ that ok ...i do like when she cry in the serie ...good acting ^^. Also EunJung characters can also have some problem acting in Coffee House ...i do see it. But the funny scene and her silly expression make me her shipper ^^

Yes!! that really great to reply and post to everyone around the world. Coffee House do attract all nationality and that pretty fun to post it.
Also yes ^^ i do see EunSoo nickname ^^ cute name ..
I thought is was Jin Young o.o well maybe EunSoo is more cute for to represent you all ^^

Also, we really didn't lost a time to analyse analyse and analyse ^^ both a shippers clan ...that really great ^^..so will 2 more weeks is enought for us to analyses...hehe ^^

We did think for any cute name for SY/JS couple o.o
But i don't have a lot a time to search for everyday ...i run after time so if i can reply ...i would ...if not i will wait ^^

Let's enjoy COFFEE HOUSE all together ^^

Miaka-chan

run to sleep .....^^ bonne nuit tout le monde

In the last couple days, I have read so many insights and analysises about EunSoo. They are so deep, detail and brilliant that I was speechless....
Your is one of them ^^

It's funny ...
The more we dig in, the more I love EunSoo.
Like you said, I hope the PD and writter will take risk to make them become a new legenary couple ^^

@ Miaka-chan :
I said wat I need to be said
After many times post and reply, I figured if we continued, it' wouldnt go anywhere becuase we speake different languages :
I speak EunSoo and you speak JS-SY
I anaylyze in facts and but you use speculations all the time ( and we are not hurt, but it's ... just inefficient and useless for me)
I hope the story will go as charaters develop but you d 'rather compare and expect it'd turn out another Full House or something else...
And many other things ....

We are like 2 parallel lines that never meet at 1 point to agreement, just because we dont share the same value and expectation. So let's stop here !

However, you should know that we respect you and what you believe so please continue to do as you please and dont take think too personal.
We are strong woman so we fight hard for what we believe in and you cant hurt us so dont worry
But I do hope that you dont blame us for things that we dont do ( as you tend come to conclusions without confirming it ) and things that both ships do ( as you complaint above- SY ship does the same or even ruder-if you see it in viikii)

Take care
Peace

@44 pipit

My heart beats faster while reading your post. Love it very much.
Couldn't agree more:
"It’s going to be a decisive EUNSOO."

Kay-chan yes let stop here ^^, we are pretty stubborn and strong woman for our analyses so if we continue, isn't good at all.
Again, we do speak different language like you said for shipping, so we never be agree for each other opinion. So I will stop also here ! until episode 28 ^^
I was worry about maybe i did hurt EY/JS shippers with my analyses and speculations but you said to me i don't need to worry so it's ok then ^^

About in Viikii, i just use my account and post and wow it's pretty hard overthere o.o
Just a question dear, are you kayt84 from Viikii?
If yes, sorry about the misunstanding we have again over there, that seem make you really mad. I will delete the comment overthere like you want i delete.

If no you are not kayt84: well ^^ forget it.

Maybe you think i take too much important for defend SY/JS couple. But i must to said ...i have too much drama and other serie too watch o.o i can't stay to post all a time until June 28. Also i don't post too much right now consider how many post i post in soompi before. I do post some in Viikii right now for 2 days. You should also take a less important for Coffee House until ep 9 ^^ That only my suggestion. I would not stay in the tread Coffee House Soompi until the next episode ^^ I will post but it's take time ^^

Into a chinese serie THREE KINGDOMS, Lakorns + others series.
You should do a same Kay-chan until June 28 ^^, i suggest you like a recommendation. Watch other things and it's make little bit far away from Coffe House until June 28 [or maybe 22 it's seem now ...].

Currently, i watch King of Baker ^^ good serie but how long the reals characters enter, seem to be until episode 7.

Also PEACE ^^
and take care.

Miaka-chan
