Good morning, everyone! Stayed up until 3 am, reading Twitter feed about Jay Park's return to Korea, then watching fancams and reading reports as they rolled in. Reports of up to 5,000 people at the airport, 100s of security...nothing is ever dull, where Jay is concerned! I hope his career can really take off now.

Love Letter is my #1 tearjerker. There's almost no comedy relief. The plot is unusual as it involves a priest as part of a love triangle.

Aaaaah finally, I could rest at home the whole time...
And Of course, World Cup fever is also haunting me and my family, not mentioning my friends yet..
I'm really waiting for my girlfriend is a gumiho to be launched as fast as possible. It looks like an interesting drama and the casts are also lovely :D FIGHTING HONG SISTER!
I woke up at 4:30 AM PST this morning to watch the Germany-Serbia match only to end up heart-broken with a 1-0 Serbia win. Stupid ref...handing out yellow cards like little candies. AND...watched the USA-Slovenia match and I must admit, didn't think USA was much of a team (although I'm an American) and wasn't really looking at them for a win, but that ref blatantly stole that last goal from the Americans.
I am soooo pissed and it's only 10 AM PST. Come on FIFA....how the heck did you screen these morons!?
Saw Que Sera Sera just for Eric. And that had some comedy in it. He is a nice thing to look at. He back from military this year right? And Flowers for my life I have not seen yet so I will add that too. Thanks.
@Lumi
"Attic Cat" was seen for Kim Rae Won and I liked it for the light fluffies it gave me. "Bad Family" was fun but I kept getting distracted while watching it so it took me forever to finish it. "We are Dating Now" I also saw and agree the second couple story line is much more interesting. Without them I would have slapped the main chick several times for being sooo slow on the uptake. Super Rookie and Vineyard Man I will look into.
The historical ones I believe are already in my netflix so I will see them before the end of summer:)
As for Mike He and Devil Beside You. Yes I am aware and lust regularly at that alter. I find Bullfighting is good for that fix.
Happy Aloha Friday OTer's!!!!! So many new names here....new faces.
Also HAPPY FATHERS DAY to all the ahjussi's; appa's; aboji's; haraboji's....oh...I think it's also oppa's...... :-) Treat them with love and special care!

So, everyone who wouldn't watch Athena you can now set your dials.
That said, I am looking forward to World Cup to be over....I am anxiously waiting
for Bad Guy to return! on the flipside I am enjoying Coffee House...it's a go....
The lights are out, the door's closed, the eggs are cooling, the butter's getting hard, and the Jello is jiggling!!!! So, when is the parade?!? Chick baby!
Hope everyone is having a great day and may your week end be spectacular!!!
We was robbed! Robbed I tell you! I just watched a bunch of replays of that - and we was robbed...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCWMYHh9GZA
GAH! So..2 ties for us. So, we have 2 points, Slovenia has 4, hmmmm - I think we have to root for Algeria to beat or tie England, and then beat Algeria. That rots - depending on another game to advance is no fun.
Sigh. I will take solace in watching today's Yankee-kun.
Just wondering ... where's Samsooki? I used to enjoy reading his rants, wit, criticism, and comments. I hope that he and his family are well and that he has just found a life outside of Dramabeans.
Happy Friday!! Happy early Father's Day to all the daddies, granddaddies, uncles, brothers, hubbies!! My family is having a Father's Day picnic tomorrow in honor of our Uncle (cuz he's the only daddy we gots now). I refuse to acknowledge it as honoring of the husbands of the family because they are buttheads. ha!
bring on the tug of war!! i am warrior princess w/ attitude. gonna kick all ur butts! (or pull them into the dung).
didn't have to commit to a 2yr contract w/ satellite for the hubs to watch WC games. thank goodness!! thank you to whoever it was that put up the link to espn3 that allowed him to watch it online. (momosan, i think??) I THANK YOUS!!!
USA made a comeback in the 2nd half vs SVN, and I strongly believe USA shoulda WON that game. Darn ref (!), that 3rd goal point was GOOD and a fair point. Argh~
@ 10 maria, 7 marissa
Ohhhh, same here! I watched FRA vs MEX on Teledoce HD. I like the announcers more better on Teledoce than ESPN, although I have to admit ESPN is learning well on how to choose better personalities for WC coverage. Y"day's games [WC and NBA finals] got my whole block going crazy. That was fun! My family was neutral on FRA vs MEX match 'cos we have family in FRA and my father has a close buddy from MEX [he was here watching the games w/ my pops, trying again to persuade my pops to choose sides... it didn't happen] plus my sister's in-laws are from MEX n' El Salvador. My parents and I simply want to enjoy a good will game, and now we witness for the FIRST time MEX defeat FRA at all WC history. So you know how MEX were a little more passionate about y"day's game... just a li'l. ^___^ Gawd, the camera man who shot the very end of that WC match is a genius, my heart sank a li'l for those depressing French fans in the stands and my spirit uplift for those celebrating Mexican fans. Whereas the Lakers vs Celtics, my family was not surprised about the outcome,but our neighbors were more entertaining rooting for LAL. Sorry, no BOS fans on my block, although I commend for their talented efforts. My family were more concerned about the aftermath of fans raiding the streets of downtown LA. Oy vay!
Who watched 100613 Dream Team on KBS2? It was too funny. My family and friends enjoyed that episode a whole lot. The foosball-esque game was totally hilarious watching SuJu vs DT. Gawd, it makes me want to build a replica to play w/ my groups of friends. It's funny seeing how well some pride was hurt.
Have a restful wkend, and a fun summer folks! Remember, lube on the sunscreen for protection. ~ , ^
I would suggest rewatching BD over WS. I'm biased, but all the Sang-hyuk shit in the second half of WS is impossible to stomach again. Whereas the second half of BD had weepy leukemia but at least LBH and CJW got together. And RSW did not act like a moronic douche like Sang-hyuk did. (btw, I also did not like Park Yon-ha, until I watched him in On Air - he was awesome in that middling drama).
You all know how much I adore SSH, but Summer Scent? He looked AWFUL, face cute, hair NOT. The orange, permed monstrosity was so bad it nearly derailed my eyeballs each time he came on scene. Agree that SYJ in SS was much much much prettier than still-gots-the-baby-fat SHK in AIHM, and looked better as a couple with SSH. But SSH's hairstyle in SS has got to be hands down, one of the worst, if not THE worst hairstyle on a main guy.
Storywise I thought SS was draggy, but it sure was pretty (totally the same vibe with Spring Waltz).
Hey guys, people keep asking about samsooki, but I personally don't know where he is, but I don't think keep asking would make him sudden pop back up. Of course, he'll sudden pop up back and I'll eat my words. so be it. :-D
Man, I forgot how long of a grind 114-game season can be. I can finally take a real breath since the playoffs started. Last night I felt like I was 12 again watching Magic beat Bird at the Forum. Sweet....so sweet.
@ diadda
I personally enjoyed My Sister in Law is 19, it's a melodrama but Yoon Kye-sang was singlehandedly the best thing about the show (and its good music).
For oldies pre-2005 just to pass the time - I like Only You (such an easy watch).
Gosh, so disappointed about the match between germany and serbia
damn ref! hello was it 9 yellow cards!?!? My Klose...
gaaawd >___< germany just HAS to win against Ghana...sigh
i usually don't like football but every time there is a world cup i'm caught in a world cup fever :D hehe
but still...suffering from coffee house withdrawal...I want my EY and JS back
what a tiring week...
only you.. is that the cooking drama in italy or whereever?? if so, i watched all of it, but it really really pissed me off. i don't even remember why.. just that i disliked it.
i myself have a BYJ bias, so i would watch WS over BD (i had watched BD before i even knew who LBH was--and only did so because of RSW!) but i don't think i ever finished BD. maybe now i should go back and give it a try... since LBH>RSW now (for me anyway).
Are there any dramas recommended?
I can't finish any dramas recently. Is it just me or I feel like dramas are at the down-side right now?
Many long list of dramas I didn't finish.(IRIS,Will it snow, Personal Taste, Cinderella's sister, Smile You, You're beautiful,................)
Nothing excited for me to watch anymore. Last drama I almost finished was Queen Seon Deok and I skipped a lot in the middle of the drama.
So bored. = =" Guys any suggestion???????
Haha, yes. The Spanish-speaking announcers are awesome, haha.
@ momosan
The ref was totally cracking when he cut that goal. Not cool, but he seemed like a real fun guy when he called out the misconducts! Dude was all smiles passing the yellow card too...
Aaaah, I've never been more relieved to have a couple reunite than in episode 10 of "Delightful Girl Choon-hyang"!!!! Seriously, I always talk to characters in movies and series, but this time my frustration peaked, really, and I was actually crying out of frustration when there was yet another problem contrived by Han-bok or Chae-rin, so I just grinned mindlessly at my screen at the ending of this episode! If they had kept them apart for even one minute longer, I would have lost my mind and stopped watching, I think, or at least something like that XD I was getting mad at Choon-hyang too, but luckily, luckily it turned out to be this way! Argh, now I can go to sleep peacefully, I think, I really feel so relieved!!! Which might seem weird to some, as it's only fiction, etc., but somehow I really get into it every time, and feel so close to the main characters, and sigh. But oh well, I don't care =D I was just telling my screen, the characters and the script writers over and over (they don't usually listen to me) that this better work out, and it did!!! Well, I know it's not because they listened to me, that's for sure XD I might as well be an ant.
Coulibaly's call was a travesty, but I was glad the US gave us a good game.
England is stinking up the first half against Algeria! Yes!
It really pained me to see S. Korea lose by a margin of 3 to Argentina. We're in a precarious place and tied with Greece in goal differentials. Argentina might not put much effort into the game against Greece, now that they're pretty much a lock for the round of 16. 대한민국!
Usually it's the pattern of the dramas that starts to get to me. Boy with emotional hangup meets spunky girl who fixes emotional hangup. Of course with optional and often interfering secondary relationships. The repetition can start to get to anybody after a while. How about When it's at Night, or Love Shuffle. Both have decent writing and less formula. You can also go down into wuxia territory and watch people fly around with swords while spouting "I love you"s
Skipping dramas for a while and going down the movie lane also an option.
@soulbee
Jai-yeon-to? Yes, yes, over here.
If you feel the need to discuss anything about it do drop a comment here on OT, there are a couple of us currently watching it, will be fun to discuss.
@epyc
3-iron is another one of my fave kmovies, Jae Hee was all shades of awesome in it.
Funnily enough, from the four season dramas, I loved the two failures the best: Spring Waltz first, closely followed by Summer Scent (haha, orange hair! I agree ockoala, the hair was awful but I liked the face).
They're not the best dramas out there but from out those four I liked them two. I concede about their prettiness, but aside from that the highlight from Spring Waltz was the story, and in particular the childhood portion.
The OBGYN finale was quite the surprise really, although it still manipulated me enough to make me cry like a snotty kid, the writer's usual episodic short stories were much more real. Still it fit the happier tone of the last episode and it was done well enough so I can live with that.
Love old-school kdrama, will always have a special place in my heart for Attic Cat and All In.
Last four episodes of SBDH tonight, I'm in need of something comforting too, so it's perfect. :)
From the leads in Autumn -- I had a Eun-sung-aah bias back then so it was SSH. If I was to watch it now (which I won't, ever) I'd ship WB with SHK all the way.
damn it, today's matches are a BIG disappointment! germany freakin LOST. GERMANY LOST~! poor klose =( i am so pissed. and then next match is a tie, then algeria and england tie, ALGERIA WHY DIDNT YOU EVER ATTACK DAMMIT?! i was on my nerves the whole time, such a nervewracking match (im libyan so algeria are my neighbors so gotta cheer for our brothers), now we HAVE to beat the USA to have a chance of qualifying (sorry to the americans here). and god, what has happend to england? really, they have put the whole english country to shame. They have said themselves that algeria are no match to them then they tie? poor beckham was swearing his head off. But why were the english ppl so rude? swearing and stuff? its so unprofessional.
damn this world cup fever, can't do anything these days other than watch!
Happy Friday everyone...ive noticed that OT has gotten awfully quiet these last 3 weeks...OT'ers must be wid xams, summer preparations and WC fever....good luck to all of you!....Happy fathers day all u abheojis and harabeojis out there!!
Whew! What a hot friday! And i took an extra walk around the block to avoid running into my neighbor while coming home from work. He's sort of like a father figure has been bugging me to fill out these apps for these jobs that I'm nowhere qualified for and it's pretty hard to explain how job-hunting works nowaday.
@32 dixa
maybe you need a drama with a different sort of pace/formula. Maybe you should try Romance Zero. The main male lead gets demoted to a really unsuccessful team at this matchmaking company. Most of the characters are a bit take-em-or-leave-em but they can be pretty hilarious (like this guy from the band, T-Max who plays the goofy villain who just can't win). You don't just focus on the main cast's romantic storylines (actual the romantic storylines for the main cast is pretty minimal), but on the clients. I'm in a bit of a kdrama slump right now too, mostly because my mom's a new kdrama addict and kdramas are playing through my thin walls most of the day. I'm takiing a break and am watching an awesome jdrama now, Yankee-kun to Megane-chan. It's about a delinquent named Shinagawa and a former-delinquent-but-now-student-president named Hana. The music, feel, and script for this drama are just so amazing. Makes me laugh and tear up every week.
I am probably the only person in the world who isn't following on the World Cup. I was pretty into it back in 2006...but this year I just can't watch it without falling asleep.
Anyways, happy father's day to any fathers here on the thread!
Only You was one of the first dramas I bought and was very disppointed. I tried rewatching it after liking Jo Hae on The Ballad of Suh Dong aka Potato Boy, but still felt the same way.
I watched BD for RSW and I still like him, even though Style was a big disappointment..
@ diadda
Here are other suggestions of light dramas and romcoms:
Sweet 18
18 vs 29
Lawyers of Korea
What Are You Doing in My House? (with Kim Ji Hoon)
Mis Kim's Billion Won Quest
The Legend of Hyang Dan (2 episodes long)
Oh My Lady
Who Are You?
I took a long hiatus from drama watching and have recently started to watch dramas again. During that break, I watched a lot of family friendly k-variety and network reality shows like Family Outing First Season, We Got Married, Invincible Youth, Good Daddies, and Mnet programs with SS501, Super Junior, Shinee and other idols on youtube. Youtube has deleted many of these shows, but you can still find some on veoh.com and dailymotion.
been busy pretending to work instead of trying o read all these open threads and drama updates lately, but had to put in my 2cents about SSH in SS. I loved that drama, especially the ending with the umbrella, but SSH's eyebrows more so than his orange pouffy hair distracted me. In fact, my drama watching buddy and I just called him "Brows" until we learned his name!
What Are You Doing in My House? (with Kim Ji Hoon)
Mis Kim’s Billion Won Quest
The rest and the variety programs too I have seen and enjoyed. Spending most of my time trying to learn korean so as much total emersion as I can get with dramas and TV. Going through Happy Together. I did enjoy Heroine 6, Love Letter(variety) and X-man as well.
So a cat that used to live in my place (moved out with it's owner to a new place nearby) has gone missing this afternoon. What. The. >:( It's like when it rains it pours. Now I'm missing two cats. I have such Friday rage.
@janna,
OMYGOSH, poor poor poor babe. *hug* *sigh* seriously cats have a mind of their own, if they want to lead a diff life, maybe u just have to let them be.
@wabbit,
lol 'brows' I was just enlightened by twitter buds that I have a distaste for thick brows, SSH is beyond beautiful w/ his features and I know why I find him more pretty w/ his sunglasses on.
I do not like BD, WS (SS...), Attic Cat, All In.... I was a Kdrama hater. *hide*
@supah,
diff strokes, gf. That pic still reeks SLEAZE to me. *hide deepr* I guess for me KNG is trying too darn hard to be sexy bastard when he IS one if he didnt think too much. he can carry a pornstache better than most, dun get me wrong, but I just plain hate pornstache, more than I hate thick brows, I guess.
3 Iron is one of my fav K movie. I will forever love JH for that, even if he was in Witch YH and I watched 10 painful eps (ok first 5 were cute) for him.
WC rants: my 2 cents on y England sux, and as a fangirl I'd rather they not advance.
England o England, I dont mind the rudeness and rowdiness, they r English fans for gawd sakes, and they r on a diff planet than the dandy gentlemen they may usu r. This quote always give me a snarky grin on my face: Rugby is a beastly game played by gentlemen; soccer is a gentleman's game played by beasts; football is a beastly game played by beasts. - Henry Blaha. and since I'm biased towards 'soccer'( will always be football to me) at least the beasts playing football can transform to gentlemen ever so briefly if they respect the game (wishful thinking)?!
England is immensely frustrating a team to watch because they are not bloody awful like the French, Rooney is playing at a diff gear than rest of the team, I'm not saying Rooney is OMFGamazing (that would be any Argentinian striker), but the disconnect is JARRING. either they transplant the rest of the team, or transplant Rooney. Or else, it's a very unhappy trainwrecky marriage I'm cringing hard to watch.

TGIF peeps!

@ epyc (from last OT)
For oldies pre-2005 just to pass the time - I like Only You (such an easy watch).

only you.. is that the cooking drama in italy or whereever?? if so, i watched all of it, but it really really pissed me off. i don't even remember why.. just that i disliked it.
i myself have a BYJ bias, so i would watch WS over BD (i had watched BD before i even knew who LBH was--and only did so because of RSW!) but i don't think i ever finished BD. maybe now i should go back and give it a try... since LBH>RSW now (for me anyway).

Wow, that's a whole lot of different kind of dramas, too. How about a j-dorama? They usually run 10 or so episodes, so there isn't as much investment.
Or one of the shorter but truly great sagueks - Damo or Eight Days?

Definitely a step up from SJS's attempt in MiSa, and SSH in EoE.

They have said themselves that algeria are no match to them then they tie? poor beckham was swearing his head off. But why were the english ppl so rude? swearing and stuff? its so unprofessional.

@32 dixa
maybe you need a drama with a different sort of pace/formula.

OMYGOSH, poor poor poor babe. *hug* *sigh* seriously cats have a mind of their own, if they want to lead a diff life, maybe u just have to let them be.
@wabbit,
lol 'brows' I was just enlightened by twitter buds that I have a distaste for thick brows, SSH is beyond beautiful w/ his features and I know why I find him more pretty w/ his sunglasses on.
I do not like BD, WS (SS...), Attic Cat, All In.... I was a Kdrama hater. *hide*
@supah,
diff strokes, gf.
