Park Yong-ha discovered dead at home

Breaking news: Park Yong-ha was discovered dead at his Nonhyun-dong, Seoul, home on the morning of June 30. I’ll update with details if/as they become available.
I am in utter shock. WHAT?
Park Yong-ha died at the age of 32, having debuted fifteen years ago in youth shows like KBS’s 1995 Love Blossoms in the Classroom and 1996’s Start. He shot to fame with 2002’s Winter Sonata, which made him a household name and a “Hallyu star.” He used that fame as a springboard a singing career in Japan, where he enjoyed quite a lot of popularity. He had a successful drama hit in 2008’s On Air, and totally stole my heart in 2009’s Story of a Man, which is one of my favorite dramas EVER.
Most recently, Park Yong-ha was cast alongside Yoon Eun-hye in the high-profile drama remake of Hong Kong film Tian Mi Mi, tentatively titled Love Song.
This is just… awful. Horrible and unexpected. Currently they are not ruling this a suicide, but that’s the foremost presumption.
UPDATE
- The evening prior to his death (29th), Park missed a meeting with drama producers for his upcoming project Love Song. His manager couldn’t get in contact with him.
- One producer said that they had seen Park occasionally in a down mood, but attributed it to news of Park’s father suffering from cancer. His father recently moved back home from the hospital after his stomach cancer was deemed late-stage.
- Park reportedly died from hanging. He was found by his mother in his room with a cell phone cord around his neck.
- Around 12:40 am, he was with his father, massaging his father’s legs. Park told him “I’m sorry” over and over. He then went into his room, where he was found in the morning.
- Producers of Love Song are “in panic mode” because Park’s passing leaves them without a lead. Yeah, eff you producers.
- Park had said in an interview that he suffered from depression, which was exacerbated by prolonged promotional activities abroad.
- One friend says, “There’s no way to know the real reason, but when I met Park a few months ago, he seemed depressed.” His father’s illness made things worse.
- Park’s Story of a Man co-star Park Shi-yeon (currently acting in Coffee House) reportedly received a “huge shock” from the news and “is in very bad condition.” She is so distraught that there’s concern she won’t be able to continue filming.
- Park Shi-yeon spoke with Park on the phone yesterday, but thought he sounded normal.
- And the media frenzy begins. That photo is from outside Park’s home.
- The parade of celebrity visits is also just beginning, with stars coming to pay their respects to Park, whose body was transferred to a Kangnam hospital. It’s morning in Korea now, and this will likely continue all day. I won’t be posting on it, but you can rest assured there’ll be plenty of media there as well.
- His death is even more perplexing because he had made plans to meet friends later in the day.
- Park’s last phone call (or one of his last) was reportedly with DBSK’s Hero Jaejoong, with whom he’d grown closer as he gave the latter advice about pursuing singer activities in Japan. Jaejoong is currently recording in the U.S. and said, “I spoke with him on the phone yesterday, and his voice sounded so bright. I didn’t feel he was at all different from his normal self. We agreed to have a drink together when I got back to Korea. I’m in such shock.”
- Park’s last twitter message was posted Saturday the 26th (http://twitter.com/yonaaaaaa) and was about the World Cup. “We lost. But they did well. clap clap clap~ Everyone, let’s clap with warm hears for our national soccer team, who return with heavy steps. Good job!!”
- Park had just come back from a tour in Japan. The day before that (the 25th), he tweeted, “How could they know to come to the airport and see me, and at such a late hour? ^^ I didn’t tell anyone but how could they know? keke. Impressive~ Anyway, thank you for coming to see me!! Tomorrow at the concert I’ll have to ask, ‘Who came to the airport yesterday?~~’ keke See you tomorrow ^^”
- In an interview last year while promoting his movie The Scam, Park said, “I’ve suffered from insomnia for the last ten years. I’m rather sensitive. If something bothers me I can’t sleep until it’s resolved.” He added, “I’m envious of people who can sleep well. I think sleep is needed for good mental health.”

omgosh, this was totally unexpected.
i totally thought this was a joke relating to his role in Love Song.
i've no idea what to say right now .. i don't understand why he would commit suicide when he just signed onto a role.

I just finished watching Wish Upon a Star...and again, someone commits suicide in a drama....as a way out, as the most 'noble' way to die, to make everything right again..it's crazy!! This needs to change...people get so easily influenced by media, but the drama writers dont seem to get this...

OMG when i first saw this ..i hoped it was a false report. I love him so much. He's such a great actor. He had such a good career too. Depression can really do alot to a person. OMG this is so sad

i just saw this on the news, and came over to this site... i literally gasped. i saw him first in 보고 또 보고 as kim ji soo's younger brother, and most recently in on air and a man's story, both dramas which i loved. such a shock

Speechless.....what can I say....sometimes I really wonder if I should say I'm sorry or not...I mean seriously....SUICIDE? Is it really something you can think of.... I think Korea should teach young kids what to do with depression when they grow up!
I know there's a lot of people who can't look up to those who commit suicide, and sometimes I can't either....but the shock just makes everything wearoff...
RIP PYH, you were a great actor, who had so much to offer -but you gave yourself to little time.

I am shocked and in tears. I loved him in Story of Man.
He's so young and talented and...OMG I really can't believe it.
May god bless his soul. May his family, friends, and anyone who knew or cared about him get through this and know that he is now free and in a better place, and is now a guardian angel that watches over them all.

I'm in shock!
He is so young, so talent, he was doing fine on his acting and singing career not only in korea but also in Japan and the last time I saw an interview with him he looked happy.
I'm a big fan of him, just today I was listening to one of his songs and thinking about his new drama project...

Oh my God, that poor woman. I pray that she has friends and family that will be there for her. There's nothing anyone can say or do for her, but I honestly hope the woman can cope with it.
I hope his fans will take the time to send a few kind words to her cause the woman will really need those in the days and months to come.

This is very disturbing news.
I think he couldn't stand seeing his father in so much pain & decided to take his own life before seeing his father go.
I nearly cried when I read that he massaged his father's legs. So touching. D: you rarely see such sincere celebrities these days.
& boy am I having a fit over the producers' reactions. A precious life has been lost and all they care about is finding a person to replace him? I'm utterly disgusted.
It's such a shame that it had to end so tragically. I wish he had a happier ending :(

seriously i'm trembling.
i just wrote on livejournal about the dream i had this night about suicide and i got the awful feeling about it all day.

this is a very depressing and shocking news! I had to make sure that I did not read your post wrong. I was totally looking forward to his new project with YEH just a few days ago and now this sad news! What is happening in Korea. There should be increased awareness in Korea of the signs and symptoms of depression so that friends and families will know how to deal with their depressed loved ones.

oh my god, that came out of NOWHERE. I was really fond of this actor and since i remember him mostly as the pitiful chracter in story of man, it makes me more sad becuse that's the only drma i've seen him in and i won't get to see him in a happier role. wow. i can't get over it my mouth dropped so low when read that news.

Omg! I saw this on allkpop and almost started crying. This is so unexpected. I've been watching him since winter sonata and I was 10 at the time? This is heatbreaking. I feel so bad for people with depression. My best wishes go out to his family and friends. And love song will def hit a hault-but I'm not really concerned about that right now. That's really sad ;(

I am in complete shock too! I thought this was going to be one of those "gotcha" headlines, but it's true? Oh man. I hope his family and friends are doing ok...how terrible for his mother who has to deal with losing a son and soon losing her husband, my heart goes out to her.

dont even know what to say......this is so bad....cnt believe i ws so xcited to see him and YEH together in a drama just 2 days ago...bt that doesnt even matter right now...i cnt believe it...... im actually crying right now...this is just horrible horrible horrible!....i promised myself i wont say this out loud anywhere because thats not what matters when you hear something like this for the first time....bt why the hell does this keep happening to so may korean celebs...so many of my favourite actors!?!.....i just dont get it...I shall miss you PYH!!...May you soul rest in peace and also my deepest condolences to your family....my prayers shall be with you and them

RIP...
I was sooo looking forward to Park Yong Ha's future work. I really enjoyed his performances in Story of A Man and On Air. I just finished watching Story of A Man early this morning. Such a coincidence that the same day I finished his drama, he died. I thought he seemed outgoing and fun from watching the bts and interviews. This is such a shock. He will surely be missed.

Biggest shock I've had in a while (Kdrama news or otherwise)...Only 32 years old! What a horrible event...sorry for him, sorry for his family...and sorry for all the fans who'll miss him a lot. He really impressed me in Story of a Man, one of the best dramas I've seen... I can well imagine that PSY is distraught. Feel for her. And no one saw this coming? Doesn't anyone in their surrounding entourages pay attention to these stars and how they might be feeling? (Producers in panic mode??? That's how much they care... )
