Sung Dong-il, Gong Hyung-jin, Jo Hee-bong
Three familiar faces from Chuno will be back for the writer-director pair’s new drama Runaway, adding some solid talent to the supporting cast. In Chuno, Sung Dong-il had played the slightly unhinged slave hunter Jin-ho, Gong Hyung-jin played escaped slave Up-bong, and Jo Hee-bong was Kkeut-bong.
In Runaway, Sung Dong-il again shows off his sly side, this time as a Korean-Japanese gyopo who is a wily private eye named Nakamura Hwang. (He’ll be pulling double-duty, since he’s also been cast in a comic role for My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho, which will also air in the fall.) Gong Hyung-jin plays Rain’s supporter in China, Master Jang. Jo Hee-bong (whom I’ll always remember for doing crazy so convincingly as Hong Gil Dong‘s king) plays a cool-headed private detective named James based in Vietnam and Thailand. All three actors have built their characters playing memorable, often quirky, supporting roles, and chances are good they’ll be doing the same here.
Furthermore, Han Jung-soo (General Choi) is also reportedly signed on for a Runaway cameo.
The drama features a slew of name actors in its main cast with Rain, Lee Na-young, Daniel Henney, Lee Jung-jin, and Yoon Jin-seo onboard. It will air in late September.

Okay, I am officially onboard for this one at least for the first 3 epis.
The other eye candy was not enough draw, but these guyz…..hell ya!
Wow the cast is ridiculously big! Sounds fun
runaway for fall
athena for fall too right
so r they gonna be in competition, if yes, it’s ridiculously.
dangg – runaway is definitely upping the ante with all these guest stars.
but even if you have a good cast, it doesn’t mean the script is good… anyways – WHEE! might check it out for han jung soo and daniel henney – i’m a weakling for men that are easy on the eyes…
PD Kwak is well known for his close knit with all his actors, actresses, and usually he will ask them to join his new production whenever possible-a very very friendy and talented director. From what I saw BTS, most of them really enjoy working with him.
I was beginning to wonder if any of the Chuno peeps were going to join Runaway so this is great news! Anyways, Gong Hyung jin really stole the Chuno finale, I thought his scene was the best.
I have to admit that at the beginning I could’ve cared less about this drama as a whole. However, the more I see who is being added to the cast outside of Bi, I think I really will give this drama a “real” chase.
JO HEE BONG.
OMGGGGGGGG.
exciting!!
This was already on my watch list, but I can’t WAIT to see him again!
It’s kinda funny how I’m looking forward to Jo Hee Bong more than Rain, haha.
Well, I look forward to BOTH. ^^
“Chuno” was the 1st serious role I had seen Gong Hyung-jin play and I was impressed.
I actually liked Ahn Kil Kang’s portrayal of the bandit chief better than Sung Dong-il’s portrayal of the chief of unruly slave hunters (relied too much on that exaggerated laugh).
LOL. XD
I saw Jo Heebong’s picture and was like “…he looks familiar….”
“THE CRAZY KING IN HGD!!”
He has the same facial expression he has most of that drama in that picture. LOL.
I’ll be looking forward to this. I’m a big fan of Sung Dongil and Gong Hyungjin.
Thanks!
Oh gosh, what a interesting casts are! (chuckles)
I can’t imagine that they will able to get into Runaway drama and it should be excited to see this drama in fall, lolz. Ah…..it’s same thing as other incoming drama “Athena” too!
Ohh……I don’t mind that I’d watch “Athena” what it look like in the beginning cuz’ I am just curiously, lolz. ^_________^
If only there was no Daniel Henney I would be more excited, but maybe even he will surprise us in this show. At least with Kwak as PD we know it will be visually exciting! Looking forward to seeing how this one turns out.
