Yoon Eun-hye makes drama comeback in Love Song

Whoa, I was NOT expecting this, but I think I like it: Yoon Eun-hye has been cast in upcoming drama series Love Song, the remake of the epic Hong Kong romance Tian Mi Mi (Comrades: Almost a Love Story). The original 1996 film spanned ten years and starred Leon Lai and Maggie Cheung.

The drama series has already cast its lead male in Park Yong-ha, which makes this a high-profile pairing. I’d heard that the drama was looking for two big Hallyu names to expand on its international appeal, and with these two, they’ve certainly got that punch. Park is one of those actors who is probably, comparatively speaking, more famous abroad as a “Hallyu star” than he is at home, thanks to hits like Winter Sonata and On Air. And Yoon Eun-hye is just about the biggest name actress of her age range, both at home and abroad.

In Love Song, Yoon plays Yoo Chae-hwa, a hard-working woman who comes to live in Korea from China. Chae-hwa is very innocent and is described as “the one unforgettable love for one man.”

U.S. studio Warner Bros. has expressed interest in buying the Stateside broadcast rights to the kdrama. The production company is currently in the process of negotiating licensing rights to 11 Asian countries, as well as arranging overseas location shoots. Writing is Oh Soo-yeon of earlier Hallyu hits Winter Sonata and Autumn Love Story, while the director is Ji Young-soo of Oh Pil-seung Bong Soon-young. (He also did Yoon’s ill-fated My Fair Lady last summer, but let’s just forget about that hot mess. His 2007 Flowers For My Life, on the other hand, was lovely.)

This ought to be Yoon’s most challenging role to date. She has a wonderful way of immersing herself in her characters, but I think her range is narrow — she’s brilliant in heartfelt, warm roles like Coffee Prince, but lackluster when putting on a persona that’s very different from her easy-going real-life persona, as in My Fair Lady. I look forward to Park Yong-ha, having come around to him rather late in his career with last year’s fantastic Story of a Man.

Love Song will begin filming in August and plans to air toward the end of the year.

Yeeeees! Can't wait! LOVE Eun Hye and I'm sure I'll love this series too. And like others have said, it really is a nice photo. Personally, I think she's the most beautiful korean woman I've seen. She's not cutesy like most. She's very feminine and kind of has a wild beauty to her.

I have to check this leading man out. He looks cute enough, but how's his acting?

I mean, I didn't even watch the drama, but it seems bit strange how people are saying it's a failure when it's ratings were higher than some other dramas that are considered success on this site. It did finish #1 in Korea during it's air. It did beat out YAB and other dramas in that time slot. So, it's just little strange. I'm assuming MFL wasn't good, but a failure? Not in a sense of viewership. You should check the ratings for it.

In my Opinion the story line in the drama "My fair Lady" was lacking, I felt that Yoon Eun-Hye did a great job with what she had to work with. I look forward to this drama because I love watching her and I fall for Park in On air, the chemistry between them should be incredible. We already know that Yoon Eun_Hye knows how to do a kiss scene I think with Park it might surpass Goong Kiss, is that Possible? HEHEHE

My Fair Lady was a nice series. I liked it and I'll watch it again. But I think after Coffee Prince, people were expecting a masterpiece and didn't get it. Sad truth is, guys, Coffee Prince is one of the best, if not best, kdrama so it won't be topped easily.

And just cause the woman was there doesn't mean her every drama will be just as good. Cut her some slack. Just because she was in this awesome series doesn't mean people have the right to put so much pressure on her instead of enjoying her works and performances.

Viewers who think MFL fail due to Yoon Eun-hye lack of acting skills are totally wrong! The storyline had no depth and no plot madness without reason. I watch the complete drama and did not fine fault in her acting what so ever! As for the comment about better eye candy, The actor in "I'm a fool" wasn't the best looking guy but the drama was good, Si Won in "OML" is sexy as hell and cham Rim is a cutie, but the drama was just a mediocre as "MFL" a person looks is never a reason for a drama success or lack of. Even the best looking leads can make a mediocre drama. BOF had 5 good looking actor, I stop watching it after episode 8, My Son's Pharmacy had 3 older man, no idol and I love it! The only reason "MFL" was consider a failure was because he wasn't popular as Coffee Prince or Goong it has nothing to do with the lack of acting skills or the mature sexy Oppa but EVERYTHING to do with that GOD awful storyline. Yoon Eun-hye fighting against hater, and eat up Park Yong Ha with his sexy lips and charming dimples......

Wow, I'm so excited!!!!

I couldn't watch MFL because...well...it was just TERRIBLE. I don't entirely blame YEH for it, the storyline and dialogues were brutle but THIS I LIKE~~~

I hope she can do justice to the role because it would be amazing to show that she CAN do different roles!

YEH looks prettier in this pic but something different. Did she had another plastic surgery? Anyway, good pairing on this one although doubting YEH's acting ability.
Hey, sorry to all YEH's fans, but that's how I feel.

In the movie"Tian MiMi", the innocent one was the guy...
Or are the producers thinking of changing the plot?

I am glad it is YEH and not GHS with her faking cutiness.

Always find YEH adorable and I am sure both PYH and YEH will be great in their role.

why YEH's fans always look down on other actresses, do you think YEH so powerful, lets see how she handle melodrama, most TV critics already know her limitation, so don't get so proud of just achieving 17% of drama rating (MFL), -with that number other actresses can achieve that.
Comparing GHS and YEH, at least the former is not your average idol, too far for YEH to level on her works. Yes, still still far to go as this and that, but at least she is trying.

oh damn. i don't even fancy yoon eun-hye (nothing personal, i loved Goong!) and i definitely initially told myself i wasn't gonna watch this one (despite my long-love for park yong-ha!) because of the writer - Winter Sonata, Autumn writer? too much melodramatic and emotions for me to handle - but now i'm... kind of rethinking this.

@64 Who's looking down on who now?

Sure, like you said, any actress worth her weight can bring in such viewership ratings...but maybe you ought to realise that not everybody is blind to the fact that she needs improvement in her acting notwithstanding the lousy-as-hell script for my fair lady,

Don't understand what I mean?
Did you even read Javabeans post? I quote " She has a wonderful way of immersing herself in her characters, but I think her range is narrow — she’s brilliant in heartfelt, warm roles like Coffee Prince, but lackluster when putting on a persona that’s very different from her easy-going real-life persona, as in My Fair Lady" ?

READ 3,5,16,43 if you find the above too difficult to understand.

And no, I do not think for one moment that being a-not-your-average-idol, Goo hye sun is exempted from criticism for her lousy acting (Please sit through the entire series called Boys Over Flowers & than backtrack to watch Pure19)

Don't see any admittence of a bad job done or even REGRESSION in acting do I?

Let me just say, I neither know YEH or by any measure a fan of hers.
I'm just bloody sick of over-zealous fans who refuse to even critique somebody's acting even if it's as bad a that of Guem JanDi...(forever scared by that...)

By all means critique YEH's ACTING and not compare it it somebody else & say why so & so is better when they are in TWO DIFFERENT DRAMAS? How is that even a FAIR comment?

i get so excited whenever news about confirmed leads of a drama like this broke. Then I spend few months highly anticipating its premiere. Dreaming about the perfect female and male leads, great supporting casts, interesting plot and everything just look so fantastic and promising. But unfortunately in many of my recent experiences, it was the writer who failed to deliver and ruined it all. i.e. Personal Taste, Take care of Young Lady, Boys of Flowers, East of Eden, etc. Really hope this one will be different.

A good choice for Verdi Media to choose YEH as the lead actress for a drama that has been dubbed as a hallyu drama since the beginning. Got the news excerpt from some sites.

"According to the production team, Yoon Eun Hye’s success in Goong, Coffee Prince, and My Fair Lady in Japan and other international markets has caused a stampede for the purchase of broadcast rights for the drama since her involvement was officially announced.
In Japan, there is much anticipation for the drama since Yoon Eun Hye and Park Yong Ha are big hallyu stars and they will be teaming up with writer Oh Soo Yun of Winter Sonata and Autum In My Heart. The director is Ji Young Soo, who directed Oh! Pil Seung And Bong Soon Young and Yoon Eun Hye’s last drama, My Fair Lady.
The production team added that they are currently negotiating with companies in 11 Asian countries for the rights to broadcast Love Song. Outside of Asia, there is also demand in the United States, Europe, and the Middle East. US studio Warner Bros. has expressed interest in buying the US broadcast rights for Love Song."

From other articles, they described YEH character is happy go lucky, so still the same as her previous works. Btw, I'm ok with it, melodrama can't draw high rating, unless the director is well known as genious.

at no 72, is Verdi Merda is the selection board? First time I heard it.

I'm on it for sure!!! I had a feeling My Fair Lady was gonna be a, sorry to say, stinker because there seems to be a pattern in her dramas... It's always one hit followed by one less than fantastic drama... Princess Hours, The Vineyard Man, Coffee Prince, My Fair Lady... If this pattern stays true, it should be a hit this time round! =)

I haven't watched Park Yong Ha's newer stuff but I do find him somewhat attractive (always the clincher for me when watching dramas... ^^)

"why YEH’s fans always look down on other actresses, do you think YEH so powerful, lets see how she handle melodrama, most TV critics already know her limitation..."

@lovelyu

YEH can do melodrama, or more accurately, emotional scenes just fine.

In CP, YEH's crying scenes were some of the most emotional, realistic emotional scenes in a drama (much better than most emotional, crying scenes where I tend to laugh at the absurdity).

YEH just needs a good project w/ a good director and script; but as we all know, those are hard to come by.

I kinda really liked Tian Mi MI, so I'm hoping this wouldn't be a flop.

In other news, Yoon looks lovely, but so exceedingly different from her time in CP, which I happen to be watching for the 15644th time. xD

I don't come to this site to follow anyone viewpoint, I use Java beans and other viewer as a tool too show me another prospectives but that don't mean I have to to agree. I have my own mind and I do use it 5% of the time, therefore respect everyone opinion not just Java beans you find that in life YOU should be in charge of your direction YOU choose to follow, no one else should be a compass for your own mind. I don't think Java Beans write for us to follow her like a cult but to share her viewpoint with a vast of individuals from other country, continents and cultures.

Interesting. Not watched the original (it's always a toss up for me on whether I'll see the original first or not) so I can't currently compare. Still, both of them are defiantely due for another drama, so getting both of them at the same time is excellent (though if it's a tearjerker the only way I'll see it is through recaps).

Once an actor always an actor. When an actor plays a role she puts not only her heart and soul but a bit of her perception into the character . In acting you are creating a personality agreeable to the character. I thought YEH is good at that.
That's why she was believeble in GOONG as a princes though royalty no longer exist in Korea. Same in Coffee Prince. And so with the The Vineyard Man.Its the story and the director that can turn around the actors.YEH is a very good actor it does notmean she doesnt need polishing her craft.Of course she does. So saying that she doesnt know how to act is false. She can act and thats for sure.
I am happy for her new drama. I am sure she will give justice to her new role.
Go girl!!!

(Somebody care to enlighten me?...Don't know if Javabeans is creeped out by this whole out-of-nowhere-cult thing. *Shivers* A blog becoming a cult? SCARY!)

And did I mention anything about rejecting differing views?

In short, I don't think you replying to me since it does not pertain to anything I've said. But since you addressed it to me I shall not be rude & just give you a reply :)

yoon eun hye is the best! I have waited for a while or this noona to come back!

Mfl wasn't anywhere on the same level as her previous dramas but it still did well for such a below-mediocre script and directing.
I believe it was YEH and abit of her costar who brought in the adverts and sponsors as well as the consistent 2 digit ratings. MFL started on 17 and ended on 19.5% and this cannot be called a failure by any definition. However compared to that of her previous works I guess it falls on the bottom somewhere.

I'm really anticipating a great come back from YEH and cannot wait for ur recaps.

I liked her in Coffee Prince but in My Fair Lady not so much. Here's hoping she doesn't suck in this new series.

She is definitely an actress who brings freshness to the screen. You don't know what to expect but you definitely will get something worthwhile.

I'm not sure who the guy is but Yeh brings out the best screen chemistry so I'm anticipating a new ship for these two!

So this series will be a melo? I've always wished to see Yeh in a traditional melo role so this makes me all sorts of happy :)

Tian Mi Mi is one of my favorite movies. I like the directing of this movie.

Although I am not a fan of Leon Lai and Maggie Cheung, their performance in this movie is really impressive.

As a Chinese, I can understand and feel for the story and the song (which was a famous song from Teresa Tang). I am not sure a k-drama remake of this movie can give me the same feeling.

Anyway, I am a fan of YEH. I think this would be a test for her given the fantastic performance of Maggie Cheung in the movie. People may compare her against Maggie. But it is still good to see her back on the small screen.

I have some doubts on the director (which produced the not so good MFL) and the scriptwriter (I did not like Winter Sonata at all). So I will keep my expectation low so that I will not be disappointed again.
